MECHANICAL BATTLE
This was a very real message Bergamot Gristleborg had sent this morning to her archnemesis, Sarah Lee. It was not well-thought-out. She had no real strategy in mind besides "water beats fire" and some vague mind games she'd been hoping to try out on the mentally weak and susceptible chinese girl.
Morgana strolled out onto the red carpet, cocking a hip aggressively. Over the top of her usual frilly blue dress she wore a T-shirt that said "Don't Call Me Dirty" with an arrow pointing up. An interesting addition.
"So you actually came," said the villainess, shifting her weight to account for the rolling floors of the battlefield. "How bold! More fool you." She tossed her hair smugly.
Then she tossed her Pokeballs.
She was well aware that revealing one's hand first was a liability, but she wasn't concerned. Her Pokemon choices were no surprise either: it was Jack, her Mudkip, Rainbow, her Gyarados, and Guillotine, her Piplup. One Sweeper, two Supports.
"Ohohohoho! What do you think about that? You can make the first move," Bergamot said, putting both hands on her hips and smiling confidently.

Charizard (Ron) - Braixen (Focus) - Treecko (Taffy) Sarah's UI pinged, and the message from Morgana popped up into her peripherals. She tapped, enlarging it, and read through the 'rhyme'. "A challenge? From Morgana?" She smirked. Bergamot always bought out her competitive side, making her heart pound like a war drum and unleashing a torrent of annoyed butterflies into her stomach.
She minimized the message and made some swift, tactical changes before accepting the challenge. Later, at the battlefield, Sarah watched, only a little impressed, as Morgana posed and postured. She was dressed in some ridiculous attire, obviously meant to throw Sarah off her game. "Your Guillotine is looking a little rusty," Sarah taunted, "so I guess you're a perfect match." She paused for a moment before adding the final nail in the coffin. "Seeing as you're both dirty."
The devastating mental blow should have won her the battle outright, but she continued with the formality of a mechanical battle just to humor Morgana. Three forms materialized on the curved battlefield: The crimson, winged silhouette of Ron, her Charizard. Focus, her lavender knight Braixen. And Taffy, her tiny, unblooded Treecko who was only here for the type advantage.
"My first move will be your last, unless you have some dirty tricks up your sleeve." Calling Morgana dirty made Sarah feel briefly strange, but she ignored the feeling and sent her sweepers on a full offensive assault.
Charizard moved first, kicking off so hard that his tail left a streaking, sizzling, skid mark along the protective flooring. The dragon flew at Gyarados, his jaws open wide enough that Dragon Breath leaked from the sides.
CHARIZARD USED DRAGONBREATH ON GYARADOS for 242 damage The plan was simple: take out the supports before they could do anything.
In the shadow of the raging dragon, Braixen aimed her wand at Mudkip. "More like dudkip." she said. Sarah had trained Focus extensively in the art of one-liners, and the crushing brutal banter was accompanied by an equally-powerful blast of Psychic energy that shattered the air around Jack like it was a fragile door floating in the frigid ocean of reality.
BRAIXEN USED PSYCHIC ON MUDKIP for 250 damage Taffy the Treecko hung on for dear life. He'd fucked up, and had been stuck to Charizard's back when the battle began. As the greater dragon lashed and chomped at Gyarados, the little green gecko did everything it could not to fall into the magma on either side of the arena. His eyes swung around like oiled 8-balls, looking for a way out. Instead, his left eye settled on Mudkip. The little creature was eerily similar to the Magikarp he'd fought before, and his training kicked in. Ropes of emerald energy siphoned Mudkip's life force directly into Taffy's waiting mouth.

MUDKIP (JACK) | GYARADOS (RAINBOW) | PIPLUP (GUILLOTINE) "Can't you read the shirt?" Bergamot called shrilly back, "It explicitly says don't call me dirty. It's a Carly Rae Jetsam reference."
Actually, it was all part of her evil (normal?) plan, but Sarah Lee was too eager to throw shade to realize she was playing right into Morgana's hands. Yes, Bergamot had the chinese girl exactly where she wanted her. She watched as Sarah Lee threw out two fire-types, just as expected, and then...
A Treecko?
"I've never seen a green fire-type before. Did you have to borrow it from Kath Ulu?" Bergamot taunted, pushing away the familiar feeling that seemed to say 'you're about to get destroyed.' Never let it be said Bergamot Gristleborg didn't rise to a challenge! No matter how many times she should be objectively crushed, humiliated, and embarrassed, she managed to get back up and keep twirling like she was the one on top. It was one of her positive character traits.
"Anyway, Guillotine is not rusty, she's simply unclean," said Morgana, demonstrating one of her negative character traits (being rude). The Piplup gave her a Look. "As for Jack, he's... what's happening? Why are you fighting already?"
Her voice grew shrill and indignant as the battle started before she was done with her monologue. Jack was still looking soulfully over his shoulder at her, waiting for her to finish. "What? Were you hoping for guidance?"
<Peep, peep, boop.>
"You're already booping?! This must be serious." Bergamot tented her fingers, thinking carefully. "Yes. Got it. Jack, stay there, bide your time, and buff Rainbow. Heal it if it gets low." Jack was definitely going to die, so he might as well be useful.
As the Mudkip endured the taunts, wand-waving, and lizards literally sucking out his life force, Bergamot saw Rainbow suddenly act on its own. The serpent shot through the air, wrapping a tight loop around Guillotine with a Whirlpool meant to lift her fighting spirit. The pool buoyed the penguin up even as Charizard's fangs brought Rainbow back down.
"Ride that momentum!" Bergamot cried, barely able to keep her footing as the floors rolled like uneasy waves beneath them. Drops of water hissed and splattered through the grating as they impacted the lava below. "You know the plan, Guillotine! Destroy SARAH LEE!"
The whipping waters made a fine diving board as Guillotine's beak elongated to a sword-like spear. She dove from above, aiming for the Charizard who had swooped so close to Rainbow. She landed on its back, stabbing brutally at the Treecko there before blasting Charizard with dual streams of Bubblebeam as well. She was no instrument of foreign revolution, but she didn't make a bad Sweeper.
Guillotine uses recoil!peck x3 on Treecko for 344 DMG Guillotine uses recoil!bubblebeam x2 on Charizard for 262 DMG Meanwhile, Jack fainted.
"JAAAAAACK!" Bergamot screamed dramatically, more to make a Titanic reference than because she actually cared.

