Their pokemon weren’t actually unconscious at the moment but since Fairytale was planning another Tall Grass Encounter, they figured it would be smart to heal up.
Fairytale had decided upon their first visit here that this was their favorite shrine. It made the most difficult things in their life seem insignificant with how small they were in comparison to the universe. The misty void stretched out below them, and for a moment, they felt the impulse to dive past the Precipice into the Abyss. The very human urge to jump into the unknown.
But Fairytale did not. Instead, they breathed in and out. They could feel the energy healing them in its own empty way, and they smiled. Rather than enjoy this shrine in spite of its eerie nature, Fairytale adored it because of the natural uncanniness of the void. When they finally turned to leave, they sighed. One day, perhaps, they would know the mysteries of this place. ”See you later,” They found themself speaking to the Precipice Shrine with a cheery smile. And then they were off.

"Oh, this one is a big hole..."
Squatting down at the edge, she dipped her hand inside the vast pit. Curious.

Alice once again found herself back at the Precipice Shrine, but not because her Pokémon had fainted. She was hoping to be proactive and avoid a scenario where they would faint, particularly during this wild Venipede encounter. While there didn't seem to be any serious in-game consequences to her Pokémon fainting, her sense of pride as well as her affection for her team made her want to prevent it from occurring whenever possible. And when the wild Pokémon could be found right back where she found them... well, it was just a no-brainer.
Coming into contact with the shrine again, she let her Pokéball rest a moment near the edge of the drop before whisking it up again. Time to go beat up another bug.

TUESDAY HAS WHITED OUT
A Patrat had stabbed Tuesday at the Tower of Cats and the next thing Mars knew, the game had logged him out. Honestly? Kind of really fucking rude on the game’s part. It annoys Mars, but then when he logs back in, Tuesday is nowhere near the litter-filled seventh floor of the tower.
"...Hmm…"
The Precipice Shrine.
Why is she here?
As many times as Tuesday had visited the shrine (twelve before this one), it had always been her making her way here. Now she had been teleported…summoned, or whatever. Does it bother her? Not really, she has grown to like the sight of the dark abyss, but there’s still that endless feeling of being watched by it…
"Guess that’s just how it is, huh? I’ll be back soon."

HE HAD FAILED SERENA
That much he knew to be true and so the hour or two it had taken him searching for the Precipice Shrine was nothing to make it up to his starter pokemon. Perhaps, they started too big? But how was he to have known what too big meant or that the enemy was miles ahead of them in stamina, stature, and power. It would all take time for Vincent to learn and he trusted Serena, who seemed to have it all together. It seemed like they were both trying too hard (putting it on) but they were both still simply trying to figure it out.
"I can't promise you i'll have all the answers, Serena." He spoke directly to the pokeball as they arrived at the shrine. "But I can promise you partnership, we can get through this together, me and you. I'll never give up on you, even when you call me names." He was thankful their was a healing feature in this game because if not, this would've been the saddest and shortest video game Vincent would ever play.

Emotional ties to pokémon weren't something Derek was usually the type to brag he had. Sure, there were times in life that he pretended he totally didn't like haha yeah that guy died in battle so lame while on the inside wishing that his Bongohead was going to be okay and singing the Mirror B tune cause that's what ludicolo would always remind him of. So the idea of sacrificing a pokémon to the alter? Well, he'd heard about it before. Read about it too. And honestly, he heard that you could exalt them as well. Curious to know the difference, Derek takes out the ball that holds the purrloin he'd recently caught. Setting it on the alter, he watched for the buttons, looking between the two, and pressing sacrifice. "...can't be worse than bringing C0D13 back, right?" He mumbles to himself, since it was only he and orioncayge who had been there that day.

Olga was fuming, to put it mildly. What the hell is that Rufflet made of? She was cradling her shoulder and pretending that it didn’t hurt. Could she change her settings to turn off realistic pain and no longer feel what she suspected was a dislocated shoulder? Of course. But then she would lose the bet she currently had with Diane in PR and there was not a chance in hell that was going to happen. Olga crouched in front of the the giant hole and tossed a pebble in with her non-injured arm. “Olga heal,” she grumbled and waited for the healing coding to pop her shoulder back into place.

PRECIPICE SHRINESomething has changed. The Precipice Shrine. Vast. Bottomless. Mist-filled. Since the discovery of Asper this place has drawn wonder and speculation. It has served as the dumping grounds for unwanted junk and Pokemon, and has soundlessly swallowed them all into the vacuum of space. Wounds, lives, kingdoms— everything falls.
But now— for the first time— something rises.
On an autumn evening where its sister Moltres spreads her wings for the first time, players at the Precipice Shrine see something rising from the vast pit at the edge of the woods. But it's not the Legendary Pokemon players are convinced is hiding at the bottom. No— there is nothing in the pit. That's in the definition of absence.
Whirring, stirring, a soft cloud of dandelion tufts floats gently from the depths as if carried up on a warm thermal from below. They rise from the darkness, delicate and unobtrusive, like a lead-in to a story six months in the making.
The smell of not-quite-lavender is strong.
Over the next few days, the seeds drift throughout the Misty Timberlands, spiraling in hazy waves. Where they land, tiny purple flowers sprout, carpeting the ground of the once-bleak woods. The fragrance is pleasant at first, but players begin to find themselves experiencing strange dreams when in the mists, and pleasantness turns to paranoia.
Ringed by blossoms, the Precipice Shrine remains— not a yawning mouth, but a monstrous eye socket, struggling to see.

