ZONE 1 > MOVING TO ZONE 2 Aero gasped in exhaustion after running for a few minutes to get to Zone 1. She thought she could reach it since she was the fastest runner in real life and UNOVR. But it seemed like her speed had its limits since unlike most of the players, she didn't have any single Escape ability on her. She couldn't afford one before the raid if she had enough Bytes. Either way, there was no way to go back now. Looking at the zone with many mind-controlled colorless Pokemon attacking the players and their Pokemon made her freeze in shock at this horrifying sight. "Seriously?! I thought the entrance was much worse. Whoever this "Hearteater" is, they aren't the type to mess around," she muttered. "Guess I shouldn't rush down before dealing with these crazies first."
But just as she turned to her Pokemon to come up with their next move, she heard strange noises coming behind her. Aero turned around and gasped to see a familiar swarm of balloon-like humanoid aliens coming toward the players. "Blacephalons, really?! I barely met them in Moon and Ultra, but I know from the anime they can explode their heads!" Both of her Pokemon gasped in shock. "We can't let them explode this place!"
She quickly rushed towards one of the Ultra Beast and grabbed their legs. "Wait up! Stop! You're gonna hurt everyone in here!" As she did so, Aero unknowingly found herself sharing a memory with the Blacephalon. This time, it's a memory of her enjoying the fireworks during the 4th of July a few months ago. Despite this, she was met with a kick away from her as it cried seemingly in rage. "What did I do this time?!" She groaned. "And what's with the sudden flashback scenes in my head?"
Just as she could recover, Aero's eyes widened as she watched their heads inflate and a familiar face washed into the zone. "Josh?!" She couldn't believe her eyes, but the last time she saw Josh, he was back at the entrance attempting to communicate with Nihilego to no avail. "We can't let them explode with everyone and the colorless Pokemon here! Coco, use your new Torch Song to deflect it!"
With Aero's command, her Skeledirge stepped forward and let its bird friend transform into his personal microphone stand. Then with a deep breath, he let out an energetic song that was loud enough to hopefully Disrupt the incoming explosion. As for Aero, she quickly rushed in front of the swarm as she attempted to pull Josh Devlin away from them. "Come on, Mr. Sleepyhead! Wake up, will you?!"
Regardless if she managed to wake Josh up or not, she knew everything she worked with the players would be worthless if she stayed here for too long. With Coco's disruption done, she and her Pokemon headed deeper within the boss's nest, ready to face the master behind the mechinations.

ZONE 1 > MOVING TO ZONE 2 Morpheus gasped at what he saw inside the first zone of the raid location. While it's not like the Harbor and Nexus, it was much worse with several colorless Pokemon attacking other players when they tried to restore their colors. From what the Poison-type alien gathered, it seemed like the raid boss had most of the Pokemon here under their control through the red mist and the colors it stole. He couldn't get all of the details since it was hard for him to understand the strange language it was speaking. But bit by bit, he and his Pokemon were able to understand most of it through its gestures and charades.
<<Morpheus, if what that Pokemon said is true, then we're facing something big enough to abduct and control all of these Pokemon!>> Malum commented.
"I'm aware of that. If we don't deal with them before reaching the boss, who knows what will happen to them after the raid is done." Morpheus turned to the Poipole and asked, "Tell me, what kind of Pokemon is Hearteater?" The Poipole was about to open its mouth. But then, it flinched and began crying in a strange language, this time with a horrific aura enough for Morpheus's earrings to shake. "What's the matter? Hey! What's with you all of the sudden?!"
The Snubbull took one glance at the Ultra Beast and gasped. <<Morph, something's wrong! It's as if the Pokemon is acting like the controlled Pokemon around here!>>
"What?!" Morpheus grabbed Poipole's shoulders and shook its body. "Hey! Whoever you are, you can't get away from this!" He called out. "Poipole, you can't let this Hearteater win! Do you hear me?! We barely know each other and I know you're not the type to let this Pokemon invade your head like this!"
It seemed like his voice managed to reach through his new friend as it shook its head and screeched loudly. [tangent=βNo, no, no! I don't want to abandon Morphy! He's interesting and funny! I'm not letting you invade my head, you big doo-doo brain!β]<<ββ, ββ, ββ! β β

Whatever Poipole said was enough to let Morpheus sigh in relief. Yet he couldn't rest now since the threat was much more dire than he imagined. "Glad to have you back. Now let's..."
<<Morpheus, look out!>>
At Malum and Genki's cry, both Morpheus and Poipole ducked just as another strange white humanoid Pokemon kicked the trainer. When they looked closely at their attacker, the Poipole gasped. [tangent=βMeanie, meanie! Why are you hurting Morphy?!β]<<ββββββ, ββββββ! βββ¬ βββ β¬ββ βββββββ ββββΏββ¬?!>>[/tangent]
Morpheus could tell from the Pokemon that it was very similar to Poipole, yet had no colors similar to the brainwashed ones. "Looks like it's not like you and that tentacle Pokemon. Which means we might be able to save it. Genki, you're up!"
<<I'm already on it, Morpheus!>> His Snubbull shouted just as it used her Charm at the passing paper origami-like Pokemon owned by a player named Alkaid. She then jumped in front of the strange humanoid and let out a Scary Face before Tackling it down.
Poipole screeched sadly when it witnessed everything, something Morpheus noticed. "Are you worried about that Pokemon, right?" He calmly asked. "Don't worry, she's only using her attacks to restore their colors enough to break them out. I promise it will be okay. Look." They watched most of the pure white returning on the humanoid insect's body. Just seeing this made their pink eyes glimmer in curiosity. This was enough to break out of Morpheus's arms and attack the Phermosa with its stinger on its head. "H-Hey! Don't go off on your own!"
But the Poipole didn't listen as it watched more white restored on its fellow Ultra Beast. It laughed triumphantly before the Ultra Beast punted the little Pokemon to the Golisopod next. Genki gasped at this sight before it Tackled the humanoid Pokemon before it could hurt Poipole. Despite this, it didn't bother them as spewed out purple goo onto its head, restoring some of its purple coloring. However, the Golisopod didn't seem to appreciate its meddling as it punched the Poison-type away. Regardless, it went to the Dodrio next and winked at it with its Charm like Genki's, restoring some of the color in their eyes. Just like the other colorless, it then pecked the poor Poipole away before Morpheus caught them in his arms.
"Seriously, Poipole! Try to think before you go around attacking them. It doesn't seem like they don't appreciate restoring their colors." Morpheus glared at the other colorless Pokemon and retaliated against the players' attempts. "Looks like it might take us a while to save them."
However, he noticed something shocking behind them. Several more strange Pokemon with balloon-like heads were heading towards them. Looking closely, their heads began to expand, which was enough for the Poipole to screech in panic. [tangent="Trouble! Trouble! Those guys are bad news!"]<<ββββββ°β! ββββββ°β! βββββ βββ¬β βββ βββ

Whatever his new friend was saying was enough to show concern for those Pokemon. Since he managed to befriend them, he wondered if he could do the same with those Pokemon. Just as he thought of this, he noticed a young girl in purple armor named Aero was kicked away from one of them, causing Morpheus to rush towards one of the Ultra Beast and put his hand on their waist.Β "Hey! You heard the young girl! Whatever it is you're doing, don't do it!"
He tried to think up a memory to reach out to the balloon-headed Pokemon, namely the time he bonded with his Snivy in one of his Refresh sessions. But just like Aero, he ended up being kicked away from the Pokemon as Poipole cried in horror. Luckily, Morpheus managed to get back up, albeit feeling the pain in his gut. "That didn't go well..."
[tangent=βMaybe you could try hurting the big meanie below.β]<<βββ¬ββ β¬ββ ββββ°β
βββ¬ βββββββ βββ βββ ββββββ βββ°ββ.>>[/tangent] The Poipole cried as it pointed to the tunnel to the next zone. [tangent=βWe might save them if the big meanie is gone!β]<<ββ βββββ ββββ ββββ ββ βββ βββ ββββββ ββ ββββ!>>[/tangent]
Morpheus stared at the tunnel as he hummed. "I don't know. There are still some Pokemon in here..." He turned around and took a few seconds to watch the other players struggle to wake them up. "But there's no benefit if we stay here for long, huh?" He then turned towards the tunnel once more with a determined look on his face. "Alright, then let's get that bastard. Genki, Malum we're leaving!"
His Pokemon quickly followed his order before they trekked down deep within the tunnel where the source of the mist awaited.

