SIDE QUEST: GUILD THE LILYProfessor Ash sits at her desk with the extra credit essays neatly divided in front of her. Each of the papers is covered in uniform, inch-wide circles where Ash has marked particularly salient points, or things that she considers noteworthy. Six piles. Six winners. Well, seven. Four if you're just counting individuals. Regardless. It is done. She composes a quick message. There is no need to mince words. The players arrive to find the lab layout drastically changed. Instead of a single chair sitting in front of Ash's desk there are now four identical seats. Ash gives the players a moment to mingle and discuss the new furnishings. "Congratulations," she says, taking four clear folders out from her desk. There is a tiny label on each, bearing their names. "You've all done exceptionally well in this year's educational pursuits. Two of you even achieved the highest rank possible!" She gives both Sarah and Orion a nod of respect. "orioncayge, you have consistently proven your interest in academia, and this is another wonderful addition to your long list of insights into the natural world." "You submitted four fantastic essays," Professor Ash says, as she hands him a clear folder of the marked papers. "Though I was particularly impressed by your Regions and Biology essays. Well done." His essays are covered in red circles which, despite wishful thinking, are not lipstick stains, though two of the essays do have a gold star on them. "Laguna. Your Pokedex entry was textbook, and your paper on Trivia was not only well-rounded, but completely uncontested." She hands Laguna the folder, which again has two papers marked with gold stars. As with Orion, Laguna is a known quantity. Dependable. Accurate. The right person for a mission of knowledge-seeking. "Sarah Lee," Ash says, handing back her essays. "three well written papers, though your entry on Battling almost crossed over into dissertation length." There is a slight pause. "It was comprehensive, and insightful, well done." Sarah's Battling essay has a gold star in the corner, as does her Biology essay. "In the end I couldn't pick between the two of you. It figures that it would be a tie between two of the valedictorians." She takes a moment to appraise Sarah. Unlike Orion and Laguna, who have become regulars in her lab, she had not truly noticed Sarah before now. Ash has seen her drop off Pokemon multiple times, and recently she asked specifically about catching more dragons, but there had been no relationship formed there. Nothing deep. That changed now. Ash picks up the final folder, which is labelled Morgana Queen Elizabeth Riddle. "Bergamot Gristleborg . I am sorry to hear about your uncle, though your appeal for academic leniency was hardly necessary. Your paper on statistics was quite singular. In a subject obsessed with minutia, you chose to step back and see the world as a whole. Not just that, but you stepped far enough back to take into account the ultimate in unpredictable factors, the potential will of an omnipotent creator." Ash hands her the folder. "To answer the questions posed directly to me in your paper: I am quite well, thank you for asking, and no, I am not religious." "I have spent my career studying myths and legends. Proof is the currency I trade in, and often times I must settle for half-remembered stories and faded paintings on stone tablets. I've collected every clipping, every account, and every rumor of legendary Pokemon that I can find, and yet Arceus remains completely unprovable." Her calm cracks, and a drop of annoyance clouds her usually crystalline cadence. "Miss Riddle, we have a litany of information at our disposal. Pokedex entries from numerous regions, all cross-referencing each other, provided by reputable sources, and usually catalogued alongside either a specimen or clear proof that one was encountered."
"But not for Arceus."
"In the case of what should be the easiest Pokemon in the world to prove the existence of, we instead find ourselves trying to catch shadows on the wall of a cave."
"So for now, I remain firmly agnostic." Ash sits down at her desk, a faint tiredness spread across her features. "Thankfully, your goal is not something as ephemeral as 'Proof of God'. Yes, as you may have intuited the real reason I have called you here is not to personally hand back your test results, or to congratulate you on your well written essays." She rests her hands on the desk, long fingers overlaid. "I would like to offer you a mission."

