The Misty Timberlands have changed as of late. Small, pink wildflowers have begun growing, replacing the lavender that used to flourish, leaving a carpet of petals where once barren ground stood. It's a welcome change from the gloom that previously pervaded the region.
But the darkness never truly left. Some say it waits in the shadows, patiently stalking its prey, waiting for its time to reclaim its throne.
Traveling through the timberlands is difficult at times, not just from the cold ground and uneven terrain, but the mist is outright blinding. It's no surprise that sometimes players just sit amongst the flowers to rest until the mist fades somewhat.
A mistake players often make more than once, for the land of dreams touches the Misty Timberlands closer than any other. Perhaps it's the shrine's influence, the Pokemon inhabitants, or some other unknown phenomenon, but even in these cold, dark woods, sleep can be found.
And sometimes, players fall asleep without even realizing it... Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Mist Welcome to Explorers of Mist, an experiment into running something PMD style! Your player will be getting lost within the Misty Timberlands, and inevitably, falling asleep. Whether you all meet, stumble across someone else's unconscious body, or fall asleep completely alone, just have fun with it! Further instructions will relay what to do next, but for now, I need you to answer a few questions In Character, and share the results either in your reply or on Discord.

Morpheus groaned. After class, he decided to log into UNOVR for a while, hoping he might catch some Pokemon and get some Bytes to hopefully level his Snivy up. However, fate has other ideas for him and sometimes, it tends to lead him to a path that he was searching for.
In the Misty Timberlands, Morpheus was wandering around at night searching around for any wild Pokemon. Now, he played this game for a few days and he still hasn't got out of his newbie phase. Yet he couldn't help but wonder if something wasn't right about his surroundings. Not even the tutorial phase has this strange eerie feeling when he traversed through it before. Eventually, he stopped looking around, unaware that his eyelids were getting heavy for some reason.
"Okay... This isn't working for me..." He said before he yawned. "Maybe I should log out and maybe get a late-night snack and... And maybe..."
He suddenly collapsed to his knees, still yawning as the heaviness in his eyes was too much for him. "W-What's...happening...to..."
That was all he could say because he fell down unconscious as he snored away to wherever his dreams take him.

Zac loved the darkness. It was an essential component of magic, crime, and shadow puppets. Well I guess light was more important than darkness when it came to shadow puppets, but what is light but simply the absence of darkness? Makes you think, huh?
He crept through the forest, one hand outstretched, grasping at the mist in front of him with hopes of finding something solid. Instead, all he found was more uneven footing, pointy branches, and a Sneasel who slashed up his pants before sprinting away into the murk.
"You could have tried to help," he said to Poncho, the Shuckle he was carrying under his arm. The turtle poked its head out of the nearest hole, squinted at the misty surroundings, then retreated back inside. "That little bastard ruined my best pants."
"I'm more of a 'glass cannon' type," Poncho said, voice echoing inside his shell. " If the enemy has attack priority then my potential DPS falls off massively."
"Shut up with your gibberish, I think I can sense something..." Buzzster said. He stopped cold, as a shape loomed in the gloom. Was it just another tree? Was it a debt collector? A second wild Pokemon, come for his other pant leg?
The shape grew clearer. "It's a body..." Buzzster said, just as a popup appeared in his UI, blocking his view of the potential homicide. "Stupid computer!" Buzzster said, swatting at the prompt.
Seer has been equipped The world went black.
Zac stumbled forward, blinky milky eyes that were completely blind to the world around him. "What the-" he stumbled, dropped Shuckle, and then slipped on a patch of icy leaves. His head smacked against the dropped Shuckle, and the mist closed around him, taking him to a land of vivid dreams.

