HARBOR ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO ZONE 1 > ZONE 2 His faraway feet had had led him to the Harbor Entrance. Sandals splashed in pools salty as tears as he read out loud from the Forbidden Book, blacktongue, sounding out foreign syllables that resonated like a dentist's drill in his teeth and wreathed his Vivillon in dark miasma.
<You kept the ledger? After what you did? After Dodrio?> called the blue butterfly as it swooped over the field, delivering bursts of Poisonpowder and aura-charged Supersonic to the colorless forms below. Respiro was not listening: nor would he have understood. There was no such thing as fault in the world. Only fortune, only fate.
He saw Josh Devlin disappear into the jellyfish's embrace.
"!!"
Aero was next, swallowed up by squirming tentacles.
He was running, splashing, vaulting over saltwater pools and slate-black stone. His heart beat fast for the boy no older than himself (a blonde Miquel!) and the girl who could have been one of his sisters as he scrambled and leapt, straining on his tiptoes to save them.
Let them go!
Respiro pried at the tendrils, trying to extract the yellow-haired boy who hugged the beast like a lost mother, heedless of the danger. Neurotoxin numbed his fingers, but he didn't let go. From the sleeves of his jacket, leafy green foliage snaked its way up the backs of his hands, seeking to protect his skin from the stinging poison.
Respiro sent a memory.
[tangent=Doduo stood triumphantly, twelve feet above Respiro's head. They were in the Ruptured Lands, and the two-headed bird was perched on one of the floating islands just out of reach. Respiro's Treecko dangled from one of its beaks, unconscious.
<What's wrong? No more Pokemon? If you want me to let him go, you'd better take me on yourself,> taunted the flying type, speaking from the empty mouth. <Humans are always too afraid to fight their own battles.>
Respiro's fists clenched. It was early in the game: he had no weapon, he had no items. He had not even unlocked Fighter. He might not understand the Doduo: but as it said, he was helpless. He could not win Treecko back.
He could not make Doduo give Treecko back. Only Doduo could decide.
Respiro cleared his throat, then cleared it again. His little-used voice was raspy, half-inaudible, filled with dust and wind. ]"Please."[/tangent]
Then he, too, disappeared into the creature's slimy grasp.
Music filtered back into his consciousness. His whole body stung. He dropped out of the Nihilego's loosening grasp, sliding free like a dead fish and falling with a splash into a shallow tidepool.
The singing was louder out here.
Respiro raised his head to see Aero's Skeledirge, Hyper Voice booming through the cavern. Flames burned bright on its tiny bird companion like a candle in the dark, giving him hope. He could go on. He could still move. He could still breathe.
He could still run: and run he would, into the spiraling paths of Hibernaculum and beyond, for once he had been called Rook the Quick, and he was Quick to forget his sorrow.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO ZONE ONE
By the time Arthur returned to the Harbor, there were definitely less Pokemon here compared to early, but there were still many more that needed help, partially colored but still unable to move. He withdrew Banko by the time he got back to the puddles and pools, seeing that the tooltips remaining were moves that only his other Pokemon could hit. Reaching for one of his Poke Balls, he let out his Mantyke, who let out an eager cry before looking rather surprised at the scenery before her: after all, this wasn't her first time here, except it was definitely not as terrifying as it was before since there were many more players and much less colorless Pokemon.
âThis time we can do something.â he said to her before pointing at three Pokemon: a flounder, an anchor (that was a Pokemon?), and an otter. âUse Wide Guard, encase them briefly.â
The Mantyke bubbled happily before raising her flippers. The target Pokemon were then slowly covered in shimmering hexagons, as if wrapped in a cocoon. Once they were fully encased, the shield remained for a few seconds before dispersing into tiny white lights - brown was restored to the three Pokemon, and two of them immediately started moving around and dove into the pools, supposedly making their way out like the others.
Arthur nodded once, satisfied. âGood job, Anta. Heal yourself with Aqua Ring; there's still more where those came from.â he remembered, after all, that there were plenty of more Pokemon going down, and he also remembered Sarah Lee's messages about their encounter much deeper in the dungeon. They needed to keep their health up, or else they couldn't help anyone.
The Mantyke let out a soft cry as she surrounded herself with water droplets. Those droplets then formed three rings, surrounding her body before making her body glow ever so slightly. The rings were then scattered, becoming a part of the cavern. Anta let out a few bubbles of pride as that was her first attempt with the move.
More trainers were working on the colorless Pokemon, but the free pass was over - he suddenly heard shouts from his left, and out from an unknown tunnel came out one of the Ultra Beasts he remembered seeing recently, but hadn't fought yet. It floated eerily, like the animal it was based out, and there was more than one roaming around with its round tentacles, reaching out for any players that get too close. Surprisingly, not everyone turned tail and ran; many tried to commune with the Ultra Beast, perhaps because so many of them were roaming Ostellia for quite some time. One of them, to his surprise, was Josh Devlin (he knew that he was there because of his loud Ninjask) - âWhat the hell is he doing?â
His mind raced: should he let out Buru here to try to attack the jellyfish? But what if he hurt Josh in the process? Should he use the mist, would he be able to startle it? His right hand started to morph and stretch, ready to expand if needed, while some of the excess smoke was trailing into the air, earning a few glances from nearby trainers. Thankfully, [tangent=Aero ]another player he didn't recognize[/tangent] jumped onto it first, and before things could go out of control, one of her Pokemon managed to bat the jellyfish out of the way and even evolve into a...crocodile? A fire crocodile? That was a Pokemon Arthur didn't know existed at all (but hey, good for that trainer).
Also he gave a likely unseen thumbs up at the girl yelling at Josh, even if he had no idea what he was talking about, because he felt like Josh was always doing something reckless and insane.
(He also hoped that the [tangent=Respiro ]other kid[/tangent] who tried to help was also okay -- was it okay to have so many kids running around in this perilous dungeon?!)
Anyway, that was only one jellyfish. More were coming out of the tunnels, and one of them even made his way towards Arthur. Anta moved in front of him and was about to shoot a Water Pulse, but the trainer placed his hand on her back. âHold on.â
<oOoOoo?>
He gestured her to move away as one of the Ultra Beast's tentacles gingerly reached out to him, but instead of letting it touch his skin, he used his mist hand to grab it instead. Immediately there was a jolt between them - a memory of arrogance and its price - and the jellyfish screeches, as if it touched fire, before erratically floating away, perhaps to find easier prey. Arthur let out a small huff, seeing that the others were able to deal with their own jellyfish demons.
âLet's go.â he raised a hand before moving to the direction of where the other trainers went earlier, to move down, down into the belly of the beast.
Things felt crazier down here than they were up there.
Trainers were shouting, crying, throwing more attacks, but this time, the Pokemon were fighting back. A quick skim in the chat and context clues told Arthur that these were Pokemon that were abducted while exploring Ostellia, and here they could actually try to get their partners back. As someone who didn't participate in the region (or was too late to do so), he felt a little more at ease that he could look at this with a calmer mind - none of his Pokemon should be here. He knew that Gou, as painful as it was, was (in a way) safer in the Everworld.