ZONE 1 > MOVING TO ZONE 2 Perhaps it hadn't been a good idea to pause in the middle of the dunes to peer around at nearby players. He'd drawn too much attention to himself - probably by looking like some lost new player who didn't know what to do and garnering a mix of pity and frustration from the more active players around him. He was even tempted to unmute the global chat for a moment to see if people were loudly complaining about him in there... but what good would that do him, hmm? If it was true, he'd be sad and if it wasn't, he'd just repeatedly re-check until he read something he could twist into being about him... and then he'd be sad. Not worth doing then, was it?
As he idled even longer on those thoughts, hovering a finger over the unmute button, a Granbull went charging past, throwing a handful of dust towards Tops and making her sneeze in surprise. The sneeze made her feel significantly better though, and so as she shook the dust from her shell, she stood up a little straighter in surprise at this unexplained boost. She let out a chirp to alert Nero to her freshness, causing the player to jump and snap back into reality - just in time for another player to call out towards him.
Her words were... weird. Was she roleplaying or something? Trying to build another story on top of the one that the game was already giving them? He'd seen people do that elsewhere in UNOVR, though he'd never quite understood the concept for himself. It didn't make much sense to him here either as he frowned at Bergamot Gristleborg as she prowled towards him. When no obvious response to her elaborate claims presented itself, he settled on responding to the only part of her villainous monologue that he could think to counter. "No-one talks like that, no-one says 'tis'," he replied, adding, "or 'twas'," for good measure as well. Clearly that was the heart of what she'd been saying and the rest didn't really matter.
It seemed he hadn't needed to disarm her logic though when her own name seemed to be tripping her up... weird, but whatever. She had a request for him - to find some Pokemon deeper in the dungeon, and, well, he was going that way anyway, so he could hardly just tell her no, could he?
Zone 1 was even more chaotic than the Sundial Entrance, and Nero almost immediately regretted coming here. It seemed there had been multiple ways in to this dungeon, but all entrances led to this spot, meaning the cacophony of noise and battle had tripled by this point. More players still poured in from behind him, the Sundial Entrance continuing to empty so that the footfall in here only grew, and so far Nero hadn't seen a way out of here or anyone moving to leave. They must have been doing though, there must have been another level, or else the Big Bad of this place was really good at hiding.Bergamot Gristleborg had immediately rushed off to a pair of Pokemon she had spotted in this new zone - some of the ones she'd mentioned? Nero couldn't see them clearly but that must be the case, and she seemed pretty busy with them now that they were here. Good, that allowed Nero to focus on getting his bearings a little.
There were more colourless Pokemon here, although these ones weren't lying around already defeated. They were... angry. But judging by the battles going on around him, they required the same strategy to deal with. Okay so he just needed t-
A bang from behind him had him spinning round to look back towards the Sundial Entrance just in time to see the last few players being blasted down into Zone 1 beside him, followed by more of the clown-like Pokemon that had appeared as he was leaving. Okay, so there was no way back now either then? Not that he had been planning to leave, but...
Okay, no, it was fine. That didn't change his plan. Curling his hands into fists and huffing a determined breath out of his nose, he turned to scan for tags that his Pokemon could assist in restoring again. There were some ground ones around, so Kabutops could hit those - a Squirtle over there and a... big bug lady over there, what was that one called again? Pheremona? Something, anyway, two sand attacks could deal with them, there was a Dodrio over there with a rock tag so an Ancient Power could smash that away, and then oh! Wasn't that a Probopass? Wasn't that what the weird girl who thought she was the Hearteater had been trying to rescue? ... he wasn't necessarily sure he should be giving her more fire power but sure, why not, they could get a Brine off at that too.
Repeating his thought process back to Kabutops, the fossil Pokemon raced in to unleash her attacks - and this time was almost immediately knocked back by the retaliation of the Pokemon. "Woah," Nero exclaimed as he leapt back out of her way. "You good?" A growl was all he got in return but she shook herself down all the same, ready to bounce back again. Her health had certainly been knocked, but she was raring to continue all the same.
"It's fine, we have a healer," Nero muttered to her, unsure why he felt the need to soothe the Kabutops who seemed less concerned by the situation than he did. "Yanmega, can you heal her? And... try healing the Probopass too, see if that works? And that Kartana that's flashing red, can you get that too? And the Snubbull there?" Nero wasn't too familiar with the 'Support' role and so his confidence wavered as he gave out his orders, but Yanmega buzzed into action all the same, even managing to remain airborne when the Probopass lashed out at her too. Her Heals were not as strong as some of the other Support 'mons on the field but every little helped, and Nero felt a little proud of himself as he watched her slash blasts of healing air towards Alkaid and Morpheus 's Pokemon. As much as he might not want to be a team player in most of the usual game, there as something nice to helping out a little here...
Anyway, no time to dwell on that. As Yanmega had been Air Slashing, Nero had spotted where people were racing off to next, so onto Zone 2 they went, the sulky teenager feeling far more energised than he'd expected to be.

ZONE ONE to ZONE TWO Just as the group was about to escape from the surface chaos, a strange eerie voice called out in a language Wolf was unfamiliar with. Wolf ears perked forward, rotating on their pivot point in an attempt to figure out which direction the voice was coming from. However, the voice seemed to be emulating from everywhere and nowhere all at once. This made her skin crawl.
Her newly befriended poipole seemed to understand whatever it was. It stopped for a moment, glaze fell upon the player and her creatures as they paused to see what it was going to do. And for what felt like the longest time, the group stood there motionless waiting to see what the ultra beast would do. βItβs bad isnβt it,β the player asked the ultra beast in a low tone, fearing what the answer will be. And after a moment or two later, the creature finally spoke back to the voice in the same language. βI wonβt let you! We will defeat you!β Wolfβs pale golden orbs followed to the purple beast as it floated to her, unsure what it said but hoped it was a good thing. Maybe?
Players continued to flee all around her, Wolf suddenly feeling like something big was about to happen if they didnβt move now. βLetβs keep going,β the player mumbled in a low almost hushed tone, casting her braxien and type null a concerned look, βWe canβt linger for long.β The group pressed forward in a made dash, emerging onto the next level that seemed to have even more chaos than the last. Great.
A full on battle royale has already started by the time she escaped to zone one, taking it all in as fast as she could while keeping on the move. Another prompt popped up in her UI, giving her a clear direction and the player too focused on the objective to do much else. As the red mist hazes the ground, more pokemon funnel towards them and seem just as aggressive as the last. βOver there,β the player calls out, spotting the varoom that struggle to control itself, βCome on.β
The mini engine roared with semi anguish life, Wolf praying that none of her pokemon have been stolen from her. She doesnβt think her heart could take it. Despite being merely a game, they meant a lot to her. βZiryan. Metal sound.β The chimera took in a deep breath, chest expanded. And when ready, the type null let out a loud METAL SOUND at the VAROOM. Though the sound was painful for most others, it seemed that the creature almost enjoyed it as it zoomed off to find its owner.
With that next, Wolf moved to the next. A pile of red hot coals was her next target, using her bolter speed boost to get to the COLOSSAL in a blink of an eye. βAgain Ziryan. Tackle it to life with some heat.β The chimera, still trying to catch up with his speedy handler, lowered his head. At first, a white glow encased his helmet. But soon after, ignited with fire. His FIREY TACKLE hit the creature, bring color back to the once partial fire type. Unfortunately, there was nothing more she could do. βThis one needs more help!β The player didnβt wait for a response from another, simply sprinting off to the next.
She wasnβt sure why this pokemon caught her eye next. It couldβve been because its an OG pokemon, most OG pokemon holding a special place her in heart. The reason didnβt really matter to her. If anything, she was happy to have seen the three headed bird struggling and in need of help. βThis way,β she called out, activating her bolted boost to be at the pokemon in no time flat, βZiryan. IMPRISON the DODRIO so it doesnβt hurt itself anymore.β The type null did without hesitation, fulling trusting his handler as the psychic energy reached out and encased the birds frame to allow it to calm down some before he released it from its hold. Again, Wolf couldnβt do much else so shouted out in the almost chaotic scene for someone else to finish the job.
Running, the player noted that some players were healing others. And not wanting to be a waste of space, she felt the need to do the same. Her pale golden orbs fell upon another player named Alkaid who looked like they needed help. She ran towards him, calling for him to stop for a moment. βHey! I can heal you if you need.β Whether they wanted it or not, she didnβt give them a choice. She turned to her braxien, nodding to her. βHeal the ultra beast.β
Izumi nodded, eyes wide in mild fear of this beast. She plucked the stick from her tail, waving it like a wand at it. A spark ignited a flame, the flames soon forming a stream and wrapped around the Alkaid KARTANA. The FLAMEs circled the beast for a moment, only to HEAL the creature in a CHARGE before sizzling out into nothing. βI know itβs not much, but your strength is needed more than mine. Good luck.β A farewell nod to him, the hybrid was off again to see what else she could do.
It was at this time that the loud explosion shook the earth, a swarm of blacephalon flooding the zone. βWe need to get out of here NOW!β Wolf looked to the poipole, wondering if she could used it to make their grand escape. βPoipole, escape us.β But just as she requested it, the ultra beast let out a shrill. Its crumbled with agony, body pulsed with a strange energy before it looked at her with dark red eyes. βYOU CANβT ESCAPE!!β βThatβs probably not good,β the player almost squeaked, eyes wide. Still, she was unable to understand what it said.
A blacephalon came up to her out of no where, causing the same prompted from before to appear. Much like before, Wolf did as it said. She placed a hand on its round head, eyes closed to share a memory with it. However, this memory wasnβt the one she wanted to share. It was a different one, one that she wasnβt really proud of. It flashed into the day when she order Ziryan to attack, the type null nearly killing for the poor pokemon. For at least, that was it looked like. And as such, a connection had failed.
βYOU ARE CORRUPTED!!β
βNo. Itβs not what it looks like,β the player shouted back, still unable to understand but fearing that there was a misunderstanding. Her ears flattened against her skull as she turned to flee. βWe need to go now. Ziryan, Izumi, and Poipole. Come on!β The sound of her voice snapped the poipole out of its strange behavior, pain filled its eyes. She waved at it to follow, concerned about it but unable to focus on that right now. Right now, they needed to run for the lives towards the next zone or face being KOed by an angry ultra beast.