If there were any indicators that could show a status of a character, Caspian's would be n00b in large, block format. He was, essentially, the kind of person wandering around, getting himself caught up in whatever sort of silliness, and just enjoying things as they came. There was no real aim, no set goals that he had in mind. Adventure was the only thing that he seemed to care for at the moment, but that was to be expected when the player responsible was new to the game. Nintendo had certainly outdone themselves with all of the options that there were.
<Look at the flowers!> And of course, there went Hibiscus, the character's starter Pokemon. So far it had proven to be one that enjoyed smelling and eating flowers more so than anything else. Caspian was starting to wonder if maybe it'd be better off if he didn't have the plant dino out of his ball and running around. If he was just going to cause more mayhem than anything else, it would probably prove to be too much of a distraction.
"Don't you go sniffing all those flowers now! I don't think this is quite what this place is supposed to look like, is it?" He hadn't been here yet, but he remembered the map and descriptions saying that this place was misty and... not like a field of flowers or anything. "Well now this is rather odd, isn't it?"
But even as he spoke, Hibiscus ran off, seemingly intent on getting in deeper into the Misty Timberlands. As if he was actually leading Caspian into it for some reason. What was the trainer to do but go after him? Cursing the whole way, mind you, as he really wanted to be able to just stop and take a good look around. He didn't want to end up missing out on anything.
"Hibiscus!" The Pokemon finally stopped and turned to look at him, wide smile on his face. "Alright, why do you keep - what is that? Hey, what's there?"
A couple of things were worthy of note as he came closer. One was that the smell of the flowers was absolutely wonderful. They were very fragrant. But perhaps more important than that was what appeared to be an unconscious body. Which was confusing, because if you whited out then you would just vanish and reappear at the last checkpoint, right? Yet there was a name over them, along with the tag that they were a player character, not an NPC.
Frowning, Caspian kneeled down to try to check on the other character. And as soon as he got lower, his head began to swim, and he put out a hand to try to steady himself. This did nothing, however, and soon he was down, everything going dark.

A small yawn escaped Galatea as she walked down the Misty Timberlands, hoping to catch at least a wild Pokemon to add to her team. Still in her newbie phase - and having not completed all of the Tutorial Mode - the red-haired avatar couldn't help but rub her eyes as she continued to walk down the path, taking note of the pink wildflowers springing up against the lavender, the petals now and again acting as a soft carpet for her bare feet to walk upon. It was actually pretty nice. Another yawn escaped the avatar as she stretched a bit, another rub of the eyes. Maybe playing at 10 o' clock at night wasn't such a good idea...maybe she could just sleep in game? Yeah, that would be good. It was late anyways, and nothing bad could happen if she just closed her eyes. Her vision was beginning to dance around her, swirling and swimming like the ripples of disturbed water, and it would be good to just...rest a bit. Slumping against a tree, the avatar curled up against it just like her apartment wall and put her head against her knees, her breathing slowly evening out as she fell fast asleep...

Bergamot Gristleborg was fully aware that dreams were an integral part of the Misty Timberlands. Unfortunately, she seemed to have insomnia. "Honestly," she said to Jack, her Mudkip. "It should be a popup option. 'Sleep,' or something. 'Take a rest.' Like in Minecraft."
"Peep peep!" said Jack supportively, having no idea what she was talking about.
Jack was a Mudkip, not a real person, which made it difficult for him to say anything except 'peep' and sometimes 'peep peep.' Or perhaps Morgana was the difficult one for refusing to turn on his Pokemon Speech. Her theory was that if Pokemon were meant to talk, they would have developed proper larynxes naturally in the wild.
"Peep!" the water-type said again. He wagged his flat, finlike tail, putting his cold paws on her leg. It was like having someone set small dead fish on your legs while you were trying to take a nap.
"Ugh!" Bergamot said, trying again to will herself to sleep. "I'm sick of missing these events! Let me in already!" Now she knew how Maleficent felt after Sleeping Beauty's parents didn't invite her to their baby shower.
Maybe it was the pine needles digging into her back. Maybe it was the fact she was sleeping on the ground in a cold, damp forest filled with graveyards and mist. The few places which weren't soggy leaves and mushrooms were full of pink flowers, which, villainous as Morgana claimed to be, she wasn't going to lay on just because they looked comfortable.
"Peep peep..."
"What?!"
Morgana sat up. There was a light in the mist that hadn't been there before. She narrowed her eyes, trying to focus on it. Nearby tree boughs sagged as they crystallized, turning to stone in the beam of her gaze. Jack let out a mournful peep as a gust of wind blew back her hair, bringing a new scent along with it. It smelled like—
It smelled like...
Story.
"There we go," Bergamot murmured, head thumping back down onto the leaf litter. She could barely feel it— the world was drifting away, growing fuzzy and dark at the edges. "That's... what I was..." She yawned, then fell asleep.
Jack yawned too— to show empathy— and curled up on her chest to drool and wait.