Charizard (Ron) - Braixen (Focus) - Treecko (Taffy)
Charizard was blasted by the furious assault from Piplup. He tumbled across the steel floor, bruised and battered by the angry stream of bubbles that hit more like a volley of police anti-personnel rounds than shimmering bath foam.
A deep rumble shook the arena, and Charizard turned to see a flaming boulder roar down the tunnel towards them. He lunged out of the way, and with the last of his strength threw himself back behind the boulder, into the blind spot of its smoky wake. He cloaked himself in flame, wearing it as a crackling mantle as he threw himself, claws, wings, jaws, fists, bony knees, and flaming tongue, threw all of himself straight at Gyarados. He was little more than a mass of sharp, burning meat, powered by vengeance, inertia, and the desire to tackle that coiling devil straight off the platform and into the lava far below.
CHARIZARD USED FLARE BLITZ ON GYARADOS for 304 damage
Treecko didn't want any part of that bullshit, and the 'lucky' little lizard had already been knocked free of Charizard long before the flaming kamikaze began. The attack from Piplup had been brutal, but thankfully the wounds from the bird's beak hadn't been fatal. The first sharp peck of his opponent had only hit the fleshy part of his non-dominant arm, and had barely grazed his face, only managing to leave a cool scar across one cheek. Regrettably, the next attack had cracked four ribs (and broken three more), ruptured both kidneys, enflamed his appendix, shattered every bone in both legs, and somehow managed to puncture both of his lungs.
Treecko gasped, failing to draw air. He couldn't suck in a single breath, so he did the only thing he knew how: He drained Piplup.
TREECKO USED GIGA DRAIN ON PIPLUP for 394 damage
Braixen was the only one left standing. The only knight standing between Valiant Sarah and Cruel, Wicked Morgana.
She rounded on Piplup.
It had come down to this. The quintessential final battle. The classic duality. Good vs Evil. Fire vs Water. Fox vs Penguin. Wand vs Guillotine.
"After this they'll have to rename your whole species. Are you ready to become a Penglose?"
BRAIXEN USED FIRE BLAST ON PIPLUP for 322 damage

MUDKIP (JACK) | GYARADOS (RAINBOW) | PIPLUP (GUILLOTINE) "Ohohohoho!" Bergamot laughed behind her hand, radiating confidence. "I suppose you didn't expect my Mudkip, Piplup, and Magikados to be so powerful!"
Actually, Bergamot was surprised too. When had her Pokemon actually become effective? They'd always been supreme losers before. It simply had to be because they were fighting Sarah Lee, the Fire-Type Wonder Extraordinaire, and Morgana herself was the Water-Type Wonder Extra-Extrordinaire.
She'd envisioned this fight going differently. Cursing Sarah Lee's name as she fled the arena with her fainted Pokemon, leaving ugly promises of revenge behind along with an ominous prophecy (still a work in progress). What was she meant to expect now? Standing over the groveling Sarah Lee in a power shot with the camera pointed up at her chin as she cackled triumphantly? That wasn't bad.
"I'm going to win!" Bergamot celebrated her early victory, definitely not raising any flags.
As Charizard's Flare Blitz rocketed towards Rainbow, the sea serpent bucked like a many-segmented bronco. It flailed, it rolled, it buffed itself. Bergamot could have made some quick calculations at this point, but she went for the drama instead. "Guillotine, protect Rainbow!"
The Piplup turned over her shoulder to stare at Morgana. Here she was, taking on two sets of Sweeper attacks, fencing with Focus's Fire Blast with jets of Water Gun, and her trainer wanted her to leave herself completely open and concentrate on saving that overgrown Magikarp?
...But she was nothing if not obedient.
Guillotine heaved a sigh, surrendering herself over. As Treecko siphoned every bit of energy from her body, she acted, throwing up a Whirlpool shield to cloak Rainbow just before the Charizard barreled into her with every part of its body on fire. Steam burst from the impact, rising high into the arched ceiling of the rolling battlefield. When the smoke cleared, Gyarados was miraculously untouched.
Too bad Guillotine wasn't. As the last Fire Blast surged towards her undefended form, she had no defense: only a counterattack. Quickly spying the five weak points in the 大-shaped blast, she let off a volley of Water Gun bullets, one between each arm of the tremendous move. Before she took full damage, she closed her eyes, hoping the brief volley was enough to at least take the purple fox with her.
Guillotine uses water gun x5 on focus for 302 DMG This left Rainbow alone.
It continued to roll and flail like an earthworm on the sidewalk, healing itself even as the energy drain wore at its body, and abruptly shot into the sky. Bergamot's Swimmer ability allowed her water-types extreme mobility in the air, and Guillotine sought cover above the rolling floors and the surging fireballs that burst out from the giant statue's mouth. She flew up and above the crown of the giant carved face, seeking cover from the attacks to come.
"...Watch out. I'm going to use my Z-Move next turn," Bergamot said cunningly, preparing her Z-Pose still in her stupid "Don't Call Me Dirty" T-shirt. This was an absolute bluff, and honestly just an attempt to distract and intimidate Sarah Lee. Would it work? Find out next time on They See Me Rollin' [Sarah Lee]!

