SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: NOONLIGHTWorld Event: Thunderfall Raid“...Trainers, Moltres cannot be allowed to join the battle. You’ll have to do something - stop her, distract her, delay her! We are not equipped to deal with two Legendaries,” Ash’s voice cuts through the speakers. Faintly, as if she has forgotten to turn the mic off, you can hear her cursing. “Damn, damn, damn.”
“Hold on, Ash.” Cygnus’s voice is next. “I know Moltres. We all do. Of course, she’d jump at any chance to battle, but who says it has to be on Zapdos’ side? Perhaps we can convince her to join us instead.”
“We don’t have time for if. Trainers, this is an emergency. I’m sending escape pods - no time to talk strategy, just pick one and get in. Go! The rest of you, don’t let up on Zapdos!”
Faint whistling can be heard from below as what sounds like a full array of missiles approach your altitude, then a set of smaller platforms rise and stack like stair-steps around the elevator. As a player steps onto each, they activate an immediate teleport.
FAST TRAVEL TO NOONLIGHT SHRINE? > Yes / No Ascended Moltres is watching as you approach. Compared to the immense Zapdos she is small, though she fills the branches of the ancient tree which marks the Noonlight Shrine. Wisps of technicolor light stream from her feathers like smoke, lending a hazy rainbow shimmer to her flames.
"You come fresh from battle. I can smell your boiling blood. It has been too long since my fire has raged."
Bloodlust burns in the legend's eyes. A hunger that can only be sated by felling those that oppose you. Zapdos’s messenger bird is perched on one of the branches next to her, its eyeless, papery head cocked to one side.
“My brother calls for my sword, humans. I cannot refuse an invitation to war.” The Noonlight Shrine trembles beneath her talons. Her touch burns the wood, filling the air with the sour tang of smoke.
"I was reborn in battle, and I will fall on the battlefield again. The only question is under which banner I should bring my fire."
Soot-stained boughs sway and shudder as the phoenix descends from her perch, wing-over-claw, like an archaeopteryx wreathed in flame. "If you would have me take up arms against my brother, then show me that you know what it means to fight."
She strikes the ground, sparking embers the color of oil on water. Her swanlike neck arches like a scythe as her challenge rings out.
"Show me why your bloodline has survived this long!"

Moltres.
Zapdos was calling upon Moltres, and she couldn't simply stand by and allow that to happen.
Glacia looked up at her as she heard Ash speak, only to hop up into her arms. "Let's go mama, we can talk to her."
Laguna had no idea what to say, but she wasn't about to just stand around debating. There was no time. A quick dash over towards the smaller platforms left her teleporting to the shrine right away.
And there Moltres remained, their feathers still aflame with rainbow light, the kind that purged the corruption. The exact kind of help they needed now in this difficult time. Only Zapdos's messenger had got here first.
She remained calm, taking in a deep breath as the calming chill from Bergmite's touch soothed her spirit. But in the presence of Moltres, it was hard to ignore just how powerful they truly were. And yet, despite the fact that they clearly had the ability to strike them all down where she stood, she dared to hear them out. To hear the human's side, to prove that they knew what it means to fight.
Laguna let out a deep breath, stepping forwards and just speaking out her heart. "Moltres. While you may fall and be reborn again, humans may not. Humans have but one single life to do everything they want to do, one life to succeed or fail by their own measure. Their own character."
She steels her nerves, feeling Glacia suddenly hop down from her arms and stand in front of her. "But that is precisely why we fight. We humans fight to make a change. To make the world better for a future that we might never get to see. We plant the seeds of a better world for those who will have long forgotten us. We fight because we know that every single life is precious, because this corruption will destroy everything, not just what we hold dear, but the world and everything with it. We can not allow it to spread. We can not allow the world to suffer, not when we have a chance to make things right. And Zapdos stands in that way."
"Your brother calls us greedy. Spreading across the land, befriending our Pokemon, and discovering things long forgotten. To his words, we are selfish." She pauses, only to motion towards her Bergmite. Their cold aura swiftly begins to warm up, tiny flames erupting from their frozen spines like candles. "But he forgets the sacrifices we make!"
Laguna shouts out this time, "We humans have survived because we don't give up! Because nothing can stop our will, not dream parasites, corruption, or even the living storm itself. I have fought my way down to the afterlife itself to rescue Pokemon from oblivion. Fought tooth and nail with every fiber of my being, to keep this world better than I fucking found it."
