Fairytale was mainly feeling rather amused. This had all the signs of an event about to go horribly wrong in their opinion. After all, there were whole sayings about trying to fly too close to the sun. So of course Fairytale was going to do this. All they needed now were their wings.
They scanned the steampunk contraptions, looking for wings that looked perfect. Their usual faux-cheerful grin became a hint more genuine for a moment when they finally found a set of wings that though blank in coloration, clearly were meant to represent butterfly wings. Or, they supposed, some butterfly pokemon. But, in any case, they put the harness for the wings on.
And then they glanced around and realized they probably should have gathered some teammates first. Fairytale resisted the urge to grimace. They did not exactly have friends to invite here, and anyone that was even faintly familiar already had teamed up with someone so far as they could tell.
But they had already found some nice wings that fit their aesthetic, so there was no way they were letting that stop them. Their constantly faux-cheerful expression was now directed at two strangers. "Hello, hello~! Would you two be kind enough to join my team? I would appreciate it!"
One of the strangers, Tiernan Oaktread , looked somewhat elf-like in nature especially combined with that player name. That would do well for aesthetics, at least, and he looked like he could take care of himself. Rose Garden , meanwhile, was a child. But at least that meant she would be easy enough to catch if her chosen flying device malfunctioned. All in all, it was a decision based mainly on practicality.
Fun would come later.

An event that was all about flying? That was exactly the sort of adventure that Jinx wanted to get out of this game! Sign her up!
There were a lot of choices for different flying contraptions available to her, and each of them looked tempting in their own way... but in the end, Jinx ended up grabbing a pair of wings, metallic and spiky, with what looked to be lights built into the end. After all, who hadn't dreamed of flying around on their own personal pair of wings, right?
But as it turned out, actually attaching those wings was easier said than done... especially since they were a bit big on her, and there were a bunch of wires and loops and other weird little things attached to it, and she wasn't sure how sharp those spikes on the end were and didn't want to find out the hard way...
When somebody called out asking if she needed help, Jinx let out a sigh of relief.
"Yeah, I could use the help." Jinx admitted. "If you don't mind..."
As Jinx approached the man, who was already speaking with another man, it clicked for her- they were supposed to form teams for this event, weren't they? She had been trying to avoid thinking of that, because she felt like she still didn't know much of anyone in this game, and she didn't want to be the odd one out... but hey, as luck would have it, here were two other players who looked to be in need of a third on their team. Funny how that worked out!
Or, was she getting ahead of herself here?
Jinx held the wings up as it suddenly occurred to her how short she was in here. It wasn't that noticeable when all she had to compare with were Pokemon, especially because she barely knew what size those were supposed to be anyway, but compared to other players who looked adult in-game as well as out of it... well. It was definitely a difference.
"D'you need a teammate, by any chance? Because I'm not booked yet!"

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/1114138222038106173/1114206910871261274/kallisto3~jpg Kallisto was here on a whim, but after the accidental Operation: Get a Friend went pretty well, he decided that he should try to make more connections to other players here in the hopes of getting something good out of it (maybe a trade or some assistance when things were dire). After sending a message to Fairytale, he glanced around at the sea of people, congregating for a chance to try something new and to get some kind of reward. Events like these always spat out a reward one way or another.
Really, the man had just been in the wrong place in the wrong time. He didn't even glance at the person beside him (Morpheus, was it? The god of dreams?) nor did he really expect for another man to approach them without a care in the world. He also seemed to be holding a bicycle and a talking raddish. The UI said it was a Chikorita.
❝Well, no matter, it appears the system has registered us as a team. Let us try not falling from the sky today.❞ a little ways ahead of them were the contraptions they were allowed to pick for the flight test. There still seemed to be some bat-like steampunk wings available, similar to the one the guild master was using. It seemed apt for Kallisto, so he picked that one, particularly the contraption that was coated in dark hues.