But in a way, it was also the same - when there were colorless Pokemon, there were also tooltips, and he could already spot a number that his Pokemon could hit -- albeit she would suffer some damage as a result. âBuru!â he let out the Granbull, who hit the ground ready for more action. <Let me guess, more gentle prodding?>
âMore like avoid getting hit if you can. Don't prioritize power, prioritize making contact.â
The Granbull smirked. <No promises.>
First was a little walking ice cube, though instead of walking it was more of skidding around. Not surprisingly, it needed to get most of its color back, so he commanded Buru to use Ice Fang and Lick on it. But when the Granbull opened her jaws and had frost coming from her mouth, the moment she bit, the colorless Pokemon retaliated with Sharpen, which made Buru yell in pain. Luckily, in that moment she was able to hold onto the Pokemon, she was also able to touch it with her tongue, and when that happened, the Pokemon seemed to stop moving, as if waiting for something (or someone).
âBuru, are you okay?!â
She whined and snarled, <Felt like biting a piece of a glacier! This is not what a lady should be doing.> she stomped her foot as well, just to show her obvious displeasure.
âI know, I know. Just a little more, okay? Can you still Ice Fang those other two?â
These ones Arthur actually recognized - a Piplup and a Shinx, two Sinnoh Pokemon that were very much popular that they were impossible to forget.
Buru whipped her head towards the Mantyke. <You're healing me after this, got it?!>
<OOOooOo!> Anta responded by making a salute gesture with her flipper.
With that, the Granbull charged again, as the other two Pokemon were not just going to take getting bitten without fighting back. Even their attacks looked colorless somehow, but they still hurt. Buru was able to get at least one frosted bite in for each - restoring their color - and one of them had also fallen down like what happened with the baby iceberg, but the other was still raring to go, and Arthur shouted for his Pokemon to fall back. She was almost limping on the way, so the trainer told his Mantyke to watch over her.
Just as that was happening, some of the other colorless Pokemon were getting riled up and ganging up on a trainer that miscalculated her attacks. Before she got hit, Arthur extended his mist like a rope, and as he practiced, pulled her away before the attacks could strike her. It was a momentary save that made Arthur's heart race more than he realized, partially because he had never tried using his mist hand in front of anyone, and also because he wasn't sure if it would work (nor how would others react). Sure enough, he could hear whispers and pointed looks, because it was clear that the mist was exactly the same as what was coming out of the colorless Pokemon...

NEXUS ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO HIBERNACULUM
"Thanks for the little boost, Morpheus !" the glitch hunter answered as she could feel the bug-type relaxing from the Snubbull's cute CHARM. "Her name's Olivia. We've known each other for a while--"
Shalin felt a powerful buzz beneath her, and not from Olivia's wings. No, it was from Alicia Westfield sending her a priority message that she could not ignore. "Sorry to cut this short, but I need to answer this." She would quickly reply to it before spurring her alien mount to great speed, descending from the Nexus to HIBERNACULUM. "Alicia Westfield found my missing Ponyta! I gotta head down - see you later!"
DIRECT MESSAGE> You did?! I'm on the way!
Tromping on all four of her legs, Olivia ferried Shalin atop her wing, the Beta Tester pushing the Buzzwole to speeds she hadn't reached even in her training at the Nexus. The two had come a long way, understanding one another not through words, but through tactile commands. Unusual she may have been, the Buzzwole was proving to be as reliable of a mount as an equine PokĂŠmon...
...until she caught up with Alicia Westfield and Reynir. All of a sudden, the Buzzwole's wings began screeching at full speed, the rider's entire lower body obscured by large, green and white pixels. The rest of her model decreased substantially in resolution as it rapidly flickered. Name tags became impossible to read, and even Reynir was a blur. Much like when she rode the Ribombee's wing in the Whimsical Woods, the frequency got so high that she fell through the wing, this time slamming into a much harder surface.
Olivia, under Hearteater's control, pierced Shalin's reforming model with her proboscis. Before she could drain too much of her trainer's energy, the Beta Tester managed to get her back inside of her PokĂŠ Ball, which now seethed with red mist. Hyperventilating, she was still shaking from having absorbed the strength of the Buzzwole's wings flapping at full speed. Even with Beta Tester mastered, she still could not hold on. What else did she need to do? Or was it Hearteater at work?
Slowly getting to her feet, Shalin clicked Rumble's PokĂŠ Ball open, but remained on foot. The time for fun was over; it was all serious business from here. Her mastered class let her discern extra information about the greyscale PokĂŠmon around her, highlighting for both her and the Onix, in an aura of color, which PokĂŠmon the Everworld-returned snake could aid. "Those four! The Surskit, Shuckle, Squirtle, and Swirlix!" she called out. "Show them what we've learned!"
"I'll handle them! You reunite with Reynir!" The Onix was off, snatching the Shuckle and Swirlix in his tail and rattling it at great speed... until a TRICK ROOM expanded from it, encompassing the Surskit, too. Time itself seemed to slow within its twisted space; rather than the tail being a blur, its individual shakes were visible for all to see. That rule held true until Rumble dug into the cave's stone floor and unearthed a piece of it, the ROCK THROW projectile hurtling toward the colorless Squirtle in a split second.
Rather than slowing down time, it seemed the unusual space reversed attack speeds, among other things. This would require further study.
Meanwhile, Shalin climbed onto Reynir's saddle. The Ponyta reared in fright, bucking the trainer as furiously as a Galarian Ponyta could. "You don't remember me? It's Shalin!" Her greetings were met with the psychic-type's hooves kicking into the wall, crumbling part of it away under the force of their diamond hardness. "You're my partner!" Red mist seethed from the horse's nostrils as her fright turned to anger, the horse continuing to attempt to unseat her. "Fight it, Reynir! You're a strong boy! We'll fight Hearteater together!"
"KnOw yOuR pLaCe, wOmaN!" Hearteater spoke through the equine as he kicked against the wall a second time, dislodging the girl and hurling her into the opposite one. He clopped next to Shalin and reared, the girl bracing herself for White Our as her Hearteater-controlled PokĂŠmon prepared to ride her down...

Post by Laguna on Sept 30, 2024 14:58:30 GMT 9
Zone One Laguna outright jumped when Orion landed on the small boat beside her, her heart still pounding out of her chest. Any second now, she swore they'd find her friends. Her baby. It was hard to focus when she was so overwhelmed with guilt, but seeing him there still encouraged a smile to form on her face.
She wasn't hurting alone. She could see that look in his eyes he tried to hide.
orioncayge was here for his friends too. So was everyone else. People lost their partners, family, friends, and everything in between.
She'd reach a hand over to brush against his, a few hearts suddenly forming, floating upwards. "I'm okay." She lied, but they both had to know it was one. "I'll feel a lot better once my babies are in my arms again."
"Once they are safe and sound."
Her Pokemon were quiet, committed to the cause, as Roxxanne continued to press forwards, the weight of the small yacht atop her back was nothing in comparison to her raw strength. As Mr. Business seemed to just dig into his briefcase, as if searching for some solution to the problems at hand. And yet, nothing could have prepared any of them for what they saw next. She had seen the colorless Pokemon, prepared for it even, but to see them up and moving, beyond their own control, forced to attack the very people attempting to save their lives, her heart downright broke.
Rocks were thrown at Sheldon as he mindlessly struck back, his shell empty of colors except what little had been restored so far.
Hoppy had slammed themselves into Adze, their legs unnaturally stretched, as if they had forgotten how to jump properly.
