FREEFORM BATTLEOutside the arena it was January cold, but inside there was nothing but clouds of warm, fragrant steam. Coffee, bacon, steamed milk, muffin smell, and a dozen different perfumes and colognes from the businessmen forming a trudging, exhausted line that snaked through the shop like a caffeine-deprived Arbok.
She sipped her drink, a double shot with almond milk that was mislabeled as 'Sandra Lim'. Sure. That was about the level of accuracy she expected from the chain. At least it tasted fine.
Across the shop she spotted her battling partner: Tuesday. Honestly, it wasn't so much the heterochromatic powerhouse that drew her attention as it was the massive blue serpent and flaming horse she'd brought with her. Likewise, Sarah was hard to miss, flanked by a chrome tower and a literal dragon.
"Now try not to hurt anyone," Sarah instructed her team. They looked at her, skeptical. "I'm serious! Not even the businessmen! Until this place clears out we are melee only, undertand?"
Charizard snorted his understanding, and before Sarah could offer any other caveats he kicked off the ground, wings flapping as he took advantage of the high ceiling to get above the crowd. He crossed the room in an uproar of surprised shouts, and swooped at Dragonair, flames trailing from his Fire Fangs as he attacked his opponents soft, slender form.
"Well, that was to be expected. Freedom, clear this place out. I'm sure the are other coffee shops on Cerulean Lane." Duraludon stomped behind, gently knocking aside a woman holding a tray of double foam, decaf, iced caramel macchiatos, which spilled gloriously on a nearby wall. Sarah winced, and walked over to the shaken patron.
"Sorry. Starmiebucks has really gone downhill, hasn't it? But I hear that this place has a strict 'No Battling' policy." Sarah said, and she handed the woman a business card for Tuesday's T.E.A. Shop. The woman took the card and scampered off. No reason they couldn't do some cross promotion, right?
Duraludon was clearing a path of spilled milk through the crowd, and Sarah watched as he stopped in the center of the shop, opened his metallic maw, and let out an ear-splitting Metal Sound. Distraction and disruption to pair with Charizard's direct action. Perfect.

Tuesday may just be the bane of the existence of every Starmiebucks employee, and not just because her T.E.A Shop steals their clientele and makes much better tea. The blonde Alchemist is nothing short of an impossible customer. Naturally, she just had to make that much known moments after stepping into the building:
"Grande Green Tea Latte. One pump, classic. Non Fat. Six scoops of matcha. No foam. At exactly 176°." She had told the poor barista who hadn't signed up for any this and clearly just watched a parttime job to help pay for the lifestyle of a student at the non-existent Briarbane University. He looked confused, so Tuesday raised an eyebrow, haughty and questioning. "If you can't do it I'll do it myself."
That had been that, then. The poor barista had been so nervous that he had apparently managed to misspell her name as THURSDAY, but at least the tea is average.
"Sarah's right. Don't hurt anyone." Tuesday says then, taking a sip of tea. Her Dragonair yawns, as if already bored of it all, and the Rapidash seems to be in high spirits — probably pleased that he actually fits through the door of this coffee shop, unlike Tuesday's own. "Now, give it your best shot. You can brew it."
The most damaging thing here may just be Tuesday's puns, or... you know... the attacks of Sarah Lee's pokémon. METAL SOUND rings through the Starmiebucks, causing all within to cover their ears as branded coffee mugs and tea cups are shattered note's high pitch. The Rapidash, however, is no wimp. He counters with his own neigh, stomping on the ground before lowering his head so that his horn points directly at the Duraludon. Breaking into a FLAME CHARGE he darts towards the steel dragon.
Speaking of dragons...
The FLAMING FANGS of a fake one meet the tip of the tail of a serpentine one, and Orm seems rather offended by the whole affair. He rapidly wags the injured spot as if it were a snake's rattle, and the intent of this soon becomes obvious: RAIN DANCE calls a healing downpour to fall within the building, and whatever NPCs hadn't left or hid due to the previous attacks, sure do so now. Coffee is watered down, business suits are drenched, the hastily-written college papers left on tables are ruined forever, and damage to Tuesday's team is healed in the process...
Prepared for this situation, Tuesday bring out an umbrella, opening it despite being indoors. She takes another sip from her now-golden cup, unbothered until she gets a taste of her order.
"Nope. Fuckin' FREEZER perks, this is almost frozen... Getting myself something else. You want anything, Sarah?"
Might as well take advantage of their environment.

