Since our Beta launch we've been hard at work adding, tweaking, and fixing. Patch 0.2 is all about quality of life improvements and getting the site running as smooth as Silcoon. You can check it out here!

December 18th
Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

"Is your name even actually Derk?" It could be considered a bit of a personal question, so he offers some elaboration of his own. "Mine's not Finn, or anything, but I'm fine goin' by that." His attention is pulled away by a bean that slips out of Derk_TheJerk's pocket. It sprouts, green of leaf and vibrant, then withers to a dry stalk with blackened leaves as the corruption overtakes it. Finn, too, frowns at it. "Ominous, isn't it?" It's only made worse by the appearance of a sudden, simple prompt: CLIMB TO YOUR NEXT DESTINATION The quest marker appears high in the clouds. "You're kiddin' me." It was a tutorial, and grasping the basics of climbing was important for exploring the world of UNOVR. Finn had learned through comical trial and error of slamming himself against rock faces. Still, this? The corrupted magic beanstalk? "If there's a giant at the top of this thing I'm loggin' out." He grasps a thick leaf, much sturdier and less malleable than he'd expected, and starts to climb.

"Ah... w-well I mean almost—" but he's cut off, his words die in his throat as he watches the bean sprout. It's insane to him, seeing the way it twists, grows, and immediately corrupts. And then it has the audacity to tell them to climb it. "I swear to God I'm cursed...I have to be." The complaint is mumbled as Finn warns Derek he'll log out once the going gets tough, and it has Derek letting out a girlish giggle of a snicker, heading over to the bean stalk cautiously and watching the UI prompt him on how to climb. "But what kinda giant would make a knight in shining armor type like yourself run for the hills?" Derek wonders, knowing what he's said and pretending he's not flush in the face about it. Cause talking to boys about boys looking good wasn't a regular thing for him, even at four steps to thirty. Somebody get this dumbass outta Maine. "Giant person? Giant ditto? Giant Rapidash?"

"I'm not that kind of Knight," he assures the other, mischief twinkling in the sapphire depths of his eyes. "I started a cult, you know. Church of the Ceaseless Downpour. You should check it out." Cults are perhaps meant to be a little more subtle in their recruitment, but Finn is new at this whole villainous-cult-leader thing. The thought of a giant Ditto is sort of terrifying, but... "Well, in the High Tide world event, there was a giant Kyogre," he explains as he climbs, placing each foot carefully on leaves that should really not be so sturdy, "and then it glitched out, and then it turned into a giant C0D13 - have you met C0D13? I hear he's back, but anyway. C0D13 started blasting everything with his Customer Service Cannon and like, deleted a bunch of players and parts of the world and shit. It was wild. So, yknow, something like that. I'd rather not get deleted." He might lose his Kyogre, and he'd worked hard for those pixels, man! Circling back to his previous curiosity, he guesses, "So... Dirk with an I?"

Why? For the lulls. But then Derek's blood runs cold at the mention of C0D13 and he frowns, immediately, but hides it well as he's climbing. Luckily there's an anyway* and Finn moves on from the talk of the thing that Derek'd brought back on accident during his first story quest. Which, he'd argue, was all a set up and he didn't have control over summoning the fucking thing anyway. "Being deleted would suck... starting from scratch doesn't sound fun at all." He'd done it a few times on older games and had literally just rage quit. He wasn't sure if he'd rage quit a game he'd made friends on, though. "Dirk?" Derek realizes Finn's talking about his name and laughs, shaking his head. "Oh, I mean, no. My real name's Derek. My friend used to call me 'Derk,' or just 'D.'" Which Derek had liked because his favorite series of horror novels was Vampire Hunter D—but anyway. "Derk the Jerk was something he'd say sarcastically in passing..." And talking about it made him want to punch and kiss said friend all at the same time. "But now that I realize people think I'm actually a jerk, like it's a warning and they don't get the sarcastic side of it, I might just change it."