Aero was very excited after visiting the Surge Steppes one day. Flying with jetpack-like wings? Now that's something she could do in a VRMMO! Although thinking about it now, something about this sudden event made her reminded of the last time she visited the Surge Steppes. It seemed to be a team-based event of sorts and yet, she managed to find someone to fly within their first meeting. After meeting Yggy Br00ks, it didn't take long for them to find another teammate who introduced himself as @killian.
"Nice to meet you, Killian!" Aero greeted. "My name is Aero. I started playing UNOVR a few months ago. We can teach you a thing or two if you want. You already finished the tutorials, right?"
She turned to Yggy next. "I don't want to go off-topic, but you heard about the disappearing shrine here, right? I was wondering if it's related to this one." She was nervous about what would Yggy say about it considering it was partially her fault that the Giant Shrine disappeared. Though in her defense, it was the side-quest and Zapdos's fault that it disappeared or rather, was stolen.

A flying contraption in the world of Pokemon...
That's something Morpheus didn't see in that setting a lot. Then again, he didn't watch all of the Pokemon anime in the past as he was mostly focused on games. Either way, this flying demo seemed to be a team-based effort, so he had no choice but to team up with someone to participate. Of all luck, he found himself teaming up with a strange red-haired man and a man who seemed to be a vampire, which was out of place in the world of Pokemon.
Buzzster Hooperham's misunderstanding aside, something about this didn't fit right with him. He guessed something big might going to happen soon, but he knew he shouldn't jump to conclusions so soon. He might as well do this if he wanted to know more about it.
"It's not like the system would let us kick or join another the moment we're together," he answered to @kallisto's words before turning back to Zac. "As long we don't fuck things up here, we might be fine. I hope..."
As for the backpack of his choice, he went with a dark obsidian-like jetpack if he had a chance to choose.

Laguna knew that Cygnus was a little wacky, in that charming sort of way. But maybe the corruption did more to affect him than she thought. He was starting to remind her of a certain individual in another video game... Dave Johnson, or something? It's been a while.
She raised her eyes as she suddenly heard her name, spoken by the familiar voice of Sarah Lee . And yet, she wasn't anywhere around her. Raising an eyebrow, Laguna pushed through the crowd, only to find Bergamot Gristleborg wearing a blue wig.
Typical, yet absolutely hilarious. She just smirked, pushing closer to the Duo as the imposter was apparently content to make themselves a mess.
"Well, I do say. I'm impressed that you enjoy my style so much as to imitate it. But I don't think I'll be imitating your fashion sense in return." Of course, referring to the oil. She fluffed out her flame-covered cloak and kicked her heels to spawn a few sparks with her fancy kicks, a gentle tease.
"Regardless," She turned back to Sarah and spoke. "That belt does look pretty good on you! But honestly? I'd rock a surfboard! I haven't gone surfing since I was like, 16 years old..." The woman hums, moving over to dig through the various weird inventions.
Wacky waving wings, inflatable arm tubes like personal hot air balloons, helicopter hats, there really was all kinds of machinery here. She almost settled for some weird shoes attached to industrial fans for a moment. But sure enough, buried beneath the others Laguna finally found what she had been looking for. "Aha!" She ripped it out, a beautiful hodgepodge of a board, with what looked like several different engines strapped to the beast.
"Sweet! Can one of you help me look for like, an arm strap? If I fall off, better I catch myself than fall like, forever." She paused, briefly looking over at Morgana. "When you're uh, done with your impromptu shower, that is."

This was fun! Rose hadn't attended a big event like this before! So many people, she almost felt a little crowded and worried. And then she remembered that maybe her mom and dad were here!
And maybe some of these other people that looked like big kids, were actually kids her age! She had heard about a friend from school whose character was a big muscle lady!
But more importantly, her eyes scanned the crowd for any hint of a familiar face, humming to herself as she happily skipped among the crowd, oohing and aahing at everyone's little flying devices.
She was so distracted, she didn't realize someone had approached her and spoken. "Oh! Oh! A team? That sounds fun!" She bounced on her feet and twirled for a little bit before speaking. "I'm Rose! But you can call me Rose!" The young girl giggled at her joke, finding herself at least funny. "If Mom and Dad join though, I gotta go with them! I've been looking for forever! But until then, I'm with you all the way!"
"We're gonna fly into the skies and fight some meanie, right? I got a nice bird friend who can carry me! But I kind of want one of those thingies too." She'd finally turned around, her hands held up like she was about to sneak them into a forbidden cookie jar as she stepped over with eager anticipation.
Instead, she found something that wasn't even quite on the table at all. Sitting nearby, it looked like a mix of a baby walker and a spaceship! Of course, covered in weird pipes and dials and doo-dads on the inside with some weird joysticks and levers to direct it. Like a tiny little UFO, a miniature saucer.
Genuine sparkles shimmered in her eyes, as she suddenly turned around and just instinctively lifted her arms and bounced on her feet. "Up! Up! Help me in it! I want it!" In all fairness, it probably was one of the safer contraptions. It did look like it had seatbelts, at least.