Zone 1 > Moving to Zone 2Bee's memory popped like a soap bubble and he pulled back from the Blacephalon. "That, uh, that wasn't very relatable I guess," he said diplomatically. "You guys probably don't deal with a lot of middle management." The clown started to hiss, and Big Bee sprinted away from the front lines and back to the group. "Diplomatic efforts with the clowns have failed!" he shouted to Aero and Alkaid as he ran further into the tunnels.
Deeper within, battles were still raging. Health bars sang in frantic, crimson harmony, and Jam pushed his way forward into a cluster of injured trainers. The Groudon bowed its head, and the ground around Alicia Westfield and Shalin Nariya thrums like a power spot. Ancient energy shines upwards through the cracks in the tunnel floor, empowering Naganadel and Onix.
Jam spots a familiar face: Orion's boy Gil. Morpheus and orioncayge are already battling to subdue the massive Golisopod, and Jam fixes it with a furious glare that emanates unpleasant, crawling energy. Color seeps back into Gil's armor piece by piece, but the beast hasn't returned to its senses. It fights Morpheus with tooth and nail.
Bee's new friend, the Nihilego, drifts through the tunnel like a summer cloud. It stretches out long, searching tentacles and wraps them around Poipole and Orion's Type:Null. The tentacles harden, protecting its wards.
Guarding complete, Bee took a step back from the fighting and cautiously sent out Guzzlord. It looked at him with four luminous blue eyes. "Are you okay now buddy?" he asked.
Guzzlord turned away from Bee and shifted its gaze down, down through the rock and soil to fix on something deep below.

ββΏ.[/tangent] said Big Bee's Nihilego. The voice sent rippled through Bee's skin.
Its voice sounded far too much like words bubbling up from the deep. Bubbles of meaning burst in Big Bee's mind. This was Hearteater. The creature that awaited them far below.
[tangent=You are not my fused!]β¬ββ βββ βββ ββ¬ βββββ
![/tangent] said Big Bee's Nihilego, its voice now full of rising steam.
The jellyfish bell flashed in crimson and bright blue as it struggled with the voice in its head. Guzzlord reached out and grabbed onto Nihilego, holding it in its pincers.
[tangent=We do not feed you. This is my hunger. We will eat you.]"ββ β

β¬ββ. ββββ ββ ββ¬ ββββββ. ββ βββ°β° βββ β¬ββ."[/tangent]
A furious, protective aura emanated from Guzzlord. Its stomach growled furiously, like a dog huddled over a fresh bone.
"You okay buddy?" Bee asked, as Guzzlord trundled forwards towards Zone 2. He followed, watching the rocks ripple beneath Guzzlord and clad themselves on nearby Pokemon.
Guzzlord was hungry, and they were headed for the pit.

