<Hmm?>

A big yellow eye peered out at Yggy from between the grasses. <Do you really need help?>

"You need help," Yggy retorted without thinking, causing the eye to blink as if taken aback. "Sorry, I mean like... what are you still doing here? The storm's gonna blow everyone away. You haven't gotten any of the pamphlets or anything?"

<I don't mind the rain.> The voice sounded a little shy. A droplet fell from the canopy and dripped off one of the leaves poking over the grasses. The Pokémon shook its head, causing the water to drip harmlessly away.

"Well," Yggy said, standing up and dusting off his hands on his jorts, "If you seriously don't mind, wanna come back to the beach with me? I need a grass-type Pokémon to do my cool idea."

<I don't mind,> came the feminine voice after a moment. <...But you'll have to get me unstuck. I've been here for several days.>

The winds were stronger when they left the protective treeline. Waves of sea-spray and sand fell in sheets, tossed up by gusts from the open ocean.

Turtwig's sprout lay back flat on her head as they battled the storm, staggering down the beach towards a small grove of palm trees.

<I didn't know it had gotten this bad!> Yggy heard her voice faintly as he finally collapsed to his knees, using all his weight to keep the Turtwig from blowing away.

"Yeah, it's pretty nuts!" he shouted back over the wind. "So, do you think you can do the same thing you did back in the Canopy? How you got all stuck in the roots and vines?"

<I'm not sure-- but I can try.>

As they crouched in the sand, green light began to spread into the ground, forming a pool around the little tortoise. Soft, dandelion-like seedlings fluttered from her leaf, torn away immediately by the winds and scattered in instants. They blew through the air, settling in the water, in the sands, in the rocks and tidepools, in fishing vessels.

"Is that it?" Yggy called, wrapping one arm around a nearby palm tree to keep from being blown away. He'd flattened his entire body to the sand. His ears shrilled with howling air pressure, and for the first time real fear began to settle in the back of his mind about what might happen if they failed.

<Not... yet...!> Golden eyes closed, and the Turtwig concentrated.

And all around, seeds began to grow.

Leech Seed ordinarily tapped into life. Finding none, it was insatiable. Vines snaked out like chains, binding boats to their docks and stones to one another. They burrowed into the sand, anchoring entire dunes in nets of thirsty greenery.

"Holy cow, you're incredible!" Yggy shouted over the storm as everywhere he looked the seeds blew, landed, and spread. "This'll be all over the island in no time!"

<I don't know how long it'll stay if I'm not controlling it!> the Turtwig cried as the waves surged. She seemed ready to panic. It was as if the Storm sensed her interference and grew stronger for it, pushing back, pushing harder.

"Don't worry!"

Something settled over her head, and she looked up at Yggy. The blonde teen had just thrown his hoodie over her, protecting her from blowing sand and wind. He grinned down at her. "I've got your back! We'll stick this out together, like a team!"

Bunkering down on the Coastline, surrounded by seeds and thrashing roots, they readied themselves for the end.