Laguna's staring up at Moltres with such an intense fury, anger burning in her eyes. "And I will keep fighting, with or without you, even if it means I have to sacrifice everything I am, everything I have. Even if you join him and we have to punch you in your god damn face, we won't stop. Because even if we lose now, even if we are struck down... Just like you, we will rise up out of the ashes and try again."
"I have died twice," Glacia suddenly spoke with wide eyes up at the phoenix. "... I even once gave you my everything, to make sure you came back." The nervous look on the Bergmite's face swiftly began a confident smile, grinning as wide as they could. "It would be a glorious day to fight along your side again."
Laguna's eyes widened, glancing down at Glacia once more. Did they mean to suggest sacrificing herself once more, or was she just entirely overthinking it all? Should the prompt appear...
She steeled her resolve, hoping it would not come but already knowing the choice she'd have to make if it did. She couldn't take her words back... but she found herself not wanting to, either. She had meant them, wholeheartedly. She'd fight through a thousand trials if it meant the world was better for it.
This world deserved it.

How Nova got into this situation, honestly they couldn't rightly state the reasoning behind it - but they were here, they were involved, and like hell, they were going to give up without one hell of a true fight. Nova had people, friends - more like family truly - either way, people that had wormed into his heart and deserved to be protected. They deserved for Nova to do his best to help fix this chaos that was currently hitting this world, even if it WAS just code and programming. It felt real enough that Nova could feel the icy breeze - the skin on his face stinging from the cold - as they scooped up Nerissa into his arms. Holding the Popplio close to his chest, ducking slightly to protect the Pokemon as Nova rushed to where the teleporter stood, it would take them to the Shrine that they needed to go to.
It wasn't only people that Nova was fighting for, it was the Pokemon as well - to some, they were little more than pieces of code - tools to use to fight. But for Nova, it was different, and in a way - looking at the Popplio that was tucked right against him, there was another that Nova was fighting for without a doubt. Nerissa was a sweet thing, like Nova - even if Nova hated to admit it - they both had their heart on their sleeve. Caring deeply for what they believed in, Nova's partner deserved a world that was not at threat like this - this would be for her as well. Even if it meant facing a legendary firebird and talking from his heart was what it was going to take.
It wasn't just Nova after all, right before Nova was another - already speaking when Nova and Nerissa appeared. It did give Nova an extra moment to breathe - listening and rubbing at his Pokemon's head slightly. Trying to work out what the hell he was going to say, it was hard not to feel nervous, oddly enough it was hearing some of what was being said that helped the most. Laguna was passionate but clearly cared, even if her words didn't hit Moltres - didn't speak to the firebird - they spoke to Nova, a small smile forming on their face even as small tears formed in his eyes.
"Couldn't have said that better myself even if I tried.." The words came before they could be stopped, and with that, it was hard to not continue - still offering a small nod and a smile to Laguna and her pokemon as Nova stepped forward. Nerissa quickly moved, climbing Nova's shoulder and leaning on his head to stare up at Moltres. They would face this challenge together, and they wouldn't be alone - before starting Nova's own speel - he noticed a familiar appearance of one of his dearest friends, at least one of those that Nova cared for would be here as well. More reason to do this, to make things right. Comet would have his back without a doubt, of that Nova was certain. It gave them another needed boost to their confidence, turning to face Moltres and bearing his own heart to a creature powerful enough to destroy each of them. Instead, Moltres was willing to hear them out - a chance that Nova was not going to waste.
"Humans are... complicated at best, of that there is no doubt. Some do bad things - some truly horrific - things most can't understand the reason WHY they do those things - some fight every day for what they believe is right, to do GOOD in the world, to make the world a better place. Some don't even live long enough to see the change they helped bring about - but each day they keep going - trying to make things better, because they have people to make the world better for."
