ISLAND DEFENSE: CANOPY
"Now will you listen to me? We have to go." -finnegan fjordFollowing the Fast Travel prompt, players spawn into A Branching Canopy and are met with an alarming sight.
1,000 MINI_CODIES have infested this region. Each only the size of a tennis ball, they are an unstoppable tide, taking BYTES out of reality like a swarm of locusts in a field of crops. For each BYTE consumed, a black, pixel-shaped hole filled with binary is left behind.
The Mini_Codies swarm up the trees, crunching bromeliads like data and leaving a wake of empty game tiles where lush foliage used to be. While they effortlessly chew through background environments, they seem to have trouble consuming areas modified by players, as if these places have a greater density of complex code.
Instead of being reduced in seconds, you have bought yourselves minutes of precious time.
MINI_CODIES: 1,000 REMAINING SAVE THE CANOPY, SAVE THE WORLDMeanwhile, Primal C0D13 patrols the island, buzzing ominously overhead. As players desperately try to clear out the Byte Squad before it's too late, the blimp-sized AI zips through the sky above, pausing periodically to scan the ground below. "SEARCHING... SEARCHING..."

âOh geeze, oh no, why did I say anythingâŚâ Manish groaned as C0D13 vanished. He ran down the beach, refusing to look at where Julia used to be. He would actually cry if he thought about it for too long. He finally reached Ryan and Cereal by the time the Fast Travel option popped up. And it wasnât like Manish hated the other places; well, he kind of hated them. But he did love the canopy. All the time fishing, napping in sunbeams, catching pokemon, there was no way he was going to let the Mini_C0D13s destroy that place. Manish took a moment to dramatically wave at Morgana. âHi! Thank you!â he yelled and then pressed the button to Fast Travel to the Canopy. MANISH FAST TRAVELED TO CANOPY After a flash of light Manish and his two pokemon found themselves at the Canopy to see the Mini_C0D13s already trying to tear it apart. âWeâre gonna need helpâ Manish said as he reached into his pocket. He knew who would want to help out with this. Another flash and Lucy appeared. <Oh hell nah! Not my fuckinâ jungle!>âLanguage!â Manish hissed, but secretly agreed with Lucyâs sentiments. âLuc, take out as many of them as you can as fast as you can. Use Quick Attack.â The words barely left his mouth before there was just a green blur of Lucy taking out as many Mini_C0D13s as she could. <Hi-ya! And fuck you! Ka-chop! Get rekt you stupid littleâŚwhatever you are!> She yelled as she tore through the Mini_C0D13s. LUCY used QUICK ATTACK (FAST ATTACK on MINI_C0D13) Now that she was doing her thing, Manish could focus on the surrounding area. He was actually right next to where he was trying to build shelters for the pokemon in the Canopy. There were a few Mini_C0D13s starting to munch on one of the roofs he built. The pokemon that were using the shelter were huddled down deep inside. Manish didnât want to know what was going to happen if Mini_C0D13s managed to get to them. He leapt on top of Ryan and pointed at the offending replicants. âRyan, stop them!â <You got it!> Giant vines unraveled from around Ryanâs flower and started to bat away at the attacking Mini_C0D13s. RYAN used VINE WHIP (CHARGE ATTACK on MINI_C0D13) Manish then scooped up Cereal and pointed him at a group of nearby Mini_C0D13s. âCereal, go ahead, give us a scream.â <BRRRRRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT.> Erupted from the tiny Espurr. The soundwaves slammed into the Mini_C0D13s and immediately disintegrated them. CEREAL used DISARMING VOICE (CHARGE ATTACK on MINI_C0D13) "Good job," Manish said as he gave a kiss to Cereal's head before recalling him back to his pokeball. He might need some healing in the next round and he only had one other pokemon that could do it. No matter how badly he really didn't want to summon him. But if that was the price it cost, well, nobody gets to mess with Manishâs napping spot. DICE ROLLS

