Big Bee arrived in a world of noise. The CRACK of wood being cut, the WHIR of saws, and the deep, distant rustle of a mountain filled with life beyond this yard.
He tightened his bandana and sent out Orange, the Blaziken freshly returned to a position of power, Jaws, the Snubbull with something to prove and nothing to lose, and Jam, the man. "Okay here's the plan," he said, in a rare display of leadership. "This is like raid practice, right? But it will also make us stronger if we win. We're going to go in fast and hard, smack this guy around and take his lunch money, which in this case is some sweet TMs."
Was all that time spent around orioncayge starting to rub off on him? Maybe. Was that a good thing? Hell yeah! And hopefully some of the fighting skills would be coming his way too.
The CRACK of wood being cut stopped, and Bee looked over to see the bent figure of the massive Machamp straightening up. He locked eyes with the titan.
"Oh shit. Okay guys, battle positions. Ready?"
They were ready, but the blows still landed like Thor's hammer.

It was like being the bad guy in a comic book. The blow crunched against his team, chunking their health right from the get-go. The team didn't break, and they struck back hard and fast.
Jaws clamped down on Machamp's leg, gnawing it like a table leg while Orange worked the body, kicking their enemy shin to chin with a brutal flurry of backflip kicks.

"Yes! yes! Hold steady!" Big Bee called. It was about the extent of his tactical advice. He had never been a commander, or really a very good Pokemon trainer, but he did have a working set of eyes, and they easily observed the bruises and bites accumulating on the Machamp.
The titan weathered the storm of blows and flexed, his body bulging with heat and fresh muscle.
MACHAMP used BULK UP +10 Buff to all Punches
And with reinforced fists he punched down again and again, pounding Bee's team straight into the sawdust and splinters.

The blow was faster than Bee's eyes could follow. It was like trying to watch the ball during a tennis match. it was easier to watch the players. Machamp swung, and Blaziken slid back five feet, her crossed arms smoking from the blocked punch.

Snubbull clung to Machamp's leg, snarling, drooling and chewing. BAM! BAM! Snubbull crackled with electricity, but the jolt only made his jaws clench harder.

Not even the healer is safe, and the tremendous reach of their opponent makes dodging as easy as avoiding the wind. An icy punch smacks into Jam. CRUNCH! Ice shatters against his head, spraying chunks like the little legendary was just hit with a tray of ice cubes moving at the speed of sound.
Jam growls, one of the few sounds he's ever made, and Big Bee watches him set his stance. Like a fighter his feet shuffle and settle deep into the ground, the earth parting to consume his legs and hold him still. This isn't going to be a game of cat and mouse. There are no sweepers here and nowhere to hide. This is a game of 'punch the other person as hard as you can and see who keels over first'.
This isn't hide and seek. It's heavyweight boxing.
And it's time for the swingback.

"You call that a hit?" Blaziken taunts, as she sprints to the side and bounces off a piece of machinery, angling a roaring kick into Machamp's head. "try my BLAZIIIIII-KICKKKKK!" The blow connects like a flaming baseball bat, snapping Machamp's neck almost 180 degree. But the beast groans and grumbles, quickly turning back to sneer down at the little bird.

Snubbull's strategy is perfect. Use the opening created by Orange to chew and chew and chew. He must be close to bone now, and he keeps worrying at the wound, chomping and chomping away at their foe. It's a shame that Machamp never uses kicks.
The ground below them continues to shift and surge, jutting up under Machamp to throw him off balance, and smothering any wounds on Snubbull and Blaziken with healing mud. The lines along Jam's body glow with deep primal energy as he calls forth ancient strength to back up his team.

Machamp's grey skin was punctuated with smacks of black and blue. Rising welts of purple and scorching streaks of orange where the aptly named Blazkien had left her mark.
"Had enough yet big guy?" Big Bee asked from behind a stack of wood. He had a good view from here, he just didn't need to get closer to the elemental punches and constantly quaking earth. It was a battlefield out there, and he was no soldier! He was a UX designer!
Machamp evidently had not had enough. He snatched Blaziken out of the air and put the bird in a headlock. Orange squarked as the beast's muscles bulged, squeezing her neck. He smacked her face with a fist the size of an oil drum. It clanged against her stone beak, cracking her feathers.

