Brianna was making dinner, which she usually did, unless dad got especially whiny about going out to get ramen. Which, like, valid. But he was playing his "silly videogame" with the "little animals," so probably not going out tonight.
She hummed to herself, slowly finishing chopping everything. Tonight was fried rice, aka "get all the vegetables into everyone" night, which also happened to be "be sure to slip Bumble a stray shrimp" night. This rice pulled double duty. She grabbed the eggs, beating them, turning back to the stove-
And there was a noise, weird enough to have her turning, looking over into the rest of the apartment. "Dad?" She called, setting down the bowl and heading out. "You okay?"
He was obviously not. He was sitting up, the headset ripped away, eyes red and wild, staring desperately up at Bria when she entered. "Bria?" He asked, and she moved to sit by him, pulling him into a hug.
"Ssh, it's okay, I'm here." Brianna soothed, hating how tightly he grabbed onto her, like even now something might rip them apart. She didnt know the details, and never would- but damn if some nights she didn't think about finding these people, and giving them something to have nightmares about.
"You're here, we're both at home. We're safe. The cats are safe." As if on cue, Bumble toddled over, looking up at them with her eyes huge, and slightly crossed, the left weepy around the edges from whatever ancient cat disease cocktail she had. She made a raspy whine, met Bria's gaze, and with the empathy of a chipmunk who picked a fight with a semi... wandered over to her food bowl, pointedly licking at the scraps. "Bumble's crying because its not dinner yet."

Red Velvet grinned in response. "Sick," He said, turning to head straight for the place. Green grass, picket fence, couldn't miss it. "Don't ask too many questions. Apparently whoever designed her had a fetish for getting stuck in dialogue boxes for irl hours." He explained, only hopefully intelligibly, pushing open the front door to the place.
The air smelled of tea and candle smoke, mint and lemon, and Red Velvet half-tripped over the threshold as he was walking in. "Ah, fuck-"
"Kids?" The call came from further in the house, their mother sweeping into view, looking at the pair of trainers- And giving a soft, gentle smile. "Oh, look at you both- It's so good to see you again!" She said, moving over to give Red Velvet a surprisingly strong hug, looking to Galatea next for whatever the young trainer was most comfortable with.
"Hey, so, we heard about our dads" Red Velvet started, trying to nip this quest in the bud. "Terrible, tragic stuff that happened with the... everything. So! We just came by to get our shoes and get on our way."
"Of course- Come in, I've just put some tea on. Red Velvet, dear, could you get the sugar down? And Galatea! How have you been?" Mom said, ushering the two into the kitchen. Red Velvet stifled a groan. This was going to take forever. |

Honestly, the first thing Red Velvet wanted to do was start catching some sick pokemon. The second was to find his dad, but honestly the pokemon had to come first. That was like... the most basic of basics.
Unfortunately, though, the pokemon had to come second because some power-tripping developer had locked RUNNING behind a party-only quest. Like, whose idea was that? Even in World of Warcraft, the tutorial dungeon could be soloed if no one else was queued up for it after like ten seconds.
This... was ass. He was standing on a well-marked path, the Mom House within eyeshot, waiting. Watching the other players and npcs mill about. He was waiting for a tell, a sign they were new and unexperienced.
The tell was... if they were barefoot or not.
After waiting FAR too long, the winds of luck changed, and he pounced. "Hey- ma'am," He drawled, sidling up to Galatea. "Quick question- how about you come with me for five minutes, shoot the breeze with mom, and get the hell outta dodge. Deal?" |

GAME The first thing Brianna had that was hers was a little eevee plush. Her dad had given it to her after taking her home for the first time. The rest of the room- her bedroom- was too strange, too different... But there was a little eevee stuffed animal on the bed, and that was something she knew. She held him, and he was soft. Brianna named him Chocolate (short for Hot Chocolate), and took him everywhere. He explored the house with her, and went to dinner with them (and, of course, got his own strawberry milk. But Bria got to finish it when he was full).
From there, her love in games grew. Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, World of Warcraft. If she could get her hands on it, she played it. Dad never understood, of course, but he always listened when she explained them. She loved games enough to want to learn how to make games, growing up, and she got a degree in computer science. Which she uses... uh, sometimes, but that's not really the point.
But she views games for what they are- An artistic expression, and a means of escape. Either from the monotony of everyday life... or worse things. Which is why she pushed her dad so hard to get into them- anything, honestly. She'd take Farmville. So, when he agreed to try the Worldview and UNOVR, she was relieved.
But... now, maybe, she's a little concerned. She doesn't know what he's doing in there, and he's not the talkative type. So, like, save up a little, get a second copy, and... Snoop, honestly.
It's for a good reason, though. So it doesn't count.

GAME Okay so the short answer is that she doesn't want her dad to recognize her. It'd kinda defeat the purpose of keeping an eye on him if he instantly clocked her and then stopped playing entirely. So... she made her avatar look completely different. Also, who doesn't want to play as a hot guy? No one, that's who.
Red Velvet- Or, like, 『Red Velvet』 if you want to be really pretentious- Is cool. No, please don't click off, I can explain. He's beautiful and charming and seductive and has cool striped hair and mismatched eyes. And, like, he's mean- I swear I'm going somewhere with this- Bria is nice. Like, polite to others, respectful, isn't a dick for no reason, that sort of thing. Like normal, hinged person behavior. And... sometimes it's fun to do something different. Like an elitist prick who knows more about pokemon than you do, and pouts when he loses or is made fun of.
But also, like, it's gonna be harder for her dad to recognize Red Velvet is her, which is at least. Like... 17% of the character design.