And-
Glacia. She was bitten by a friendly Granbull, but her heart couldn't stand watching it. She had to do something- But what could she do? Even if their color was restored, the fighting wouldn't be over. They'd still be in danger, and-
Suddenly, a gloved hand rested atop her shoulder before her thoughts could spiral.
"Go to them." Mr. Business suddenly spoke, nodding his head and adjusting his tie as a sudden burst of ice covered his gloves, Buffing himself. "Me and Roxanne have this covered. We can handle combat all on our own. Your babies need you."
"But-"
"Go!" Roxxanne suddenly shouted, refusing to allow Laguna to continue arguing. "Bring my cousins home!"
With tears dripping down her face, Laguna would nod back, before finally acting. She'd step back aboard the yacht, before dashing forth was as much energy as she could. Her legs carrying her step after step until she jumped straight off the deck, her cloak catching the air and carrying her forwards as she dashed off towards the first one of her Pokemon who had their colors restored.
Towards Glacia.
All the while, Mr. Business kicked his heels and slid down the Onix's head until landing on the ground. "Up to us, my fair lady. Corral them, will you? I shall bring color back to their flesh."
"But of course. Allow me to just-" Roxanne stretched, suddenly twisting and standing upwards to their full height. The yacht that had previously been attached to their back crumbled under the force of their unorthodox movement, the rotted wood crumpling under the pressure and falling behind them. "Much better."
Roxanne suddenly roared out loud, a warning to everyone else to get out of the way as the massive rock snake twisted forth, wrapping their form around each colorless Pokemon until Mr. Business had restored color to them. Occasionally using items from his briefcase, to bring life back to them.
Suddenly providing a bottle of fresh mineral water for an aggressive Surskit that bit them with a well placed Recycle, restoring color as he sprayed them like one might a disobedient cat.
A quick tap of his heels for a proper Rain Dance, raining down healing waters atop the Piplup from a safe position atop Roxanne's head, who was trying to spray water back at him. All clear, another one done.
Curling around the Swirlix, he'd suddenly distract them from trying to bite him with a Dazzling Gleam, the light enhanced from this shiny CD he "borrowed" from an office building.
The Grookey was another case, and as odd as it was, he couldn't help but grin. Normally, he'd have nothing to assist with Grass. But he had recently been given a special tool-
Reaching into his , he'd suddenly pull out a massive Wood Hammer, that absolutely should not fit within the briefcase. He'd slam it down onto the ground beside the Grookey with such an intense force, attempting to remind the Grookey of its line's nature for wooden percussion.
All that were left, were Hoppy and Sheldon, and Mr. Business and Roxanne slid across the ground towards them-
"Glacia!"
Consciousness slowly returned, a soreness that had soaked deep within their form. Their cold air had been quelled, the fire deep within their soul had been smothered. It was like waking up from a coma mixed with sleep walking, and despite not being too injured, the hurt was inside.
"Momma's here, momma's here- Glacia, please, say something." Laguna suddenly picked up the Bergmite into her arms, craddling them close.
Eyes opened, as if opening for the very first time, gazing up across the face of the one thing they never wanted to see. Laguna was crying, a deep hurt had formed within her heart, and the injured Bergmite wanted nothing more than to reach a nonexistant hand up to brush their tears away.
TV-Static flickered within their spines, a fire swiftly returning to their spirit. A firm look in her eyes, such determination building from a seemingly bottomless well. "Momma? Carry me back to the others, I can hear fighting, we have to help."
Perhaps just minutes ago, Laguna would have outright refused. She would have stubbornly refused, argued and shouted like an overprotective mother. But she realized something in that very moment, something she couldn't deny any more.
Glacia wasn't a baby anymore.
The tears began to pour, and yet Laguna couldn't help but let out a quiet chuckle despite it all. It was so absurd, her emotions melting inside of her, and she wasn't quite sure how she was still standing, but somehow she managed. "Alright, hon. Just... Just promise me you'll be more careful."
The iceberg chuckled back, a sad smile on their face. "You know I can't do that."
"Hoppy! Sheldon! It's me!" Mr. Business twirled his feet as he danced around the impromptu arena that Roxanne made by surrounding the three Pokemon. The Froakie and Squirtle were simply leaping forwards, each attempting to bite onto the fashionable business man.
"They don't recognize you!" Roxanne shouted, her tail reaching into the pit to attempt to guard Mr. Business from their attacks, pushing the smaller Pokemon aside. "Ever since you got that makeover, even I-"
"Oh! Now that only makes too much sense. Remind me to support for you Employee of the year, Roxanne."
"Uh, thanks?"
With a sudden twirl of his feet, Mr. Business began a two-part Teeter Dance. The first part twirling water droplets, washing over Hoppy, and the second forming a cool breeze to wash over Sheldon. But neither of the Pokemon were restored, and with the Pokemon unable to see the Tooltips, he was at quite a loss for what else to use. Everything else seemed fairly straightforwards.
Suddenly, Laguna came skating back, with snowflakes and flames on her heels as she dashed. Just a glimpse at her four Pokemon alone revealed the tooltips to her.
"Roxanne!" She shouted, skidding to a halt. "Hoppy needs Dragon Breath! Be gentle!"
The gentle giant immediately pulled back, letting out a powerful gust of swirling gases that knocked the Froakie back, after trying to claw at her stones.
All the colors returned back to their body, and surprisingly they were still managing to cling to consciousness. Laguna would scoop them up too, a soft smile forming on her face. Even as Sheldon the Squirtle continued his mindless rampage, at least by now, she knew they could be better. The process was working.
"Welcome back, sweetheart. You okay?"
"Ugh-" Was all Hoppy's reply at first, the frog clinging to her arms with his sticky pads as if it would help ground themselves. "Where are we- Sheldon!" The frog immediately panicked, memories flooding back of their grand sacrifice, glancing upwards and seeing the turtle still lacking some colors not themselves, an empty look in their eyes.
"Someone, help him!!"

ZONE ONE MOVING TO ZONE TWO Ruby's avian eyes gaze across the caves, witnessing players from across the server restore their Pokemon to life. She could only imagine the heartbreak, the struggle of your own friends being forced to turn against you, to twist their bodies and be used for the Hearteater's vile purposes, after being fed upon and drained.
She couldn't help but wonder if the Princess was the exact same, and they simply never saw the true depths of their horror.
Her wings flapped once, pushing forwards down into the cave a bit faster. Her eyes were focused on the spiraling path down into fog, her beak incapable of making a frown no matter how hard she wanted to.
"They are not both yours," Ruby would respond vocally to the words that spilled from her Celesteela, translating them. Her heart now suddenly pounding as she spoke up. "Maybe you have fed, but you do not understand, and perhaps you shall never. The Dreamers will never go quietly into the night, to allow further suffering."
"All you believe you control, shall be ripped from you, until you are left with nothing but the mere option for regret, if you even choose to have it. For even if victory is in your grasp, you shall be challenged again, and again, for eternity, to never know peace."
Ruby would quiet, simply twisting her wing in an encouraging motion for them to act and help the trainers around them recolor their Pokemon. "Can you assist them?"
The Celesteela once again, did not comprehend what Ruby was saying. It could not. But it knew something. Perhaps it knew what was happening? Perhaps it had seen this before? Perhaps it had long wanted to rebel, but never could until now? Whatever the case was, that smile returned as it raised its rocket arms and-
Nothing.
Their expression suddenly twisted in pain, head leaning forwards as if it was kneeling over. Odd sounds swiftly began spilling from their lips, and Ruby immediately understood what was happening.