ZONE 1: HIBERNACULUM >>ESCAPING>> ZONE 2: THE MIST >>>>> ZONE 3: HEARTEATER
Her team was getting patched up at least. There was an unfortunate misunderstanding between Tikani and the Type: Null sadly. And the otherβ¦ she decided not to pay too much thought to Bergamot. They were going to butt heads again and again later, werenβt they? Not the time to think about that. As much as she needed healing still, she wanted to push onward. The part of her that yearned to be more screamed βfind them! Heal them! Make your team whole again!β
βHahβ¦ as if youβre able.β
Aliciaβs eyes widened, and she kneeled down, trying to cover the horror and panic racing across her expression. No no no! Not now! WHY NOW!? She couldnβt afford those accursed little doubts chiming in now!
βYouβve burnt yourself out. You didnβt stop to realize Fumar and Yggdril are going to fight back as well. So drunk on the glory of saving so many that youβve fallen prey to your own might. Now you canβt save the ones you actually came here for. Not that you could anyways. You see the signs...β
βYou really donβt have any thorns at all. Not when it mattersβ¦β
βShut upβ¦β the pinkette whimpered out in a whisper. Fortunately she seemed to be granted a reprieve. It let her wipe the tears sheβd noticed building in the corners of her eyes. Let her shake her head free of the cobwebs and get back into the game.
Oh how she was wrong about being prepared. Instead of forcing her deeper to find her friends, Hearteater had sent them, along with all the other reserves, directly to the Hibernaculum. Spotting them among the crowd was easy. She knew them like the back of her hand, she felt.
Rage and hate bloomed. Embers fell despite a lack of the Kindler class. She wanted to scream. She wanted to charge. To bring them back by any means necessary.
> Required Type Damage: Fire
She had no choice but to stop in her tracks immediately. She had no access to Fire. She hadnβt brought Rath because of the Three Pokemon Limit. She couldnβt do anything
βWhat a pathetic hero you make. All you can do is sit there and hope someone repays your kindness. But you know what itβs like. No one will. Youβll be forgotten again in the chaosβ¦β
βShut upβ¦β the girl behind the hero begged. Alicia could handle thisβ¦ but Helen couldnβt. It was getting to be too much. Her heart bled at her impotence.
There were explosions behind her. Alicia jolted to her feet and looked back. Blacephalon were swarming in. Werenβt they Fire typed? If she could break one of them free of Hearteater, perhaps she could establish a truce! She was moving before she even considered she might fail.
βYou canβt reach anyone like this.β
βShut upβ¦β
She had to try. Tikani cried out for her, the voice falling on deaf ears. If she could just reach one of them-
And a ball of flame fell into her path, detonating. She looked to the sourceβ¦ and found Fumarβs dead eyes just staring back at her. Her heart sank. That had been a warning shot. A wordless declaration that if she tried again she was going to be fried for real. How could she overcome thisβ¦?
She needed to stop Fumar and Yggdril. The Fire requirement meant she had to gain the aid of one of the Blacephalon. But Fumar was going to shell her with fire for trying. Thisβ¦ this was an impossible impasse. Each problem gated the answer to the other. No matter which way she went, she needed something she didnβt have!
An explosion from one of the nearby clown beasts forced the issue. She had to retreat and abandon the chance. There was no getting close enough for long enough on her own terms. There was going to be no salvation hereβ¦
β¦ It reminded her so much of the time Before. Before she had UNOVR to try and live out her fantasies.
An insistent vine wrapped around her wrist and yanked her along. Dragging her from her recollections. Further taking the choice out of her hands in the process. It was welcome though, she needed to get her head out of that mental spaceβ¦
βWhat were you thinking!?β Tikani screamed once she brought Alicia back. βOne of those beasts couldβve blown you up into pieces!β
βWe need Fire, and I didnβt bring anyβ¦β Alicia replied quietly. βI canβt just abandon Yggdril and Fumarβ¦ not after getting this closeβ¦β
βNotβ¦ Alone. Look.β Venex chimed, pointing. Alicia glanced overβ¦ and her eyes widened as a Kartana whipped in like a shuriken, delivering a pair of Night Slashes. The weight slowly crumbled away as Fumarβs bleached white body began to tar over with black once more. She hadnβt even so much as said a wordβ¦ but people were taking efforts to try and restore her own Pokemon as well. Justβ¦ just because they were there and needed as much help as any otherβ¦
She shed a few tears, this time of relief. But she needed to do something real quick for the sake of the people who dug deeper looking for their more advanced friends.
Hopefully everyone that went down to Zone 2 would see that in time and come back for the remaining friends that had been taken. And then the ground below her became a massive power spot for⦠some reason!? She looked around and spotted Big Bee and his Groudon. Her eyes widened in shock at that.
βTh-Thanks for the pick me up!β Alicia chimed, watching her friends. Sheβ¦ didnβt think she could afford to hit any more colors now. She had to save the rest of her strength to tear Hearteater a new oneβ¦
The more she watched, the more her heart leaped for joy. More attacks came in. Fumarβs color was fully restored. The Grookey everyone worked together to recover turned around and hit Yggdril, coloring them in a bit.
Putting the thought of her Hydrapple out for the moment, she charged like a bullet. One at a time. With others piling in to help every Pokemon, she couldβ¦ she could trust that someone would save Yggdrilβs remaining colors. So she had to be ready. She raced towards the recolored Fumar, weaving between the gouts of flame and wild swings.
βFumar! Wake up!β she cried, hopping towards the Coalossalβs back and scrambling up to his shoulder. The old titan roared and thrashed, forcing her to grip on to whatever she could reach. On instinct, she tapped into a bit of her changed abilities as a Specter, and her hand turned transparent.
She was between life and death in this raid. Thatβs what it meant to be a Specter, to her. She took a step over the veil, and that gave her new options. She reached her hand out, grasping Hearteaterβs threads of control directly. βCome back to meβ¦β she whispered, even as she heard the sounds of Yggdril attacking another pokemon. Orionβs Type: Null if she wasnβt mistakenβ¦?
βI need my titansβ¦β
Fumarβs eyes gleamed with heated light at last, and Alicia let out a cry as she pulled. The red mists puppeting them, tangible to her thanks to her class, tore and snapped in her grip as they fled the Coalossalβs body. Fumar groaned and dropped to one knee.
βUghβ¦ Aβ¦ Alicia? What happenedβ¦?β Fumar gasped out. βWhy is your body so coldβ¦?β
βItβs a long story. I need you up and at βem as soon as possible. Weβve got a monster to strike down. Tikani, can you catch him up on the important parts? Yggdril still needs help!β Alicia spoke quickly. Both addressed Pokemon nodded, and Alicia back flipped off of Fumarβs body in order to race towards the hydra.
βThank you so much! Iβll never be able to repay this!β She cried out to Morpheus, a pang of sympathy going through her eyes as she saw the sorry state Yggdril and others had put the Type: Null in. Then she raced to take over so that Yggdril couldnβt finish him off for good.
The syrpents hissed, striking like snakes. She jumped over the head of the first one. The second she pushed to the side, deflecting its strike. Where? Where was the core of Hearteaterβs control!? All of the heads were trailing red mist from their maws. Did that meanβ¦?
Alicia jumped again, βstandingβ on the core of the apple that housed the syrpents. Yggdril let out a roar, and all five heads rushed to strike her at once. But Alicia was planning on this. At the last second she jumped, letting them all slam their heads together. Ripping a trick out of a Decidueyeβs handbook, she formed spectral chains to tie them together. Phasing through like a ghost again, she sought out all of Hearteaterβs chains. She wasnβt going to let a single one of them continue to plague her friends!
βFight it, Yggdril!β She called. βListen to my voice! Remember our times together! COME BACK!β And the hero tore at the chains binding them.
βAck! Pthah!β βOh heavens what happened!?β βWHERE ARE WE!?β βALICIA!β βWHERE!? OH MY ARCEUS!β
She was never more happy to have her ears assaulted by a medley of voices. Releasing her bindings, she wrapped them up in her arms and cried tears of joy. But teary reunions could be properly celebrated later. βSuit up everyone! Weβve got a bat to stake! Weβre going to make it pay for tearing our chosen families apart!β
βSuit up with what?β Fumar asked as the rest of her Pokemon joined her and Yggdril. βTikani and Venex haveβ¦ interesting new garbβ¦ but how would you have made-β
He was promptly cut off as Alicia yanked out a spare set of armor, cracked it open, and chucked it at the Coalossal. Fumar, understandably, sputtered in surprise as the front piece his chest and the back piece clacked down beside him before snapping into place. The greaves that followed were tipped with blades of steel and crystal together, giving sweeps and spins a nasty additional bite to them.
Yggdril stared flabbergasted, unaware as Alicia wrapped them up in chain mail and hooked free hanging plates to that chain mail. And then stuffed brace-like false fangs into each of their mouths.
βNo time for questions!β Alicia chimed. βWeβre going to all stuff it to that bat. Make it hurt for all the hurt it caused usβ¦ Stake it through the heart like itβs a proper vampire even. It certainly acts like one!β
Trusting everyone else to have things up here and to be following shortly, Alicia took off. Her four Pokemon gasped and cried out for her, before charging off after the pinkette. Things were getting real.
ZONE 2: THE MIST
Aliciaβs blood chilled again as they delved deeper with all haste. Her eyes flicked about as she ran at top speed. Thisβ¦ this wicked chamber was chock full of Corruption and she could feel the darkness with in her roil eagerly at the presence of so much of it. Her eyes were swallowed in black. Ink spread through some of her veins. This place was both unsettling and, ironically enough, almost calmingβ¦
Had she already fallen so far
βLook out!β Tikani screamed, grabbing Alicia and yanking. The pinkette let out a shriek as she stumbled to catch herself, only to hear her Bayleef scream in turn. The Charge stalled again as fear and concern overrode anger and vengeance.
Tikaniβs vines had been hit by a splash of the wicked power in her attempt to spare Alicia the same fate, and it seeped in deep. Green foliage turned tarry as the starless sky. A black darker than any other, threads of endless voidβ¦
βTikaniβ¦!β Alicia gasped out, horrified. It was one thing when it was just her. It was her choice so of course she should face the consequences. But Tikaniβ¦ Tikani didnβt deserve thisβ¦
βIβll.. be fine! We push on!β the Bayleef declared, flashing a grin to reassure her trainer even as her skin crawled as she retracted her vines. There was going to be so much to unpack after thisβ¦
Nodding, Alicia turned and raced onward, noticing other Ultra Beasts and the fact they seemed to be dumping things down a pit. Offeringsβ¦? Maybe they could use something! βVenex! Grab something from that pile!β
βGrabβ¦ what?β the Naganadel asked.
βWhatever catches your eye first!β the answer came back quickly as she veered off towards another Ultra Beast. She didnβt know if they were going to help Hearteater once the players reached it, but if they were going toβ¦ if she could convince it to not fightβ¦!
She raced towards the Guzzlord, which roared in shock as she jumped onto and ran along its tentacle jaw. Near its terminus, she jumped on top of its head and sat herself down. It was time to see if she knew as much of their language as she thought she didβ¦
[tangent=βHushβ¦ Iβmβ¦ friendβ¦β]βββββ... β'β ... ββββββ
...β[/tangent] she began, her uncertainty slowing her words. But the shock of it all caused the dragon beast to still. [tangent=βFeelβ¦ my soulβ¦β]ββββ°... ββ¬ ββββ°...[/tangent]
Her hand phased through black scaled flesh. And she pushed a thought through the spectral bridge.
A room un/familiar. A morsel/girl glaring at us. A Naganadel/Venex lunging at us, attacking!?
Why attack your fellow Beast?/I failed you onceβ¦ ignored youβ¦

Why try to reach me?/We can be greater together.
What do you want from me?/Hope. Joining against a common foe. Youβve been starved. Help me fight your tormenter.
And after?/Weβll work something out then.
Iβll be free to leave later?/If you decide to go your own way.

We Stand As One.
Guzzlord roared and Alicia smiled, pointing towards the route to Zone 3. βLets go.β
The alien dragon began to lumber forward. Tikani, Fumar, and Yggdril joined up with it, flanking at either side. The three stared up at Alicia on her new perch in awe. And Venex returned, graspingβ¦ what seemed to be ancient tree sap? Alicia smiled, patting his head. βVenex? Guzzlord? Can you two help me send a message?β
βToβ¦ the Bright One?β Venex replied in question. Alicia nodded. βI thinkβ¦ yesβ¦β
βAlrightβ¦ here it goesβ¦ Venex, please correct my pronunciation if I get it wrongβ¦β Alicia mused. The dragon bee nodded.

