Valentine's trip to the Rookery was a success, and now she had an egg of her very own to care for!
...which made her realize how little she actually knew about Pokemon eggs.
How long did it take for them to hatch? What did she need to do to care for them in the meantime? Were there any big important steps that she had somehow missed along the way? Valentine wasn't sure, exactly, and that worried her a little. Sure, she knew the basics, knew not to go cracking them or throwing them in a freezer, but beyond that it was all new to her.
So Valentine just sat in the settlement, unwilling to bring her egg anywhere beyond the settlement's reach where it might be in danger from wild Pokemon... though Valentine knew from experience now that the settlement itself wasn't 100% free of wild Pokemon either... but sitting with her back against one of the houses there seemed like as good a spot as any. She had the egg in a makeshift nest of blankets and soft cloths on her lap, Nova and Puff were on the alert in case wild Pokemon (or any other potential danger) did indeed show their face, and Valentine was... singing to the egg.
It felt right, somehow, to sing to it, and it couldn't hurt, right?
"Soft eggie, warm eggie, little ball of fur..."
It was a silly choice of song, from a show his mom watched that he didn't even really like, but it was the first thing that had come to mind. The lyrics weren't really accurate either--warm, maybe, but the egg's surface was hard and smooth, without soft spots or any sign of fluff. But maybe all that would change after it hatched. Maybe the lyrics would end up fitting better after all. Only time would tell.
"Happy eggie, sleepy eggie, purr purr purr..."
Eggs didn't purr, obviously, but Valentine could swear she did feel a bit of soothing vibration coming from it from time to time. Hopefully the baby Pokemon in there was indeed happy and sleepy and just biding its time until it could grace the world with its presence.

The egg in her arms was much smaller than the Nidoran eggs that she had hatched. Much smaller. But that made sense since the Rookery information had told her that it was a Flabebe Egg instead of a large beast Pokemon. Of course she'd had to look up what a Flabebe was but luckily it was one that hit her thematic approach to the game. A fairy type. Like she had requested. Hunting down the egg had been the difficult part of it all. Especially since those Rookery events tended to bring out more people than she wanted to deal with. What was the point of having all of those people cluster up when they could just find an egg on their own? But for now she toted the egg around in her arms. Trying to figure out when it would hatch. It wasn't supposed to take too long for them to come out of the egg. The game even encouraged hatching them quickly in that way it seemed. So all she needed to do was keep walking around with it. With a sigh she shifted the egg in her arms and wrinkled her nose. Someone else was here. And they were... singing to an egg? "Hello?" If someone else was messing around here that meant they had probably gone to the Rookery themselves. And that was enough to make her tiny bit of curiosity peek. "Egg hatching?" The pink and yellow player in front of her seemed to be singing a silly song to the egg, hoping that it would hatch because of it. Diva hadn't really shown her egg that sort of affection. Just carrying it around was enough to hatch it after all. Right? Why baby it as well? Valentine

Valentine's first response to the other player's greeting was a slow blink as she was brought back to reality (well, reality within UNOVR, anyway). In all her excitement and anxiety over caring for her very own egg, she had sort of... forgotten that other players were around, too, that she wasn't off in her own little world with just her and the egg.
"Hello!" Valentine hoped that her voice sounded more enthusiastic and less spaced-out than she felt, but she wasn't so sure.
Upon the other woman's mention of egg hatching, however, Valentine broke out into a genuine grin upon realizing that other players being around meant other players might be able to help her, other players might actually know what they were doing... she didn't have to go it alone and just take a stab in the dark after all!
Valentine's voice was definitely enthusiastic now, enthusiastic and energetic and perhaps still a hint of her anxiety creeping into her rapid speech. "Yeah, egg hatching! I just got this little one from the Rookery and I've never had an egg of my own before and I don't really know how to make them hatch, I was just kind of spitballing here, maybe you've got a better idea than I do how that all works? I'm not in any rush or anything, I just don't want to somehow damage my egg along the way by accident, you know?"

