WORLD EVENT: HEARTEATER PT.1

WHERE HAVE YOU BURIED ALL YOUR CHILDREN?

This World Event will be a RPG Dungeon Crawl focusing on resource management and information-gathering. There will be some light mechanical combat, including healing, but no zone or grid-based battling. The primary goal will be to reach the end of the dungeon in order to learn the form, features, and abilities of the hidden Raid Boss (to be fought in Pt. 2). Some players will not make it out of the dungeon, and will need to be rescued in Pt. 2.

The time has come!

We're doing something a bit different for World Event Pt.1, as I'd like it to be a pretty small/intimate group. Ideally, I'd like players to form new bonds, rely on one another, and interact communally like you're doing a thread together (not just reply blindly to the mod post). It's a cool opportunity to share a unique, pivotal, high-stakes experience!

- I'm trying to work Morgana towards joining Team Plasma, so I hope she can have a realization about the legitimate danger/horrors she as a trainer is putting her team into. I'd actually kind of like if she got trapped there at the end, as it's a more severe consequence for silly actions.

What do you hope your character can have the chance to do in this dungeon?

- I'm trying to unlock Jeweler, so I'd like to find some valuable items inside! I also want to evolve my Sneasel into Sneasler, but I want it to be for a cool reason, so I'm looking for a good opportunity.

What kinds of people does your character work well with? What kinds do they clash with?

- Bergamot works well with reactionary characters who acknowledge her stupid shit without actually preventing it. She does not work well with other silly/attention-hogging characters or characters who ignore her.

If your character becomes trapped in the dungeon (likely) do you have a backup character to use in Part 2, or are you willing to potentially sit Part 2 out?

- Yes, I have three other characters.

What's your preferred time between posting cycles?

- 48-72 hours to keep up momentum, but up to a week if necessary. I can do 24 hours if there's no complex mechanics.

Don't write too much, just answer straightforwardly and honestly! I'll be selecting applicants who I think will MOST ENJOY the content we've planned. For example, if a character seems to be looking to 'heal from past trauma' and I have a dense psychological horror planned, they probably won't enjoy the dungeon!

If you are not selected, it is NOT because you're 'not worthy' or something (lmao): it may just be that this dungeon doesn't feel quite right for your character, or perhaps it's more important that they be present in Part 2.

5 SLOTS MAXIMUM. Not all slots will necessarily be filled if I don't feel the applicants are right for this dungeon! The dynamic of this thread is very important to me, so don't take it personally if you're passed over. Feel free to apply with multiple characters in case one of them turns out to be more suitable than the others.

Applications are open to slower posters too (though I personally will struggle less with procrastination if we can do less than a week per posting cycle).

How do you hope your character develops/changes if included in this dungeon?

I would like Josh to learn that speed isn't the only tool in his toolbox. There is a time and a place for going fast, and there is a time and place for him to take his time.

What do you hope your character can have the chance to do in this dungeon?

I would like Josh to work toward getting his Zapdos eggs hatched - one is pending the awarding of loot from a Scenario and one will be purchased with AP and BYTES. I would also like to see him fight against more corrupted foes - Josh is currently fighting a Corruption superboss with Alicia Westfield and is getting his ass handed to him. Badly. He needs to be able to learn how to fight him.

I would like Josh to suffer a white-out and lose one of his Pokémon to the Everworld, either in the dungeon or in the raid.

I would also love to have a big moment where he uses his Corrupted Ledger in tandem with his Player class/Ironsmith class. I would also like his combat abilities on foot to be tested -- a place where he has to fight without being able to ride a Pokémon.

What kinds of people does your character work well with? What kinds do they clash with?

Josh is heroic and works well with people who are straightforward, generally good, and have teamwork in mind. He does not work well with those with an evil bent or are overly selfish.

If your character becomes trapped in the dungeon (likely) do you have a backup character to use in Part 2, or are you willing to potentially sit Part 2 out?

I will be entering both Shalin Nariya and Josh Devlin and have the other character as a backup. Josh is more prepared for the raid, so I would prefer to have Shalin be in the dungeon if possible.

What's your preferred time between posting cycles?