Zone 2 > Escaping to Zone 1, Moving to Zone 2 Hurt. Everything hurt. How long have I been fighting? How long have we been in danger?
Hearteaters control over Gilgamesh the Golisopod was an insidious poison, injected by the nihelago that had taken him in the heat of combat and left the poor beetle in a constant state of fight or flight. Orion and his coffin were always just out of sight, barking orders, asking for help, constantly imperriled. So Gil fought, he fought and he fought till his chitin cracked and his lungs burned, till his very essence was drained of its color and he was left a mindless revenant with one thought on his mind.
Protect my family. Be a brave bug.
His arrival into the fight was an explosive one, a rush of monochromatic chitin heralded with a crash and a roiling battlecry that sounded like a million cicadas dying in a wildfire. His foes were numerous, his vision clouded to keep him from seeing who was truly before him as he slammed his big meaty claws like hammers, and turned his body into a battering ram thrashing at Jam, thrashing at the Poipole who were trying to help him.
His jaw opened, and he let out another thunderous scream. Boss...I'm scared... the beetle thought to itself. I don't know if I can keep this up... Fear roiled in his veins like a fever he just couldn't sweat out, so instead he turned that fright into fight just like his master had taught him.
He was scared, but that wasn't going to stop him, he was a bravebug.
...
Orion and Eddie's feet pounded the stone floor of the cavern in unison, years or collaborative schemeing, working together in a kitchen, and other chicanery had long since taught them how to work side by side. With their hearts and minds united to one cause they were practically two bodies sharing one mind, and lord have mercy on Hearteater because NEITHER of them were going to.
The telltale smell of corruptions foul stench caught Orion's nose, and when the group entered Orion motioned to the pool.
"This is that genuine oh fuck right here dude." His words dripped with a sense of venom. "The source of basically all of the plots conflict and just generally a real nasty time..." he elaborated, his hands clenched. "Just about every gnarly moment I've ever had this game has had this stuff involved one way or another."
"Gotcha..." Eddie breathed, instinctually clutching at Darby and Carver. "Steering clear and giving it a wide berth."
"Probably smart..." Orion agreed, with that little field trip out of the way the two continued deeper and deeper, this time stopping at a pool of what appeared to be...loot? That was odd...as the mist grew thicker Orion had anticipated to run into more of the captured pokemon, or the missing player not...this. Eddie, noticing his confusion thumped him on the shoulder.
"Wassup cuz?" His crimson brow arched like a question mark as he glanced around. "I was...thinking we'd find Gil down here." Orion replied, eyes dancing to the pool and then to his pal. "But...is he deeper or..."
"BOTH!" Orion practically jumped out of his skin as Poseidon emerged from the water bearing what appeared to be a clunky pair of iron boots in his teeth. "I FOUND YOUR MITHING BOOTH!" Both trainers stared at the Carvanha for a moment, before their gazes dropped to the fiery Iron boots that Orion was already clearly wearing. "Oh." A soft clang filled the air as the mon dropped them onto the floors. "I uh...thought that wath weird, theein double..."
"Hey, doin great bud." Orion reassured the mon. "Im sure Ed can use a fresh pair of boots yeah?" He nudged his cousin who stared at the boots for a moment, rubbing his chin.
"I'm sure I could do something with them..."
A thunderous screech echoed through the cavern, coming from on high, and Orion stopped.
"What the fuck was-" Eddie had begun to ask, but Orion was already running back up.
"GIL!" He howled, not even reading the message that Alicia Westfield had dropped in the chat.
"HEY CUZ WAIT!" Eddie yelped, but he'd already been left in the dust.
...
Orion hadn't been anticipating another wave, and he certainly had not anticipated whatever the fuck...this literal clownfiesta was. A horde of colorless mon and comical Ultrabeasts had joined the fray. Orion's first instinct was to reach out to one of the clowns, to offer it the same support that he'd offered Adze. His outstretched hand cupped a fond memory, the first time he'd ever managed to hit his cousin Alex with the historical DEEZ NUTZ line when they were young, the bellyaching laughter that ensued as the two rolled along the blacktop. One less enemy between him and Gil, he reasoned, only...the clown planted a large oversized floppy shoe in his face and sent him sprawling across the floor.
A grunt escaped his lips as he hit the hard surface and skipped like a stone, the breath leaving his body. He'd have laid there for a moment to catch his breath, but a massive muddy horse reared up and was looking to turn his head into paste, forcing the fighter to roll out of the way. The force of the stomp sent shards of stone flying that slashed at his form, some clinking off his armor but a few find purchase in the chinks in his protection and drawing blood. With a hiss he sucked in his breath and released a small gout of flame in retaliation, partly from anger and partly because he knew it would repigment the poor beast and lend it some strength to burn away whatever strings clung to it.
Morpheus charged into the fray, now understanding the assignment to a greater degree and got to work unbidden. Planting his feet he released another mighty wave of thunder that crashed against the Hyrdrapple and Lilliant, then sent twin X scissors at them, pruning away at the strings that bound their hearts and mind. The strain of the moves was beginning to catch up to him, like when he'd first met his master, in his first form that had been too many things smashed together, twisted and malformed. The pain was beginning to unravel him again, he could feel it in his bones.
"I'm..." the homunculus grunted. "NOT FUCKING DONE YET!"
A wall of tendrils surrounded it, cutting the relitory attacks of his would patients off and blunting their blows as a strange mon he'd never seen before came to his aid.
"MY NAME IS MORPHEUS!" The Hound howled, "AND IT IS FUCKING." He planted his feet and grit his teeth. "MORPHIN TIME!" Fire wreathed his body as he dove forward, honing in on the hydra and remembering the tales his master had told him. You burn away at beasts like that.
WHAM.
He landed the final color and rolled with the beastie, landing barely on his feet as he felt his energy fading. He was too far gone but...with the last of his might he barely managed to take some of the healing flames he'd just imparted onto the creature before him and channel it back into himself, keeping the lights on.
"I'm..." he hissed. " STILL NOT DONE!"
Orion, disengaging from the Mudsdale managed to find his target, the monochromatic beetle was beating as much ass as it could muster with each screech, its moves erratic and flustered, each swing with an incredible amount of power, but sloppy. He was scared, hurt, afraid, and Orion's heart faltered for a moment.
His failure had done this to his boy.
His decisions, his failure to adapt, his freezing, had done this to Gil.
His jaw set tight, his fists gripped his shield tighter as he donned his Irongrass Mino with his other hand, drapping the armored jacket around his form.
"GIIIIIILGAMEEEESH!" He howled, drawing the beetles attention. "I'M HERE BUDDY!"
SKREEEEEEEE
The beetle answered in a hellish warcry dashing for Orion. The fighter focused his gaze and dashed forward, leading with his shield arm as the enraged beasty brought down both meaty claws like hammers, THWAM THWAM. Each was blocked with the shield, but made Orion's teeth settle on edge as his bones threatened to buckle beneath the blows. It would be better to dodge them, it seemed, a mon of his size wasn't something he could just tango with, but it was time to dance anyways. He flit to the side, plucking a strand of grass from his coat and whipping it across the flank of his foe with a snapping CRACK as he brought the silver luster of his chiten back to life. The bug itself reered on him, bringing down another frantic series of frenzied blows that Orion scambled to doge out of the way of.
Something was wrong, Gil's colors should have been back by now, what was he missing?
He scanned the mon frantically, each swing threatening to crush him beneath their massive weight. It didn't help that he'd hardly seen the beetle since it'd evolved, somewhere between crab and bug he was pulling his hair out trying to figure out what was miss-
The black of it's eyes and claws.
The revelation hit Orion as the beast reared its claws up again to strike down upon him, but this time he was ready. Coiling his body up he lunged into the air and brought his skull straight into the bugs face, channeling all the hurt and despair he'd felt in his failure to protect his little body into the darkness that would return him to him.
THWAM.
The beetle staggered back, reeling both from the force of the blow AND the fact that he'd literally just had Hearteater headbutted out of him. Orion landed back on his feet and stood poised to continue the fight if need be, but watched as the light returned back to the mon's eyes, and a glimmer of recognition dawned on him.
"B-boss?" The beetle asked meekly. "GIL!" Orion howled, diving forward and hooking both arms around the bugs head. "YOU'RE BACK!" "I...where..." Gil's inky black eyes darted around. "What...how..."
"I...Can't explain right now buddy..." Orion managed between tears eyes as he nuzzled into the glistening chitin of the beetle. "But...I'm so proud of how brave you've been...we gotta get moving. Something down in the depths has been preying on this land and we need to beat his ass."
"I..." the beetle looked around once more, then back to Orion. "Got it." One arm scooped Orion up and placed him atop his shelly shoulders as he pointed the way to Laguna, Roxanne, and the Yacht.
"Let's regroup and head in deeper."

Zone 2 > MOVING TO Zone 1 The pit trickled away in front of Torino, swirling down like a crunching whirlpool and leading down to what was definitely the boss room. Torino blanched. She looked at her Pokemon to either side. Xurkitree, Nuvola the Swirlix, and Ciambella the Donphan. "We are ready!"
A Guzzlord stomped over to the pit edge and looked at her.
"Hello!" she called, waving to it. "We are here to free you!" she said, nodding fervently. "Soon all of the beasts will travel together outside!" A memory flowed between them. Torino frolicking in a sunny meadow. Wildflowers brushed at his knees, and the gorgeous sunlight overhead warmed her skin and soul.
Usually unseen parts of its body turned inside out and sparking items bounced down the sand. "Oh! This is where all the precious items go for after the raid!" she said, watching something golden slip beneath the sands.
Red mist licked up from inside the pit.
The other side of the hourglass was calling.
"We should take something nice!" Torino said, nodding to herself. There was always time to get a nice treat. Especially in a place like this. She picked up Swirlix with one hand and, holding onto Donphan with the other, leaned out over the pit. "I will catch the next thing!" she called.
And there it was, dropping from the sky like an untethered sun.
A gorgeous drop of sky fire, falling end-over-end straight into Nuvola.
The Swirlix opened its mouth and the flaming gem dropped straight into it.
"Ah! Spit it out! No no no!"