Charizard (Ron) - Braixen (Focus) - Treecko (Taffy) "You dir-" she cut herself short, hit by a terrible realization.
The bottom dropped out of her stomach, and she nearly fell into the magma alongside her Charizard.
She was being played!
The healing strategy, the water Pokemon, the shirt! It was all part of Morgana's plan. She'd actually come prepared! And not just that, but she was going to win!
An icy sheen formed around Sarah's heart. She wasn't about to lose. Not to Morgana. Not like this.
She met her rival's eyes and unclenched her jaw. "You aren't dirty." Sarah said, her voice measured. "In fact, you look almost clean. Too clean, actually. Did you get your teeth bleached again?"
Psychological warfare complete, she turned her attention back to the battle.
She felt her perception widen like a fisheye lens, encompassing the stage, hazards, and her impending (but not inevitable loss).
Taffy lay crumped on the sizzling floor. She returned him. Charizard bobbed in the lava. She returned him too.
Braixen had suffered fatal damage. In moments she would be collapsed and returned with the others. But that just means that there was still time.
"Braixen, it's time to finish this. By any means necessary. Z-Move. Recoil. Obliterate that Gyarados."
The armored fox panted, her breath crackling like fireworks. "As you wish." With one arm clenched around her battered chest, Focus pointed her other hand at the winding dragon, her fingers open. Tendrils of fuchsia flames ignited around Gyarados, licking at the air like the coiling arms of a gas stove.
Braixen slowly closed her mailed fist, and the flames curled inwards like the petals of a burning flower. Searing, inevitable, they closed in around her opponent. "INFERNO OVERDRIVE."

MUDKIP (JACK) | GYARADOS (RAINBOW) | PIPLUP (GUILLOTINE) Sarah Lee was onto her!
She should have seen the signs. Hadn't The Incredibles taught her anything about monologuing? She should have known it was only a matter of time before the chinese girl picked up on her devious plan to acquire the Muddy Boy/Girl trainer title (yes, that was it.) Sarah Lee was probably rolling in her bed at night, wishing she too could aspire to have such an excellent banner of merit flying above her username.
"So you've finally realized," Bergamot said, covering her face with one hand so that it shadowed her eyes. "Very good! Ha... ha... HA..."
She spread her hands. "Let's face it, Sarah Lee. I'm already so far ahead of you on the way to acquiring the Muddy Boy/Girl title," she gloated. "It's too late— my machinations are already almost complete. And I know your weakness."
Morgana spun around triumphantly, skirts flaring out in the waves of hot air coming off the nearby lava. "You don't have a Mudkip."
All of this dialogue was a distraction from the battlefield, which was absolutely sublime. The epic clash threw up clouds of steam as fuscia flames boiled from the fainting Focus, capturing Rainbow at the heart of the inferno. From above, a Waterfall opened up and poured down in a hundred-foot plunge from the heavens, cloaking the Gyarados in a curtain of crashing water.
Inferno.
Waterfall.
Health creeping down.
Health going back up.
Damage.
Heal.
The statues belching fireballs watched them hurtle down the watery drop like barrels, crashing over Rainbow's head. One by one, the Gyarados began to wear down. Steam and sparkles filled the air as water evaporated and caught the magenta light like faceted gemstones.
"NOOOOOO!" screamed Morgana in a sudden burst as she saw Rainbow's health touch 0.
The battle was over.
Later, Bergamot would approach Sarah Lee, claiming she'd merely 'forgotten to use her Z-Move' and 'if she had, she would have won' and 'I'll get you next time, and your little dog too' and all those other wonderful threats. One thing was for sure: they would be meeting again soon.