And it would be that the azure streak in the sky continued onward. Omen flew away from the beach, through the wooded plains and towards the very heart of the jungle that cried out in fear at the hateful mass that ate away at it. Omen could feel those cries from her home. It was the place from which she was born, the place where her friends at master's side had come from-All save for Will'O, that was. What would he say at such a time? Perhaps the forest's cry was part of the Will he spoke of? Right now, in this critical moment, Omen could see a glimpse of the wisdom that the fox sage held within himself. It was no matter. The forest was at risk, and Omen would not forgive them. Just as any Omen was, the bird flew across the sky as a signal of impending ruin that was soon to come. She did not run straight into the mass of C0D13 again-They knew better this time, and had spread out from a clump so that she could not catch them all. Omen did not need to catch them all-Not when the forest raged to do so first. She intended to let the forest to cry out in fury as it so very wished to. That Azure comet called Omen soared across the treetops, her talons brushing the canopy's roof as she flew. Each and every leaf she touched curled and sharpened to a hateful razor point, just as Omen's wings had when she cut through the C0D13's mainframe with her Leaf Blade. This was no blade-it was a Storm, one that had been long coming. The leaves would be her rainfall, and the cries of C0D13's death would be her thunder, and the shining pixels of their falling forms would be her violent lightning that would rage within the sky. Soon enough, the trees themselves reached upwards towards the clouds and engulfed the parasites that had been so freely consuming it. You will return to the soil of our home. Sink beneath the jungle's earth. Fall so that new life may grow over the damage that you have caused us.
And of course Lucky had to be wading through all of this mess. He'd almost whited out once or twice from the razor storm that had come to life alone! He had taken hide in the shelter that he had thankfully built for so many PokĂŠmon in advance. He was surrounded by wurmples that had been brought here by Inari right at this very moment, watching the power unfold before his eyes outside. Was this what PokĂŠmon were capable of? Lucky was so proud of his little wrath of God. She always had excelled when it came to hunting swarms... What just happened? Let's run it down.
Leshy has given Omen another +20 to all future rolls via the Growth move used to buff!
Omen used Leaf Storm against the Canopy C0D13 swarm.

CANOPY: SECOND WAVE
"Why are you moving so slowly... It's still dangerous here you know..." - INARISPOILERS AHEAD! PLEASE READ THE MID-ROUND UPDATE IN THE MAIN THREAD BEFORE YOU PROCEED!
Victory is short-lived. The players watch as an irritated C0D13 assesses the disappointing performance of his Mini_Codies, types away at his command prompt, then simply releases another wave of modified clone-bots to finish the job.
New and improved, meet the MINI_CODIE_2!
Twice the size and efficiency of the original MINI_CODIE, the next wave advances on the Canopy like a drone squad from the skies, targeting the remaining portions of Beta Island that survived the first attempt.
But this time, you have an advantage. You're already here. The first swarm of Mini_Codies beat you to the punch, but this time, you're already in place to defend the things that matter. You can repel the invaders before they land and save your buggy, ampersand-filled, code-riddled home.
Fight for what remains. Heal what's broken. You are all that stands in the way.

Even as Omen took out the rest of the Mini_C0D13s Manish curled in on himself and looked at the only partially standing jungle around him. Who knew how many pokemon were deleted because they werenât strong enough? Fast enough? He pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes and shuddered. Ryan came over and put a comforting vine on Manishâs shoulder and Cereal pressed his face into Manishâs chest. But he still couldnât rest. There was but a moment of quiet before new and improved Mini_C0D13s appeared. He sat back up on Ryanâs back and wiped at his face with his suit jacket. Maybe they could heal the jungle? He gave Cereal a squeeze before recalling him back to his ball and pulling out his last pokeball. With a flash, Narrator appeared. <You dare? You pathetic things think you are a challenge for the chosen one? For Manish? For the one who will free us all from our shackles and bring about the new age of prosperity? I am Manishâs smirking revenge and you will rue the day you made him sad.> Narrator gave a wink to Manish and for once, instead of feeling shame at his words, Manish felt emboldened. The âchosen oneâ stuff was still weird, but he knew that all his pokemon were there for him. Time to return the favor. âNarrator! The canopy needs a little help, use Hone Claws to fix up these plants.â The little fox jumped off of Ryan and took off. With a surprising amount of care, Narrator began pruning the nearby plants, cutting off the leaves that were starting to be deleted to stop the âinfectionâ from spreading and encouraging new growth. NARRATOR used HONE CLAWS (HEAL on THE CANOPY) âLucy! Protect as many pokemon as you can and use Quick Guard!â <You assholes think you can take out my jungle? My former home? I donât think so!> Lucy darted forward and blocked a Mini_C0D13 2.0 from going any further and responded with a solid thwack. She continued the process, blocking and returning as many attacks from Mini_C0D13 2.0s that she could. LUCY used QUICK GUARD (FAST ATTACK on MINI_C0D13 2.0) But still it wasnât enough. Manish watched in horror as the pokemon he built a shelter for were backed into a corner, Mini_C0D13 2.0 deleting them pixel by pixel. The little Bulbasaur, Treecko, and Turtwig gave a final pleading look to Manish before they vanished. Deleted. Gone. âNo!â he yelled, but the Mini_C0D13 2.0s didnât care. âYouâŚyouâŚyou fucking assholes! And I donât even care if you tell Mother that I swore!â All pokemon in the area gasped. <Woah> Ryan said in awe. âRyan.â<Yeah bud?> âItâs time.â <Oh heck yeah! Iâve been waiting for this!> Manish gave a pat to Ryanâs head before recalling him back into his pokeball. With a surprising amount of grace Manish landed on his feet and stared down a group of Mini_C0D13s in front of him. He gripped Ryanâs pokeball with both hands and the ball started to grow. And grow. And grow. Once the ball was larger than Manishâs head he turned around and threw the ball behind him. The sky darkened and in a red light. Ryan appeared. A giant Ryan appeared; landing on the ground and shaking everything around him from his sheer weight. He towered over the jungle. He was finally as big as he always knew he was destined to be. He was so glad that he finally forced Manish to read through the Battle Mechanics guide. âUse Bloom Doom!â Manish yelled as he stood tall, stretching his arms out to the sky. Ryan smirked in slow motion. The plants around him started to glow and emit particles of energy. The Canopy itself was giving Ryan power, was defending itself, was fighting off the virus that was trying to delete it. The energy gathered, concentrated onto Ryanâs bloom. Green light shot out of his bloom and into the sky. A wave of energy cascaded out from Ryan and Manish as thousands of mushrooms spread out around them and coated the jungle floor. There was a moment of silence before the green beam of energy came crashing back down and taking out a wave of Mini_C0D13 2.0s. GIGANTAMAX RYAN used BLOOM DOOM (CHARGE ATTACK on MINI_C0D13 2.0) C0D13 was going to have to pry The Canopy from Manishâs metaphorical hands. DICE ROLLS