ZONE ONE > ESCAPE TO ZONE 2 Movement drew the eyes of all, everywhere, everything all at once. Arthur pulled his injured Granbull away from where the most concentrated fights were happening, but it was not a losing one; color was gradually being restored to all of the Pokemon in the Hibernaculum, and there were many tearful reunions, quick embraces before returning to the scene and paying it back many times over.
It seemed like good news compounded with good news when the notification popped up that all of the native Pokemon of Ostellia had been rescued (ah, that made sense why the Pokemon back there were ones he didn't remember ever seeing elsewhere), but that streak was not going to last forever, because in the distance an explosion rang out, followed by yelling and water and when the dust settled, Ultra Beasts.
(Oh, and there were also more colorless Pokemon appearing out of the woodwork, so that was grand).
An uncanny clown, thin like the stuff of nightmares, approached him and his Pokemon with a skip in its step. It outstretched its hand, as if taunting him to take it, and Arthur remembered how the others tried to bond with the Ultra Beasts to slow them down, so he took it with the mist--
βShit!β
Arthur managed to get away from the Blacephalon's hand by dispersing his hand's shape into red smoke. Even if they both knew how the memory was going to end, he didn't want to give it an idea that it was already planning to do. The Ultra Beast had no mouth, but it had eyes, as it turned out, and it spun around, and the eyes looked like they were grinning.
Another player nearby managed to distract the clown, shifting its attention; it gave Arthur a chance to run, carrying Buru as he almost tripped over rock and debris.
Moving further in, he saw that more and more Pokemon were getting their colors back. It wouldn't be long before they were likely to be forced deeper in, but before that, he saw a startlingly familiar face. Is that...βGranmarg?β he didn't have a strong connection to the Pokemon, only having ridden him once when Josh was showing him the ropes, but that was enough for him to want to help out, especially with the blond kid nowhere in sight. He brought out his own Mudsdale, who also quickly noticed the doppelgΓ€nger. <Woah, he looks just like me! Sort of!>
Well, that was because its brown pelt was still missing. βBanko, I need you to use High Horsepower on him.β he then noted that nearby, there was another Pokemon that could also use its brown feathers back. βAnd on that Dodrio as well.β
<Got it!> and the horse was keen in noting that his trainer didn't say to hold back, but he took care of his movements, knowing that this was not the enemy that they were supposed to be fighting all out for. Cloaking himself in an orange aura, he scratched the dirt with one of his hooves before rushing in with his head lowered. The other Mudsdale seemed to respond in kind, but it had an air of honor even in its mindless state. It met Banko head on; the clash sending energy sparks flying before Granmarg let out a cry as his colors returned. With that, he stopped being hostile, slumping over.
Hitting the Dodrio was a harder case, as it was constantly dodging trying to look for someone. The Mudsdale needed to run the bird into a corner full of players and their other Pokemon to body slam it to bringing its color back. Once that was done, he went back to Arthur for further instructions.
Meanwhile, the scuffed Granbull was suddenly approached by a mudfish with beady little eyes. Without warning, it opened its mouth and created a biiiig bubble, which floated towards the dog and then unceremoniously popped in her face. <GAH!!!>
βWhat happened?!β
The Mudkip was already happily hopping off.
<I...I feel horribly icky!> she yelled while flicking her arms. <And what's worse is that for some reason I feel better! What kind of heal is this?!>
Arthur didn't really know how to respond, because whatever did heal her was much more effective than what Anta could have done, based on how she was back to full HP. It was honestly impressive, if it weren't for the slimy liquid on her.
With that, it seemed like a good idea to move deeper in. They were losing time, and they still have yet to see the Hearteater. He looked around to see if anyone needed heals and saw that there was a Pokemon (he didn't know what it was) that was in super low health. He told Anta to use Aqua Ring mostly on them, but also save a little bit for herself so that she wouldn't take too much damage. The Mantyke nodded once before flying towards the mysterious Pokemon - using her flippers, she directed small glowing bubbles that formed into three glowing arounds surrounding the Pokemon and healing them. She also gave one ring for herself as kind of a top-up.
Once she flew back to her trainer, he and his party moved down to the second Zone (also to avoid the clowns if they explode). They were getting closer to the pool of mist, Arthur could feel it deep down, and it made him more anxious, made him more aware of what was missing. As they moved further, they passed by what was clearly a pile of corruption, and it eyed them and everyone that passed with something indescribable, or perhaps something people didn't want to name.
There was a thick haze here, and when they get out of it, Arthur checked on his Pokemon to see if they were alright. For some reason, Buru complained that her fur felt itchy, but it didn't seem to be a big cause of concern.
Eventually, they reached the end, where Arthur gave up his heart for a curse. There were way more things here compared to before; for some reason the Ultra Beasts were tossing things in there, not really checking if they actually made their way down. The trainer noted that one of them - one that he recognized because Shalin had one - was just standing there, as if in a daze. Was this perhaps a chance--
The Buzzwole flew off, as if Arthur wasn't even there. He grimaced and clenched his hand into a fist, feeling fingers dig into skin.

HIBERNACULUM > MOVING TO ZONE 2
With Reynir out of control, Shalin had little choice but to defend herself against the hooved onslaught to come. She badly wanted to save her Liepard for Hearteater, but Rumble was not fast enough to intercept the attack. Quickly withdrawing him for Balan, the Liepard stood in front of Shalin. "No, fight it! You're stronger than it is!"
The Galarian equine stayed in a reared position, his hind legs buckling as he whinnied loudly. At the sight of a Liepard ready to pounce, the psychic-type calmed down and stopped, slowly clopping toward his trainer. "Where... where am I?" the Ponyta spoke for the first time.
"Reynir!!" Shalin squealed, unsteadily getting to her feet before embracing her horse. "You fought Hearteater off!" Taking the heartwarming moment to check the raid log, the girl had noticed Nero and Morpheus had found her Pheromosa. "There's little time! We've got to catch up to the others!"
There was little catching up to do, as the colorless bug-type was nearby, largely subdued by her allies' actions. Approaching the giant bug on foot, Shalin touched his still wing. "We may not have won the Asper Cup, Nymris. But we conquered Midas Corp," she cheered on the struggling Ultra Beast, figuring he, too, was wrestling mentally with the master of the mist below. "And we're going to conquer Hearteater. We may be misfits, but that's okay! There's room for misfits like us in this world!"
What little color there was in the spindly insect returned to her. As soon as he was back to his normal self, Nymris' camouflaged saddle re-appeared on his wing. [tangent="Get on, and steel yourself for the fastest buzzing you've ever seen. My only partner is you."]"βββ ββ, βββ

Though she couldn't understand Nymris' words, the time she spent learning how he moved, fought, and felt let her understand the gist of what he was trying to communicate. With her mastery of the Beta Tester class, she bent the rules of physics to sit on the Pheromosa's wing. With a piercing buzz, the duo sprinted off to ZONE 2, Shalin's low-resolution model flickering back and forth among several positions and giving the illusion that there were multiples of her. On the way there, her trailing Liepard lunged toward Torino 's Hisuian Lilligant with a passing PLAY ROUGH attack. Though his intent was to merely graze the fighting-type with a single nail, his trajectory tragically caught them with two of his full claws: one front and one rear.

ZONE 1 > ESCAPING TO ZONE 2
Josh turned around with the Nihilego on top of him, giving the illusion that he was in control. After Aero scolded him, the Skeledirge's TORCH SONG Disrupting the poison-type long enough to get it off the scout's head, the neurotoxins within Josh's mind had diluted to the point where he had control of his own consciousness again. "Thanks, Aero," he exhaled, Mirage forcibly bonking him into the air and catching him.
"Kid, did you forget? That coot's Nihilego is in the Everworld, not here!" Mirage verbally lashed out at him. "Now grab onto something so you don't fall! We have to get to the core, and we're running out of time!"
Not arguing with the wise but brash bug, Josh grabbed Mirage's reins. As soon as he felt tension from his trainer holding them, the wildly fast insect zipped toward AREA 2, only to see Granmarg flailing about madly as Bergamot Gristleborg and Wolf were restoring his color. "Mirage, Granmarg's in pain," Josh pointed toward the ground-type. "I need to ease it. And if it's anything like what I've seen so far down here, only I can do it." With only a moderate tug on the flying PokΓ©mon's reins, the Ninjask made a sudden stop, nearly sending Josh flying over his head.
Shaking from the g-forces the maniacally fast insect put on him, Josh dismounted and cuddled the ground-type's face. "It'll all be okay," he gave one of his first partners a gentle rub. "You'll be safe. It's almost over. Once we get out of this cramped cave, the desert will be yours to roam and run."
With a loud neigh, the Mudsdale's blank eyes returned to normal, snapping out of his trance. "It's been... far too long, Josh," the noble steed spoke for the first time in weeks. "But we must press onward. Hearteater's pulse beats strong. It is not my desire to be a prisoner forever. We must fight. For if we don't, Hearteater's lair will be our eternal home."
With speed being of the essence, Josh climbed back aboard the super-speedy bug. "Then onward!" Josh pointed toward the mist, zipping toward the part of the dungeon he had been deepest in last time. There stood Alicia Westfield .
"I'm sorry it took so long to catch up to you," Josh apologized, seated on Mirage's back and speaking over his buzzing noise. "Have you completed your final prep yet?" As he asked, he went into the menu and checked on his PokΓ©mon. They were mostly okay, with exception of one. He had zipped through the Corruption Chamber so quickly that he had failed to notice what it had done to Twilight. She now was not only Dark-type. She was a combination of Dark-type and what Josh understood to be non-elemental. Her model in the menu was enveloped in red mist, a visual indicator of her Corruption.
"Ummm... this is a p-p-p-problem," Josh stammered as he showed his friend what his newest powerhouse PokΓ©mon looked like. "I was relying on her for this battle, and now..."