As the rains came down Tuesday's coffee cup melted in her hands like the vanilla ice cream in a affogato. As much as she loved the environment, there were some downsides to making everything paper. She dropped the sodden mess in the nearest bin and walked over to Tuesday, who was ordering at the counter. "I'll have whatever you're having, but on almond milk," she said. "Oh, and ask them to use this." She retrieved her keep cup from her inventory and set it on the counter.
As Sarah wiped another gout of pouring rain out of her eyes she opened her inventory a second time. She brought out an umbrella, which she held over herself and her friend, shielding them from the indoor downpour. The baristas were working hard to keep up with the influx of 'to go' orders, and as Kindler powers kicked in Sarah felt like she was getting blasted with steam alongside the beans. Having your clothes dried from the inside out never stopped feeling weird.
Charizard let go of Orm's tail as the momentum of his rapid dive sent him sliding across the rain slick floor. But any movement can be turned into a weapon, and he kicked off the wall, tail slapping against the green wallpaper and leaving a scorching skid mark in his wake as he soared straight towards Orm.
The plan was simple. Use his superior speed to come at Orm again and again. Despite the big eyes, Dragonair couldn't see 360 degrees, and there would always be some sort of an opening, and plenty of length to attack. Ron shot past Orm, claws flashing as he slashed out along his opponent's length with wicked Dragon Claws.
Rapidash's Flame Charge broke against Duraludon like a handheld blowtorch across the top of a crème Brule cappuccino. He could feel his steely side caramelizing, and the rain didn't do nearly enough to quench the burn.
But Freedom was a Tank. He lived to take hits and dish out payback, and if this racehorse was coming at him with everything right out of the gate then he would respond in turn.
His wound sizzled, shuddering with compressed energy before his metal side completely BURST, blasting Rapidash with the reaction to his initial, brutal action. Payback, courtesy of Newton's Third Law.

"Hmm... Frappe, then." Tuesday decides, squinting at the menú displayed overhead. She ignores the way drops of water incessantly fall upon the images of drinks with way too much whipped cream, just as she ignores how said drops of water freeze upon contact with her body up where the umbrella does not reach. "You can't go wrong with Java Chip. Grande. Almond milk. No whipped cream."Since her last drink had been ruined, she decides to go much simpler with her instructions this time. To the point that she makes both drinks be the same. However, do not be fouled, even though Tuesday locks eyes with the barista, giving him a look that seems to say 'You better not fuck up.' while sliding Sarah's keep cup to him over the counter, she's intensely aware of the battle going on just a few metres away. Dragonair may not be the fastest, but they sure as hell can be slippery, and when Ron's sharp claws make contact with sapphire scales, Orm jerks away, slithering under tables to avoid the attacks of the Charizard. That's fine by Tuesday. Orm is meant to be here as support, after all, and she knows well that as lazy as the Dragonair can often be out of battle, he's also as cautious as he is clever. As if to prove this point, he releases a THUNDER WAVE for good meassure. Good thing most people had abandoned their tables, though, because Orms long body bumps many of them when going under them, and coffee cups inevitably fall. By this point, between all the rain and spilled coffee, brown puddles mark the floors of the Starmiebucks — making it obvious that it's not as even as one would believe at first glance. Impressive that the graphics department would replicate even replicate miniscule yet common imperfections like those. "Oh come on, Ro. You can do better than that." The Alchemist tells the flaming unicorn that had just been shoved against the counter by Freedom's mighty Metal Burst. Thankfully, Tuesday manages to grab their cups before it's too late, and she just raises a brow when watching Rocinente get up and attempt to act as if he isn't hurt. <'Ha! You've seen nothing yet! Let's light this bitch up!'>Ah, yes. Rocinante is fond of both cursing and one liners (who could he have learned that from?). Tuesday's mismatched eyes roll at her pokémon antics, taking a sip from her frappe while she watches flames rise with newfound strength. Fire surrounds Rocinante's body when he breaks into a gallop, FLAME CHARGE directed straight towards Freedom, intending to hit the same spot as before. "Not bad." Tuesday says then, but is she talking about her frappe or her pokémon? {PROMPTS}DRAGONAIR | CAREFUL - observe your environment carefully - bide your time - wait until you're in position - carefully line up a precision shot - anticipate a move before it hits - take a hit on a non-essential part of your body - find cover - use a healing/draining move - use a defense/sp.def-raising move - use an evasion-raising move