"Get out of his grip!" Big Bee said, logically. It was a good tactical move, really. Orange should do it.
And she tried. She twisted and squirmed, and her rocky feathers sliced into the muscles around her neck like Machamp was trying to hold onto a spinning vitamix blade. He recoiled, bicep shredded by the exchange.

And Snubbull piled on, still chomping at the titan's leg while he had bigger, punchier problems to deal with. It wasn't easy fighting 2v1.

But all that rage and pain had to go somewhere, and he looked down at the little dog chewing at his leg. Enough of that for now.
Machamp jumped fifteen feet into the air and came down shin-first into a superman landing that CRUSHED Snubbull between knee and hard packed ground. The dog cried out in pain, and as he let go Machamp punched him with a roaring, flaming fist that sent Jaws tumbling across the ground in a trail of burning sawdust.

And then the obligatory support attack.
Don't worry, there's always enough to go around.
Machamp pulled himself up and stalked over to Jam, who was in the zone. The little legendary's eyes were glazed, too focused on shifting the ground underneath Machamp to stop him directly. Rocks jabbed out of the ground, throwing Machamp off his step, but distraction can only get so far. The sawyard pulsed with healing energy, but healing can only heal damage after it's been done, and it was time to deal some damage.

Big Bee could feel the intensity of the fight building. The air was full of sawdust and rock dust and the crunch of muscle and tooth and bone.
MACHAMP used BULK UP +10 Buff to all Punches (+30)
Steam rose from the Machamp's shredded arm, his skin stretching to accommodate overgrown muscles. It was like watching a DBZ transformation, and Big Bee half expected the boss to break free of his skin to reveal a sleek, metallic form inside.
And the scariest part was his speed. The muscles didn't weight him down. Quite the opposite, they provided explosive movement across the battlefield. No sooner had Blaziken left his grasp then he was on her again, fists cracking into her rocks side like a mining expedition looking for gold.
BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM!
Fists pummeled Blaziken faster than the eye could see, and certainly faster than she could guard. Orange's arms were a blur of vermillion feathers and pale, marbled skin that banged and clacked together like a choreographed landslide.
"What the cluck? Why is he so fast?" Orange complained, as a fist slipped through to crack against her sternum. She coughed, and doubled up as another fist caught her stomach. She slipped the third hit and moved in close, using the step as a pivot to launch her own fist into Machamp's gut.
CLANG
It was like trying to punch through a raging bull. "Whatever! I'm no chicken!" she crowed, and she kicked off the ground, spinning into Machamp with a climbing kick. Chest-neck-shoulder-chin-face and off! Somersaulting backwards and panting hard as the bruised Machamp.

The pair stared each other down. Machamp tilted his neck to the side and it popped as the vertebrae settled back into place.
And he was DONE with Snubbull. With a movement like a cobra he whipped around and grabbed the sneaking dog from where he was hiding and waiting for his next chance to chew at the boss. Not today. Jaws chomped down at the hand that held him, but it frosted over with brutal, after-workout ice. The dog shook his head in confusion, just as Machamp HURLED him into the Groudon, turning the Snubbull into a frosted projectile. She collided with Groudon in a shower of frozen chunks.

Machamp roared, and he clenched his fists. Knuckles popped, and orange veins of power pulsed in his biceps.
Big Bee sucked air through his teeth. He checked Machamp's HP. It was already under half! Really? "We got this guys! Keep up the beatdown and we'll be through this faster than you can say 'brunch'!"
The strategy was working out. Not quite as planned, but it was one hell of a stable core. Big Bee watched the punches, kicks, bites, and tremors shake the battlefield as he retreated into his mind to go over the strategy. They could last a round without him, it was probably fine.
Most battle strategies used a Sweeper core with either Support healing or Tank guarding, and both of those were solid options. They were especially good in a situation where DPS mattered.
But in this battle he could take his time. With his tank core his DPS was about half what could be expected from a single, recoiling sweeper. If he'd run 2x sweeper and 1x support he's probably have obliterated the Machamp in two, maybe three turns.
But there was no guarantee that he would have survived.
That was the advantage of a tank core. Literally none of his Pokemon had dropped into the yellow yet. They were all bright as summer run, and rough and ready as breaking waves. Blaziken and Snubbull could just smack away endlessly, knowing that unless things changed drastically they would have the HP and the heals to stand against even the strongest of hits. What hit 800 damage in a round? NOTHING. It wasn't a perfect strategy by any means, but it was a way of playing that made Bee feel alive.
he didn't particularly want to be on the front lines, in the spotlight, but having max tier tanks allowed him, counterintuitively, to apply a light touch where it was needed most. Sweepers only knew damage, but Tanks had a surprising versatility. They could hit hard, they could disrupt, and they could guard. They were an sturdy mix of offense and defense.
In a normal raid he would be toast. Raids were usually over after five or six rounds! But colossal battles could last as long as necessary. He had the time to position and buff and block and get things all set up, reinforcing his own team turn after turn as he got stronger. He felt like a raid boss, just slowly growing stronger as he ground his opponents down.

