Tiernan gave Alistair a smile, listening fondly as the young man explained things to his pokemon. “A grim name indeed- but one that suits her. Rae'shalare is a weapon my friend wields, one she’s used many times to keep me safe. I see that same drive and tenacity here.“ He said, reaching to pet the little vulpix’s head, her eyes closing.
“A quest?” Tiernan gave that some thought. Such a thing certainly wasn’t going to agree with him- “Alright. I’m curious to see this night parade, too.” Rae gave a little nod, hopping down from her perch into the sand, trotting forward a little ways before glancing back, to the men. Tiernan laughed, fondly.
“Alistair Fireblood…” Tiernan mused, following gently after the little fox. “Now that is a grim name- and a reputation to uphold. Are you quite certain you want to wear it?” It was a gentle question. The Fire-Bloods were a particular people, ones with a stark personality. It wasn’t something that could be easily claimed by an outsider. He had the look for it, to be sure- but did he have the heart?
There, looming in the distance ahead, appearing from the darkness as specters, were the creatures of the parade. Massive walking buildings, drifting jellyfish, indescribable shapes. Most carried things, some holding the bodies of pokemon, corruption and ichor leaking from them. They marched, as one, into the horizon, as if coaxing the ‘dorei to follow.

Tiernan glanced over when Rae’shalare barked, eye falling on a young man, a lizard nearly invisible underneath robes (save for the bright white-blue of his feet), a bird boldly on his shoulder. And that hair- A bright, fiery red that instantly took him back to memories of forests and fields, of running around with others in the corps-
Of a keen-eyed, sharp-tongued woman who got along far too well with the Ranger in charge.
The vuplix nudged his arm, and Tiernan moved to pet her head. “It’s alright, Rae. He’s a friend.” He soothed, getting down from his spot as Alistair approached. “It’s still evening, I think- Well met. I’m Tiernan, and this is Rae’shalare.” He introduced, smiling gently.
The vulpix only stared, at Alistair, at the pidove, at the scuffling cloth hiding Falas.

Tiernan sat atop a ruined retaining wall, looking over the dark sky and desert. It was late- late enough to drag into early- and he was here, in the game. Looking over a sky that didn't exist, feeling the push of a breeze that wasn't real. It was reckless- He had work in the morning, and a day packed full of meetings- He was going to hate himself for this, when coffee refused to cut it.
Rae'shalare sat at his side, watching the stars, ears pricking at the scuff of sand, the groaning of distant buildings. Tiernan sighed, softly, resting a hand on the vulpix's back. He liked watching the stars- it was something he did often, at home- memories of laying in grassy fields, watching the sky as it shifted from twilight to night.
Tiernan closed his eyes- for an instant, being transported back to youthful, more peaceful days. Rae watched him, a moment- only straightening and giving a soft bark at the approach of footsteps, tails swishing gently.

The rufflet was flagging. His feathers were ragged, and both Fal'inrush and Rae'shalare were breathing hard. The battle was nearly at an end- Tiernan could see that clearly. But maybe...
Tiernan stepped forward, crouching in the stormy grass. "Hey," He coaxed, voice low and soft. "Aren't you tired? Let me give you food, and shelter. Let yourself rest. There's no need to fiht anymore."

Flames licked the rufflet, the bird screeching and buffetting its wings. Fal'inrush shook himself, beeping furiously. Failure here was not an option- he would not lose in front of his trainer, and he would not lose to another bird.
With a hiss, he launched himself at the rufflet again. Tiernan simply watched, frowning. Was Fal'inrush pushing himself too hard? Was he pushing Fal'inrush too hard? Perhaps going smewhere more peaceful after this would be in order...

Tiernan made his way, now not to some great shrine, or a place without- but a collection of little tents. He made his way to one of the cots, helping his pokemon up. It was easy enough to make simple conversation with the nurse, Rae'shalare’s fur brushed gently away from wounds, Fal’inrush gently fed healing berries. Hopefully, in the future, things would go a bit easier.