"Slippery snake," Ron spat, as Dragonair hid beneath the jumble of chairs and tables. Flames trickling from his burning jaws, re-boiling the spilled coffee and irreparably damaging the brown and green carpeting. His muscles pinged jolts of electricity from Orm's Thunder Wave, numbing his limbs. He looked across the cafe, and his eyes met Freedom's.
But this wasn't a meet cute, this was tactics.
The pillar of strength and power nodded. This wasn't the Beta Island patch, where one Pokemon could do and be everything. This was Asper. And despite being a tank, a steel on fire matchup was never a good idea. It was time for the pair to pull off their ultimate move: switching.
Like a barista diving to grab a falling mug, Charizard lunged in front of Rapidash, taking the brunt of the Flame Charge. He roared with pain and grabbed at the foe with sharp talons, clawing for a handhold on his foe's burning hide. He forced his twitching wings into action, launching blades of air at Rapidash. The Air Slashes that missed carved deep furrows into the counter, and Sarah took a few steps to the side.
"Not bad at all," Sarah agreed, finishing her drink. "And that's probably enough caffeine for today. Do you do fruit juices?" she asked over her shoulder. The underpaid service worker listed off some pre-bottled juices, and Sarah picked the guava and mango mix. She sipped slower this time, her eyes gleaming with excitement as Duraludon charged the tables.
Freedom's Breaking Swipes tore through the furniture like a combine harvester chewing up a row of Darjeeling bushes. Scraps and splinters and shards of abandoned cups sprayed the room like shrapnel, and flashes of dragon fire colored the room in blue and black.
Sarah's mouth made a little 'o' of surprise, and the tapped Tuesday on the shoulder. "We may want to get behind the counter," she said. She climbed lithely over the bar and crouched down behind the muffin case, watching the fireworks through the reinforced glass.

Much alike the perfect blend that doubtlessly is the drink in her hands, Tuesday's own expression becomes a blend of curiosity and surprise. This setting has made it so the battle takes an... interesting and rather unexpected turn (to the dismay of this Starmiebuck's customer base), and it all makes her wonder if all of this would have gone this way had they fought at a more conventional arena. There sure would have been less weaponizing of chairs and tables, for one. "Yep. Good call." She easily agrees with Sarah Lee when watching the Duraludon's draconic flames, and after tossing her empty cup in the nearest untouched trashcan (how had it been left unharmed?), she too retreats behind the safety of the counter's reinforced glass. From there, she looks up at the poor terrified barista. "Hey, you should get down here too. Also, do you have like... green juice? I got used to that stuff after a cleanse a few years back. Can't live without it." It's not like there are any health benefits to green juice game, although Tuesday does briefly consider using it to threaten her Pokémon and motivate them. Thankfully, such harsh methods don't seem to be needed for now. Even though cruel and painful attacks, they withstands — tired, hurt, but not yet defeated. It's a hard battle, and it's not particularly pretty, but her Rapidash sure seems set in making a show out of this. <'OH YEAH? IS THAT ALL YOU GOT? PFFT. I DIDN'T COME HERE TO GET BEAT BY SOME WANNABE DRAGON.'>Loud and proud, Rocinante attempts to break free from the Charizard's hold, quite literally kicking and screaming while braving those winds that hurt and push him back. He makes a show out of it, calling for attention, but in truth all he really wants out of it is one jab — his sharp horn piercing through scales, spreading poison with its touch. Tuesday probably should have let Rocinante bring along the Kegglings, huh? And while the Rapidash takes all the attention, the Dragonair bides his time. His healing wouldn't make up for all the damage suffered thus far, but it's enough for him to last until now, and it is now that he summons a BLIZZARD to fall within the coffeshop. "As if these floors weren't already slippery enough." Tuesday muses, stifling a laugh. "Oh well... At least there's no customers now."Sorry again, Starmiebucks.