His hand moves to his head, meeting the firm yet somehow gentle flipper of Nerissa - clutching lightly as Nova continued, reassured by the presence and connection between them, "Some of it has been said already, but I believe a lot of that too - I know we can do good, with people we care about right there with us, for me it's not just Humans I care about - Nerissa here, she's important to me too - and I'm going to do everything I can to help. In my heart I know, as complicated and oftentimes selfish as some people can be - there is always more to it, with the bad there is always good. It's choices, the choices we make every day - like right now. I'm here and speaking with you - I chose to be here with each of these others - some I don't even know, we haven't even met before this moment right now but I am honored to be here - with their pokemon and my own right here with us. A decision - a choice we made, even if it's terrifying to face someone stronger than ourselves - to try and speak not just for us but more, who are still fighting to protect what they care about. I'm going to keep doing that, even if some don't think I should or can - I'm here and I want to find a way to end this without more fighting - without lives being lost."
There were tears in Nova's eyes by this point, one hand clutched in a fist -twisted around the loose parts of his shirt, the other was still holding onto Nerissa - that hold more gentle but still firm, reassuring, and constantly keeping the comforting connection between them. As Nova paused breathing deeply from speaking so much at once - a rare thing for Nova to do honestly, there was a softer voice that began to speak. The voice came from the small Popplio that until this moment hadn't said a word. Her voice trembled but slowly grew more confident as Nova's hand moved just a little, comforting her and encouraging her to speak.
"M-Moltres! My f-friend - they may be a human, a-and Zapdos seems to think that's a b-bad thing. But it's not! It really isn't some people are good, Nova - my friend - they try to do good, Nova always thinks a lot before making choices and - and they try to make it fair for everyone! So no one gets left out, everyone is important - to my friend and to me too, we want to help people - to.. to make people and Pokemon happy and.. and I think its a good thing." Nerissa blinked quickly - her eyes wide but her words growing more confident, she wanted to help - Nova was trying hard but she could tell talking like this was hard, it was hard for her too but they were a team. As Nova said, they both wanted the same thing here - to not have to keep fighting, for things to be okay - but it was hard, and if they had to fight they would. But only if they had to do so.
"I don't wanna keep fighting, but... if I have to I will! I wanna protect my friends - we want to."
"And we will. No matter what you say - how you respond. With all due respect ... we're not giving up, we know that in our hearts that choice is one already made, we decided it the moment we became partners - we'll stand by each other, and our friends." There is a brief shift, eyes darting to Comet's own figure not far away before settling back on Moltres, suddenly Nova stood just a little taller, determination on his face. "Even if we fall.. if we fail, we'll try again and again - as long as we have even one worth getting back up for, it will only strengthen our resolve. We're a stubborn species us humans," a small chuckle escaped at the gentle tap to his head from Nerissa,"- and it seems some Pokemon have that trait too."
So it was, the two stood as tall as they could - through the fear, the worry, and with both now barely holding their tears back. No matter how this ended, they said what they could. They spoke from their hearts and they would keep going, their decision was made. With people and Pokemon, they cared for, that they loved - worth fighting for, they weren't going to give up - no matter how Moltres responded.
Nova would keep going, for those they cared for wouldn't give up either. So neither would Nova.

Falling stones struck Zapdos' hide like the beats of a distant drum, and Emboar and Laguna danced in a whirl of flame and brilliant sunlight.
In the midst of their fiery dance, the Emboar looked more like a moth, or a dragonfly flitting around its mate with perfect, choreographed movements. The pair were like twins sun, bursting with light and life as they spun in synchronous orbit.
The moment was shattered as Zapdos' beak speared Emboar to the platform, impaling her like a entomologist pinning a wriggling subject.
Druddigon lunged forward to shield Sarah, whose shouts were lost in the booms of thunder and rush of freezing air as the platform rose and rose into the sky.
By the time Sarah emerged from under Druddigon's wing, the platform was already slick with ice. Half the combatants had scattered to other zones, and Emboar was gone. Sarah brought up her UI and looked and the icon of Chell, still and greyed out.
“You seek what is not yours to claim. Arrogant humans. I was not your enemy, but I see now you’ll never stop until everything is yours.”
Did this land truly belong to Zapdos? They didn't want to destroy it, they just needed to use the shrine! As far as Sarah knew, once they activated all of the shrines in the area then Mistra would be cleared of corruption. That's what had happened on Beta Island, and it's what Ash had told them would happen here.
It was classic game progress logic!. Complete the major objectives in Zone 1 to unlock Zone 2. Simple! There was only that one problem: Zapdos didn't want them to use the Giant Shrine.
But why not? Why was he so reluctant to share the power of the shrine? Did he know something they didn't? What was she missing?
