#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg It had been a stupid idea. Of course, it had. It always started with a stupid idea. And the sound of his stomach rumbling. So, he had decided to remedy at least one of the problems. Romeo found himself stealing across a large lawn. Apparently, this house was all but abandoned due to the owners always being off traveling or something. They were famous. Like everyone was who lived around here. Which meant that there was probably something worth stealing or eating in the house.
All it had taken really was a window slightly ajar as he’d distracted one of the maids earlier by throwing something when she was airing something out the window. It had closed but not all the way. Meaning he slipped into the window. Pulling himself up carefully as he tried not to make too much noise. It was the middle of the night and any of the employees that were still hanging around wouldn’t take kindly to seeing him probably.
He just needed to find his way to the kitchen or to a safe or to something really. Anything. Though if he just got out of here with a snack, he would be mildly upset by it all. But he hadn’t seen anyone in the building yet so he strolled a bit more leisurely than he normally would. Trying to find something to tell him where he was going. After all this house was a finite place. There had to be something.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/994723273977888860/manish~png Manish pulled his headset off and rubbed a hand over his face. He had maybe been wearing it for too long. Okay, no going off of the now dark room he was in, he definitely was wearing it for way too long. The rumbling of his stomach also let him know that he probably missed lunch. And dinner. Maybe the chefs left something in the kitchen? Sometimes they would, if they were in a particularly good mood and seeing as how Mother and Father were planning on being gone for quite a while again, everyone’s spirits were slightly higher. He ran a hand through his hair and frowned. It was too long and there weren’t any mushrooms in it. How boring. Manish shot another look at the headset, considering just going back in, but his stomach gave another rumble. He let out a sigh and left his room, only to hear something in the room across the hall. He quirked his head. There shouldn’t be many people around anymore, all the staff should have made their way to their housing. Plus, no one ever came up here anymore. Very carefully Manish cracked open the door. “He…hello?” he whispered mostly to himself before flicking on the light. Suddenly, there was someone there. Someone Manish didn’t recognize. He did the only rational thing and screamed and slammed the door shut. It was only then that his proper upbringing kicked in and he ripped open the door again. “Oh geeze. I’m, oh no, I’m sorry. Oh uh, oh geeze. Sorry. I didn’t mean to, um. Sorry. Are you? Well, I mean, did uh, did Father hire you? Sorry. I just, uh, sometimes he does? When he leaves to um, keep an eye on, uh anyway, you probably already know. Since he hired you. Oh geeze. I’m sorry. That was rude. I didn’t mean. Um. Hello. I’m Manish?” Great, what a wonderful first impression. Now Father was going to hear all about how awful of a host Manish was and how much he stuttered. “Sorry…” he muttered quietly and wrapped his arms around himself and hunched down to make himself appear smaller.

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg And it was in that moment he felt as though he had probably made the worst mistake of his life for multiple reasons. That number one reason was his stomach leaping into his throat whenever he heard a door opening. And then what little food on his stomach threatening to come up when he heard the scream. He was about to bolt when the door slammed shut suddenly opened once more to reveal someone. Probably a someone who lived in the house. And who for some reason was profusely apologizing to him...?
None of this made any sense but out of every other word he could sort of make out what this person probably thought was going on. He hadn't been hired by anyone's father that was for sure. But also this guy was old enough to be someone else's father so he had no idea what was going on. But it seemed like this other guy thought that he'd been hired to... Watch out for him? Or over him? Or something? It was confusing but he could probably work with it.
"I didn't mean to wake you, I was looking for the kitchen."
He hoped that didn't sound weird or anything. Romeo had no idea what was going to happen but if he could squeeze a meal out then maybe it would be worth it?
"My name is Romeo Addaway."