Ibis wasn't sure what was more exciting: the fact that being in the middle of this huge group of people makes him buzz like light as the energy of the fellow pre-flighters' energy meets his own or the fact that they're being asked to do something that sounds dangerous, reckless, and potentially extremely epic and cool.
In fact, he'd been so excited about this in advance that he'd almost quite literally blown up Muin 's DMs trying to convince him to go with him. In fact, from the moment they arrived, Ibis had been scanning the crowds to see anyone they could pick up as a third. Who was loudest, who was buzzing just like Ibis was? Who else was looking to the sky like it was the sweetest, most delicious thing that they could jump into? It was in his name, for heaven's sake, if an ibis couldn't take to the skies, who could?!
The options are trembling so heavily in his mind that he can barely see through the haze of who to add to their little threesome-to-be (hey-o!), but it seems that Muin was more excited than he had given him credit for, since he picks out a partner before Ibis can start speaking. Pretty, with long silvery hair? Huh... Pace sensed a trend happening here.
Luckily for Muin - and unluckily, perhaps, for Silvermoon - Ibis takes it upon himself to bridge the gap. While his silverhaired partner may have made eye contact first, Ibis makes physical contact when he strides over, chill as an iceberg, and pops a hand on Silvermoon's shoulder accompanied with a "Hey."
"We need a third, my pal here thinks you're a good match, and I agree, since we're both pretty cool and you seem cool too, duh"
To try and play down the "me and my boyfriend saw you across the bar and really liked your style" vibes, he removes his hand and replaces it with, simply, a beaming smile.

Tiernan had gone to the Steppe out of curiosity- the notion of a pre-raid event, naturally, spoke to a raid event soon, and he needed to figure out if that was even something he was interested in. If it was something he even had the time for....
But this, at least, seemed quick and simple. The man in charge- Cygnus, the ui said- was talking about taking the skies, and had an array of machinery and contraptions laid out, with other players taking them as they pleased. Interesting... but would any of them work?
Tiernan found himself called to, drawn from his musings by a waifish figure. He didn't respond instantly- but someone else did, a little girl bouncing and spinning. Rose- a cute child. Tiernan watched her run around, and eventually find her own machine- a little... ufo, of all things. Tiernan wasn't sure that fit, mechanically, with the brassy steampunk items... but neither did half the things players were picking up.
Just as quickly, Tiernan moved over to Rose, picking her up and helping her into the saucer. "And there you go," He murmured, buckling her in. "And that feels okay?" Tiernan fussed another moment with the straps, ensuring they were secure but not too tight.
Finally, he turned back to the original player who'd called out to him. "A team, then," He affirmed. Fairytale, Rose, and then himself- what a quaint little group. Musing over that, he turned to the table of supplies, pulling something free- wood and canvas, paired together to make gliding wings. It was interesting... but would it work?