Hearteater was trying to control them.
"Look at me!" Ruby shouted, trying to get their attention. Only, for them to be unable to move. Still leaning over, as if about to collapse down.
"Celesteela!" Ruby shouted out as loud as she could, wings floating forwards to brush her feathers against their face. "Listen to me. Listen to my voice. Hear my sounds, my words, my love. Fight it, you can do it."
The Celesteela fought hard, raising its body up, twisting as its rocket thruster arms spun around its form, but the finger-like digits suddenly dug into the ground, as if unable to move. It looked in such pain, such hurt... Ruby couldn't even imagine what they might feel like.
Except, she didn't have to imagine it.
"Focus on me, come on, you can do it." Her beak suddenly twisted back into that of a smile, feathers fading into long, green strands.
"You're stronger than them. Stronger than this." Ruby's voice continued, even as the tone suddenly warbled, speaking through new vocal chords, neck extending upwards and upwards.
The Celesteela finally twisted its head upwards, and despite the pain, it suddenly let go of the ground with is digits.
Wings swiftly fell off of her form, twisting and turning as they curled up into tubes, growing and stretching like bamboo. Bones popped, muscles stretched, alien organs growing.
"If you can not help them, if you are forced to be unable to act, then we shall set an example for all the others." An unfamiliar grin would spread wide as a horn grew from atop their head, and remaining feathers twisting around their body like a robe. "For even their control, will not stop you. For you are my friend now, and I will never allow you to suffer."
Finally, twin Celesteela stood side by side, both smiling widely. Bamboo arms twisted about, as if somehow communicating in a way that one of the two could never truly understand. No words could be shared, not even now. But now, they felt it. Felt what it was like, to properly work together.
And they would fight together.
Digits intertwined on the arms, gripping tightly on for survival. One took a few steps backwards, and after a few seconds the other would painfully move forwards.
Step...... Step.
Step... Step.
Step. Step.
The two eventually began to move in tandem, progressing down further the spiral and into the caves. Down to find Sarah Lee, down to find Solgaleo.
And down, to find themselves along the way.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > HIBERNACULUM It was funny, reallyâhow equipped he was, but at the same time he hadnât followed some of the other heavy hitters deeper into this place.
He idly wondered where the greenette Shalin Nariya had gone off toâmaybe theyâd taken a different entrance?
There were still a few more PokĂŠmon that were still bleached of their color; luckily Hanzo the Greninja was still out and about, keeping an eye out for any possible enemies that might come jumping on themâ
âWait. Wait, we can still save these!â he called to the Greninja, who was about to leap further ahead and look to get moving towards another area, but there were still a few more bleached out, colorless creatures that were âstuckâ (in the sense of the word) motionlessâthey could help them out!
âHanzo, we have exactly one attack that can get them going. Can you hit them all, one at a time, with Aerial Ace? Hit them gently!â
âAs you wish.â
The amphibious PokĂŠmon would then approach each of the three PokĂŠmon, smacking them (Chinchou, Wattrel, and Finizen) as gently as possible with one Aerial Ace attack each, before seeing that there was another presence nearby, which the Greninja saw approaching them en masse.
âHurry up, I can see something coming.â
âWhat is it?â
The amphibious PokĂŠmon would point behind him, and thenâoh, what in the world were those?!
âSomething⌠bad,â the Greninja would hum, but the white-haired elfin had been drawn to the strange, undulating sensation of the tentacles that were slowly floating in mid-air. What had captivated him to do something like this, reaching out to the jelly-like protrusion that was undulating in midair, about toâ
âWhat are you doing?!â the Greninja would scream, trying to pull back the silly human that was about to get tangled in the jellyfishâs tentacles!

Sundial > Escaping to Harbor > Moving to Zone 1 Bee slid down the sandy walls of the Sundial Entrance. The grit slithered beneath his feet.
He hit the ground running and sprinted down the sandy halls towards the main group. He was late. Late for the goddamn raid.
"Don't worry!" he called, as he hit the ground. "I have Corrupted attacks!"
Jaws the Granbull burst from his Pokeball, all muscle, fang, and attitude. "Ayo boss! You want me to rough up these white guys for ya?" he asked Bee.
"No! We gotta heal them!"
"Heal 'em? What I look like a Doctor?"
"I switched you over to Support. You can heal now!"
Jaws raised an eyebrow. He shook his head. "Your tha boss," he said, cracking his knuckles, "so I'll heal 'em best I can. And hey, I'll even rough 'em up a bit. On the house!"
"No thank you," Bee said, but Jaws was already getting to work.
As the Granbull healed the remaining Pokemon with his medicinal Tackle, antiseptic Play Rough, and six-year degree Outrage, Bee was busy defusing a bomb.
He approached the Blacephalon, arms up as if that would defend him from an explosion.
"Easy there. I can help you," he said to the multicolored clown. It radiated heat like a flaming circus, and Bee pressed his palms against it.
A memory shot through his mind.
He snapped back to the present, smiling from the memory. His hands were still pressed against the sizzling head of the Blacephalon. He could almost hear the 'No Common Memory Detected'.
"Not a big circus fan, huh?" Bee asked.
Blacephalon sizzled, its head swelling with explosive promise.
"Shit! Jaws you done?"
"Yeah boss!"
Bee sent out Jam. Dependable Jam. The Big Boy. His pride and joy. The slamdunkster. They high-fived. "Hey little guy!" Bee said, looking up at his full-grown Groudon. "Can you help me buddy?" he asked. He pointed to Buzzster, who was slumped against a sand dune. "Grab that unconscious guy and follow Jaws. EVERYONE GET OUT! THIS ONE'S ABOUT TO BLOW!"
Safe in the Harbor, Jam dropped Buzzster near a pool of salt water.
"Ayo boss I'm taking a five," he panted, and disappeared inside his Pokeball.
"Nice work Jaws," Bee said, patting the Pokeball. He sent out Guzzlord.
"Hey buddy, How about we heal these guys?" Bee asked his alien friend.
[tangent=Ford mi]"ââââ
ââ"[/tangent]
Bee frowned. "What was that buddy? One more time?"
Guzzlord breathed hard, the spiked on its back flicking up and down rhythmically. It looked at Bee with all four eyes and blinked them individually. [tangent=Floooooooooond mreiiiiiiiiii!]"ââ°ââââââââââââ
âââââââââââââ!"[/tangent] It shouted, with its voice like cascading nails. [tangent=Flordgi mandral blan blan theyeyeyepo!]"ââ°âââ
ââ ââââ
âââ° ââ°ââ ââ°ââ ââââŹââŹââŹââżâ!"[/tangent]
Something was serious wrong.
Bee quickly returned the Guzzlord. Was it something about this place? Maybe Hearteater's presence was messing with Guzzlord! He would have to wait until they were somewhere safer before trying again.
It was just him and Jam now. "Okay buddy. Time to get some heals going. We need to heal..." he looked around and spotted the singular Dhelmise that remained in the Harbor. "Oh. Just that one."
Groudon turned and fixed the colorless Pokemon with a Scary Face. Corrupted energy emanated off Groudon's face, instilling a deep green fear in the Dhelmise that completed its color restoration.
"Nice one man! That's everyone in all three zones! Now see if there are any people around that need your help. I'll go and deal with that." Bee pointed to a Nihilego lying on the ground. It looked exhausted, its gelatinous form rumpled and bent from the concussive voice of Aero's Skeledirge.