She was snapped back to reality by a bump from Druddigon's wing. Maria nodded over towards the teleporter platforms. The blue-haired form of Laguna stepped onto one of the pads and disappeared. "To Birchwild? Of course we're going!" She loved Moltres. That burning bird had saved their skins during Noonlight, and Sarah had nothing but awe and respect in her heart for the giant phoenix. Perhaps they would earn her help again.
She ran to the platform, and as soon as her feet touched it there was a rush of warm air and autumn leaves, and her ears popped as she suddenly dropped several thousand feet in altitude. She was at the Noonlight Shrine, standing alongside six other trainers. Six other players who, until moments ago, she had been battling alongside.
Since the Noonlight Raid Sarah had prided herself as carrying symbols of Moltres into battle. The cloak. The flaming shoes. The powers of the Kindler and the Catalyst. But now, standing before the legend herself it felt more like she was an action figure set in front of Superman.
Laguna and Nova were already talking to Moltres, explaining their understanding of Sacrifice and Resolve. They were both powerful speeches, and Sarah felt herself drawn to add her burning support to those brave enough to beseech Moltres for help in war.
She stepped forward and joined them stand at the base of the Noonlight Shrine and looking up into the harsh eyes of the phoenix. "Our resolve to stand together and fight for those we love is one of humanity's greatest strength," Sarah said, backing up Nova's words. Her Noonlight Cloak gleaming with Catalyst light in a pale imitation of the great bird. "And our willingness to sacrifice ourselves in acts of outstanding altruism is a powerful weapon. One that defies selfish logic and instead can only be attributed to communal love."
She took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the crisp air of Birchwild. It was always the perfect temperature in the woods, but here by the shrine the air was always hotter, and sweeter. Just a little.
She looked up at Moltres and locked eyes with the creature born and slain in battle and flame. Something kindled inside her. Respect? Confidence? Exhilaration? This was her hero, and as she spoke she felt herself rise to the challenge of convincing such a creature that what lay inside her was worth fighting for. "In my country we pick our leaders not on who is the strongest or the meanest, but on who best represents the will of the people. This leader changes often, but in our whole history they have never been ousted in a time of war. Why? Because as strange as it sounds nothing brings humans together like conflict. Nothing makes us reevaluate those around us like knowing that we face the threat of a bigger enemy."
She looked at the faces around her. She knew some, and others were unfamiliar, but already she felt the burn of camaraderie in her chest. It didn't matter who these trainers were or where they came from. What mattered was that they were here, now, and that they had stood together against Zapdos. And now they stood together before Moltres! Their unity was what gave them strength, and Sarah already considered them to be kin, bonded in battle. "It is WAR that brings us together," Sarah said, her voice harsh and ringing in the cavern. "Conflict. The threat of destruction. The CLASH between us and someone who wants us gone."
"They say 'You don't know what you've got till it's gone', but I disagree. I think you don't know what you've got until the moment someone threatens to destroy it." She spoke with surety, and with an unwavering gaze fixed purely on Moltres. Her blood burned with excitement and tension. She had gunpowder in her veins. "It's only when everything is on the line that we finally look around and finally realize what is on the line."
She spoke with fire now, and her words sparked in her mouth, each sentence punctuated by a a spray of color and heat like oil being dropped on sizzling coals."And it's in that cruel moment, the moment right before the CLASH, that we look around and see the people we love and the world we've built together, and we realize that the only way to save it is to band together."
"My bloodline stands today not because it is the strongest, but because it is part of the strongest community. We stand here because when it comes to blows, and when kingdoms CLASH, my ancestors marched side by side into battle together."
Rainbow fire licked along the underside of her cloak, back-lighting her in dramatic flames as she extended a hand to Moltres. "Join us, Moltres. Lend us your talons, your beak, your flames. Be part of the greatest CLASH that Asper has ever seen, and fight alongside those who know the truths of war."

The battle was frightening. Silvermoon had hung back, letting the experienced fighters- Like Tuesday , who could win a fight against anyone, or orioncayge , who could endure anything- rush ahead. Silvermoon watched them, seeing what they did, how they all fought, but-
But even after watching and waiting they couldn't move, fear clamping them back, away from the chaos. Lightning flashed and flared, winds grabbing at them- and it was only Kintsugi pressed tight that kept Silvermoon from pitching off the edge. This- this was-
Professor Ash's voice distracted them from their panic, and Silvermoon looked over. Other trainers were retreating, teleporting away- including Saint . Silvermoon caught their breath, and surged forward, stepping one foot onto the pad, and the next onto the leaflitter of Birchwood.