Holding his hand out for the guy called... Manish? A strange name but it made sense for a place like this. Regardless he held the hand out for him to shake. That was the right thing to do... Right? Fuck if he knew.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/994723273977888860/manish~png Manish stared at the hand offered to him. He knew that the polite thing to do would be to shake it, but also he hadn’t actually touched anyone in, well, a while and even just thinking about contact made him very uncomfortable. Instead of actually shaking the hand, Manish just waved and then wrapped his arms back around himself. “Oh, um, well, I wasn’t actually sleeping. I was playing a game…or no. No I wasn’t. I definitely wasn’t doing that. I was uh, doing something…not game related…” Yeah, that was convincing. “Don’t tell Father. Please. Um.”The rest of Romeo’s words registered then. “Oh! I was actually um, going to the kitchen? I haven’t eaten uh, in a while. Maybe. Um. anyway. So, I mean, the kitchen staff has probably all, uh, left? Um. But sometimes they leave food? I can show you, if you want. Since I’m also, uh, going there…” Was he being awkward? He was pretty sure he was being awkward. What a great first impression. “If you want to, um, follow, uh me? I can show you…I already said that. Um. It’s this way.” Manish gestured out of the room and down the hall. “Are you staying here? I mean, like, obviously you’re on the grounds. But, I mean, here, here? Like, in the main building? Most of the others, uh, they, you know. Um. Don’t. So it’s usually just me. Here.” He was definitely being awkward. Really his only hope was that Romeo didn’t immediately report to Father. Would helping him find food help with that? Manish really hoped that it would. He shot a look over his shoulder to make sure Romeo was actually following him over to the kitchen. “Anyway, um, here’s the uh, kitchen. There’s uh, I don’t really know how to, well, I mean, I don’t often cook? Um. Maybe there’s food in the fridge?” He gestured over to the large double door fridge. He really really hoped that the staff left food behind.

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg It was absolutely fucking wild to realize that he was going to be eating a midnight snack with some guy whose house he had broken into on a whim. All he'd wanted was to have something to eat or get something nice out of the deal. But here he was, just nodding along with this guy as he asked if he was going to be staying here? How was he supposed to answer that. But before he could say anything against it he automatically nodded just the same.
"Yeah of course. I won't be telling your father anything either."
What was he thinking? Staying here? Why the hell would he tell this guy something like that? Of course he wasn't going to tell his father anything. He had no idea who his father was or what he did but he knew that this guy was also a full grown adult and whatever he decided to do in his off time meant that it was his business. Why would Romeo ever tell anyone anything?
"You're always here alone?"
Well, that explained the awkwardness. But nonetheless Romeo went over to the fridge and opened it, confused by the fact that there seemed to be the bare minimum of actual food but lots of ingredients.
"Do you want me to cook something? It doesn't look like there's a lot of actual... Food in here."
He could at least cook a little bit.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/1038142601586557018/manish~png Manish would be the first to admit that he probably wasn’t the best judge of character, but so far this new employee had talked to him longer than, well, basically anyone his father had employed before so that was already enough to get on Manish’s good side. And promising to not tell his father? He really lucked out with amanita . At the further questioning Manish ducked his head and scratched at his (mushroomless) hair. “Oh. I mean, well, not um. Always alone? Just uh, well, most of the um, the time? It’s okay! It’s completely fine! Mother and Father are so busy with work and, well, I mean, if they aren’t here then the uh, well, everyone else who doesn’t do um. The uh, well, basic uh, maintenance? They aren’t um, aren’t around either. So I mean, yeah, I guess it’s just uh. Me. And some other people. Sometimes. But they don’t really come around…uh…me. Anyway! You can cook? Really? Do you cook a lot? What kind of things do you cook? If you leave a list then I can ask someone to get you groceries for things you like tomorrow! I mean, uh, if you want?” Manish really really wished that he just had an off button. It would make actually shutting up significantly easier. He knew he was rambling and hadn’t yet figured out quite how to make himself stop gracefully. “Do you uh, can I, I mean, would uh, would it be okay if I watched? Or well, I could maybe help? If you wanted! Not that I think you need help! I just uh, yeah. Um. I don’t really know how to do uh, anything. But I can help. If you want. I'm a fast learner, uh, probably? No pressure. I can also leave, if you’d rather?” At this point Manish was ignoring that he was also hungry; it was fine. If Romeo wanted to cook alone he would leave and just sneak back down later to see if there was anything left. He really didn’t want to scare off this nice new person.

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg Romeo desperately wanted to say literally anything that would get this guy to calm down. Just. Anything. He'd never met a man more terminally inside his own head than maybe one of his exes who constantly thought Romeo was trying to outplay him in some sort of imaginary game. But even with that past experience he knew this guy next to him, Manish was his name?, was just nervous for some undetermined reason. Well... It could have something to do with the fact that apparently no one spoke to the guy. Ever.
No he was sure it was that. Sure Romeo was poor as fuck and didn't have food most of the time but at least he had someone to talk to. Even if it was people trying to rip him off.
"I used to cook a lot, not so much anymore."