Orion had never been so giddy to be called into the teachers office before. This wasn't something unusual for him, he often found himself getting into all sorts of trouble as a young rapscallion in school. Fist fights with fuckbois, smoking in the bathroom with his cousin Eddie, getting caught fucking under the bleachers, you name it and he'd been called to the office for doing it. Yet here in the wonderful world of UNOVR, he wasn't a trouble maker, in fact he was quite the teachers pet. Coffee on her desk whenever he needed help understanding a subject, reports written about his adventures, the works. Of course, if his teachers back in school were as beautiful as Ash IRL perhaps things would have been different. Who's to say. All's that is to say that Orion had a grin ear to ear when the professor gave him top marks on two of his essays. He would be disappointed that he hadn't taken the crown on all four, but his opponents were tough it would seem. Laguna had been his rival so to speak in terms of cozying up to the professor. Not that he could recall ever really talking to her, but she was around enough for him to recognize her. Sarah Lee was someone he thought he knew, but again he'd never exchanged words with her, and at best he maybe recalled seeing Bergamot Gristleborg at the post CODIE asskicking barbeque, maybe. The whole thing was a blur. The more he thought about it, the more he realized he needed to be more social with some of the players on this site besides tormenting Lucky and vibing with his Bandanadito Bee. He would study her markings as she spoke, nodding along to indicate he was listening and giving that ever so needed listener feedback as he absorbed the feedback she had given his academic works. At this rate he might actually end up some sort of Poke Professor had this been the real world and not some wonderful fictitious land of make believe. Fucking reality, getting in the way, if only there was some way to get trapped in the game. Nah, that was the type of shit that only happened in cringey Isekai anime. Unfortunately life would go on, he would take the goggles off at some point and have to go about taking care of himself and making money. He would tuck his writing away when it seemed like the Professor was getting into the thick of her explanation, causing one of his eyebrows to raise curiously at her rant and then reassurance that she wasn't looking for proof of god. "I mean, you know me Prof. You ask for Proof of god and I'll be out there scouring the world to get you a blurry polaroid of him, mark my words. Enough Red Taurus and coffee and I'll make it happen. But if you have something else in mind, I'm down to take on whatever you've got for me."

Considering what an actual delinquent she had been all throughout the Back to School Event, it only made sense Morgana "Queen Elizabeth" Riddle was getting called into the office. She bore a smug smile as she sailed in the door to the Starter Lab, which was utterly unfamiliar to her. Unlike orioncayge, Laguna, and Sarah Lee, all of whom were dedicated researchers and adventurers who regularly brought Ash their findings, Bergamot preferred running around in the wilderness "being evil" and helping no one. Her eyes swept the room, which she vaguely remembered from the intro to the game. It was just as BORING as she remembered, filled with boring lab things like chairs and essays. "Hello, Professor," she said, tossing her long, chestnut-colored hair as she settled into one of the 'boring' chairs. "I take it my essay was noteworthy? Highly insightful? Do you perhaps have questions about the Animorphs?"She took the plastic folder from the silver-haired woman and glanced over the cover page. "Oh, the Statistics one," she said, disappointed that her Regions essay had failed to accrue any gold stars. No matter! "My uncle's fine, actually, I was just testing your capacity for empathy." She gave Ash a bright smile. "I wasn't speaking of just Arceus, necessarily. More of a... collective." The minds at GameFreak, to be exact, but Morgana didn't want to freak Ash's game mind. Who knew what someone might do if they realized their reality was manufactured? That the world and everything they knew was artificial? ...That they were just a pawn in someone else's plot, following along under the pretense of free will? "No matter. I'm sure we'll run into 'God' eventually." She showed her teeth. For a moment, she didn't look very nice, or even like someone pretending to be evil. She just looked... Like a different person. ... Morgana noticed Sarah Lee at that moment and changed the subject. "Oh, you're here too? That's strange. I thought you were a battler, not a writer."Morgana noticed orioncayge at that moment and changed the subject. "Oh, you're here too? That's strange. I thought you were a dancer, not a writer."Morgana noticed Laguna at that moment and changed the subject. "Oh, you're here too? That's strange. I thought you were a women's suffrage activist, not a writer."Morgana noticed C0D13:ProfessorAsh at that moment and changed the subject. "Oh, sorry, what did you say? Something about a mission?"