Bee knelt down beside it. "You okay little guy?" He put a hand on the bell of its head, and closed his eyes.
Nihilego turned. It raised a tentacle and brushed it against his hand in the exact same place. Bee smiled. Common memory located.

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO ZONE 1 > ZONE 2 In the process of abandoning her unconscious Uncle Zac, Bergamot turned, nostrils flaring. A greedy expression flitted across her face. Almost supernaturally, like a vampire who fed on bothering people, she sensed a victim.
"You there! With the dark trenchcoat and the anime hair. Do you want to know a secret?"
Anyone who so clearly wanted to be left alone was practically asking for someone to come spice up their day. Bergamot hiked up her skirts and tagged along behind Nero, breathless. "You know who the real villain of the raid is, don't you?" She flipped her hair smugly and stopped in the middle of the tunnel for dramatic effect, almost stepping on Krony 2012 the shiny male Salandit. "Tis I."
Bergamot didn't wait more than a beat before she launched on. "Ohohoho, that's right, yes! I am the true mastermind behind the Heartbeater," she told Nero, eyes gleaming. "Twas only at my command that the Bloody Bat took control of all the Ultra Beasts, kidnapped all these poor pale Pokemon, and such. You are looking at the true villainess: Bergamot Gristleborg!"
She tried to say her actual name, but moon-spirit magic caught her words in her throat, puppeting her tongue, twisting her vocal cords like candycane stripes.
Her face soured. "Bergamot Gristleborg!" she tried again.
This was outrageous. She couldn't even get credit for her fake villain monologue backstory.
"Ugh! Never mind. Help me find my Pokemon, then," she ordered Nero, typing away at her Global Chat. Alicia Westfield was practically begging for the Heals that only the gracious and benevolent Bergamot Gristleborg could give her. "There should be a Piplup, a Shinx, and an Eternatus. Oh, sorry, I meant Probopass. Probably."
As they came into the Zone 1: Hibernaculum tunnels, Bergamot immediately spotted Guillotine and Celine laying on their backs on the ground, looking pathetic. "There you are!" she exclaimed, scooping up Cell under one arm and Guillotine under the other. "Mission accomplished! Jack, deliver the Gratitude Heals!"
As Mudkip pattered off to deliver drooly, watery Protect heals to Alicia Westfield and Laguna's Pokemon (he'd get Kyukon next round), Bergamot looked down at the pair of Pokemon in her arms. Safe. Colorful. Restored.
She hesitated.
It would be all too easy to brush off this moment. To act like Guillotine's absence hadn't affected her, like she hadn't spent months feeling bored in the game because her starter wasn't there to play the straight man, like she hadn't named a whole team in her knockoff fake reality show after the Piplup because she'd missed her so much.
"Guillotine, I have something to show you."
"...Your replacement. James, come out!"
Krony 2012 the shiny male Salandit looked briefly surprised before he was Escaped back into his Pokeball and kartana was sent out. Bergamot jogged backwards a step to strike a pose next to the papercraft warrior, taking a deep breath.
"(I hope this works) Prepare for trouble!"
A ripping, edge-tearing, crumpling silence seemed to stretch out. James shuddered visibly, limbs jerking, mandibles twitching.

<It's doing it wrong,> said Guillotine, coughing out red mist and reanimating at last. <Are you deaf? That's not the motto.>
"What are you talking about, it's going great!" Bergamot declared. Despite herself, she smiled at the Piplup. "Usually he attacks me and tries to cut off my clothes. Highly inappropriate. Really, he's gotten much better."
<That can't be right,> coughed Cell, reanimating next. <Damn. That was bad. Where are we now?>
<Still in the invasive species' lair, it looks like,> Guillotine observed just in time to see Jack come trotting back from his errand. <Hello, Jack.>
<Peep peep!> the Mudkip said, then seemed to remember he could talk. <Oh, hullo! I've been, uh, healing people.>

"This is why the two-Pokemon limit is a thing," Bergamot said loudly, putting all her Pokemon on the ground. She did not appreciate being overshadowed by four other random bit characters. "Press on, we're still looking for Arran. Nero should have found him by now. I gave him a perfect description."

HIBERNACULUM Unlike Alicia Westfield, he didnât have as much time to untangle the mysteries of the strange chirping noise theyâd encountered with his Celesteelaâhowever, heâd deliberately chosen not to bring her along, but had the Kartana tagging along instead.
So the moment the strange alien language slipped from the Kartanaâs seemingly non-existent mouth, he blinkedâwhat the hell? What?
He would immediately pop open the private message screen, scroll over to a certain name, and then send a very quick message:
While he did try to piece whatever it was his tiny little âmurder paperâ had chirped at him, most of it flew over his head, exceptâŚ
Except one particular word.
For a few moments, the world came to a crashing halt. It felt like heâd been punched again in the gut; not by a âpossessedâ Alioth working under the Noble Courtâs influence, butâ
Of something else entirely.
[tangent=ââŚyouâre not supposed to know that,â]ââŚnon dovresti saperlo,â[/tangent] he would mutter quietly towards the still-spinning, erratically-moving Kartana; who still had the ridiculous-looking, tiny-sized helmet perched on their head.
[tangent=âHow did you know that? I never told you anything about that.â]âCome lo sapevi? Non ti ho mai detto niente a riguardo.â[/tangent]
About how heâd already danced this dance across the ocean; how he knew most of the way the game worked; of how only his Vulpix and Murkrow knew of certain things he told them, and only themâ
How the fuck did the Kartana know about his other, albeit unofficial, in-game moniker mostly used to refer to him in the European server, the âOrsa Maggioreâ?
(Maybe the pinketteâs theory of something inside the device they used to deep-dive into the game accessing things that they would normally not tell anyone else about had some truth to it after all.)
The erratic spinning of the Kartana slowed down, before the tiny blade-arms flashed threateningly in his direction, forcing him to pull out of the spiral heâd been sinking into much faster than normal andâ
[tangent=âDonât do it,â]âNon farlo,â[/tangent] he would continue in that same, quietâdangerous voice. [tangent=âYou already hurt me once. Will you get anything out of it if you hurt me again?â]âMi hai giĂ fatto male una volta. Otterrai qualcosa se mi fai male di nuovo?â[/tangent]
He would hold up both his hands; it was like the entire world had temporarily shrunk down to a pinpoint center with him and the Kartana standing in the middle of what he thought was a frozen wasteland. Wait, frozen wastelandâthis wasnât the European server!
(His mind was playing tricks on him at this point.)
[tangent=âYou helped so much already. I told you, if you only want to listen to me in this language, youâre free to do so. Just. Donât hurt anyone unnecessarily, and most especially not⌠not me.â]âMi hai giĂ aiutato cosĂŹ tanto. Te l'ho detto, se vuoi solo ascoltarmi in questa lingua, sei libero di farlo. Solo. Non ferire nessuno inutilmente, e soprattutto non⌠non me.â[/tangent]
For a few tense, harrowing moments it felt like time had stopped between them.
(For him, it felt like an eternity.)
He would keep his stare fixed on the Kartana, beforeâbefore the slowed-down spinning came to a complete stop; and he heard the exact same chirping noise from the tiny little murder paper.