That wasn't a lie. He did used to cook a lot. But now he was homeless and there wasn't really a lot of cooking you could do with no stove and no utensils. Plus... No food?
"I'd prefer it if you stay here. I could use your help. Especially if you're hungry too. That way I don't have to hunt you down to find you when the food is done."
He remembered that manish said he was heading to the kitchen to try and find something to eat for himself when Romeo barged it. So it wouldn't be fair to just kick the guy out of the kitchen if he was going to cook. He might as well feed him too. Especially since he was sure the guy would probably just bite into one of the raw onions for a snack and cry while eating it. But still eat the whole thing.
"Wash these vegetables for me in the sink... Don't use soap on them."
It was instinct to add the last part. There was a nagging part of his brain that thought for sure that if he didn't clarify he would have soapy vegetables to deal with and he didn't want to have to rewash everything and give the guy some sort of complex about not being able to wash vegetables properly.
"Are you alright with a vegetable stir fry?"
He didn't have time to defrost any meat but he did manage to find some rice. Which was good enough. It was a filling meal and sort of healthy if you ignored how much oil he used to fry rice. But it would be fine.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/1038142601586557018/manish~png Manish stared in awe at amanita . “You…you want me to stay? You want um. You want my help? Really? That, oh wow. I mean, yeah no, I uh, I really want to um. Help. Yeah. I can wash vegetables!” He happily scooped up the veggies and ran to the sink. He was also very very glad that Romeo warned him about the soap. Was that not a thing people were supposed to do? Did it make them bad? What did it do? He was brimming with questions, but he really didn’t want to make Romeo think his help wasn’t worth the trouble of explaining things. “I um, I like vegetable stir fry. I mean, uh, well, I don’t really eat um, meat. Or well, I mean, if you made it I would! Because it would be rude not to! But uh, yeah, no I don’t um. Or, I’d prefer not to.” Manish steadily made his way through the veggies, carefully scrubbing at each under the water. “It’s just that, well, I mean, I’m in this uh, class, right? Wait.” he froze and dropped the vegetable he was washing into the sink and shot Romeo a panicked look. “Heck, wait, um, no I’m not. I wouldn’t uh, not like that! I’m not in a class! Or, well, okay I am. But don’t tell Father! He wouldn’t, um. Anyway, it’s online and I definitely don’t leave the house! I wouldn’t, I promise. Um.” He turned back to the sink to hide his blush and went back to scrubbing vegetables. “I just uh, see, I had questions and it seemed like taking a uh, a class would be the best way to get answers, right? So uh, so I did that. And um. I’ve been learning a lot! Like, uh, so, it was okay to fight animals if they can give consent. Or fake animals at least. Not real ones. Because, well, that’s the issue right? Animals can’t give consent to be uh, to be eaten. Or fight. Or either really. And that’s bad. It, well, I don’t know, it’s ethical to eat them because society agreed that it is, right? Um. Yeah. Anyway. I don’t really want to eat meat anymore.” Manish realized how much he had been dominating the conversation and he could hear his mother’s voice in his head chastising him. “Sorry. Um. Sorry for talking so much.” He took the pile of washed veggies over to Romeo and set them next to him. “You don’t cook as much anymore? Do you miss it? Why don’t you? Wait, no, that’s rude. I’m sorry, you don’t uh, you don’t have to tell me. I um. Sorry. You can tell me if you want? No pressure.”

They were back to not telling his father anything it seemed. Something that Romeo absolutely wouldn’t have problems doing considering he once again still had no idea who he was. And really didn’t care. But he did watch Manish out of the corner of his eye, making sure that he really didn’t use soap as he started to get the rice ready. There was a rice cooker tucked away in a corner that he filled. He could always boil the rice but this would get it done quicker. And if there was a fancy tool available to use then why not use it. “I won’t ever tell anyone anything you’ve told me, don’t worry.” But he knew the don’t worry would fall on deaf ears. All this guy ever did was worry. “I promise.” But the promise might do it for him. Maybe. As he rambled about the ethics class that he was taking, Romeo wondered how hard it would be to get this guy to go outside. “You can talk as much as you want I don't mind it really. I’m just waiting on the rice to finish cooking... Why were you worried about fighting animals though?” But when the vegetables were brought over he needed to chop them as well. There was… No way in hell he would ever trust this guy to chop up a vegetable with an actual knife. “I’ll show you how to do this, if you want?” He held up a knife and started to cut the vegetables carefully. Much more slowly than he normally would because he absolutely did NOT want manish to imitate his speed as well. “It’s hard to find time to cook sometimes. Plus it can be expensive getting ingredients.” Which wasn’t a lie. But it wasn’t the whole truth. Nothing he said was technically un-factual. “I miss it sometimes. I miss having a reason to cook good food.” Also not a lie. But that was enough about himself. “Do you not go outside at all then? Not even on the lawn?” It was a question that was burning him up on the inside and if Manish got to ask questions then so did he. Probably. “You don’t have to answer either, if you don’t want.”