When they arrived, Silvermoon could only stare, watching Moltres as she spoke, and descended from the great tree. She was more brilliant and radiant, now, a light and energy splaying from her like sunlight refractions. But there was a sharpness, a blade's edge that paired with the condition of the sky keep Silvermoon from truly appreciating the legendary as they wanted to-
Things were too dire for a simple visit.
Show me that you know what it means to fight. Show me why your bloodline has survived this long!
Silvermoon's mouth felt dry. They had to convince her? To fight her own brother? Head spinning, Silvermoon glanced over as Laguna began talking- so natural and effortless. And then Nova, and Sarah Lee. They all... knew what to say.
And then Moltres' eyes fell upon Silvermoon, and they tried not to flinch. "I... I understand," They said first, voice quiet. "I don't know what happened, before. I, um, but... I know that it's hard to fight your family. Even when things are terrible, finding the resolve to- to even say something-" Their breath shook. Even now, years later, if they closed their eyes, they were back on their mother's driveway, Christmas Eve. The argument, the shouting. Driving away, and ducking into a Waffle House to cry. "But...
"But you need to stand up against them anyway, sometimes. I... I had to fight my mom. Um. In-" Their eyes flicked to Sarah Lee. "Where I'm from, people- humans- we don't fight the way pokemon do, not always. It's... It's rarely an explosion of fire and claws. It's usually a lot quieter. More emotional than physical. I... understand." They repeated.
"Afterwards, I... I thought a lot about what I had done. Standing up for myself. It was hard. I cried a lot." They said, with a bit of a laugh, wiping their face. "I kept thinking.... my thoughts would cycle between relief and... guilt. I wondered, sometimes, if I should have just kept quiet. If I should have just kept what I had...
"But- but I know that if I went back, I would make the same choice again, no matter how painful it was. Because I needed to protect myself. Because... I needed to believe in myself."
Silvermoon looked up at Moltres, the legendary awash with radiant sunbeam colors. "Everyone up there is fighting for something they believe in. Zapdos... he trusts you, or he wouldn't have asked you for help. He values your word. If anyone can get through to him, it's you. But... no matter what happens..."
They offered the legendary a smile. "A lot of people here like you. I... I come by here every day I can. Your woods are peaceful, and they make me feel safe. I hope... I hope we can make sure everywhere feels this safe. Together."

What was the best way to describe the atmosphere that Comet found himself in when he arrived at Noonlight Shrine? Somber? Tense? An air so still that it could choke if it desired? He was still trying to shake off the aches and pains that came with crash landing on the steel platform, but artificial adrenaline kept him going, bringing him into a hanging quiet of a golden tree and a much smaller but equally dangerous bird. He had never been here before, and so he felt he could never forget the sight of Moltres sitting on the branch, staring them down as they tried to convince them to join their side.
What a load of bull. Were these speeches really going to convince a legendary Pokemon to fight against Zapdos, which he would imagine was like a sibling to them, maybe? Then again, he had no idea what the relations of the birds were in this universe. It was very possible they held animosity towards each other, and perhaps that was why the game gave them a chance to turn the tide. He wasn't sure if he could do this though -- not making a speech, no, he was a performer! -- the part about being genuine, because frankly he felt like he had no stake in this, and he couldn't understand why the others seemed so desperate and laying themselves bare for an AI. He didn't even catch what Zapdos was saying, exactly, as he roared and attacked mercilessly back over there in the tower.
But Nova was here. Their eyes made contact. And they spoke, the most he had ever heard them spoke in a single stroke, and it was for a Pokemon they just met, people they just met, against an immovable object that could scorch them at any moment. He couldn't help but stare, but it was more of that he was trying that mattered the most to him. He could care less as to what he was saying, since he really couldn't care about buttering the human race to a big fire bird.
Ugh, he couldn't just mess this up though. He wouldn't know how to face Nova if he did. Kimchi looked at his trainer with slight concern, like a silent, Can you really do this?