Being called into the lab, Laguna was admittedly quite curious. It didn't take long to figure out the reasoning for their summoning. The essays! Especially as Ash began to pull out the folders. Almost on instinct, she'd hold up a silent fist towards Sarah Lee to bump. After all, they were the only other person here they had more than a fleeting experience with. Congratulations were in order. Of course, she never could forget orioncayge . He was the guy who gave C0D13 a proper knuckle sandwich before that was even a thing. Power to him.
When handed back her own folder, marked with gold stars, Laguna can't help but laugh and grin widely. It felt good to be praised for her Pokedex entry, that was the one she was the most confident in. Trivia was kind of just won because nobody else bothered to make one, it seemed.
"Glad you enjoyed it, Professor. Oh, before I forget, I uh, made a second trip to the Everworld. As expected, I'll eventually write up another report for you. This time, it was my starter Pokemon you handed me. She's all fine, don't you worry." And with that, her grin would widen just a little bit. "Marina is looking better than ever."
From there, she'd remain quiet politely as she spoke to the others, only to tilt her head in total confusion as she responded to Bergamot Gristleborg . What kind of paper did she even write? How curious.
The topic of Arceus was touched upon in her paper, and she supposed it was interesting. They as players could prove Arceus, but in the world, there was nothing. An utterly strange predicament they found themselves in. In this world, they were exceptional trainers with potential endless experience, but they were bound by the game itself.
It took her a brief second to remember that Ash was not indeed another real person. It was just a game...
Sometimes, she almost wished she could forget that. It sure would be more fun discovering everything from scratch, like a proper trainer in a new region.
And then... the girl called her a suffrage activist, and Laguna immediately became super confused. "Uh, excuse you? What part of this-" She points to the magical girl attire and twirls a bit in place a bit to let the skirt floof up. "Screams activist to you?" The woman, Bergamot Gristleborg seemed... interesting. Testing Ash's capacity for empathy? She supposed the game would attract all kinds, especially those who might push the NPCs, but it didn't leave a very good taste in her mouth.
Regardless, the idea of a mission certainly intrigued her. "Well, whatever it is you got in mind, you can count on me to give it a shot, Professor. I've returned from the afterlife with my Pokemon twice now, I'd welcome another challenge." Preferably, one that hurt a whole lot less.
She still sometimes felt like her feet were frozen solid. Although, that might be from something else altogether...

"I am a battler. And I thought you were just a two-bit villain," Sarah retorted, calmly and professionally. "Thought it would appear that there is more in that skull than just the echoes of your own high-pitched laughter." Was that a compliment? Had she accidentally complimented Morgana? She sat back in her chair and turned away, trying to ignore the smug grin that was surely on Morgana's stupid face.
She's so infuriating! Sarah thought, tapping her foot as she waited for Ash to continue. Something about Morgana's unflappable confidence got under her skin. She was so hateable, and yet she possessed so many of the qualities that Sarah herself strove for. Eloquence. Uniqueness. And God that stage presence.
Sarah returned Laguna's fist bump. Speaking of battling, here was her partner in crime. The other half to their arena-smashing duo. "You two are regulars here?" Sarah asked Laguna and orioncayge, genuinely interested. She had thought that this area was just a quest hub, but to hear that the professor recognized the pair was curious. It sounded like Laguna had formed some sort of bond with the professor. Were the NPCs in this game that reactive?
"Oh I've been to the Everworld too," she added. "Big open forest full of trees and starving Pokemon, right? It was a a bit disturbing, seeing them all just walking around. They were almost like phantoms. Sorry to steal your thunder for the report, but I'm sure you'll still have a lot to talk about in the paper."

"Research. Insight. Dedication. Creativity." With each word, Professor Ash looks between orioncayge , Laguna , Sarah Lee , and Bergamot Gristleborg . "These are highly sought-after traits in the realm of academia. With that in mind, there's someone I'd like you to meet."