[tangent=âNever mind that!â]ââââââ ââââ
ââââ!â[/tangent]
He would blink in confusion at the Kartana that had decidedâinstead of following him by spinning in mid-air, would come to settle on his shoulder. Tiny little PokĂŠmonâUltra Beastâthey were, this⌠this was actually a big step for them both at this point.
[tangent=âIf you say so,â]âSe lo dici tu,â[/tangent] he would breathe out as they continued deeper into the place. He would then open the same window, and send the pinketteâwell, he knew that there were two of them so there was going to be some difficulty discerning them apart; so he would send Alicia Westfield another message asking her where the fuck she was and that heâd be following her shortly.
It wouldnât take too long for him to come stumbling acrossâthese PokĂŠmon were not the same as the ones theyâd met earlier; these ones moved with deliberateâ
The red mist definitely unsettled him. These were not like the ones at the entrance that led down here; they were movingâanimated, but at the same time not quite themselves entirely.
Whyâwhy did it feel like something had jammed into his throat the moment he saw that there was another Grookey in the midst of theseâŚ
There was something else that pulled at him, though.
âNo,â he breathed out again; much tempted as he was to summon Muninn right now to confirm his suspicion, there wasâthere was nothing else to it. There he was.
His âoriginalâ starter.
(What a clap back to his previous incarnation across the ocean, huh? Instead of Kindler, Gardenerâand instead of a Grookey, it was a Chikorita.)
He felt the murder paperâs little âclawsâ dig into his shoulder as he closed the distance and made to grab the Grookey; picking him up in his arms and saying only this:
[tangent=âIâm sorry I failed you.â]âMi dispiace di averti deluso.â[/tangent]
Not in English, but in Italian.

Zone 1 > MOVING TO Zone 2 Torino pushed through the fray. All around her trainers were battling colorless Pokemon, pushing them back, restraining them, healing them. "Nuvola! Girasoli!" Torino called, as she slipped past an ongoing scuffle.
Attacks flew everywhere, coloring the Pokemon, and painting the walls with splashes of ice and poison.
And then she spotted him. Her little pink cloud. He was battling valiantly against a Pokemon twenty times his size. He bounced off the sizzling chest of orioncayge's Buzzwole, and straight into the clutches of Shalin Nariya's Onix. The rock beast held him tight as it shifted the world with Trick Room. A spray of glittering pink sparkles soaked into Swirlix, a heal sent by Laguna's Mr. Mime.
"Nuvola!" Torino called, as she picked up the weak, recolored Pokemon. "It is okay, little one." She hugged the Swirlix, squishing its cotton candy form against her chest. "We are back together now," she said, her breath hot in her throat. "I missed you."
It was the first time she had ever rescued a taken Pokemon.
Thoughts of all her lost friends flashed through her mind. Still figures held in chains of ice, dragged into the endless dark, or held under the thrall of the princess.
Swirlix looked up at her with clear eyes. It poked out its tongue at her, and a little part of her melted like summer ice cream. "I will not let you go again," she promised. "Now let us go and find Girasoli."

Zone 1 > MOVING to Zone 2 Orion hadn't warned him that all the running felt like real running. Or that the fights felt like real fights. Or that the stakes were...take a fuckin guess.
He felt helpless, and weak, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. Trembling legs weren't going to slow him down, a furiously pounding heart simply set a faster yet faster pace for his shoes to pound the pavement to. Adrenaline surged through his blood like Nitros in a suped up drag racer, each raspy breath the roar of his engine.
He'd never felt more alive.
When he'd left there'd only been a few mon left, and a dedicated team of stragglers ready to clean up shop, so downwards he'd descended, following the feathery queen in hopes of perhaps finding more friends to help, more victims to save, more adrenaline to be mainlined into his cranium like a new hardline drug of choice. There was an intense joy that rang through his heart with each save, and then a nagging sense of regret like he wasn't supposed to be having fun with this. These pokemon had suffered, and sure they were saving them but this felt like the type of complex that lead firefighters to become Arsonists.
And that felt problematic as fuck.
Still, deeper into the beast he found himself until they entered another chamber and he quickly began to identify familiar faces from the pregame. Alicia Westfield and her battered bayleaf caught his attention, along with Nero who was just joining the fray alongside him. A subtle pang of jealously crossed his heart as he watched them work, wishing he was half as cool as either of them. The Avian Queen (Ruby ) had already begun her warpath deeper, though her form had changed as she helped...whatever that creature she'd been working alongside forward. His eyes glanced upon Laguna as she cradled an iceberg, Glacia if he recalled Orion's smoke break rants correctly, and decided that perhaps she needed a moment.
But his eyes didn't see the pink haired woman, and his gut twisted into a knot. Hell, he hardly knew her aside from a few shared drinks and snacks, a fistful of conversations, but she was friendly and one of the first friends he'd made in the game without Orion's help. His fist clenched, his jaw set, and he sucked in a slow breath to try and calm himself ever so slightly. Then a flash of pink crossed the corner of his eye, and she was there and all of the tension in his body let go in an instant.
Thank fucking god, Torino was okay.
Then his gaze fell upon his Cousin, on the ground wrangling what looked like a very dangerous mon, and all of that soothing woosah bullshit went out the window, tension bouncing back like a skyball spiked into a trampoline. He dashed forward, his feet pounding on the ground, phantom flashes of his past failure dancing in his minds eye.
Not again, NEVER AGAIN.
Yet as he grew close he saw the color return to the creature, and the hostility seem to fade away as Orion seemed to crack some sort of...was that a fucking joke?
"Really dude? Puns? Right now?" Eddie growled as he stomped over to the fallen fighter. With an elegant kick he managed to bounce Orion's discarded shield off the floor and into this hand like how a skateboarder might retrieve their board, a sudden rush of pride as he knew there was NO chance in hell that was ever happening again. One hand offered his cousin a way to his feet, the other offering him his shield like an olive branch.
"Seems like I've missed the fuckin party." He murmured looking around, most of the missing mon no repigmented and reunited with their rescuers. "You aight?"
"Lil sore, but I've hurt worse during one of these things." Orion mused, grunting as he pulled himself to his feet and dusted crimson crumbs off himself. "You?"
"Feelin a little out of my element." Eddie proffered with a shrug. "You all good with Mr Fish...?" He'd motion to the Carvanha that seemed to be recalibrating itself.
"Oh, that's Poseidon, Poseidon meet my cousin Eddie."
"Thalutathons!" The piranha garbled in a voice that sounded like a Murloc from World of Warcaft talking with a lisp. "I am the lord of the Thee."
"Nice to meetcha, we ready to dive deeper?" His gaze would flit from fish to fighter. "We got a bat to attack yeah?"
"Yeah."
And with one last glance over the battlefield Eddie dove deeper, Orion keeping one wistful eye over his shoulder to his lover, unsure if leaving her behind was the right move.
But all of her mon were here...Gil was still missing.