Silvermoon wasn't sure about the whole thing- They'd come to the steppes because the message had come from Cygnus, and it felt... obligatory, being part of his guild. But... But now it was apparent that everyone was meant to be flying, up in the air, and nothing that Cygnus seemed to have brought seemed... too stable.
They eased their way to the table, coming away from the commotion with a simple glider- well, simple compared to the rest of it all. It looked like something out of the new Zelda game... It even had streamers along the back, to be prettier.
But... everyone else was grouping up. Silvermoon looked around, seeing everyone else naturally form into clumps, leaving them alone. Verai and Tuesday and Saint were already grouped with others, and even Kazuki was busy. That... was fine! It was all fine. And orioncayge - Silvermoon turned, only to see Rose Garden scooped up. It was a bitter-sweet realization, recognizing so many faces as friends... and having none of them avaliable.
Silvermoon looked around again, trying not to be panicked- trying very, very hard not to panic- and froze as they met someone's gaze, shockingly cold purple eyes, that seemed more tired and dismissive than helpful in any capacity. Wh- why was he just staring at them?
The hand on their shoulder was sudden, Silvermoon starting and glancing up at someone else- utterly and entirely different. All warmth and affection.
You seem cool too, duh.
Silvermoon blinked, and tried to say something intelligible. "I- um- thank you, I-"
No, I'm fine, thanks- No, I have my own group over here- No, this is all a little too much-
"... I'd love to." Silvermoon answered instead, giving ibis a still nervous, but relieved smile.

M'Foxy stood in the steppe, and took in a big breath of fresh air. This... was the shit. Not a care in the world- just open plains, and the impending lightning storm that always loomed in the steppe.
And, of course, the horde of people clamoring around Doctor Science and his Anti-Bird Tirade. M'Fox got it- birds were conniving, cruel things. They knew too much. They flew too close to the sun (metaphorically; their literal flying height was usually too low), especially when they lived among Man.
Something that could use tools and knew the grace of a hot McDonald's french fry had no business also having natural wings. Did their pride know no bounds?
She was drawn from her darker Bird Musings by a shout. Foxy! Honestly.... Theron was considering having people call him that irl. It utterly defeated the purpose of a separate UNOVR identity, but it just felt nice, y'know? Regardless, she swirled, tilting her head at orioncayge- also a sick name.
He had a cool sense of style- and had clearly been a boy scout at one point, because even though he was wearing a tank top, was that Emergency Preparedness pin stabbed right onto his breast pocket flap. M'Foxy took the bandanna, tying it around her bicep over where her sleeve hit, and flounced over to join her new best bandanarito.
She then cast her eye over the offerings. There were so many, and she could feel her brain spinning. She wanted to grab all of them, and rip them all apart to see how they worked. But... she had to pick the FLYING MACHINE FROM ASSASSIN'S CREED TWO?
"Let's take the sky back from those birds, bros."

Big Bee pushed aside a board of his own. He loved surfing, but something about surfing without water gave him bad vibes. Maybe this was an antigravity-belt type of event? But then again no. The belt wasn't his style, he needed something cool. He needed something unique. He needed something "blue!" said Big Bee, and he reached into the pile and pulled out a helmet.
It had a glowing blue crystal embedded in the top, and engraved on the side in spidery handwriting were the words: somnia leviora nimbus.
"Oh hell yeah! Check this out guys!" Bee said to orioncayge and M'Foxy. Big Bee slipped the helmet on, wrapping his backup bandana around it for extra security. There was no chin strap or clamping mechanism, but something told him that it would stay on as long as he wanted it to.
"Alright! You two ready?" he asked his bandanaditos. "Let's turn this attitude into altitude!"