Ash brings up a Trainer Profile on her computer screen, which shows a refined older man with keen eyes and a marvelous silver mustache.
"His name is Cygnus. He's an old colleague of mine from my cryptozoology days— but where I was chasing after ghosts, he was chasing legends." She seems amused. "Cygnus is, in a word... extraordinary. There are few questions he cannot answer, and few puzzles he cannot solve. He wrote the book on exploring the unknown. Which is why, when he disappears—"
She stops, taking in a breath. She lets it out again. "—the circumstances must be equally extraordinary."
The Professor has learned to relax around the four of you, but she's no fool— she knows even a dedicated player will start mashing A trying to skip ahead in the dialogue eventually. She closes in on her point. "Originally, I sent Dr. Bunya to investigate on my behalf," she says. "We've been out of contact until recently, but during our last transmission, she requested backup. The best and brightest, she said."
Ash eyes the four of you, folding her hands in front of her on the desk. "I can imagine no one more fitting to rescue Cygnus than a group of essay finalists," she says, hiding a secret smile. "...If you still wish to accept, then I will prepare your transport."
FAST TRAVEL TO LOCATION?
> CONFIRM!
> DECLINE
LOADING: GUILD THE LILYyou have received a new quest! Salty mist blasts through the air, stinging where it peppers your skin.
You find yourselves on the edge of a high, steep line of cliffs, looking down at the swirling teal-gray waters below. Bird droppings have bleached the crags white, and ambient Wingull cries fill the air all around you. A switchback trail leads from your location down to the waterline, marked by a single signpost that says END OF THE LINE.
You're not immediately sure where you are, but checking your minimap shows you've been teleported to a location in the south of Asper, somewhere between the Surge Steppes and Birchwild Grove. The edge of both, or neither. One wrong step, and it's a sheer drop down to a watery grave.
Something else bobs among the rocks. Something white and large— large enough to fit several shipments of Starter Pokemon.
It's the missing Beta Ferry.
Someone has been repairing it.

As Professor Ash narrowed in on her point her every word drew Sarah's attention.
Legends. Extraordinary. Dr. Bunya. Rescue.
When the popup appeared Sarah lungeed for it, slamming her palm onto the button.
>Confirm There was a flash of a load screen and then she was on the cliffs, salt wind whipping the smell and sound of the sea up to her. "The beach?" Sarah asked, closing her eyes and letting the crash of waves take her home.
But the breeze was cold, not tropical. The cries of the birds mournful and hungry, and as she opened her skies her mental picture was shattered by the sight of the ugly grey waters and bird-soaked cliffs.
This wasn't Hawai'i. It wasn't even Beta Island.
But as she peered over the crumbling, break-neck cliff, she spotted a familiar hull. "There! The ferry!" It looked beat up, but better than it had during the raid, where she could have sworn Kyogre had torn it apart completely.
"Truman, Freedom!" she shouted. Not a call for revolution, or some corny campaign cheer, but the summoning of her Pokemon.
Freedom, the 6ft tall, saddled Steel tower, and Truman, the fuzzy purple bat.
"Saddle up everyone, and be careful down this path," Sarah said, climbing up onto Freedom's back. "Everything here looks deadly. Slick grass, loose shale." Freedom the Duraludon took his first steps down the switchback, crunching steadily through the hazards. "Truman. Go check out that boat!" The bat flapped on ahead, swooping down to make sure they weren't walking into an ambush.