HEARTEATER RAID: CYCLE 3Enter freely and of your own free willUpper ZonesAs the players who've successfully bonded with their new Ultra Beasts rush towards Zone 1, the tunnels swell with a now-familiar voice: the twisted vocals of the creature waiting for them deep below. Hearteater speaks through stolen mouths, seeking new outlets now that its previous connections have been broken. [tangent=Broken drones. Run while you still can.] ââââââ â
âââââ. âââ ââââ°â âŹââ ââââ°â° âââ.[/tangent] says Morpheus's Poipole. [tangent=Or will you wander back into my mouth?] ââ âââ°â° âŹââ ââââ
ââ ââââ ââââ â⏠âââââ?[/tangent] asks Wolf' Poipole. [tangent=Servants no longer. Only fit to be served up.] ââââââââ ââ â°âââââ. âââ°âŹ âââ ââ ââ ââââââ
ââż.[/tangent] says Big Bee's Nihilego. Back at the three Entrances, the last of the colorless Pokemon escape, and a bright chime sounds in everyone's UI. All Native Pokemon have been restored to Ostellia! But there is no time to rest and enjoy this immense victory, because someone forgot to disarm the clown. The Blacephalon explodes in a fireball of flaming confetti that shakes the Sundial Entrance. Sand pours down the unstable sides, where the explosion has blasted great fissures in the sandstone walls. And out of the cracks wriggle dozens more Blacephalon. The horde of slender, multicolored creatures slither out and across the sand, leaving wriggly trails as they chase any stragglers out of the Sundial Entrance and down into Zone 1. At the nearby Harbor Entrance, the explosions cause a surge in the brine pools, flooding the area with neck-high waves. The surging tide overflows the natural pools and creates a flash flood, washing Josh Devlin to Zone 1.
Zone 1The tangled tunnels of Hibernaculum are full of battle. Pockets of combat spring up, shifting swiftly as players tag in and out so that they can cover more colors. Attacks of every type and color slash and blast the walls, and the guerilla clashes transform into tearful reunions as Players restore their kidnapped Pokemon. Red mist slicks the floor and the air shivers with pale visages. More abducted Pokemon from deeper in the tunnels are drawn to the sounds of combat and familiar voices. They are pulled to you, like moths to their home flame.
A Dodrio springs through the mist, its scratching feet trailing red dust clouds. Its trio of heads cast back and forth, looking for someone. The imposing form of a Probopass, pale as cut marble, crunches its way through the too-thin halls. It gouges tracks in the walls and lets out huffs of red smoke and iron filings. And an overlarge apple, its skin as pale as Snow White, rolls down the tunnel, leaving a trail of white syrup. Its heads at anything it passes, always searching for that familiar smell in the cloud of sweetness. But as players are busy saving their kidnapped Pokemon, the Blacephalon Swarm invades Zone 1. They slither on the heels of the Upper Zone escapees, leaving snake tracks in the wet tunnels and a lingering hiss in the air. At the first sight of careless players they rear up, heads swelling with a fresh and [tangent=250 DMG (Can be Disrupted)]furious explosion[/tangent].
Entering: Zone 2The tunnels tighten their spiral, funneling you downwards towards Hearteater's lair.
As players tread the winding path they must travel through a storeroom for Hearteater's food, though this one holds something stranger and more dangerous that loot, light, or water: it holds Corruption.
Oozing black masses slip down the walls. Slick, inky monstrosities that emanate a deep, gut-churning dread in those present. Recognizable attributes rise and fall in the corruption like ingredients in a horrific stew: off-color eyeballs, gaping mouths, spurs of bone and horn.
As the advance team enters the Corruption chamber, Ruby's Celesteela speaks up. The voice is loud and sure, metallic like spilled blood.
[tangent=So plentiful. Everything in this black land is mine. Every trickle of color. Every struggling piece of prey. So thrash and cry, scrap. That is all you can do.]ââ âżâ°âââââââ°. âââââŹâââââ ââ ââââ ââ°âââ â°âââ

âââŹ, âââââż. ââââ ââ ââ°â° âŹââ âââ â
â.[/tangent] As players pass through this room, they might find [tangent=As a mechanical action, players may pick one of the following changes: - The Pokemon's Primary Type changes to - The Pokemon's Secondary Type changes to - One of the Pokemon's moves (specify) changes to ]something strange occurs[/tangent].
Leaving the horrors behind and following the thickening haze of red mist, you find the end of the road: a huge, funnel-shaped pit of sand, colored crimson by the bloody mist that floats up from Hearteater's lair in Zone 3 below you.
Above and around the pit are Ultra Beasts. They do not seem concerned with you at all: instead, they jet, stomp, and buzz through the room, dropping [tangent=As a mechanical action, characters in Zone 2 may seize a single piece of loot before it rolls into the pit. Whatever item they grab will be unlocked for purchase by other characters in the post-event Raid Shop.]treasures into the pit[/tangent] before moving back out into the tunnels to gather more offerings. The Buzzwole drop off their loot, then turn around to fetch more. Guzzlord waddle over the sands, disgorging their swallowed hoard into the pit like mother birds feeding their young. Celesteela fire rare items out of their bamboo stalks like t-shirts out of bamboo cannons.
Glittering offerings clatter and skid down the sides of the pit. A multitude of strange shapes, half-buried in the hungry sand. The treasures tumble down the sloped sides, circling like food dropped into an ant-lion pit. As the items disappear into the red mist below, you realize that this is the only way down.
To reach Hearteater's lair, you must pass through the neck of the hourglass.
A warning appears at the bottom of the pit.
You will not be able to return this way. Proceed to World Event Boss: Hearteater?

ZONE 2 > ESCAPE TO ZONE 1 > ZONE 2 "Guillotine, ew, don't touch that," Bergamot said, hefting the Piplup above her head as they passed back through the Corruption Chamber on their way back to Zone 1.
They'd found the Boss Room, so Morgana was doing the smart thing and heading back to tell everyone else instead of leaping in on her own to steal all the glory. Of course, she could have just sent a message on Global Chat, but she had another reason for coming back so quickly.
They'd found Corruption, they'd found more Ultra Beasts, they'd found lootâ but they hadn't found her Probopass.
Which meant it was back the way they'd come. Double ugh!!
<I feel more powerful now,> said Guillotine, charging up a beam of infinite blackness.
"Don't do that," Bergamot said, distracted. She held up a seal that shone with starlight, admiring the way it twinkled even in the dark. "Excellent find, Celine, I can't wait to equip this on someone."
"No problem. Just risked my fuckin' life to get it," said the Shinx, jumping over a blackened tentacle. "Are we almost there?"
As she re-entered Zone 1, she waved the starry cosmetic item above her head enticingly, trying to draw attention to herself. "Everyone, treasure!" she called alluringly, "In the next zone! Gold and riches beyond your wildest dreams!"
<What are you doing,> her Piplup asked, deadpan. <Why are you trying to make everyone go down there?>
"As opposed to what, staying here waiting for even more colorless Pokemon to show up? Once they've got everyone, they should move on! It's simple enouâ"
She caught sight of Arran and paled, looking almost like a colorless Pokemon herself. Having arrived late to the battle, Bergamot had been spared the traumatic sight of her Piplup and Shinx bleached white as daikon radishes, tearing into their opponents like mindless puppets.
"Oh no... my poor, sweet Probopass..." she whispered, watching the big mustached rock firing its pale mini-noses into sad trainers. "What have they done to you?" His big blue eyes... his little red hat... his big red nose... they were all horrible white, just like a parsnip!
<Does Arran even talk? I've never heard him talk,> said Cell, cleaning a paw. Bergamot whirled on the Shinx. "Of course he talks," she said, wondering if she'd ever heard him talk, "Don't be rude. Arran, it's me, Bergamot! Cease this tomfoolery and come back to the right dark side."