ZONE TWO MOVING TO ZONE THREE It was familiar, descending down into these same tunnels. Before, she had been rushing through this chamber, eager to find Hearteater itself and what laid beyond. But now, from a different perspective in the body of an Ultra Beast, everything seemed different.
The corruption room was intense, this insidious horror, that corrupted and distorted what it meant to exist, and yet somehow, it was the lesser of two evils right now. She and her Celesteela pushed through, only for more words to spill through her new friends mouth.
It was horrific, a beast confident in its own power, believing it to be unstoppable.
After a lifetime of abusing Ostelia for its own gains, no wonder it became so gluttonous and prideful. But they had never seen the full might of the Dreamers come to bear. Of the bond they had with their Pokemon. True Strength.
Ruby would turn back to speak, twisting her long neck around to glance back at the Celesteela. It continued to struggle to move under its own control, the intense presence of the Hearteater so dominating. And yet, she finally heard words whisper from it. [tangent="To be of the new, One of the dreamers chosen, That is a blessing."]"ββ ββ ββ βββ βββ, βββ ββ βββ β

β°βββ β
βββββ. βββββ ββ βββ°βββββ

Ruby would smile softly, seeing them admirably fight, as she led them further down into the misty haze. Solgaleo awaited, Sarah awaited. There would be no time to delay.
And yet, as they traveled, Ruby once again noticed more Ultra Beasts from above, dropping loot down from above. Even now, they were gathering things for the Hearteater to consume. She'd turn to glance at her Celesteela, smiling. "We shall go down in a moment. Steel yourself. I'm going to try and convince one to help."
The Celesteela nodded, and Ruby suddenly took off like a Rocket. Her thruster arms carrying her up and over, moving up towards one of the Celesteela up above. "We are more alike than we seem. The Dreamers do not come from this world," She'd whisper quietly, reaching one of her arms over to try and touch them. "And yet, it is home. We should fight for it-"
Ruby blinks, the memory coming back shocks both her and the Celesteela across from her. It didn't seem to understand, no emotion on her face, only pacing back slowly away as if confused, and put off by the strange thoughts. And Ruby... hadn't thought about the real world in months. It hadn't even crossed her mind.
Was she forgetting? Or was she just adjusting to her new situation?
Regardless, the shock knocked her straight out of her transformation, looking just as she always did. A normal, teenage girl with pink hair. Only, she could no longer float with rocket powered arms. She began to fall, right into the pit along with all the loot raining down around her. In a panic, she clutched her hands out for anything to grab, wrapping her fingers around a strange mysterious Key, but that didn't help her now.
She closed her eyes, attempting to focus on summoning back her avian wings, only to find herself slamming into something. Her Celesteela had flown upwards to catch her, landing on their chest. She grabbed onto their torso with as much force as she can, glancing upwards. "I tried I- They did not understand."
The Celesteela did not respond, but it did continue to smile.
Looking around, Ruby watched everyone rushing their way down here, after restoring more and more of their Pokemon. And she immediately knew what to do. She'd stretch out her arm, pointing down into the pit, and the Celesteela understood. The two of them suddenly dropped down, descending down into the belly of the beast as they passed through the neck of the hourglass.
They'd be ready. Together. No matter what came.
"Sarah! Solgaleo! We're coming, hold on!"

Zone One Escaping to Zone Two Moving to Zone Three Sheldon was still mindless, his teeth gnawing and limbs slashing away as best as he could, squashed under the weight of the massive Onix pressing them down.
"What are we doing?!" Hoppy panicked as they cried out, trying to leap over to their side as Laguna held them close.
"Woah, woah! He's not himself, he needs-" Laguna began, only for a Kabutops to swiftly come over and spray sand at them. Swiftly, color returned to their shell, and Hoppy watched in amazement as they seemed to calm down, face planting into the cave ground below. Immediately, the trainer and all of her Pokemon moved to surround the Squirtle, with Froakie immediately jumping out of her arms to land at their side.
"Sheldon!" "Sheldon, you idiot! Wake up!"
"Ugh-" It took a few moments, the Squirtle pulling his limbs back into his shell and back out as if testing that his body still worked before he stood up again.
"You scared me!" Laguna immediately moved to pick both Sheldon and Hoppy up in her arms, as well as Glacia, spinning the three of them around as a wide smile spread across her lips. "I didn't know if I would get to see any of you again! I was terrified, I-"
"Hey, what's with the waterworks?" Sheldon finally spoke, the Squirtle giving that signature cocky smirk of his. "I knew we'd be fine-"
Suddenly, a frog leg smacked him across the face. "No you didn't, you asshole! We were prepared to die!"
"Well excuuuuse me, for wanting to be confident in the face of danger! I- Laguna?"
She was just, laughing. The casual bickering, the rivalry returned once again. Her heart was soaring, it felt like such a blessing to finally have all her friends back. "Marina is going to have some words with you two! She's been beating herself up ever since you both took her place!"
"Momma," Glacia suddenly spoke, nodding their head, which was in turn their whole body. "We got stuff to do." Her eyes were hyper focused on the combat still around them, the Blacephalon's threatening everyone, the remaining colorless Pokemon at the time. She was right, this was not the time to have a long extended chat. And yet, the chat had raised her spirits so high.
They could do this. They all could.
"Alright then! Let's get to work!" She'd let go, and her Pokemon immediately dropped to the floor.
Glacia leaped out with a supernatural jump, landing on the ground and doing a dramatic shout. Sheldon landed, swiftly twisting into his shell and sliding forwards as Hoppy perched right atop, moving forwards. Roxanne herself was smiling, only to immediately let out loud impressive roar, following behind the smaller Pokemon and leading them forth.
Mr. Business, for some reason, was muttering about all the sand that had gotten on his suit, and brushing himself off with a small brush that he somehow just had in his briefcase. "Business! Find the people that need healing! We're going to fight a threat bigger than we ever have before, get everyone up and fighting!"
"Not even a moment to dust myself off?" He responded with, clearly teasing based on the smirk on his face. He swiftly set off, his feet gliding across the ground, leaving snowflakes in his wake as he searched about. A multitude of Icy Winds suddenly spread about the cave, seemingly being created by Mr. Business mimicking Laguna's own motions with her wand, with his brush.
Morpheus 's Snubbul would find its wounds soothed over with the cool are, almost like cryotherapy. From there, he'd skate past orioncayge , who'd also recieve a cool healing blast of air, that and Morpheus as well. To no relation to the former Morpheus .
"Dare I say, I think tensions are quite hot." Mr. Business would begin, chuckling quietly. "I say, everyone should cool off for a section. You would think, that somewhere there should be a water cooler! Poor management." More cold winds would blow, one washing against the speedy Kartana of Bergamot Gristleborg's, another over Nero's kind Kabutops who had restored his friend earlier.
A cold wind would also wash over Tikani, Alicia Westfield's Bayleef, bolstering their strength!
And then one for himself. Such hard work deserved a break!
Before Laguna could fully escape the first zone, her eyes locked straight into one of the eyes of the Blacephalon. It seemed like everyone was trying their hardest to convince them to stop, she would be a fool if she didn't try herself. "Keep going!" She'd shout to her team, with Mr. Business catching up to them.
She'd leap up over towards the nearest Blacephalon, placing a hand right over one of their arms as a memory overtook her.
She blinked, looking up at the Blacephalon who simply seemed offended at her touch, brushing her off to go and dance and cause chaos elsewhere. "Guess... he didn't like mimes."
She swiftly turned on her heels, escaping the Hibernaculum and entering into the Mist.
Down here, things were different. The rampant chaos of the fights above had simmered as people were preparing to seemingly dive down to fight the Hearteater. But first, they had to pass through the Corruption Chamber. She'd keep a close eye on all her Pokemon, ushering them through. "Come on, we're almost there, we don't have a choice."
Laguna went first, proving that it was safe, and Glacia practically leaped through as fast as she could. The rest followed each other, occasionally smacking away a piece of the lingering corruption that got too close. Sheldon, however, still felt very weak from just being restored. He didn't even notice, and neither did anyone else, when a small glob of corruption landed on his leg, and crawled into his Shell.
Once on the otherside, Laguna was in awe, seeing the pit open up before them and more Ultra Beasts around dropping what seemed to be valuable loot and old artifacts. Many she recognized, others she didn't. Biting her lip, debating on how much time they had, she spoke up. "You 5! Try and grab something before it falls, maybe we can use it against the Hearteater. I'm uh- attempting to befriend another one."
"Did the last one go well?" Spoke Mr. Business.
"No, he hated Mimes."
Mr. Business was immediately offended, scoffing in shock before helping Roxanne drag an Aircraft Propellor up from the pit before it could sink.
Swiftly moving towards a Guzzlord, the intimidating gluttonous presence, she once again reach out. "Hey! Hey, look at me! Why are you tossing out your food? You should be eating!"
The Guzzlord simply growled, a large arm swinging at her and knocking her aside. It seemed he didn't like the implications her memory was giving them. Or perhaps it was just far too stubborn to listen to her. Frowning, and hoping someone else could get through to them when she could not, she'd swiftly slide back over to her crew.
"How we doing?" Laguna spoke, twirling her wand in her hands, cloak flowing up as the winds swirled.
"We found a mechanical thing!" Glacia shouted, pointing proudly at the Aircraft Propellor.
"I- I don't feel so good." Sheldon suddenly spoke, and every eye drew to them. Their shell felt... gross. Like it wasn't as solid as before. Even from a distance, Laguna could see it slightly mishappen.
"Do you need to go back into the ball? To rest?"
"No!" Sheldon suddenly shouted in response, glaring upwards at everyone, and then Hoppy who was looking concerned at them. "I already made it here! I already struggled! And now we're going to beat up whatever is down there, together!"
"If that is the case, then I suggest everyone climb aboard." Roxanne spoke, and Laguna couldn't argue anymore as everyone climbed right atop them, gripping onto the ropes that still remained wrapped around her stones.
"Alright," Laguna nodded, swiftly leaping up as well and gripping on tightly. "We're doing this all, together."
"Like a sports team?" Replied Sheldon. "Perhaps soldiers?" Said Hoppy "Perhaps a well organized business?" Spoke Mr. Business, clearly just having fun.
"No, more than all of that. Like-"
"Like a family?"
"Yeah... Like a family. Let's go! We got a giant, evil bat to punch!"