A new player. That meant she was responsible for making sure that they had a good experience. Especially if they were new enough to be hatching their first egg. Diva resisted the urge to sigh and instead gave a small smile. "It seems as though we have the same type of egg... See? Same size and shape?" And the color was the same as well. She wondered if they had requested a fairy type as well.
"When it comes to egg hatching all you really need to do is carry them around a little bit. That's enough to make sure they hatch. At least in my experience." She was sure other people had the same experiences or different ones depending on how they played the game. "You've got to keep it in your party but that should be enough... Given the type of egg you requested I think I can guess at your goal in the game?"
Most of the girls in pink with flowey dresses wanted to unlock the Charmer class. Her first advanced class that she'd earned nearly being murdered by a crazed moon. That event had been... Fun?

If there was any irritation left in Diva's voice, Valentine, at least, didn't notice it in the slightest.
"They do look similar, don't they? So small... maybe we'll get the same species, despite the odds! I asked for a Fairy-type at the Rookery, I believe..."
The grin on Valentine's face only grew wider as the other woman explained the simple mechanics behind egg hatching in the game. "Oh, that's great to hear! That should be easy enough then! Though I'm not sure what you mean about my goal... there isn't a Breeder class, is there? I don't know that I'd even want to breed Pokemon, one egg at a time is plenty for me."
Logan, for his part, still hadn't entirely made up his mind about what classes to pursue, which was probably why that mention went over his head. Charmer was on his radar, sure, but it was only one of a few nice options that appealed to him... and in the back of his mind, he could hear his classmates making fun of him for being a cutesy pink Fairy-type trainer, even though he knew better than to breathe a word about this game to his peers at school in the first place...

The egg shook, a little violently in her hands as they spoke. It was nearly time for the baby Pokemon to meet and greet the two of them.
"You want the charmer class, correct? The fairy one." That was all Diva meant by goal really. Her own goal had gotten a bit skewed since @peacemaker hadn't logged in for a little while. But at least the stronger she got the better off she was for when he came back. Especially since she was playing more in her free time as well. What little of it she had.

"Oh! Um, maybe?" Valentine blushed a little bit at the assumption, though that was definitely Logan's own feelings entering the game there rather than something befitting his character. "It does seem nice, but there's a lot of classes out there that seem nice, so it's hard to choose... plus, I do like Gardener, and I'm nowhere near maxing it out yet, so I'd want to do that before I get any other class I think..."
Valentine's rambling was interrupted only by the egg rocking right out of her hands, rolling a couple feet away before coming to a rest on the ground. Valentine scrambled to get the egg back and checked it for any signs of injury--that crack hadn't been there before, had it? Did the fall hurt it? Or--no, the crack was getting bigger now, even as Valentine held it safely in her hand...

She didn't really care too much about the conversation that was going on at the moment. Not when the small egg was finally cracking and opening in earnest. And she could hear that Valentine 's was as well. Good. The egg hatching finally meant that she was going to be able to start training it immediately. She would find a way to get it leveled and trained well enough. Strength was the most important thing after all in this game. "There we go little one... Come on." She pulled some of the egg shell that had fallen into the opening away, dropping it on the ground without care. "Now all you have to do is work yourself out. Be strong little one." That was the important part. Strength.

At first Valentine was scared to even touch the egg, afraid that she would injure it in some way, but as the egg broke open she set the fallen pieces of eggshell aside in a pile on the ground, holding what remained of the egg tightly in her hand as the Pokemon emerged...
Oh wow, that really was a small Pokemon. She knew it would be, of course, due to the egg's small size, but part of her had expected that this was like the other games where eggs were eggs and size didn't matter until after the Pokemon within emerged. But no, the Pokemon that emerged, a tiny white imp of a thing on a flower of similar color, was only a couple inches tall, fitting well within the egg that had housed it until now.
"Oh, you're adorable." Valentine said with her first good look at the emerging Pokemon, though it was still half-covered in various egg-y fluids. But those little eyes, that touch of pink on the cheeks... even a bit of icky egg stuff couldn't eclipse this newborn Pokemon's cuteness.