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/1038142601586557018/manish~png Manish couldn’t help the incredibly dorky smile that broke across his face at Romeo. Here was this stranger, just some new employee who was being nice to him, who hadn’t told him to shut up and go away yet, who promised to not tell Father of his indiscretions. Wow. He really needed to thank whoever Father had doing interviews now, they were clearly good at their job. There was a brief moment where he felt a stab of pain that even now he was talking to someone who was paid to be nice to him, but that was fine. Manish was used to that kind of thing, that was expected, that was understood. “Oh the animals. Well. Okay, um, so this is part of the thing that you can’t tell Father. You promised. Mother knows, she doesn't like it, but she uh, she tolerates it? Father uh, Father probably wouldn't.” He really tried to emphasize that promise part. “Uh, okay, so there’s this um, this game? Right? And it’s, well, I don’t know. I’ve talked to a couple people in it and I guess it’s popular? Or comes from something popular? Or maybe I just don’t know it, I don’t know a lot of things.” Manish cringed and to pretend there was something very important on the counter for him to look at so he didn’t need to look at Romeo for a moment. “Um. Anyway. So, yeah, it’s a game. You fight with these uh, animal things? But sometimes they don’t really look like animals and other times they really really look exactly like animals. Uh, yeah. And they can talk. Sometimes? It’s a setting. Anyway, you fight other animals with them and there’s these like, I don’t know, lots of things happened.” The small part of Manish that whispered how Romeo was just an employee was begging him to stop talking, “You could play! I mean, if you wanted? It’s fun. I promise it’s fun. Sometimes. Most of the time. I’ve made so many friends on there and that’s been really nice since I don’t have any friends in uh. Well. That’s um, that’s not important. We could play. If you wanted. Sometime. Maybe? But really, it's not like, I'm not uh, telling you that you have to because you work for Father! I wouldn't do that. It's definitely just if you want to.” At being offered to learn how to cut vegetables Manish scampered over to Romeo and leaned over his shoulder to watch. He didn’t want to get too close, that would be rude, but he did really want to see. Make sure not to touch. Touch is rude. Don’t be rude to this new nice person. They could get a job anywhere. Manish snaked one of the carrots and very carefully grabbed one of the spare knives. With a mildly shaky hand he tried to copy the movements. The pieces were definitely not nicely cut and a couple rolled off onto the floor, but he was too invested in talking to Romeo to really notice. “Expensive, huh…” Manish wasn’t a complete fool, he knew money was a thing. Kind of. He’d seen enough movies and television to know it was a thing that people really cared about. But it just…wasn’t a thing for him. He never needed to care if something was expensive, hell he was fairly certain he had never actually purchased something for himself. But. But! Manish dropped the knife and flapped his hands near Romeo (don’t touch, don’t touch, don’t touch, keep your hands to yourself) “Oh, oh! If you like cooking you can do that here! Whenever you want, I promise! And, and, and, oh jeez, see, you don’t need to worry about the uh, expensive um, anything? Right? Because, see, yeah, because I’ll get it for you! Whatever you want. I just need to ask for it and I’ll get it. Then you can uh show me other things to cook!” It was a great idea. Manish would get to spend more time with Romeo, and he would be giving Romeo whatever he wanted that was expensive; he could be useful. Or his Father’s credit card could be useful. But Manish knew his worth only came from who he was related to. That was fine. He was practically vibrating with excitement at the idea. He did feel his excitement dim slightly at Romeo’s question. But that was only fair. Manish asked him questions, so it was his turn to answer. “Oh. Um. I mean, yeah, I leave. Of course I leave. It would be weird if I never left the house…” he stared at Romeo’s face to gauge if he was actually right, that most people did leave their homes. “Um, but like. Uh, I don’t um. Leave, leave. You know? I um. I, well I don’t uh, I haven’t um. Sorry. It’s just um.” He couldn’t help but rub over his upper arm where a deep scar was hidden under his jacket. “Mother doesn’t let me leave the property. It’s dangerous, right? So I don’t. Leave that is. The house. But I go outside! As long as I’m on the property then I’m safe. That’s what Mother says. I like going to the garden. I don’t really know anything about plants, but I’m trying to learn about mushrooms! I uh, in that game? That I mentioned? I um, I can grow mushrooms. It’s weird. But, but! Um. I like them. I’ve been learning lots. Do you know about plants?”