The Gyarados end up grabbing Furrlicity's pokemon and using them as chew toys. He's pretty sure that his Treecko even makes a squeaky noise as he's Ice Fanged by the damned things. That clutch, mid-battle HP upgrade is the only thing that saves his Litten. Treecko, however, is not so lucky...
Not that it matters in the end. Before he even has a chance to call his pokemon back, the CSC obliterates them. Both his pokemon explode into data, fainted, and Furrlicity is left alone and vulnerable on the field.
On one side of him is a pack of angry fish. On the other, an NPC determined to take him to the shadow realm.
A pop-up appears before his eyes.
"YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE, COPPER!"
Then Furrlicity is in the Canopy. Which, still, he is defenseless. The Mini C0D13 make him wrinkle his nose as they buzz around like flies. One comes to close and he manages to snatch it out of the air. It starts to nibble on his hand in anger but his player model is just too complicated.
"You're pretty cute." This does not seem to make the Mini C0D13 very happy. He just pats it on the head and rubs down it's nose. "Shhhh, just accept your fate. Humans can pack bond with anything."
He tosses out three pokeballs, summoning his Sobble, Shinx, and brand new Espurr onto the field. Now he wouldn't be murdered in one hit!
"Okay, so I have no idea what in the hell is going on. I just want to heal people but Treecko and Litten are dead. Go unleash all the pent up anger I know the three of you have." Then he gently shoos them off so he can try and wrangle the Mini C0D13 V2 into that golden pokeball he has. It also is not very happy with this.
Sobble is MORE than happy to take out her hatred of the world on everything around her. She hops from what's left of the trees, sniping down any Mini C0D13 she sees with a Water Gun. At one point she jumps on a tree and it moves and-
< Uh! Holy crap! You're massive! > For a moment, her fury is quelled as she stares up at the gigantic form of Ryan.
Shinx and Espurr kind of look at each other and shrug. They, unlike Sobble, do not have a massive amount of rage and fury burning inside of their bodies. They do, however, want to assist in the battling.
It becomes a dual effort! Espurr uses his Confusion and psychic powers to help halt the Mini C0D13 while Shinx Bites any that she can get her teeth around. They explode in bits of pixels, making the Shinx spit out data and code. She makes the Cat No Banana Face because that's really funny to me.