Finally, after moments of trying, the baby Pokemon released itself from her egg. Yawning and stretching. The unnecessary shell was discarded to the ground as the tiny Pokemon sat in her palm. Absolutely perfect. The hatching had gone perfectly and she was pleased with how healthy it looked. Well, of course it looked healthy. It wasn't actually alive or anything. It was just a bunch of numbers and codes. But now it was her bundle of numbers and codes. "An excellent little addition, I think... I'll call you Opal." Another precious gem for her collection. Looking over to Valentine she wanted to see how hers had done. "All good over there?" She was sure that they were but... It was always good to ask, right?

Valentine blinked a few times before responding, the other Trainer's voice reminding her with a start that she wasn't alone.
"Yeah! Yeah, all's good here... great, actually. What a little cutie! I think I'll call you..."
Valentine hesitated for a moment and thought over her options. Names were an important thing, after all. Even if her own had been chosen on a lark.
Hey, that gave her an idea...
"Lark? Or- Larkspur, but Lark for short? Larkspurs are a kind of flower, I think--fitting, isn't it?"
The newborn Pokemon was still taking in her surroundings, but Valentine chose to take the Flabebe's smile as an agreement.

Now that her Pokemon had hatched... She had completed her task for log in today. But she had also been planning on doing it alone. But now she was chatting with another person and it was rude to just log out like you did when you were playing by yourself. She didn't want to be the reason a new player thought that veterans were rude. That wouldn't look good for the game.
"Good, is this the first Pokemon you've hatched?" It was the second one she had done. Her first being a Nidoran that was now a Nidorina. She was going to have to expand her training roster at this rate. The more Pokemon that she hatched the more she would need to train them. And for now this little one would probably be put into the support position. "Have you decided what tree you'll put yours in?" It was an important decision to find where to place a Pokemon after all.

"Yeah, it's the first Pokemon I've hatched in here! Another milestone, I guess, heh! Who'd've guessed we both had Flabebe eggs, with all they could've hatched into?" Valentine wasn't even sure how much limit there was on what you could get from eggs in here. Was it any Pokemon? What about legendaries? Or genderless ones that didn't even lay eggs normally, for that matter? Surely the game designers had decided on some sort of cut off for that... but if so, Valentine didn't know any of the details...
"And no, I haven't decided yet... support seems like kind of the natural choice, doesn't it, for something so small and cute? But then, sometimes it's fun to have Pokemon be in classes you might not expect, too. I don't think too many people would expect my Wooper to be Sweeper class, but that's what makes it so amusing! What about you? Have you made that decision yet?"
Valentine was looking forward to unleashing her Wooper on an opponent one of these days. A proper opponent, that is, not just a wild Pokemon. Watching it zoom around like a proper Sweeper would certainly be a sight to enjoy.

"Support." That was an easy choice for her. As much as she thought that testing the barriers of it all was good she still liked things to be somewhat orderly. And that orderly needed to have this Pokemon tucked into the Support class. "I have a Nidorina and a Nidorino for my tanks that the moment. And Sobble and Glimmet in the Sweeper position." Meaning that things were rounding out nicely. She wanted to be a more aggressive fighter, which meant she was going to have to focus on her frontliners. Backline was fine but... Someone else could take care of that.

"Support does make sense, I suppose... I'm still figuring my final team out, but my Rowlet's a Tank, my Paldean Wooper's a Sweeper, and my Noibat's Support... nice and even, at least for now."
Hearing the other woman describe her team, though, a pattern became clear to Valentine, and she couldn't help but comment on it.
"You're a fan of Poison-types, then, I take it?" Three out of four mentioned seemed like a clear enough pattern to Valentine, at least. She wouldn't have guessed that her fellow Flabebe-hatcher would be a Poison-type fan, but then, it took all kinds... and she wasn't opposed to Poison-types, at any rate. Glimmet was a pretty nifty Pokemon; Valentine wouldn't mind having one of those herself down the line. And Venonat was always nice, and of course her Paldean Wooper was part Poison-type too...
