TUTORIAL MODE
find a partner and ease into rp with these four beginning scenarios!
Tutorial Modeis comprised of four Classic Pokemon Game Events you can choose to undertake with other players when first starting your journey. You may choose to do all, one, or none of these events and can come back to them at any time later in the game.
To experience a Tutorial, please start a new thread in this board responding to one of the four Tutorial Prompts below. If you don't have a RP partner lined up, just tag your thread asopenin the title. You can advertise your Open thread to other members here or on our Discord!TUTORIAL 001 - PUMPED-UP KICKS
You're about to leave on your Pokemon Journey—but you have no goddamn shoes! Unless you want to run through the tall grass barefoot for the rest of the game, return to MOM'S HOUSE (marked on your minimap in the starting town) and say goodbye to the woman who's raised you all your life!
MOM likes to tell long, convoluted stories about what it was like raising you as a single parent and seems to offer new, alarming details about what happened to your father every time. She will only give the players the RUNNING SHOES when they have completed learning their in-game backstory.TUTORIAL 002 - DELIVERY, SIGN HERE!
DR. BUNYA has to send a package to someone in the starting town. Good thing you're not busy! To help you find the right person, Bunya will mark the location of the recipient on your minimap.
There will be THREE OBSTACLES in your path to overcome before you may successfully deliver the package to its recipient. The contents of the package and its recipient are up to you!
The function of this tutorial is to teach you basic controls such as jumping, accessing your menu/user interface, and accurately using the minimap.TUTORIAL 003 - ...WHAT WAS HIS NAME AGAIN?
Cue the battle music, your RIVAL APPEARS! Players can have designed their own rivals during Character Creation, randomized, or simply selected the default. CHOOSE A NAME for your game rival. If you skip this tutorial, the default will always show up as "Your RIVAL." See this post for more information on how to design your custom Rival!
Unlike the games, the tutorial Rival Battle can be avoided if desired, but once encountered, your RIVAL will continue to pursue you throughout your experience on UNOVR until you battle them at least once.
NEW! You do not have to complete this thread with another player! In the interest of potential character development, you may do this tutorial as a solo thread!{OPTIONAL: MECHANICAL BATTLE}If you want to practice battling with site mechanics, the default RIVAL's stats are below:
If you are using a Custom or Classic Rival (modified team), it should be possible to slightly modify the examples below to be relevant to the new Pokemon.
CHIMCHAR: 150 HP (Tier 1 Sweeper, Rare)
- Attacks first on your post with [tangent=
- Fast Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 (Rare)
- Fast Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 (Rare)

Chimchar automatically loses [tangent=For each attack (or heal) a Pokemon makes on UNOVR, they lose -10 HP from strain/energy drain. UNOVR does not use PP, so HP is considered a combination of Health and PP. This stat represents your Pokemon's energy levels and ability to continue battling in addition to actual injuries.
For a Sweeper like Chimchar who attacks more than once, that means taking -10 strain multiple times (in this case, 2).]-20 HP[/tangent] from attacking after its turn.- Chimchar always uses a fire-type move. If this is supereffective vs your Pokemon, add another [tangent=Supereffective moves grant a +20 bonus per attack. Since Chimchar attacks twice, this adds up to +40.]+40[/tangent].
BLITZLE: 250 HP (Tier 1 Tank, Common)

For your own attacks, please use the following templates! These templates assume you are equipped at Tier 1 with HP, Attack/Heal, and Moves/Lvl.
- Your Pokemon may use any moves from its movepool up to Level 10. Serebii and Pokemon DB are both good resources.
- Your Pokemon may add a Rarity Bonus to each attack it makes. Please check this list to find out your Pokemon's Rarity!
- Your Pokemon may add an additional +20 Bonus per attack if the move it uses is Supereffective! This is only for attacks, not for healing.
- Check out the pages on Tank, Sweeper, and Support if you haven't already!

Everyone's favorite 'catching Pokemon' tutorial! The first time you try to enter the Tall Grass, C0D13 will interrupt you and any nearby players to deliver a helpful guide. If the players previously interacted with MOM, the PACKAGE RECIPIENT or YOUR RIVAL, one (or all) of them will shortly interrupt the players to demonstrate the appropriate technique for catching Pokemon.
After watching the entirely-too-long demonstration, the relevant NPC will give the players the GOLDEN POKEBALL, an infinitely reusable Pokeball which allows you to capture defeated wild Pokemon.
Optionally, you may generate a basic TUTORIAL SPAWN (includes Patrat, Lillipup, Purrloin, and Pidove) to practice your catching skills on! Please see below for instructions.{OPTIONAL: SPAWN A WILD POKEMON}
1. Create a new thread (or edit the first post of an old one), then click the [tangent=]ADD CREATURE[/tangent] button in the bottom right corner of the posting/editing window.
2. This will open a popup with one option and some general reminders. Click [tangent=]CREATURE GROUP![/tangent]
3. [tangent=]Another popup[/tangent] will appear prompting you for your current location. Since you are doing the Catching Tutorial, select 'CATCHINGTUTORIAL.'
4. [tangent=]Click 'ACCEPT.'[/tangent] The final popup has two options, which affect when the spawn will happen in your thread. We recommend leaving the default at '1' and '100%' if you want the Pokemon to appear right away!
5. There should now be a [tangent=]confirmation message[/tangent] displayed at the bottom of your screen! Double-check to make sure everything is correct. If you made a mistake, simply click 'EDIT CREATURE' to restart.