Orion raised an eyebrow far before the professor had begun any of her explanations. His compatriots were...something to say the least. Morganna rattled off a list of...what he thought were insults, but if they were it was as if some poorly scripted AI had generated them based on...some strange feature association? He wasn't quite sure, still he had his own honor to defend, and while it would be easier to just ignore her, he couldn't help but stoop to her level and try and dunk on her. "What is dancing if not writing really good choreography? Can a homie with moves not also move a pen in such a rad manner that his words are fly enough to get top marks?" He would observe the other two's reaction to her cajoling to get a feel for how they were as people, and neither disappointed. Laguna made a show of twirling her pleated skirt causing it to poof up, which certainly was... something to behold. Eye contact Rion, Eye Contact. Last thing he needed was to be checking out other women in front of the professor. Turning his gaze to Sarah, it seemed she knew Morgana, which was quite the interesting developement. Antagonism in the team could sour their results, something to keep an eye on perhaps. "Yeah, Me and Blue here are the closest things to certified assistants without actually being uh...certified."With that all out of the way, he would make sure to focus on building a bond with them after he knew what the proffessor wanted, and she was not one to Gild the Lilly, getting straight to the point hammering out what she needed and how she wanted it done. "Aight, bet. Be back later with my findings Boss."Orion hit the accept button so fast he wasn't sure if the others had even registered his hand moving. The whole thing left a lot of questions in his head, but not so much about what they were doing but more in how the in game logic handled what the professor had just done. Clearly this was a quest, some sort of scripted event set to follow certain parameters based on the results of the whole weird school arc. But given how organic and natural the professor acted, he'd assumed she had some semblance of free will and what not. So how did she rationalize just sending them on a teleportation trip to...wherever the fuck they were? Either she was an incredibly intricately coded AI of some sorts, with all sorts of parameters to react and change based on thousands of stimuli, but still just a construct or...something more? That wasn't even getting into Mom and her...momness. Something was afoot, and Orion was going to sniff it out, even if it meant breaking into Hydance HQ to figure it out. Either way, for now Orion would be satisfied by asking the Professor about it late and resolved himself to the task at hand. He would watch as Sarah summoned her mon and nodded, following in her footsetps. "Argus! Zeus!" The balls would flash and a Yanma and Blitzle would emerge. The Yanma hovered midair, staring blankly at it's master, but the Blitzel would snort and glare at Orion. "For Eons I have slumbered in that prison." "You were in there for like, a week maybe." "Eons, what do you call upon me for." "We're riding down the trail?" "Riding? Riding what?" "You."The Zebra like creature flared it's nostrils as Orion equipped the saddle to it. " You dare seek to bridle me! I am the rage of the-" the creature was silenced as he placed the bit in it's whinnying mouth. "You're a member of the team, not some alpha asskicker of the Steppes. Play nice and we'll get you some of those treats you like.""I find theseth terms astheptible." The Zebra managed to slur, chomping on the bit slightly. Orion would step up into one of the stirrups and swing his leg over, easily mounting the small pony like creature, turning to the Yanma he would raise an eyebrow as the bug hovered over him slowly. "Argus?" "Awaiting Orders." "Sweep the area for any nearby threats, be on guard we don't know what will be around here." "Acknowledged. Activating Area Sweep Protocol."With that the bug flit off into the distance, and Orion would nudge his pony forward and look back to the others to see how they were faring.

"I have the perfect retort prepared for all of you," Bergamot announced, arriving on location. Back at the Lab, everyone she'd called out had been sure to give her a piece of their minds, but Professor Ash had rudely interrupted with all sorts of exposition before Morgana could deliver a response. "And it is that any relationship with fellow academics is best started out on the wrong foot."
To demonstrate, she stepped forward and promptly fell off the side of the cliff.
She would have liked to say she laughed all the way down, but it was more like a short scream and the 'eef, oof' sounds of someone rolling down a slope at high speeds. Fortunately, she was sound enough of mind to send out a large Pokemon to cushion her fall before actually plunging into the waters below.
"Rainbow!"
The Gyarados roared as it materialized in the water beside the ferry, tiny eyes blinking as it cast around for the source of the voice. Its whiskers fanned in alarm as the light dawned and it finally looked up. Bergamot fell directly towards its gaping jaws with her arms and legs spread wide like a skydiver, vanishing inside the creature's mouth.
It was like a magic trick. The Gyarados shut its mouth, swam towards the cliffline, then gently deposited a drooly, windswept Morgana on the shore.