Duraludon braced against the blizzard. The cold stuck in his joints like ice cold spinach in a pair of metal dentures. It smothered his surface like winter snow against a skyscraper on Christmas Eve.
Freedom staggered towards the cornered Dragonair, crunching through the wreckage of what had once been a Starmiebucks but now more closely resembled a Denny's. One more hit. One final blast would probably finish off the battle. But could he gather the strength?
The frost seeped into his body.
His metal creaked and slowed, and with the last of his strength he opened his creaking jaws and blasted Dragonair with what he could muster of a Hyper Beam.
And then, cold and exhausted. Freedom froze solid.
Freedom the Duraludon has fainted! "Wannabe dragon?" Charizard snarled. The poison spreading through his veins burned like wildfire, and his vision narrowed to a single point: Rapidash.
He stomped towards the horse, his thunderous footsteps cracking what was left of the cafe's flooring. "WANNABE DRAGON?!" His roar cracked glass, and blue flames of fury dripped from his mouth. "I can be a true dragon when I want. And I think you've earned a good look."
The flame on Ron's tail burst like an exposed gas main, surging to ten times its size before focusing into a single, cyan flame. His orange hide crackled and burned under his own heat, turning a terrifying black.
The Mega Charizard X reared back, and blue flame roared in his throat like the cheers of the colosseum about to watch someone get torn apart.
The Z-Crystal on Sarah's belt glowed a brutal blue, and she realized what was happening a moment too late. "Ron no!" she shouted from behind the melting glass. But it was far too late. Charizard was moving of his own cruel volition, and she took a quick peek around the store to check that it was well and truly evacuated. Little victories, I guess.
Azure light broke like a new dawn as the Devastating Drake Z-Move consumed the store.
Sarah shielded her eyes from the supernova of light and sound, and felt her iced drink boil in her hands. There's no way they're going to let me come back here after this.

Tuesday, in all of her arguably ruthless, heartless bitch approach to the game, sometimes finds herself thinking that Pokémon would be better off if they hadn't been given any personalities and just followed orders, because they can't help but fuck everything up with the things they do and say. Example One: Orm, bless his giant dragon-snake soul. So pleased with himself after his last attack that he comes out of hiding to watch the fall of the Duraludon, just in time to see the Hyper Beam charging up. <'...Oh shit.'>He knows what's coming. He can see it clearly. Soaked, scorched, pretty fucking destroyed, the Starmiebucks truly has become a warzone, and in the mess of broken chairs and flipped tables, there is no escape for the large dragon. He can do no more than watch as the Hyper Beam is shot, the blast pushing him back against a wall that crumbles as if someone had truly cut costs with this Starmiebuck's construction (...Is it because its always getting destroyed by arena battles?) ORM THE DRAGONAIR HAS FAINTED!And, that's that for Orm. Now, Example Two: Rocinante's big mouth often gets him trouble, but never has it ever been as bad as what the Rapidash faces when angering Ron. Will Rocinante finally learn his lesson? Does he take back his words an apologize? Well, obviously not, because he's not very bright. <'HA! WHO ARE YOU KIDDING? EVEN LIKE THAT YOU'LL ALWAYS BE A WANNABE!'>Tuesday's eyebrows raise, sipping her drink while watching her Pokémon snort mockeries and proudly puff out his chest. He points his horn at the Mega Charizard, ready to fight until the bitter end. And that he sure will, because Tuesday is pretty damn sure pointing his horn is the last thing the Rapidash will remember of this day. It's a second later that a DEVASTATING DRAKE Z-MOVE overtakes everything, and Tuesday has to cover her eyes with her forearm when draconic energy consumes everything in sight. ROCINANTE THE RAPIDASH HAS FAINTED!"Fuckin' hell..." She blinks once the light fades, assessing the damage around them. All that's left of the Starmiebucks seems to be the counter Sarah Lee and her had used as cover, along with the wall right behind them — even the roof having fallen in the blast. "Maybe they can embrace an open-air concept."With such a statement, a light chuckle bubbles up, and reaching into her pocket, Tuesday throws a tip into a tip jar with a big ol' hole on its side. It's then that she stands and offers Sarah a hand, smirking at her friend. "Well fought, that was one hell of a battle. We should do this again sometime... iHoppip next time?"{PROMPTS}DRAGONAIR | CAREFUL - observe your environment carefully - bide your time - wait until you're in position - carefully line up a precision shot - anticipate a move before it hits - take a hit on a non-essential part of your body - find cover - use a healing/draining move - use a defense/sp.def-raising move - use an evasion-raising move