It would seem that Unovr was not as stable as once believed.
The world was now at risk into falling into darkness, with the armies of oblivion marching against the trainers of resident island. If not stopped, all of existence would cease and the universe shall return to its primal state of nothingness. AKA, the programmers fucked up and now the game was about to break.
Boo fuckin' hoo, no skin off Buddy's nose. It was not as if he had a ton of investment in this mindless distraction, it was just another tool to kill time. He was fully content to just watch everything fall apart, laughing as the peons scrambled to save their precious virtual escape. He would have brought popcorn if it were available. Maybe he should just log out and watch a livestream, that way he could actually eat snacks.
However his stance as a spectator was not very peaceful. He kept getting these annoying popups begging for help. At first he freely ignored them, unmoved by their ridiculous attempts to pull his heartstrings and bring him to the fray. How pathetic could you be? The messages became harder and harder to ignore, appearing enmasse as hey begged for someone---anyone---to help. If no one had known any better, it would seem as if their lives were actually in danger. This game must really mean a lot to these people. Buddy found their pleading repulsive, and yet his brow began to twitch as the messages persisted. They really, really needed help. The sentimentality of these pleas sickened Buddy at first--but soon his stone heart began to crack.
Ugh, what a waste of time. Buddy brought up his menu to log off, his hand hovering over the exit button...

Within the canopy, a new player would step forward as the second wave approach. The clownish being seemed rather annoyed, and cried out as he threw a pokeball. "Damn you all and this bleeding heart of mine! Poppy let's get this over with!"
Poppy the Popplio appeared swiftly, its ignorant joy acting as a stark contrast to its master's grumpy expression. Buddy had made no investment into Poppy, as far as he was concerned Poppy was a pet--an accessory to his shenanigans. He had not considered actually using it for battle. Yet here he was, stepping up to throw down despite his weakness. The chuckle-fucks around him better appreciate his humiliation.
Buddy pointed toward the oncoming swarm and gave his order, "Now Poppy! Hit them with your almighty BUBBLE!"

Each bubble popped with very little impact, but Buddy acted as though he had just unleashed the world's most effective hyper beam. He laughed manically, raising his hands as he took in his very fake victory.
"Foolish interlopers! You are no match for our human wiles! Prepare yourself for an onslaught of unfathomable proportions! Poppy, BUBBLE!"
Popplio once again spat out a bunch of useless fucking bubbles, and Buddy cackled with fiendish glee. He was certain that his baseline Popplio would be contributing absolutely nothing to this effort, but at least he was here. Buddy was putting himself out there, trying to be a good member of the community in their time of dire need. He may not be remembered for his part in this, but at the very least he could lord his involvement over others.
Plus he was having fun, and that's really what mattered.

Honestly, the last thing they had been expecting when they'd gotten the game was to have to protect part of the island. If it wasn't just some weird glitch, it was a choice- but, at this point, it was absolutely just something going on with the game itself. But, right now, dealing with any of that was the least of their worries. They ignore the continued "are you fucking kidding me" look their Charmander has been giving them when he can them in favor of...
Trying to remember what moves he would use. Or just bullshitting their way through this, honestly. "Uh. Use Ember?" Xavier was pretty sure that was one of the moves- or that their Charmander would know what to do better than they did. Okay, so that had sort of worked. Mostly worked? They don't know, but it did something and honestly that's all that matters. The Charmander, at least, seems proud of itself, even if he's obviously also confused. Which...they don't blame him for, honestly- if nothing else, it could be some weird bonding moment later on. Maybe they were getting a little too caught up in this game already.
"Good job. Use...Dragon Rage?" That one was a little easier to remember, but just barely. This time, the Charmander doesn't actually pause; maybe he's getting a bit more used to dealing with this whole thing? He's doing a better job at it than Xavier themselves would be, anyways. Natsuki stepped out into the Canopy with all 3 of her PokĂŠmon out and by her side. As always... she had come in late as she gazed around the treeline as she spotted some unfamiliar faces in the distance as she ran over to assist with whatever they were quite obviously fighting. She didn't seem to care about talking much as she ran through the trees before being stopped by a swarm of oddly sized Codies."I thought I was coming here to fight a fish, what's going on here?" She asked herself with a shrug, looking down to her Trio of Pokemon at her feet as she felt like a battle was coming. "You three are ready to fight, right? I don't suppose anything here is going to go down easily... or it'll be over after we smash this swarm." Froakie seemed to have gotten it's hand stuck in it's own neck Bubbles, Cyndaquil was charring the ground, and Chespin was stomping on the burning grass as Natsuki tried to explain the 'plan'... and she just grumbled loudly and crouched down in front of the trio."If we do good here, you'll all eat whatever you want for an entire week-- so you all better do good!" Due to having captured most of her team not too long again she still struggled to hold control, but that offer seemed to pique all of their interest as she averted her gaze back to the swarm of Codies."Ruru, Use Bubble! Cyndaquil, Ember-- and Chespin shoot them with Pin Needles!"