"Man, what a fucking day."
Orion kicked off his kicks and sat on his beat down mattress in his dimly lit room IRL. Life had been hectic in the real world. Uncle Joe had fired a delivery driver for smoking meth on the job, Uncle Mac had been dealing with too many fights at his bar and hired Orion to bounce for a bit, and his fucking car had struck a flat on the way home! What bullshit luck! At least he could go home, pop his headset on, and vibe with the pokeybros. It'd become more than just escapism at this point, the occasional deep dive to recapture his lost innocence. It'd become an obsession, a way of life that drew him in further and further wanting to never leave the digital world in which sometimes things were scary but he was strong enough to put bullshit in its place. Shrugging off his shirt and setting an alarm for the morning, he would get ready for another dive. Drink a bigass glass of water, pop some za in his pie hole, and make sure his bladder was empty. Once his hierarchy of needs was needn't. it was time to grab his sketchy ass jury rigged headset and begin to put it on.
He had no idea what to expect. He'd probably wake up in his lavender tomb and rise like a zombie to get back at it like a crack addict. He'd probably go patrol the steppes again to keep noobs from accidentally wandering into the corruption zone while he studied why the barrier was down. Maybe he'd train up some 'Mon, maybe he'd catch some steely bois for the prof and score some sick bytes (and maybe a date?). The digital world was his oyster, and he was one hell of a fisherman.
...
Except instead of waking up in his lavender tomb like normal, he would wake up in a dream unlike anything he'd ever experienced before. His body would appear asleep in his lavender tomb, eyes shut as he got some rest for once in the digital world. Dreams within dreams? More likely than it seems.

The first thing that one might notice is the cold dampness of the Misty Timberlands has faded, leaving an oddly comfortable warmth. But no matter how comfortable and peaceful this sleep was, the sounds of someone or something talking would eventually wake the dreamers up from their peaceful slumber.
"Hey!" A voice called out. Loud, and a bit too excited. "Hey! Hey! Hey! What are you guys doing here?"
Eyes blinking open would quickly locate the sound of the voice. Standing atop a small hill was a Totodile, talking in perfect English. A surprise to those who have Poke-Speech turned off to be sure, but even those who check their settings would find it all the same as before.
"This place isn't safe to be taking naps! Not anymore! The moss is really nice, and I do miss my own naps here. I like that it is a little damp, but not too damp if you know what I mean. Sometimes it decides to rain even while I nap, and I love the rain! But you guys-"
"Actually, who are you? I haven't seen you Pokemon around before." The Totodile rambled on and on until his question finally had him stop.
Taking a look around, it would reveal that everyone had woken up somewhere else entirely different. Low-lying grassland with tons of moss, and little ponds and puddles as far as the eye could see that had collected after the most recent rain.
But perhaps most importantly, is that you were no longer seeing with human eyes. A quick glance would be all it takes to reveal the inhuman nature of your body. You have been turned into a Pokemon, surrounded by many others! Are they all like you? Despite any potential discomfort, moving your new body seems to come instinctually, but finer locomotion requires a lot more focus to manipulate your new limbs, if you even have any!
Perhaps this Totodile might have some answers? OOC INFORMATION:
Players are free to choose their new Pokemon shape! Any non-legendary/mythical Pokemon is free to choose, so long as it is completely unevolved. Rarity will not count for the purposes of this event. Pick something that relates to your character, and feel free to describe weird instincts that tempt you, or aspects of your new body that prove challenging to operate or maneuver with if you so desire!
For the purposes of any mechanical combat, you will assign yourself as the player-turned Pokemon a Tier 1 Class, using the basic stats, and one single Core Ability unlocked that you may choose. Additional mechanics may still present themselves!
In your next post, please list:
- Pokemon Species.
- Class and Core Ability chosen.
- Question for Totodile (Opt.)

It was all gone. The Timberlands, Jack, her high heels, her 'Don't Call Me Dirty' T-shirt. It had all vanished like mist on a sunny morning, burned away by sleep and dreams. Morgana bubbled in her mud puddle, plotting sinister things. Her gills waved in the water, the murk of which failed to impact her in the slightest. As a Swimmer, she was used to being able to breathe underwater, but now it was like she was wearing a pair of permanent goggles. "Peep peep..." she said villainously, popping above the surface. There was a pause. She considered what she had said. "Just a moment," she said to the talking Totodile. She sat back on her haunches, using both front paws to make the opening-book motion that opened UNOVR's User Interface. To her immense relief, it opened normally. Thank goodness, was her first thought. Then she was immediately disappointed. What?! I'm not even stuck in the game? When was that plot going to happen?! After the body-swapping plot, obviously. Bergamot took stock of herself, reviewing her settings. "Well, everything seems normal," Bergamot said brightly, closing out of her settings. She could sense minute vibrations in the air around her, and realized it was coming from the fin on her head. She'd never realized how extraordinarily sensitive it was. She could tell without looking— and that was good, because her eyesight above water was terrible— that there were at least five other Pokemon in the clearing with them. "It's obvious, isn't it?" Her high, clear voice cut through the Totodile's confusion. "I am Bergamot Gristleborg, the greatest villain in UNOVR!"She attempted to flounce up to the little alligator, but had a difficult time coordinating her four legs to provide the exact quality of smugness she was going for. She ended up kind of skipping, two legs and then two legs, droplets of muddy water shedding from her slick blue sides. "Pray tell, traveler, what is this ungodly place? It reeks of do-gooders and good-doers— easy prey for a villainess like me!"