72 to 96 hours.

How do you hope your character develops/changes if included in this dungeon?

Torino is still very focused on the troubles that she has escaped from EU. Her experience in UNOVR is still very colored by this, and she doesn't quite understand the ways that NA is different yet.

She is also very happy-go-lucky, and I would like to mature the slight streak of trauma that she has from EU the ability for her to view things seriously when needed. Basically she has light (joyous) and dark (reliving trauma from EU) and I would like to fill in a little more of that middle ground and make the dark a little greyer.

I think she also has trouble separating her Pokemon from their EU counterparts (where applicable), and I would like the opportunity for her to make unique memories with some of her closest Pokemon. Donphan especially, was caught only because he was her main Pokemon on EU and she often confuses one for the other. This feels like a good chance for Donphan to develop and define itself as an individual.

What do you hope your character can have the chance to do in this dungeon?

Torino is very invested in the Ostellia storyline.

She had 2 Pokemon abducted in Midas Corp and is still coming to terms with what she has lost. I would like to progress that storyline through greater understanding of the threat and perhaps a chance to get her friends back.

She is also working hard to communicate with her UB (Xurkitree) and has had very meaningful moments on the cusp of some strange understanding. I think that the communication with UB angle is very important to Torino and something I would love to delve more into.

As minor goals, I hope that Torino can make new friends, better connect with and develop her Pokemon, and potential collect some strange new flowers.

What kinds of people does your character work well with? What kinds do they clash with?

Torino is incredibly amicable, and gets along with everyone. She brings a strong positive vibe to the situation, and livens up parties with her 90% understanding of English. She hasn't had issues getting along with anyone yet, and I think she would also work well bringing people out of their shell.

If your character becomes trapped in the dungeon (likely) do you have a backup character to use in Part 2, or are you willing to potentially sit Part 2 out?

Yes. Several. I'm also running Part 2 so I'm not worried about not being included. On that same note I would love to be part of Part 1 so that I can experience some sort of surprise this world event lmao

What's your preferred time between posting cycles?
48-72, but I'm flexible. I like to keep it fast to maintain momentum.

How do you hope your character develops/changes if included in this dungeon?

Ruby is already so attached to the world, but I'm looking for her to grow even more involved. I hope she realizes just how much danger the world truly is in and begins to help it herself. She can't just sit by any longer, the Dream World will still be there. The world itself is so beautiful, she has to do her part too.

She's actively avoided taking part in any major fight, like her running away from the Noonlight Raid after being there for the party beforehand. She told herself it was to protect Mom who came with her, but in truth she was just scared. I hope she can grow that confidence, being forced to make a choice herself.

She has yet to even activate PokeSpeech, and yet I want her to eventually Join Plasma. I'd love for this to really help plant the seeds to inspire that, if possible!

What do you hope your character can have the chance to do in this dungeon?

I am hoping for Ruby to be able to do something really brave, that the old her never would have done. To take a risk, even if it means she struggles with pain, gets caught, or has to struggle. I want her to be able to make a genuine change herself, and not just sit back in the dream kingdom and wait for others to do so.

Even if, and especially if, it messes with her brain activity patterns like the Precipice event, in a way that makes the researchers back at VMT wonder what the hell is happening to her. I'd really love to embrace that duality of her existence within UNOVR!

She's not a fighter, and probably never will be. So I'm hoping for there to be a way to utilize her unique perspective, and her specific skills and knowledge to help! It's unlikely that she will ever attend a Raid proper if she's given the choice, but I want her to be able to help everyone regardless, in a way that only she can, simply by being her.

What kinds of people does your character work well with? What kinds do they clash with?

Ruby works well with people who have genuinely good intentions and aren't afraid to simply act. As a very thoughtful and introspective person, she often struggles to act right away, and having a push helps her make up her mind. However, she clashes hard with people who don't care. People who treat the world like a Game where nothing matters. The game *is* her world.

Absolutely. I have 4 other characters, who would be able to participate, just a matter of choosing who! And more than willing for her to get abducted as well!

What's your preferred time between posting cycles?

48-72 hours. I am historically a bit slow to reply, but for main events I adore the rush.