Her companions would find her waiting at the bottom of the switchback trail, dabbing at a large cut across her forehead and gingerly picking little rocks out of her scrapes and scratches. "Oh, so you finally caught up," she said woozily, flashing a smile over her shoulder. Rainbow rested its head on the surface of the water nearby, blowing bored-looking bubbles. One popped as it rolled its eyes at the party. "Let's get on this ferry already, I can practically taste Beta Island. Tropical, naturally."

"You bet it, Sarah! I've helped Ash with a few studies here and there! Even wrote a report on Beta Island for 'em!"
Sarah Lee had also been to the Everworld? There was no doubt she'd be asking her about it later! After all, she had to collect all the possible data for the Professor! Just what kind of trials had other people encountered? Were they just as dangerous as her own? Or was her trials somehow linked to who she was, and how she needed to change?
It was strange, admittedly. Thinking of these trials as some kind of test from some all-knowing being, a deity of some kind. How did Hydance program all that anyways?
Her thoughts suddenly snapped back to reality as the Professor began to talk about the quest she had in mind for them. Cygnus, an old friend who chased after legends. Definitely sounded like someone she wanted to meet, perhaps he'd have some insight into the Everworld.
"You got it doc, we'll track them down." She grinned widely, glancing at her fellow assistants before teleporting away.
The first thing she smelled was the sea. That salty breeze hit her like a freight train and the view positively stunned her. Was it the prettiest cliff ever? Probably not. But the waters were just as terrifying and beautiful as it should have been. Especially since her Trial of Clay, she was going to be extra respectful of the dangers rushing water could bring.
Someone shouted about the ferry, and sure enough, her eyes suddenly narrowed on it. Bingo! Their destination was at hand!
Of course, as Morgana began her speech about somehow academics being enemies was a good thing, she fell off the cliff and immediately Laguna laughed hysterically.
Talk about starting out on the wrong foot.
Laguna giggled to herself as she summoned Roxy, the absolutely massive Onix standing tall and proud with a rather adorable little bow tied to their horn. The stone snake coiled its body around, instinctively lowering itself down so their trainer could climb aboard. She hopped up, patting their head affectionately. "That's a girl, I'm sure your momma Roxanne would be proud. Come on dear, let's make our way down the cliff. Nice and easy."
The giant rock snake might not have been a gentle ride, but she definitely knew what she was doing. Her serpentine body slithered down the edge of the cliff with all the grace a 29-foot solid stone snake could.

As the four of you reach the ferry, the scale of its repairs becomes abundantly clear. PVC piping and duct tape plaster both sides of the boat, masking giant cracks in its hull. Welded glass bottles siphon colorful fluids as part of a bizarre steering mechanism while captive Klink whir and turn in pursuit of unknown purpose. It's the kind of mad skill that only a mad scientist—or maybe two—could have come up with.
"There you guys nyare!"
A black bob cut you haven't seen since the High Tide Raid pops out of a porthole. Pale sunlight glints off her monocle. It's System Admin:Bunyaa in the flesh.
"I woulda had this thing done weeks nyago if that rat Cygnus hadn't split!" the supposed catgirl complains, beckoning you aboard. She squints at Sarah Lee , who she definitely knows, but she affects catlike indifference and continues. "He harvested half the ship for parts before he left! Took the radio, took the mini-fridge, even took the meowcrowave! Nyeeh. At least Ashie sentcha to help mee-owt."
Clearly Bunya hasn't been told the purpose of your mission.
The deck groans as the four of you and your heavy mounts set foot on board and Bunya skitters like a cat to avoid weak places in the floorboards. "Watch your step..."
The bowels of the remodeled Beta Ferry are even stranger than their exterior. Half litterbox, half laboratory, you find yourselves stepping between sheets of schematics and curious clockwork artifacts. The walls are covered with scribbles and notes, as if whoever was staying here had so many ideas they couldn't keep them all on paper.
"So anyway— nyow I'm gonna needja to get rowing!" Bunya says obliviously, straightening up with her arms full of oars. Her eyes shine gleefully. Yes, she's serious. "The engine's shot, but we gotta get out to sea somehow! Nyeh-heh-heh!"