Things used to be different. Battles used to be simpler, but in the worst way possible.
Big Bee remembered the first raid on site, with the infamous 'triple-classing' fiasco. Afterwards they'd redone the classing system and the core abilities, and fixed the whole thing. This was a game about everyone having a part to play. Everyone being a hero. There was no need for 90% of the players to stand in the wings and watch as one person had all the fun.
Unlimited buffs? What had they been thinking?
They'd been thinking that players would share.
They'd been thinking that players wouldn't put all their eggs in one basket.
But in a way it had bee like a MOBA, where you stack all the kills and gold on one Carry and just let them bring the team to victory. Betting it all on one Pokemon doesn't matter if you can defend them! And with guard and sacrifice and buffed heals it had been all too easy.
The changes had been perfect. No more one-shotting mini-bosses and obliterating objectives in one turn. No more turtling for five rounds and then killing Machamp with a single recoil shot.
Sure it had been fun in small groups, but what worked for 3 people was not always viable for a raid.
The interplay between the classes should be more nuanced than just "Tank blocks attacks. Support heals them and buffs Sweeper. Sweeper waits a few turns and then obliterates everything."
And so here he was, not even running a single sweeper. Grinding down Machamp with sheer power. It wasn't elegant. It wasn't the sort of group interplay that you could get with 3-4 players, but it was its own sort of dance.
And as Blaziken stepped back under the assault of a max-power Mach Punch, he was his strategy coming to fruition beautifully.
The follow-up punch rocked the camp, knocking over machinery with its impact. Saws bit into the ground, churning in the soil. Stacked logs tumbled sideways, scattering down the aspen hillside.
And when the smoke and sawdust cleared Blaziken stood in the crater, arms crossed in an X-block. Her stony feathers were cracked and crumbling, but there was glory in her agate eyes.
"I've had enough of this guy! Jaws!" she shouted, and Snubbull launched himself at the enemy one more time. He was an attack dog, and he did his job well, going time and time again for the same spot on Machamp's leg, weakening it as he tore into the pixels.
Machamp dropped to one knee.
Not submission, not yet, but a sign of weakness.
Blaziken kicked off, pelting across the open ground. Her body streamed with chalk and marble dust, leaving dust afterimages as she raced towards Machamp. "Try the taste of my BLAZIKKKKICKKKKKKKK!" she screamed.
The crack of stone on chin split the air like a log.
Big Bee held his breath.
There would be no going home empty-handed today. No consolation prize (that they'd recently introduced). This wasn't old Machamp, and it wasn't Colossal Glaceon, which players were now knocking out in a single turn.
This was Medium Machamp. And he'd just defeated him SOLO.

- His attacks deal 2d40, and +20 on a Super Effective attack.
- After one round, Machamp will switch one of its punch attacks to Bulk Up, which it will use at the start of each post
- Bulk Up buffs the damage of all future punches by +10
- After using Bulk Up 4 times, Machamp will switch to using Mega Punch, which deals 2d100 (+40).
- The player may select the target of Mega Punch.
REWARD- The reward for beating Medium Machamp is TM03 - Fire Punch/TM04 Ice Punch/TM05 Thunder Punch (pick one) or +5 Arena Points!
- The Arena Buff for losing to to Colossal Machamp is a Potion (Use at any point during the battle to heal one of your Pokemon by 20 HP)