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg More than anything he was concerned with the fact that he had just offered to teach the man how to use a knife to cut vegetables. Of course he wasn't going to tell on him that he was playing a game or going to a class. But Manish with a knife in his hand felt more than a little bit dangerous. Not because he expected him to use it to intentionally hurt someone. But he definitely thought that he might cut himself with it. So Romeo watched him, while cutting his own vegetables still slowly and hearing the rice cooker ding. "Is it Pokemon?" Or he guessed it could be Digimon. But was that super popular nowadays? He definitely hadn't been keeping up with games lately. But he'd vaguely heard about a Pokemon VR game or something that had come out.
"If you want to play with me I'd be happy to." He had no idea why that sentence came out of his mouth. It was like he was planning on sticking around or something. He shouldn't be making promises to this guy when his full intent was to just disappear as soon as he could. But what was the hurt in staying for a little bit? Especially if he was being offered the ability to cook and sleep here. The easiest job he'd ever had. "You'll have to tell me what you like to eat then. Even if it's just vegetables there has to be some you don't like, right? Or ones you like more than others." Idiot. Idiot. Idiot. This is why everything usually went wrong. He tried to do too much and take things too far. And then he ended up getting caught.
But instead he just smiled a little as he scooped the rice into the pan and tossed in the carrots that manish had cut up with all the rest. With the exception of the ones that had fallen to the floor of course. But that smile faltered a little bit whenever Manish seemed actually uncomfortable. "You don't have to answer questions you don't want to when I ask them. There's no shame in just saying you don't want to answer." After all, he hated answering questions. "I don't know anything about plants. You'll have to teach me. But I think they're pretty." And he probably knew even less about mushrooms. But if they made this guy happy then so be it.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/921815807040827392/1038142601586557018/manish~png Manish brightened instantly. “Yeah, yes, it’s Pokemon. I’m still not uh, that great at it? I have to ask a lot of questions and I guess at most everything I do. But it’s fun, I promise!” He couldn’t believe Romeo actually wanted to play with him. It was probably part of keeping an eye on him, but Manish didn’t care. It would be so neat to have a real life person he knew play the game with him. He really wanted to jump around with how excited he was at the idea, but that would be weird. He couldn't be weird. So he took to rhythmically squeezing his fists to direct the excitement somewhere he could sort of keep to himself. He watched in mild awe as the food came together. No one really liked him around them, especially when they were doing something so it was fascinating to see food actually turn into a meal. “What I don’t like? Um…” Manish scratched at the back of his neck. No one had ever asked him that before, he either ate what the cooks sometimes left for him, or he didn’t eat. The concept of actually getting a say in his food was mind boggling. But what if he said he didn’t like something and it was Romeo’s favorite food? Would he be mad at him? Would he leave? Manish just found someone willing to be near him and even play UNOVR with him, he couldn’t risk chasing him away already. It was already risky saying he didn’t eat meat, revealing more than that felt like it would just be pushing his luck way too much. “You uh, you said I don’t um. I don’t have to answer?” Manish hated how rude he felt not answering, but between being rude and stating his preferences, being rude was the better option. “Is it okay if I don’t answer what I uh, what I um. What I don’t like?” Oh jeez that sounded even more rude than Manish thought it was going to, he needed to do damage control. What if Romeo hated how rude that was? What if he thought Manish was so rude that he left? “Sorry. I, uh, sorry. I’m sure I’ll like anything you make! Really!” Breathing was getting hard and Manish felt the panic build up inside of him. Oh no. Not now, he couldn’t be weird now. If he freaked out Romeo would definitely leave and he would definitely tell Father and Father would tell Mother and then they would both be disappointed in him for having one of his fits in front of someone. That was rude, he wasn’t supposed to do that. Those were to be kept behind closed doors. Well, according to Father real men didn’t throw fits like him at all, but if he had to do it, he had to keep it to himself. And thinking about his parents were not helping at all. “Drinks!” Manish said what was probably too loudly. He put as much distance between him and Romeo as he could in the kitchen and went to the fridge. “I’ll get uh, I can grab um. Drinks. Yes. Uh.” Manish opened up a cupboard and tried to get his breathing under control. He really hoped his hands didn’t shake so much that he dropped the glasses. Manish carefully grabbed two glasses and went to get some ice. At least the cold air from the freezer was helping him calm down. He scooped ice in both cups and set them back on the counter. “What um, what do you want? I don’t uh, I don’t actually know what we have?” He still felt a little panicky, but at least he was mostly under control again. He could freak out later when he was alone. It was dangerous to bring it back up, but Manish figured as long as he could keep the focus off of himself, keep Romeo talking, then it would be fine. “What’s uh, what’s your favorite food? And your favorite drink? If…if you want to tell me?”