Usually, Morpheus would have woken up with a migraine after falling unconscious. But to his shock, he found himself in a small white body with small fingerless arms and dress-like legs. He also noticed that he has green bowl-cut hair covering his eyes and he felt a pink large horn between it when he tried touching it. This was odd. He barely played this game for a week, but he guessed that there was no way this game would transform his character into a small creature or rather, a Pokemon.
Rather than screaming in horror, he noticed he wasn't the only one as he noticed several Pokemon who seemed to be in the same boat as him. Although, he stared at Bergamot Gristleborg when she introduced herself. "Please don't tell me you're referring to us..."
Role-playing antics aside, he took a deep breath and followed Morgana's lead by checking his settings.
"Well, this is the weirdest day I ever have," Morpheus muttered. "When I said I want to find signs of the dream world, this isn't what I meant!"
After ranting, he turned to the Totodile. He was still in disbelief at all of this, yet he decided to approach him for answers. "Ignore her. I doubt the villainess can hurt you as a Mudkip," he snarked. "I'm Morpheus and I'm a human. Well, not exactly right now. I look like a Ralts, but that's beside the point. Where are we exactly?"

The first thing Orion would notice was a sense of...wrongness. Everything felt...wrong. "Oh man, how much did I fuckin drink last night?" Struggling he would try to lift himself onto his feet, a laborious act that should NOT have been this hard. Parting from the ground, he would stagger backwards. His back felt incredibly stiff, like it wasn't meant to bend this way. Wait, what? He would flail his...paws? in front of him, bicycle kicking the air like some sort of drunk kangaroo as he slammed back into the slightly damp earth. "AYO WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUCK" The fighter droned, staring in disbelief as he stared at not one set of paws splayed upwards into the air, but a brief glimpse downward revealed that he was also, A) Naked, B) Fluffy as fuck, C) Had no dick, and D) Had a large fluffy tail instead. His eyes would flit to the Totodile towering above him, his eyes narrowing slightly. A talking croc was no strange matter, it was just another traditional Tuesday in Rion's eyes, but the prospect of talking Poketalk to a pokemon seemed absolutely bonkers to the man. "Uh...morning bud." The suddenly fluffy fighter would proffer, doing his best to roll off his back and onto his...paws. Okay, this was going to take some getting used to. Now steadily upright and looking around he found that several others were around and slowly getting used to, what his ace detective eyes discerned to be, the same fucking issue he was having. "You wouldn't uh, happen to know if I did too much drinking last night eh? Or how I uh...ended up out here huh?" The loud declaration of Morganna basically clinched that this either a REALLY fucked up dream or some part of...wait, part of what? A flick of his tail and a twitch of his ears betrayed the fighter delving deep into his noggin to recall something else that seemed to be slipping away from him. "Anyways, My name is Orion, and unlike the world's worst heel in high heels over there, I'm a motherfucking legendary hero and I'll open a can of whoopass on anyone who starts trouble." He would glance down at his paws, making sure they were nice and...sharp, before catching that he still had managed to keep his absolutely SICK bandanna. Even when he was a fish out of water, he still had his drip.

How long he was out for was unknown. But he woke up all the same, at first with his head swimming just as it had been before he passed out. Groaning, he picked his head up, which began to clear slowly. And then came the sounds of somebody yelling his way, which only made him groan yet again, even louder this time.
As he turned his head to look in the direction of the Totodile shouting at him, he saw a fair number of other Pokemon as well. Which wasn't all that concerning, truth be told. But he was missing Hibiscus, and... he was a Pokemon too!
Yes, it was easy to see that even as the Totodile called them all Pokemon, he too was one. Which must have meant that he had somehow managed to get himself involved in a special event of some kind. The others seemed to really take this in stride, making themselves out to be pretty grand characters. Or else they were just random spawns that he was supposed to interact with, but since he had seen somebody unconscious before this happened, he was thinking they were all players in this together. So obviously that meant he should take on a role of some kind as well.
"My name is Caspian! And I'm the electric hero of... er... this land." He looked confused, but quickly came around, throwing up a peace sign. "Obviously Morgana is going to end up being my sworn enemy or something."
Caspian cast the Mudkip a very stern look, as if to warn her to behave or something. Then he brought up his interface, checking out his own stats.