’Everything is constantly changing’, she had told Seta when first stepping into the Everworld – a calculated choice spoken as if the truth in it were unquestionable. She had meant it then, despite everything, and she had been right too: even in this world that is no more than an illusion, change is inevitable.
The Precipice Shrine had changed.
The Precipice Shrine had awoken.
With it, all of the Misty Timberland had changed as well.
Blossoms that rise as if born of mist. A scent akin to lavender mingling with those of frost and evergreens. Dreams. Haunting dreams. Is she awake at this moment, or is she simply dreaming all of this? What is UNOVR if not a dream? An illusion that keeps the mind distracted from reality…
As she sits at the edge of the precipice, weathered and muddied boots dangling, Tuesday thinks of the irony of it.
Illusions within illusions.
Dreams within dreams.
"You’re no more than an illusion too, aren’t you?" She tells the shaggy cat of gleaming yellow eyes. A creature that does not exist in reality; one that is no more than coding. If it dies, it does not matter: it never existed to begin with.
Calm and unfazed, she pushes the cat into the abyss.
"An illusion to feed an illusion, hm?"
It's almost poetic, yet what makes one more meaningful than the other?
It might be belief, as much as that word bothers her.

Alice stepped up to the Precipice Shrine just in time to see Tuesday push her Galarian Meowth over the edge. A few days ago, she might've been horrified, stunned, or disgusted. But now she felt... vague interest. Just because Alice felt attached to her own Pokemon didn't mean other players were obligated to feel the same about their own. And it wasn't like they had an endless inventory. At some point - probably very soon - she, too, would be joining the ranks of players casually sacrificing Pokemon to shrines. But today was not that day. She stayed long enough to recover her Pokemon's HP before slipping away, deep in thought about the consequences of this game and whether her attachments to her Pokemon were going to prevent her from succeeding.

"What...is that??" Derek asks not really anybody, watching, feeling, smelling the change. It's amazing. It feels his blood with adrenaline and makes him grin. He's glad he came to pay a visit, happy to see how absolutely stunning the change in the shrine was.
"This game is seriously next level, like damn."
Now, don't get him wrong. If he's anything, he's a retro gamer. But this kind of advance in technology? It feels alien, sci-fi, but he's for it. Because it's fun and he'd never do anything remotely close to something like this in real life without some serious encouragement.
Because really he's more a cowardly dog than a wanderlust spirit.

H0LYN3V1L stormed up to the shrine completely oblivious to any of the changes around him. He carelessly dropped Snivy’s unconscious body next to the pit and poked at it with his shoe. “Come on. Get up. Get up! I gotta go do homework and can’t waste time waiting on you.” Nothing happened for a moment and H0LYN3V1L groaned “seriously? Come on!”
His glare moved from Snivy to the gaping pit before him. H0LYN3V1L picked up a pebble and tossed it down the hole. “Work, damn you!” After a moment of stillness he sighed and dropped down to sit next to Snivy. “Listen here, you stupid dumb hole. I am H0LYN3V1L and I am meant to be the best there ever was. But I can’t do that if Snivy is dead. So like. Fix it. Or give me something else. Whichever.” He let out another sigh before quietly muttering “please.”

"Not feeling particularly chatty today, huh?"
Of course not. In fact, the Precipice had been consistently silent through out the many, many visits Tuesday had paid to its shrine. She had sat by the edge of the abyss, she had spoken to it, she had sacrificed, and through it all – although she had sensed the presence of what supposedly lurked within – not once had it spoken to her. Not until she prayed.
The irony of it all doesn't escape her, and while many times she has wondered about the religious connotations of the existence of shrines in the game, not once did it feel more latent than when she decided to play by what appears to be UNOVR's hidden rules and got an answer.
Lamb.
They still have a deal to fulfill, don't they?
"Fine, then, see ya soon. Love what you've done with the place, by the way."
She means the Timberlands as a whole.
When Tuesday walks away, it's among blooms of lavender.

Orion found himself standing at the edge of the precipice, his toes dangling over the gulf ever so slightly. The smell of lavender, the puffs of dandelions. Something about it all seemed...familiar. Like a fog that trapped him in an endless loop, or a shitty wailing that kept his eyes wide awake. A grimace crossed his face as he peered into the darkness, staring into the abyss just wishing a motherfucker would stare back. Yet for not it seemed like the shrine was indifferent, for now at least. "Welp," He grumbled, opening up his UI. " I know it doesn't work this way, but I can make it LOOK like it works this way and honestly that's the best thing I can do." Without a second thought, Orion stepped over the edge, pencil diving downward as he pressed a button on his UI. Enter the Everworld

Another day, another shrine visit...
At least it was a new shrine this time, and from an encounter with a wild Pokemon in a new area, too. Having to navigate from shrine to shrine upon getting injured was certainly one way for Valentine to learn her way around the UNOVR map...
And at least she hadn't actually whited out yet. She'd come darned close a few times now, but every time some kind stranger had intervened and saved her from the worst happening. She wasn't on the realistic pain setting (she worried a bit that that was wussing out, but she figured there was no reason to put up with too much pain from something that was just a game, something that was supposed to be fun), but still, fainting wouldn't be any fun. But she couldn't rely on some kindly stranger to save her at the last minute every time.
As Valentine closed her eyes, her wordless prayer to the shrine was not just for the healing that she knew would come her way, but also for whatever Legendary Pokemon watched over the Shrine to help her grow stronger, to get to a point where she could fend for herself at last.