"Well done," Cygnus says, surveying you all like a rough draft just starting to come together. "You have all managed to divide into groups." He speaks without sarcasm, as if he is used to working with less than reliable players.
"I see some of you have Pokemon out," he says, "but at this early stage they will be more of a distraction than any help to you. Cindy-- ahem. CLAW will take them for now."
A shapely figure in a wide-brimmed black hat saunters forward, flanked by leather-wearing goons. "Hello, new blood," she purrs, amber eyes sliding over the crowd like you're already oiled up. "Might just be my little bias, but--" She lays a hand on the Mythstar guild leader's arm, "Cyg's new gear suits you. Some of you too well..."
"Agh!" says Cygnus, pulling his arm away and frowning deeply. "Begone already, woman!"
"I'll be runnin' my own little training block just over yonder," CLAW continues as if nothing happened. She gestures fluidly to a secondary training field, roped off in the Creed colors. "Pokemon only. Though I might make time for someone... special." The smell of her perfume winds through the assembly like a feather boa as she moves through the crowd, collecting spare Pokemon as easily as alimony. "Don't you worry, now. I'll make sure they can walk the walk by the time you get back."
With your Pokemon off doing their own flight training, Cygnus resumes his speech. "I assume you have all managed to acquaint yourself with the basics of your respective devices," he says, nodding to himself as he notes your confident airs. "But now I ask a little more of you."
"You must achieve altitude under your own power. This is the first step to mastery of the skies."
He presses a button on his own belt. Steam billows out through pipes fitted inside his mechanized suit, and the guild leader rise into the sky above the group. As you follow his ascent you see a flock of Ducklett, flapping in a circle some fifty feet above the ground and out over the thick grass of the Steppes.
"There are two components to flight. First is the vertical," Cygnus calls, as he soars upwards. With a puff of steam he draws level with the ring of ducks. "Second, is the horizontal." He turns a dial and steam jets from his boots, pushing him elegantly towards the Ducklett. He passes through the ring and stops on the other side.
Task complete, he takes out a large, copper pocket-watch. "You have ten minutes to reach the goal," Cygnus calls. "I don't want to see any pushing, pulling, or dragging, just good old fashioned teamwork and ingenuity! And remember, your brain is useful for more than just cooling blood!"
He presses the knob and a timer appears in the corner of your screen, counting down from ten minutes. "Time starts now!"

They say that birds of a feather flock together, and there may just be some truth to that, considering that while Tuesday had been focused on testing this windboard/hoverboard of hers and getting ready with her team, all that is set aside the moment she sees her."Cindy, if it isn't my favorite guild leader, let me know if you need any help with those Pokémon." Tuesday calls out to C.L.A.W before she leaves, smirking and giving her guild leader a wink. How could she not? After all, C.L.A.W has always been Tuesday's favourite (with the exception of those few hours of delusion during the Precipice Crown when she wanted to kill her, but hey, bygones and water under the bridge and all that)... Once C.L.A.W is gone, however, so are all her distractions, and her attention quickly returns to her team and the task at hand. "See, told you there'd be a challenge." Tuesday tells starlitlover then, patting his head as if he were a child. Her smirk is unfading, almost as if to say: 'Ada, you should already know that I'm always right.' "There's always some kind of mechanic to these things, but I doubt there will be any kind of combat since the Pokémon are with C.L.A.W... Seems simple enough, huh? We've totally got this!"She means her words, as shown by the endlessly confident way in which she smiles at both Starlitlover and Saint alike. As per usual, Tuesday believes herself capable of everything. "Alright! Here we go!" Stepping onto the board, she begins her ascent, the sail being retracted while going up and perpendicular to the winds. It's the weirdest feeling in the world, like snowboarding but with no snow or solid group to hold her weight up, and it's fucking awesome. While gliding through the air, Tuesday laughs with childlike glee, looking back towards her team. "Doing good, guys?"It's all great in her opinion, but that's when she sees it: the circle of Ducklett. At the sight, Tuesday's tongue clicks, and shifting her weight on the board, she makes it slow down as if she had read some non-existent instruction manual. "I fuckin' hate Ducklett. I'll stay back for now...to make sure you guys get through."Tuesday's resentment towards these blue ducks runs deep, and in her experience, many of them feel the same way about her. As she sees it, it's better to focus on her team.

As CLAW took Zac's seeing-eye Chikorita, a trickle of cold sweat raced down his spine. He knew his team, sure, but there was a definite fear in his mind now that his 'eyes' were gone. "Well guys, I'll go first, ay?" he said, swinging one leg over the bike.
"It's just like riding a bike," he said to himself as he hunched over the flying bike-copter. "Nothing crazy, right? Just pedals and body weight for steering and speed." It was a good guess, and one that hopefully was enough to carry him through the finishing...ring.
"Am I lined up right?" he asked Morpheus and, once he got the all clear, he started to pedal. "Too fast or too slow?" he called to @kallisto. "Should I give it more steak sauce?"
It probably wasn't the best time to be using slang, but if not now then when?