And Comet, with a whisper, replied, ❝It's that or disappointing my friend.❞ because he did actually have a choice in the matter this time. He thought he didn't, but when he thought about it a little more, he just cared more for what Nova thought over his definition of fun in this game. And he supposed it would be really cool to see the birds at each other's throats. Beats dying, at least.
Once Nova was done speaking and the others had already finished their speeches, Comet walked forward, the billowing cloud-like scarf he wore lighting up and letting sparks of flame come out of it. He placed his hand on his friend's shoulder as a form of reassurance. ❝You did great.❞ and now it was his turn, facing the Moltres, eyes locked for the first time he had arrived here.
❝The others talk of human willpower, what war brings. You say you are here for the battlefield, so I ask you: what do you desire through this war? Because if you're asking me...❞ he took in a breath, only for a moment, ❝The thrill. The triumph. The GLORY over an enemy that seemed insurmountable, potentially impossible, even. But humanity is all about overcoming the impossible, as you might've known,❞ he would then gesture at the others who had spoken already, ❝as you have already heard and seen.❞
❝What will be left for you if you side with Zapdos? I do not claim to know your history, as I have only started my own journey as a trainer, but I know what the shrines are for. They are meant to be refuges, safe spaces, with people who depend on you. To side with humanity is to side with those that depend on your shelter.
This is not to say that we won't put up a fight if you heed your brother's call. No, we'll fight until the bitter end, because we will never stop seeking to overcome those that threaten our existence. But," he said with a grin, ❝I do admit that the fight sounds plenty more fun and explosive if you were on our side. If nothing else convinces you, at least think of the war itself. The GLORY that only the underdog can taste, the high of an achieved impossible victory.❞

The battle on the platform only grows dire as the body count ramps up, as Zapdos begins retaliating, his words booming across the thundering skies. When the opportunity to escape presents itself to Saint in the form of teleportation platforms, he doesn’t hesitate to jump on it—and unfortunately, that includes his protective pokemon.
They fall into Birchwild in a pile. Saint wheezes, crushed under the weight of his Gyarados, who takes a second to realize his trainer hadn’t disappeared into thin air and quickly gets off him. Saint mutters his thanks as he gets up on shaky knees, and is greeted by the sight of six other players gathered around the shrine. In the center: Moltres, her flame burning brighter than he’s ever seen in in his many visits to the shrine. Ready for war.
The legendary bird doesn’t hesitate. Her words are as intense as her flames, setting the stakes high. The matter is between humanity and Pokemon-kind. War and peace. Life and death.
The trainers take to it gracefully, one after the other. They rise to the podium bearing their hearts and wills, an avatar of bravery in their own unique right. Saint observes very carefully, because he’s terrified of public speaking, and always has to watch the previous speakers to memorize how to be a person.
And in no time at all, it’s his turn.
His hands are white-knuckling the fabric of his jacket, his heart in his throat as he turns his gaze up at the insurmountable audience that holds him at flame-point. His throat feels like it’s been twisted. He can’t breathe. He can’t talk. There is the entirety of humanity to disappoint.
And then he doesn’t see anything.
<Breathe, little man,> Taiyaki rumbles gently, holding his massive tail in front of his trainer like a shield. <Take your time. You need to get out of your head.>
It is frightening. It might anger Moltres. It is definitely embarrassing.
But Saint breathes.
Gently, he moves Gyarados’ tail from his face as if it were fronds, and he tries to see Moltres as simply the sun from his home. Noonlight Shrine, after all, is the closest thing to home he has here.
Even if words fail him, his fellows have not. Their points are anchors that will keep him from becoming unmoored.
“Humans are tenacious. We live only one life, and it is a long life spent chasing relentlessly, regardless of what we lose,” he says, recalling Laguna’s words, the voice of someone who’s seen far more than he has–a reliable one. His hand in his jacket tightens, recalling what awaits him–has been waiting for him, miles and miles across the sea.
“We are not perfect, but we make our choices and we fight for them, and we’re more than willing to fight for those we hold dear.” His mouth is covered by his collar, smile obscured, save for the crease in the corners of his eyes at the sight of Nova’s bond with Nerissa. His own Popplio is watching, grinning and waving from the spectacular view atop his Gyarados’ head.
“And because of that, we are not opponents to be trifled with. We have outlasted countless tragedies, and will outlast much more.” He admires how Sarah Lee speaks, as if the call to arms is as natural to her as breathing, and he tries to channel that to keep his own voice from wavering.
