Let me level with you with you here... The Captain doesn't have a clue how to look at open trade requests in his UI. But! BUT! He just so happens to be checking out the actual physical wanted board when a new trade shows up. It catches his attention. So, how does our captain react?

He also doesn't know a thing about Pokémon, BUT the trade request's title does call it a 'croc' and its name does end in 'dile', so really that's all his used-to-study-marine-biology-but-learned-far-more-from-actually-spending-time-at-sea self needs to know. Not really. He had only interacted with the little flaming chimp once, and while it is kind of cute, he's just not the kind of captain to have a pet monkey, you know? Hell, he couldn't even name the species off the top of his head, but he does know it shoots out fire! That's exactly what he plans on telling that Kazuki guy when he sees him! Actually...

"Dude! Heard you got a croc for trade." It's smirking that The Captain greets this complete stranger when seeing him, ever full of enthusiasm and completely lacking in shame. "How about a chimp in exchange for it? Shoots fire, real spunky, likes to punch things? Totally what you're lookin' for, I'm tellin' ya!"

He means a chimchar, but like I said, Pokémon knowledge just isn't his forte.