She tried to lay a hand on one of the Probopass's turnip-white nostrils, but it spun away, snorting out a trail of scarlet mist. "Well, we tried!" Bergamot said, looking around for Kyukon. "Where's that n00b from Team Apex Guillotine who you said helped you earlier?"
<Excuse me?> asked Guillotine.
"There he is! Jack, go! Deliver the wet heals of gratitude and then we're leaving!"
Jack trundled off towards the white-haired trainer and his Granbull. <Peep peep,> he said when he arrived, wagging his fishy tail. A shimmering, liquid Protect shield formed in the Mudkip's mouth like a giant bubble, then floated towards the bulldog before popping in a delightful shower of drool.
Something bumped Morgana from behind as she stood watching Jack return from his errand, and she turned around to see her Probopass, fully restored. "What? You're free now?" the villainess asked, looking around. "Who did it?! James, send a token of my gratitude!"
The Probopass hummed and pointed its giant, right-angle red protuberance towards Nero and Alkaid. Bergamot turned to her Kartana and shooed it towards the two male trainers. "You heard Arran! Go, go!"
Kartana had no idea what the human in the blue dress (or the silent Probopass) was saying. But it had seen Nero before, so it flitted that direction. It scanned the teen's Yanmega with its Laser Focus, silently repairing the damages, then saw something which immediately drew its attention: another Kartana.
Approaching the tattooed human (making it clear it came in peace) James floated around the drooping Kartana on Alkaid's shoulder, inspecting it with an air of distress. Its body crumpled and un-crumpled, agitated.
[tangent=Mother of the Mists, your children are dying⌠but you do not care for us, this one knows.]"ââââââ ââ âââ âââââ, âŹâââ ââââ°â
âââ âââ â
âŹâââ⌠âââ âŹââ â
â âââ ââââ âââ ââ, ââââ âââ âââââ."[/tangent]
Something was building in the papery Ultra Beast. It folded and unfolded, agitated. It scanned Alkaid's Kartana again with a bright blue beam of Laser Focus, analyzing it, healing it, then the light turned off.
[tangent=This one will die, too. But not for you.]"ââââ âââ âââ°â° â
ââ, âââ. âââ âââ âââ âŹââ."[/tangent]
The Kartana burst into activity. A flurry of slashes hurled through the air, bleeding umbral light as they impacted into a slowly-darkening Coalossal. Razor-sharp leaves peppered the field in a storm, driving emerald green back into a Hisuian Lilligant. Kartana zoomed back and forth, maddened, radical, doubling down on a Mudsdale whose body was marked with huge white patches like an appaloosa.
"What's he doing out there?" Bergamot asked, shading her eyes as she caught glimpses of her Kartana flashing around the field. It was moving so fast it almost seemed to teleport, driven by some new madness as it scissored away one-by-one at Hearteater's remaining threads. "It's a good thing I put him in Support. Imagine if he'd been a Sweeper!"

ZONE 1 > ZONE 2 Okay, so mostly everyone had made it into the current zone, butâwhy did it feel like theyâd forgotten to do something while they were all down hereâŚ
The answer would reveal themselves a few moments later when the all-too-familiar head of⌠cazzo.
[tangent=âNow I understand why there are adults who are afraid of these,â]âOra capisco perchĂŠ ci sono adulti che hanno paura di queste cose,â[/tangent] he grumbled as he resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose.
ClownsâŚ
Fact of the matter was that some of the⌠faceless clowns didnât look like they were going to explodeâand despite him already having one of his own, wouldnât hurt to try and communicate with them, right?
However, as soon as he got close, the âheadâ of the one he tried to communicate with started glowing. Yeah, nope, not going to risk it!
The rest of the clowns even looked ready to blow their heads up in an attack and bring down as many players with them as possibleâbut not today. Definitely not on his watch! He would reach down and summon his other âunofficialâ starter, Muninn the Murkrowâwho then started screaming unintelligible murder at the freaky, eyeless clowns!
âI know, I know!â he would quickly revert to Englishâwaiting for the tiny âclawsâ of the Kartana to dig in; at least for now he would be spared.
âWhat do you need me to do?â
[tangent=ââŚthe one thing weâre actually good at,â]ââŚl'unica cosa in cui siamo veramente bravi,â[/tangent] he would smirk; and while the corvid PokĂŠmon would give him a confused look because why was he speaking Italian and not English, the Murkrow would then spread their wings wide.
Maybe⌠maybe it had been the passage of time that had attuned Muninn to understand his mother language?
[tangent=âQuash, and step on it!â]âSpintone, e calpestalo!â[/tangent] he would all but yell; pointing forward at the nearest congregation of clowns whose heads were starting to glow rather ominously. He would then turn towards the rest of the players, and had already said half of what was on his mind in Italian before he had a belated realization that most likely only one of the pinkettes could understand him.
âI need another player who can help me throw off these exploding clown heads before they blow!â
He waited for the Kartanaâs claws to sink into his shoulderâbracing himself; but there was none.
Hadâno, that couldnât beâ
[tangent=âI need your help again,â]âHo di nuovo bisogno del tuo aiuto,â[/tangent] he would continue quietlyâbut in Italian again; not English. The tiny little âmurder paperâ would detach themselves from his shoulders and begin spinning upside-down⌠okay, why were they spinning upside-down? What had he done this time?
[tangent=âCan you hitâokay, letâs take some of the bigger targets. Night Slash twice on that one,â]âRiesci a colpireâok, prendiamo alcuni dei bersagli piĂš grandi. Nottesferza due volte su quello,â[/tangent] he would point at the Coalossal that was trailing red mistâand he already knew who this one belonged to; before pointing over to a Probopass and then going on, [tangent=ââŚand use Night Slash, after that Vacuum Wave on the one with the big nose!â]ââŚe usa Nottesferza, poi Vuotonda su quello con il naso grosso!â[/tangent]
(What, he couldnât help it!)
The upside-down spinning would stop; and the tiny little âmurder paperâ would fly forward; ready to fulfill its âmanifest destinyâ, so to speak.
He would then look down at the Grookey who was still in his arms, because holy shit on a stick how long had they been apart.
âSorry,â he would mutter once more, unable to give the snarky one a direct stare in the eye. âI wasnât able toââ
âThe important thing is you came back. Though couldnât you have come a little sooner? Shit got lonely withoutââ
Nothing much changed, he would think in the back of his mind as he felt a bark of laughter escape him.
âI didnât know you knew another language.â
âBecause you didnât ask,â he would cackle, before looking over at the appleâyes, that was the last one they could help for now.
âAllow me,â and the Grookey would hop out of his arms; landing on the ground and then taking aim with the single biggest hammer that they could conjure up from their scrawny little arms andâ
âDuck!â was all the warning he would get; the Kartana would eventually return to where he was and sink their tiny little âclawsâ back into his shoulder to hang on; while the Murkrow would fly back and nest in his hair as a Wood Hammer came flying towards the Hydrapple that was attacking everything on sight.â
Like a berserker possessedâŚ
It was a shame he didnât have his battle axe here; otherwise heâd have been holding it one-handed and slung it over his shoulder, waiting for the rest ofâthe rest of them to clean up the mess and get healing from the PleaidesâŚ
Okay, Alkaid, calm down, enough with the reminiscing⌠theyâre all gone now; this is the present, an entirely different ending⌠a completely different story as compared to what happened back across the ocean.