The attack finally hit- leaves striking the smaller pokemon squarely, the rufflet tumbling from the top of the spire. The pokemon twisted as it fell, wings catching the stormy air, slashing at Fal’inrush. The rowlet cried out, trying to get away.
“Now, Rae-” Tiernan urged, the vulpix breathing flames at the rufflet, now that it was close enough.

“Another leafage, Fal’inrush,” Tiernan called, the rowlet fluttering up, steeling himself. Rae’shalare kept close to his boots, eyes wide, just watching the high-up rufflet.
Fal’inrush narrowed his eyes, screeching as he shot out a whirlwind of leaves, trying to knock the creature down.

Tiernan looked around the cabin with wonder- the earthen tones, the smell of wood- and the curious array of pokemon everywhere. Some were doing simple workouts, others assisting with more complex things.
There was one pokemon that stood out, though, a spot of pink against the browns and blues- though Tiernan could only glance at them before someone ziplined into the room, a rush of kinetic energy.
“No, you’re quite alright,” He said, trying to dismiss any worries. An… alco-mergency up at the jacuzzi. That certainly sounded like… something. “I… was wondering if I could take in that pokemon?” He said, gesturing to the lonely little tinkatink, proffering up two pokeballs in exchange. Not that either… fit the vibe of the place much better.

Tiernan looked over the twin guardians outside the park. They seemed... violently opposed in demeanor, one tall and reagal, and the other... a hound. What they asked was reasonable- dogs who wanted balls. A request, hopefully, he could complete.
Tiernan moved into the park itself, and found not tennis balls- but small pokemon, gentle orbs on their own. Most of the other players were attempting to fight, or corral, the pokemon. That… he could understand it, but it didn’t seem quite right.
Thankfully, the request that popped up on his screen didn’t involve attacking any of the creatures. It asked… for healing. And that, at least, he could do, calling forth Fal’inrush.

Tiernan sat, at the edge of the Shrine. His pokemon sat beside him, tired. Rae's eyes were closed. He gently stroked Fal'inrush's feathers, letting the quiet of the Shrine wash over them. "I'll do better about protecting you in the future." He promised, voice soft. But how was he to do that? Was the fighting not their natural drive?
How was he to interfere with that? Should he?

Tiernan winced, seeing the attacks meld- and the pokemon swoop free, utterly unharmed. "It's alright," He said, trying to soothe his pokemon. It was not their fault- Any fault lay only with himself. Fal'inrush seemed to wilt, a bit, regardless. "It's okay." Tiernan said, calming his voice further. "We'll just try again."

He heard it, before he saw it- the flutter of feather and wing. Tiernan threw out an arm, his team pausing in their tracks as the rufflet descended, perching atop one of the great spines to regard them, expression impassive. "Beautiful," He murmured, looking up at the pokemon. A powerful addition to his team- one he couldn't reach.
"Mm." He glanced down at his pokemon- the little vulpix who had paused mid-step, one paw still hovering in the air. His rowlet, hunched against his shoulder. "Fal'inrush, use leafage- Rae'shalare, use ember before the leaves are sent out." Both pokemon seemed to understand, moving a bit towards the rufflet to prepare their attacks. Hopefully this would coax the creature down... in one manner or another.

Tiernan followed after Rae, languid and lazy- this was the safest part of the area, save for the settlement itself, so he wasn't terribly concerned with her getting into trouble. That changed as the sounds of battle reached him- owl chattering and the hiss of leaves slicing through wind. He paused when he caught sight of them- and the other trainer, equally quiet, standing at the other end of the battle. The figure offered a wave, which Tiernan returned- spooking anyone would do no good, now.
Rae'shalare did not say anything to Nim, only hissed quietly at the deerling, tails lashing with thought as she worked the air in her mouth, spitting little sparks of flame towards the deerling. It is not Nim's own elegance- but, thankfully, neither is it Fern's battling style, either.