ZONE 2 > MOVING TO ZONE 3 God damnit Orion.
That was so totally like him, to just run off like that. Admittedly based on the pickle bucket smoke breaks he was really bent up about this Gilgamesh pokemon being MIA, but like, Orion was always broken up about one thing or another in this game. Tapping his foot, Eddie turned his gaze to examine the pool a little more than not at all, the swirling shiny bits and bobs that seemed to be going...somewhere or another. It was unnerving, before at the surface he'd managed to overcome his own inadequacies by helping with the rescue effort but now...now it felt like he was just dead weight mucking about somewhere he ought not to be. He was new, after all, and this felt very much like trying to drag a fresh toon through the Lich King raid in WoW. Sure, it was "possible" but everyone involved was going to be pissy about it and you were definitely going to be owing some hella favors.
It stung.
Everyone else from the pre raid party had been having a killer time, popping off and doing something cool with their mon, but he hardly knew the actual mechanics of fighting, the meta of the game, or even what sort of trainer he wanted to be. Everyone else made it look so easy, so fun, and he...
Well he wasn't quite so sure.
But there was no point in moping over it, he would just need to make do with some of his Cayge courage and figure something out. He'd seen a couple people trying to commune with these ultrabeasts, hell Orion had one of those big ass muscle bugs, maybe he could befriend one of them and have another sick ass helper bug to help save the day. He could see it now, charging into the belly of the beast barking orders all dramatically like Orion was likely doing up top right now. A smirk spread across his lips.
This was going to be a piece of cake!
A deep breath would fill his lungs and he strode up to the one of the beastly beefcakes, arm outstretched. He'd seen some of the tooltips, watched it happen, this was doable. He mustered up a memory, from way back in the day during his brief career playing highschool football...
β
He'd never been athletic like other members of the family, he was short like mom, and inherited his fathers ability to pack away the pounds onto his frame. Short and chubby was not good for most sports, in basketball he was always picked for the shirts team, and last unless by some miracle Alex or Rion had managed to be "team captain". In track he wasn't burning down any records at all, and he was most certainly dragging the team down with cross country. But football? The coach took one look at him and had placed him as a center. His low center of gravity and bulk made for being a great wall, and with a bit of training he'd learned to stance the fuck up and crash into motherfuckers with the best of them. Today was his first time hitting the gym outside of practice, the first time he felt excited to work out. Hovering above and behind him was Orion, all grins as his hand tapped the bar before him lightly.
"Light weight baby!" His cousin cheered. With a grunt Eddie placed both hands on the bar and pushed up, lifting the weight from its rest and letting it tense and push on his muscles. Gritting his teeth he sucked in a breath and let the weight lower to his chest, bouncing on the jiggly fat that had accumlated around his pectorals. With an exhale he grunted out a word.
"One." "Attaboy!" Orion cheered. Again he lowered the bar to his chest, and raised it. "Two."
Again and again he repeated the process, his arms slow and shaky, but resolute. By rep five he was starting to feel the burn, rep seven had him questioning his life decisions, and by nine he was unsure if he dropped the weight to his chest if he'd even be able to get it back up again.
"One more." Orion's hands hovered slightly beneath the bar, a safety net for any failure, a reassurance that Eddie wasn't going to pin himself to the bench if he fucked up. "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY."
"LIGHT." Eddie grunted, dropping the bar to his chest."WEIGHT." His arms struggled to raise the bar, his feet straining against the ground and his body contorting as if by transmuting himself into a pretzel he would find an ounce more strength to finish out the set. "BAYBEE!" Locking his arms out, he slammed the weight back onto the catch and sprung to his feet, arm turned to Orion for a highfive. ---
THWAP.
Apparently the buzzswole was not amused by his weightlifting, and had instead opted to sock him in the jaw and send him flying, he bounced off the stone, and over the edge into the pit below, deeper into the belly of the beast.
Whoops.

ZONE 2 > ESCAPE TO ZONE 1 He'd come through twisting tunnels, down spiraling slopes, through the chamber which crawled and sang in the same key as the Bad Book he'd pulled from the Nexus. Now he was here. Almost at the ending: just not his ending.
He stepped in the bloodred sands and skipped back, unsettled, eying the pit with trepidation. A hole, like the pupil of a great eye filled with mist. Its warning message, translated by the UI, hung in his vision like a spider from a thread.
Una vez que lo cruzas, no puedes regresar.
Once you cross it, you can not return.
Respiro peeked over the edge, red fog lapping at his bare toes, treasures rolling around and around the great-funnel shape in a spiral towards its heart. Wondering.
Was Dodrio down there? How could that be? Could it be already lost, drained, finished?
His stomach dropped. Or could it already be in the Everworld?
In desperation, he typed in the Global Chat, using its Spanish name in the vague hope that someone might recognize it.
Answers he could not comprehend flooded in, some relevant, some not. A thumbs-up react caught his attention and he clicked the player tag, finding [Zona 1] listed under their location.
So it was true!
There was no time to waste. His heart beat three times as fast (Dodrio has three hearts) and his breaths came quick and stacatto (and three sets of lungs) and he ran back, back, all the way back, to the place where pale titans quaked and fell to their knees as trainers all around rejoiced.
He saw it: three heads, flowering with new growth. It stumbled through the tunnel, searching, steaming red mist from every orifice as the last of Hearteater was purged from its body. As Respiro approached, his Gardener trait activated, and the triple bird's tan feathers grew thick with moss and budding things.
But he was not alone. Like fateful lovers drawn to one another across the dance floor, a Blacephalon was slithering towards Dodrio at the same time. Its eyes pulsed like a warning timer, Ferris-wheel lights strobing on its sphere-shaped head.
Respiro pushed it away roughly. Neon lights flashed in his eyes and he was taken away to a memory--
[tangent=Respiro folded up the rainbow, color by color, and put it in his pocket. The world was a little dimmer for it, and the bird-man a little bolder. He dug deeper, finding the briefcase. Money in the garden! How fortuitous!
He took it in both hands and held it above his head like a hat, ready to trot on. He looked around for his PokΓ©mon, but saw none.
ΒΏ
Where was Dodrio?]The bomb went off, and he saw stars.[/tangent]
Ho sento, Respiro thought despondently, and perhaps his lips shaped it too, barely audible. He wrapped his arms around Dodrio, as if to protect it.
To his surprise, the flying-type's heads moved. It was shielding him-- healing him, painting away the firework burns and replacing them with smooth baby-skin.
<Humans are all the same. Except you. You've always been different.>
Respiro didn't know what Dodrio said: he just hugged it, and climbed on its back. It was time to return. Not to the pit, not to the boss: but to the surface, where light and color were abundant, where he could choose the battles that he fought, and those others would fight for him.
He did not know whether he would find his way out of here. Not before Blacephalon swarmed him, not before the other players cornered the Hearteater and made it pay the price of justice. That was not Respiro's ending. That was not Respiro's game.
His game was out there.