As she attempts to pressure the four of you into becoming her boat-slaves, a series of small impacts hit the patchwork hull beneath you. Imprints of teeth appear in the duct tape, chewing furiously. "Oh, shit!" Bunya says, dropping the oars with a clatter. "Carvanha! Meow'd they find us?!" She looks around and spies Bergamot Gristleborg , who's covered in blood. "It's you!"
The seal breaks, and live, terrier-sized piranhas begin to spray in through the fresh opening as Bunya rushes to repair it.

"Doctor Bunya, was it?" the wounded Morgana asked, following the catgirl into the bowels of the ship. Bergamot had never bothered catching any starter Pokemon for the pint-sized professor during beta, but she still knew the monocled mini-meow on sight. During her stint recruiting for Team Rocket in Base Camp she'd seen Bunya snoozing at her folding table almost every day. "This man... this mystery... this 'Cygnus'... Did you say he's gone?" Her tone was innocent enough, if innocent meant 'sinister' and sinister meant 'not that sinister.' The innards of the ferry were full of generic Crazy Scientist equipment. Bergamot examined one of the walls, trying to read the notes scribbled across the plaster. She traced over one of them with a finger, leaving a streak of blood behind. "Curious..."But alas, curiosity, as they say, killed the catgirl. "Me?" Bergamot demanded indignantly, dodging skillfully behind Bunya as Carvanha began to spray from the hole in the hull. Then she stopped to consider. Her eyes grew wicked. "Yes... me. So you've finally caught on," she said with false triumph, standing up to address her fellow companions. "'Twas I who led you here, where you could not possibly escape!
"'Twas I who gave you an A on your essay assignments!
"'Twas I who— ow eeh ooh ow, God, what the— ow!"Carvanha began to chew on her player model and the villainess blanched as one latched boldly onto her forearm. "Oh my god, get them off."She hurled a Pokemon left-handed, cursing the fact that she'd left Rainbow outside. Her starter Pokemon materialized in a burst of light, looking perturbed at the sight of its mistress covered in gnawing fish. "Guillotine! Remove these pesky parasites immediately!"{CARVANHA 0/200 HP - DEFEATED} GUILLOTINE - PIPLUP (SWEEPER) 200/250 HP (-50) Charm luhnztdSd20d20d20d20d20+ 50 (Rarity x5) + 25 (Swimmer T2 x5) + 100 (Supereffective x5) "What are you, a pacifist? Get them off," Bergamot ordered, feeling lightheaded from blood loss as her Piplup attempted to do damage control. Rather than laying into the fish with her beak and flippers, the penguin seemed to be laying on the charm. Deeply flattered, the piranhas loosened their grip on Morgana and began to flop harmlessly around the hull instead, upsetting stacks of blueprints and generally making a nuisance of themselves. "...I'm just going to sit down for a second," the villainess said, wobbling over to a small cot in the corner covered in cat fur. "Unless I... have another plan..."She sat down anyway, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. As a realistic player she experienced actual pain from incidents like this. Sometimes it was hard to remind herself that she'd chosen this. A life beyond anything I could experience in the real world... this is what it feels like to live, isn't it? Not just being alive. Not just not-dying. Pain. Confusion. Problem-solving. Messy solutions. Blood, fish bites, and all. d20·d20·d20·d20·d20

Sarah watched as the Carvanah chewed on Bergamot Gristleborg. Her distress seemed legitimate, but it was impossible to tell if coming to her rescue would just be playing into her hands once again.
And Sarah hated playing into her hands.
"Stop being melodramatic," she said, waving dismissively as Morgana battled the ravenous fish. Sarah picked up a stack of blueprints, which were now more mauveprints thanks to the spreading stains of 'blood' that were being left behind by a certain sinister villain. "And stop leaving blood everywhere!"
The plans were insane. Brilliant, really. To reroute all the engine power through the Klink in order to maximize paddle power? At least, that's what Sarah could glean from the annotated diagrams. She took one of the paddles from Bunya. "I know exactly where to stick this," she said, and in short order attached it to one of the Klink, creating a makeshift crank.