“But conflict is not the only path we know. To clash swords is not the only outcome.” His gaze softens, recognizing Silvermoon. He didn’t know about the fight, but his friend had displayed remarkable strength despite their fear and pain. The future they’re envisioning–he wants to help bring it to fruition. Whatever he can contribute.
“Under humanity’s banner, you would be the crown, the felling strike. There is no doubting your strength.” @comet’s words ring in his head, forming a picture he’s already seen: a battlefield, a bloodshed. A mess that his small hands can’t fix.
“But it’s not just victory at stake. Think of the lives that would be lost. To the fight, to corruption…” His eyes fall. The grass around their feet has been lit with multicolored flames. It would be so easy. A single ember turned into a wildfire, leaving nothing left. “Zapdos is outraged at how humans have come to these lands and I… can’t blame him. He’s only fighting for his home.”
He meets Moltres' gaze and steels his own. “But humans are not a disruption to the natural order. They are a part of it. We take care of Pokemon and Asper, and are cared for in turn. We need each other. For anything here to have a future, we need to create a cycle of prosperity– an ecosystem that thrives and works as one. Not a cycle of senseless violence.”
Taiyaki hums at the end, grinning proudly as he pats his trainer a little too hard with his tail. <Attaboy. Knew you had it in you.>

Moltres' neck curls into a savage hook as she peers down at Laguna. "I remember you from the attack on the manor," she looks over at Glacia, "and I still feel a part of your spirit burning inside me. You sacrificed yourself to bring me back."
"You died so that I could live again, and your death paid for the victory of your people. Sacrifice and victory walk hand in hand."
Her beak scythes through the air, pointing next to Nova. "Knowing that your friends will fall next is excellent motivation. We fight harder when there is more to lose." There is warlike aspect to everything Moltres does. She moves with the silvery grace of a sword being unsheathed, and as she prowls the base of the tree, sizing you up, you have never felt more like prey. "Your Resolve is admirable," Moltres says with obvious enjoyment.
Moltres cocks her head when she sees Sarah wearing a cloak of her old feather. "I know you from battle, and I have seen you at this shrine before. Another warrior come to pray at my altar of war. Why do you wear my molting. As a trophy? For luck?" she asks, curious. "There is no power left in those."
After Sarah Lee and Silvermoon speak Moltres looks between them and answers them together. "Everyone fights for survival. Their own, that of their friends or family. A clash is just when two needs for survival cannot coexist."
She nods as @comet adds his voice to the conversation. "A slaughter is not a battle. There is no glory. It teaches you nothing and only wears down your talons. I do not care to slay a group of fledglings."
"Though I do not believe you are so inexperienced," she says, eyes glittering with anticipation. "My brother would not have called for aid if he didn't deem it necessary."
Saint talks last, and he speaks of breaking the cycle of senseless violence. Of creating a thriving world of prosperity.
But Moltres is not a symbol of prosperity, and though you can cut apples with a battle-axe and roast potatoes in the ashes of a forest fire, you are merely repurposing something born for destruction.
Moltres cocks her head.
She weighs up what you've said in her mind, like a mercenary making sure they are paid in full before a battle.
"Senseless violence? My child, the violence is rarely senseless." Moltres prowls the base of the tree, restless. Her talons dig into the soft earth and the beats her gleaming wings, stirring the wind around the Noonlight Shrine into a swirl of embers.
"Violence saves others. It unites us. It is what protects us, and what changes the course of history." The whirling wind becomes a roar, howling like the very forest is catching alight. The earth beneath you splits, releasing burst of steam and autumn leaves.
"My spirit yearns for war, but my power fades the farther I fly from this tree. I do not believe it will last the journey to the Steppes. Instead, I will lend you my flame!"
Cracks split the undergrowth, and in a rush of golden light streams of burning spirits rise from the earth around you. Hundreds of unknown souls, fallen in battle and now pulled back from the Everworld to fight once more. They rise into the sky like pillars of bonfire flame, whirling and seething and shouting in excitement before streaming off in the direction of the Surge Steppes.
"The story of the world is written in fire, little one," calls Moltres above the sound of the thousands of gleeful spirits, "I've set you alight. Now write your own conclusion."