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg On one hand, he was glad that manish was already exercising his right to tell him no. On the other hand, the poor guy looked like he was about to pass out from the stress of it. Which would have been awkward because Romeo had no idea where his room was to drop him off in. And there would be a lot of fried rice to go to waste if that happened too. Though he was probably sure he could probably eat it all if he tried. But then he might throw up. And he really didn't want that. "I meant it when I said it. You can tell me no whenever you want." Something he probably wasn't used to. "I'm not here to push you into things you don't want to do or don't want to tell me."
He wasn't supposed to be here at all. But that wasn't the point. He took the rice and vegetables off of the heat as he watched Manish try to suppress... himself? He'd seen a panic attack before. Hell, he'd had a few himself even. And it never did any good to try and push them down through just sheer force of will because eventually, all of that exploded out. A container could only hold so much pressure before it spilled over so it was better to let some out before it made a mess. At least that's what his school counselor had always told him.
Wiping his hands off to get some of the cooking traces off of them he held his hands out for Manish to take. Trying to ignore the twinging feeling in them. "Can I see your hands?" He asked gently. Like he was talking to a spooked horse. "You can also say no to this. But it might help you a little bit." He wanted to remind Manish that it was okay to tell him no. And that if he didn't want his help right now then that was fine too. But he was worried that he would end up dropping the glasses if he tried to pick them back up again. He continued to talk to Manish carefully as he waited for confirmation or denial.
"I like those little debbie swiss rolls. I never got the hang of making them but when I could afford them they were good." He liked chocolates a lot. They calmed him down and he had something of a sweet tooth. They had a warming effect to them. Even when it wasn't cold outside. "I like chocolates in general though." He was talking to talk. The more he spoke he felt like the less Manish would feel the need to work into a frenzy.

“My…my hands?” Manish was fairly certain no one had ever asked that before. While he wasn’t totally comfortable with the idea of relaxing his hands enough for someone to look at them, his curiosity was winning out. He offered up the shaking hands for Romeo to do…whatever he was planning on doing with them. Manish focused on what Romeo was saying. “Chocolate? Oh, I know some things about chocolate! I mean, well, obviously I know what it is and stuff. But like, um, so Mother she likes to do things, right? Father says it’s just for her image or whatever that means, but sometimes she takes on these projects and um. One of them was on ethically sourced chocolate! And, well, okay this was before I really knew what that even meant? It makes more sense now.” Manish let himself ramble as a way to not think about how badly his hands still shook. “And it’s important to buy chocolate from Fair Trade companies. Because they are less, um, less bad? Than other places. Anyway. Um. I don’t think I’ve ever had a little debbie swiss roll. But I want to try.”

#s://static~zerochan~net/Earl~Grey~Cookie~full~3561281~jpg He really wasn't sure this was going to work. Especially with how hard Manish was shaking. But he was going to at least try. Carefully he scooped both of his hands underneath Manish's with just his thumbs over his palms. "Now, focus on your breathing, gently. As I start a shape you focus on the breath in and then breath out." Gently and carefully he began to make shapes on Manish's palms with his thumbs. Simple ones like circles and occasionally something like a star. Just anything to get him to breath a little more evenly. "You can take your hands away at any time. But if you can at least try to focus on the breathing." Once again he felt the need to remind Manish that he was the one in control right now. Even if he was holding his hands like this.
"I don't know very much about special chocolates. But the swiss cakes have cream in the middle of them. Sometimes you can get different flavors too. They're very sweet though. I don't mind that. Sometimes it's nice to just have a sugar rush because the crash afterwards is a great sleep." If he just kept talking about silly things then maybe this would work. "Remember breathing in and out though."
