He stood before the gate again.

The cat was swirling around his ankles, meowing and whining. He didn't care. He couldn't care. This close, within eyeshot of the roiling corruption, his arm seared, the pounding in his head beating black spots into his vision. But he couldn't stop now. He had to find out what the secret was. Of the corruption, of the deep dive.

Of control.

Lacrimosa pushed through the loading zone, and stepped onto... grass. Bright green and soft underfoot. The sky was a crystalline blue, puffy clouds overhead. Lacrimosa blinked, whirling- and sure enough, behind him was the path back to the Steppe.

So what had happened?

"Isn't it wondnyaful?" To his side was Dr. Bunya, arms folded over her chest. Lacrimosa just looked at her. Taking that for interest, she grinned, and kept jabbering. "Nyall you trainers worked together, and with the help of the legendaries, manyaged to purge the corruptnyan!

She said all of it like it was a grand success, but Lacrimosa only felt a cold dread.

"Purge- the corruption?" He almost couldn't hear his own voice.

Bunya looked eager, like a kingly to was within pouncing range And pounce she did. "Nyah! Can't you tell how pure this plyace is nyaow? She cackled, sweeping an arm towards the idyllic landscape. "Nya'll bet mew feel better too!"

Whatever other nonsense she said was lost. Lacrimosa realized... he was not in pain. The throbbing was gone. His arm was fine.

The corruption was entirely gone. The knowledge. The understanding. How much would this set him back?

Bunya looked at him, and laughed. "Isn't this great? Though, I do feel sorry for anyaone who wnyanted to use it. Oh well." She shrugged- it simply wasn't important enough to worry about.
