So far Alistair had battled an annoying guitar-strumming kid, walked through a dream realm, and fallen prey to the corruption i nthe desert. Maybe it was time to do something a little less high-stakes. It was this thought- now that he was off for the weekend- that had him poking through Briarbane for anything that seemed interesting and not dangerous (churches to vengeful water gods certainly didn't qualify).
Moreover it gave Falas a chance to see that town and people - be they player or non-player- weren't all that scary. Still, the little sobble ended up on his shoulder, peering around at everything with sort of concerned curiosity. When he boggled at something, Alistair would stop, and let him look at it until the object became uninteresting or at least less frightening before continuing on, and would occasionally explain if the pokemon didn't seem to understand. He didn't want to patronize the pokemon or anything - his Pidove seemed keen enough - but it more felt like they were at vastly different experience levels. To Pidove, nothing was alien about the settlements or pokemon she battled. Falas acted like everything was new and scary... so it was time to make things less novel and less surprising. Hopefully.
And beyond that, he got to look around too. The game really was a marvel- when he touched things he could feel them- warm, rough stone, or smooth glass. As with any games there were mild discrepencies; but would he have noticed or thought them strange in the real world? Or would he have chalked it up to material, or lighting or something else? It was wonderous, and all he could think over was the capability of this kind of technology... both in use, and in danger. No, it was really best to experience this- more mundane, less risky.
It was the smell that drew him in- rich and herbal, comforting and familiar. A coffee shop? No, he thought amusedly as he came within sight of the sign- a T.E.A Shop.
"Let's go in," he told Falas, "You'll probably like it." The little pokemon clutched anxiously at a strand of jewelry in Alistair's hair, but nodded bravely. With a smile, Alistair breezed into the store.