Raid Stats

• CHARACTER LIMIT: None
• CYCLE LENGTH: 72 hours per cycle (48 mechanical, 24 flavor-only)
• RUNTIME: ~2 Weeks (5 cycles) from September 25 ~ October 8
• POST LIMIT: Maximum 2 per cycle OOC, but only 1 effective [tangent=A Mechanical Post has the following:
  - Pokemon 1’s action (attack, heal, or switch out)
  - Pokemon 1’s core ability (disrupt, recoil, etc)
  - Pokemon 2’s action
  - Pokemon 2’s core ability

Stakes:

Our World Events are usually fairly high-stakes, with something like a settlement, a Route, or a NPC's life on the line. This event is more about what you can gain rather than what you can lose: you must not only defeat Hearteater, but also rescue the Abducted Pokemon/Solgaleo/Sarah Lee, free the enslaved Ultra Beasts, and restore the drained and colorless Wild Pokemon of Ostellia.

Purpose:

The goal of this raid is first and foremost a rescue mission! Please make your raid prep with rescue in mind rather than just fighting the Boss, who is a psychic entity that specializes in controlling its minions from afar. Depending on results, you may not reach Hearteater itself (or at all!) until the very end of the Raid.

Difficulty:

There will be no difficulty levels in this raid, as we are not expecting high casualties! It should be fairly beginner friendly, with a high emphasis on move types and meaningful narrative moments rather than pure damage output.

Theme:

The theme of this raid is COMMUNICATION, as you will need to work together to combine your skills and do well. Communication in particular between yourselves and your Ultra Beasts is emphasized, and will likely have its own rewards during the Raid!

Morals:

This is not a morally ambiguous raid! Hearteater is a blatantly evil, irredeemable boss whose only motivation is to eat more of everything, forever. The Ultra Beasts, however, are innocent victims, and we would appreciate minimal violence/gore when interacting with them. We do not appreciate trying to pop their heads or rip off their limbs when the entire point of this raid is to try and save them!

RECONNAISSANCE RESULTS

Hearteater is at the bottom of an hourglass-shaped dungeon, guarded by mind-controlled Ultra Beasts and colorless Player Pokemon. There are three entrances to the dungeon: one in the Dunes (Broken Sundial) one in the Nexus (Office Building, Abduction Hour) and one in the Harbor (Dragon's Den). You may choose which entrance you want to use upon entering the Raid.

Hearteater has the ability to incapacitate Pokemon by draining them of their color. Players should focus on restoring colorless Pokemon they encounter by hitting them with a move type of each missing color.

RECOMMENDED:

• Sweepers with Fast Attack! Each Fast Attack can be a different Pokemon move, so a Max-Tier Sweeper could use 6 different move types on multiple targets in a single turn.
• Supports with Heal! Same as Fast Attack, but doesn't cause damage. If not KO'ed, the Pokemon you're restoring may still be able to assist you later in the dungeon!
• Pokemon with highly diverse movepools.

Player Pokemon that are restored may temporarily rejoin the user's party as a Bonus Pokemon. If recalled early into their Pokeball, they may not re-enter the Raid.

Additionally, players' Ultra Beasts may INFORMATION UNKNOWN! Hearteater may speak to individual players through their active Ultra Beasts, unlocking custom dialogue. Due to Hearteater's psychic control, players' Ultra Beasts may not inflict damage during the Raid unless they successfully roll a 20 (1d20+Any Refresh Bonuses) to overcome Hearteater's orders. If they succeed, INFORMATION UNKNOWN and INFORMATION UNKNOWN!

You have an additional ally: a shiny Solgaleo who seems committed to helping you defeat Hearteater once and for all. Perhaps his INFORMATION UNKNOWN may be the key to INFORMATION UNKNOWN.

Hearteater usually takes the form of dark red mist, which fills the lower half of the Hibernaculum dungeon. Hearteater is able to freely control this sinister miasma, which it uses to puppet the bodies of colorless Pokemon as well as INFORMATION UNKNOWN. However, when it materializes, it is revealed to be an ancient, sightless, flightless Lunala of grotesque girth.