Freedom's steely claws clamped down on the crank, and he began to row, completing a crunching, grinding circuit that made the engine scream bloody murder. "I see. Well, some more work may be required, but at least we won't have to paddle."
"Tell me, Bunya. Exactly why did Cygnus rob you?" She turned the blueprint up the right way, reattached the crank, and Freedom tried again, with milder screeching. "What could be more important than getting the ferry back up and running?"

And there was Bunya! She had almost forgotten how they had looked. Or, had she ever actually met them? She only briefly remembered them being around during the High Tide Raid, she hadn't been playing too long beforehand. Still, what was with that monocle? Did they have just only one bad eye? Was it just fashion?
Regardless, it seemed like there was no time to wait! The Carvanha that had attacked Morgana were pacified for now, but that didn't mean more wouldn't show up to gnaw on that bloody annoying wannabe villain here in a few minutes.
And there was no way she was rowing by hand. Screw that. All the clockwork artifacts and papers and scribbles were definitely interesting, but there wasn't really time to sit and stop and make idle chit-chat about them.
Stopping at the edge of the boat, her Onix had curled up in confusion about how it was supposed to fit on board. It wouldn't exactly leave much room for everyone else, and the poor girl seemed ever conscious about their size. Despite their visible confusion, eyeing the deck quite cautiously, Laguna spoke up. "Roxy! Can you swim?"
The lumbering giant of a snake blinked, shaking itself from its thoughts as they slowly nodded their head. "Great! Get your metaphorical motor going, we're going to push this into overdrive!" The boat was already in rough shape, it would have to withstand this for now until they reached their destination. "Everyone, grab onto something! This might be rough!"
The Onix's head pushed against the back of the boat, shuddering as it attempted to send the ferry further out into the water. With a sudden Rock Polish, their stones looked so smooth for a moment that water practically glided off of them! Intent to swim like any snake would and push the boat with every single inch of its massive frame.
Gripping onto the side of the ferry itself, Laguna shouted over to Bunya. "Wherever Cygnus went, we'll find him! Everyone else, steel yourselves! Roxy has us in for the ride of our lives!"

A lot happened very quickly, between fish fights and makeshift mechanical modifications, to the literally definition of brute forcing the problem. For one of the few times in his life, Orion found himself frozen in place for a moment, but that moment was long enough to leave him with his metaphorical dick in his hands as all the work got done in seemingly a few seconds. The weird otome villain (Bergamot Gristleborg ) had dispatched the fish with ease, but she looked wobbly on her feet. Sarah Lee had created some sort of modification to work the boat, which had been immediately made moot by Laguna and her rock snake. Too much at once, he wasn't sure if he was lagging or just in shock. Certainly it had to be the former, right?
Either way he would get to work doing what he could. Three balls left his hand at once, two commands were barked in sequence.
"Achilles, Loki, crank that shaft and give our friend some help moving this bucket of bolts." "ON IT!"
"Arachnae, I spy some booboos that need kissing." "ON IT!"
The Heel type pokemon Achilles went for the crank, firmly grasping it as the Shitheel Loki the Hisuian Sneasel followed suit. With a grunt they both began to work it jerking the ship to life and aiding Roxy in her herculean effort to move this ship. Arachnae would skitter alongside Orion's striding feet as he closed the gap between him and Morgana who was woozily resting on a cot. Undoing both his sick bandanna, his backup bandanna, and his incase of extra emergency third bandanna, and went to work. "Hold still, and if you're on realistic you might wanna fiddle with your settings cause this is gonna sting like a motherfucker." Lowering the third bandanna down to his companion, he would wait for her to spibble up some pure bug water onto it and then bring it up to begin carefully dabbing at the wounds. Arachnae would skitter up his leg, hop into her lap, and get to work gently applying buggy kisses and healing her booboos as well through...weird healer game logic.
He would leave the third degree of the lab assistant to the professionals, and if he heard anything work jumping in on he would.