"Now your turn! What's going on exactly?" He had turned his attention back to the Totodile, wanting answers, and hoping that they would quickly find out exactly what this whole scenario was about.

The noise that...someone was making, someone unfamiliar shouting for her, made Galatea uncurl from her slumber with a stretch and a mumble of words unheard, moving to rub the sleep out of her eyes with a paw. She blinked a few times, mind slowly catching up and synchronizing to a simple action that felt utterly strange at the moment. ...Hold on a moment. A paw. She did not have paws before now, and what was this weird feeling on her head and neck and back, that didn't feel right now did it, and oh, there's a puddle, maybe she could figure out what's happening. The young woman looked down. A Eevee stared back at her with the same confused expression, wearing a simple silver bow around its neck, akin to the tie of her avatar. Confusion. Shock. Then utter bewilderment as her mind screamed: 'WHAT IN THE BLAZES?!' The now Evolution Pokemon's ears flattened with genuine concern, before glancing around to the other Pokemon, and the talking Totodile. It seemed they were in the same situation too...how odd. It appeared that some of these people were having fun with this, while others were attempting to get used to this newfound situation - because really, what other term could be used to CALL the problem of Being A Pokemon Now - but mainly, they were introducing themselves. Which did seem like the formal thing to do, especially with a situation like this. A slow breath in, and a slow breath out. You don't want other people seeing you panic...which may be too late now, but regardless. "Ah, my sincere apologies for a late introduction -
My name is Galatea. Though I may not understand what is happening right now,
It is a pleasure to meet you, regardless of the circumstances." She stated with a calm smile, her new tail wagging slowly behind her, seemingly mirroring the formal and calm tone of her voice. A small bit of curiosity danced in her mind, a question to the Totodile much like others bubbling up in her mind after hearing the Strong Jaw Pokemon ramble - some people asked where they were, others asked what is happening, but one thing from the ramble nawed at her. "Is there a reason this area is unsafe? Any information at all would be really helpful."

Zac was face-down in a puddle, but this time it wasn't his fault.
He'd been walking in the Misty Timberlands, gotten UI-blinded, tripped, and fallen onto his Shuckle, knocking himself out. Classic mistake. Could happen to anyone. And honestly it was best not to dwell on it.
And it was easy to forget, because the Misty Timberlands weren't here anymore. Neither were his Shuckle or his pants.
Zac snored, blowing unconscious bubbles in the pool of rainwater until he suddenly jolted awake. "Ah bugger me that was a rough one," he pulled himself upright like a mammoth struggling to escape from a tar pit, and cracked his neck with his hands...or tried to. Suddenly, his stubby little arms were too short to do anything with.
He couldn't crack his own neck, he couldn't drive a speedboat, he couldn't perform closeup magic, and he couldn't play the cello (he'd had lessons but there wasn't one on hand. In a pinch he could probably pivot to bass though).
The rainy grassland was full of unfamiliar faces. That's not because Zac didn't know the people (which was true), but also because those people were now Pokemon (that he also didn't know). The Pokemon were gathered around a blue alligator thing with a massive head. Buzzster toddled over to the group, and caught sight of himself in a puddle.
He was a blue alligator thing too. "Huh. This must be one of those avatar things I keep hearing about."
Unfazed by his transformation, Buzzster joined the other. He blinked at the fuzzy, bandana-wearing Eevee next to him "orioncayge ay? Like the fighter?" he asked, overhearing the Eevee's introduction. "Makes sense. You're a big guy, aintcha?" he said to the shoulder-height Pokemon. "Nice head thing. Kinda like a magic cloth. You could hide some cards under there. A coin, or a dove maybe. Good thinking, keep 'em guessing. Name's Zac." He stuck out a stubble blue hand to 'shake'.
He looked between orioncayge and Galatea. "Are you two related?" he asked the Eevees.
A thought struck him, and he addressed the Totodile at the center of the group. "Hey! Are we related?"
They weren't, but Zac's legitimate niece was standing right next to him. He'd been searching for her in-game for months, and had unfortunately been unconscious during the villainous Mudkip's introduction. "What is this place?" he asked his aquatic relative.
