Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

A video feed from ~~Professor Ash~~ shows you all the same, quick clip. The feed is grainy and warped. It makes her model seem to twitch and twist as if mangled, but she just keeps the same serious face you all expect. The background appears to be some half lit, wooden area. It's hard to make out. "Greetings. As some of the strongest Trainers in Unovr and trusted allies, I have an important favor to ask of you. I am assigning you with a secret mission. For more details, I will need you to meet me here. It is of utmost importance you do not mention this mission to anyone. Good day." A point is added to your maps and a countdown timer on when to show up is given. The area is in the Birchwild, deeper than most players dare to go. A massive weeping willow stands at the edge of a clearing, the bark charred and oozing along the edges. It seems to radiate heat. At the base is a ring of toxic looking mushrooms. The professor is not here. In fact, other than the four of you no one is here. Yet a quest marker still pops up. Oddly enough, it seems to be inside of the tree. Welcome, welcome! Devour the Heart is a survival-horror based Scenario! It will feature some very basic combat as well as resource management while you work to uncover the story! The story will be broken up into three sections! This first set of posts are part of Section 0: Tutorial. Aside from IC objectives, your main goal is to keep your Trainer and their Pokemon alive as long as possible! If you lose a pokemon, you will lose valuable resources. If your player's HP falls to 0, your character will lose the Scenario and will no longer be able to continue! In each mod post, there will be puzzles for you to complete in the Discord! Feel free to work together on these! Solving puzzles will unlock new interactions IC for your characters and may open up new paths to explore! 1-3 prompts will also be given to you at the bottom of each post. You may occasionally unlock new ones with puzzles! These prompts are optional. Next post will include a small Combat tutorial. Then I'm unleashing hell. Good luck! He shakes his head as the grainy, twitching image of Professor Ash fades from his screen and his game slowly fades back in the sounds of the Surging Steppes. Yet curiosity kills the cat, and Finn was named after a certain feline, so what could he do but indulge? He fast travels to the Birchwild and follows the QUEST MARKER until he's faced with a weeping willow whose bark lends truth to the name. PROFESSOR ASH isn't here; he's not surprised in the least. It had seemed rather out of character for her to forbid them to mention the quest. "So, why's everyone think we're here?" He's cheerful in the fact of the creepy tree and the intimidating ring of mushrooms. "You think Ash ate some of these mushrooms and decided to kill us all? Ooh, or maybe it's some mysterious hacker." He wiggles his gloved fingers for dramatic effect. He offers a particularly broad grin to Sarah Lee; it's been a while since he's seen his fellow power-gamer in action outside of raids. This wasn't a raid, right? If it was, surely someone like manish would be here as well. Shame he isn't, really. It might help their chances. "Probably a bad idea to step inside the circle, huh?" Naturally, he follows up this assumption by doing just that.

"Ohohohoho!" she said as she arrived, descending in a Fast Travel beam made less magnificent by the fact that she was seated smugly on a Nosepass. The big nose made it hard for her to sit straight-on, so it was with a sidesaddle posture that she faced her new party members. "I received a special invite! Due to my brilliant essay-writing skills, I imagine. Why are you here?" she addressed the last to Sarah Lee, resting her chin on both folded hands. Her big, aquamarificent eyes gleamed with false sincerity. "I was expecting Laguna and orioncayge at the very least. They certainly seem to have our professor in their back pocket. Or is it the other way around?" She slid down from her Nosepass, who said <HONK> and shuddered to a halt. "Hello, Tuesday. Is it a Tuesday already, I wonder?" she asked, tipping her head to the side. "And you too, Finnegan Fjord." Bergamot had never interacted with Finn in any meaningful way, so this was deliberately creepy. But deliberate creepiness took a sideline to deliberate setup. As Morgana looked around the clearing, she saw no one there but the four of them. That, and the strange tree with its decorous ring of mushrooms, pulsing with heat like a concealed forge. No instructions. No answers. No Ash. Only ~~Willow.~~ "Marvelous," Bergamot said softly, then stepped into the narrow fairy ring, toe-to-toe with Finnegan Fjord. She had to tilt her head to meet his eyes, far too close, far too strange. The warmth from the nearby bark struck her in waves like repressed body heat and she felt sweat trickle down her forehead. "The quest marker's here," the young woman said, raising her voice slightly. She didn't break eye contact with Finn. "Why don't you all come inside?" What was the worst that could happen?

Sarah asked Bergamot Gristleborg. "Maybe Professor Ash just wanted someone along as bait." Loud, flamboyant, lauighing. There was something eminently devourable about Morgana's presence. Even in a room full of Kindlers, she shone brighter than everyone else, drawing all eyes (and hopefully the teeth that followed). Sarah looked at the assembled trainers. There were some people missing. The usual suspects, you might say. "Where's orioncayge? Where's Laguna?" Hell, where was Furrlicity Purrfection? There were some very strong trainers in UNOVR, and she counted herself easily in the top three. But there was one that undoubtedly ranked above even her. "Where's manish? He should be here. He always seems to find himself in the middle of things." Not just but, that he tended to survive them too. A noteworthy trait. The assembled group was nothing to sneeze at. Tuesday and Finnegan Fjord were staples. Known battlers that could hold their own. Even Morgana was a specialist in her own right, and having that much healing close at hand steeled Sarah's confidence. They would easily handle anything that this creepy tree- At that moment Morgana stepped into the fairy ring. Sarah frowned, but kept her mouth shut. Bait is as bait does, she thought to herself. "The quest marker's here. Why don't you all come inside?" Bergamot offered, and after waiting a moment to make sure that the tree didn't grow arms or tentacles or something, Sarah took a step forward, joining her in the ring and offering her some kind words of encouragement. "Gladly, Bergamot. Good work! Trust you to find the way forward so swiftly."
