And sure enough, there they were! Or at least, she presumed the other person carrying a box was on the same quest as she was.
There wasn't really much other reason to carry a box around here, was there? Maybe just someone transporting something entirely unrelated, but given how they were approaching her too, wondering about any other potential answers just seemed silly. She smiled rather widely at first, ready to greet the possibly new player before Laguna noticed they just had the most, grumpiest look on their face, not even bothering to speak or even say hello! How rude. Were they sick of tutorials already?
Instead, she just laughed in response, rolling her eyes slowly. "Oh come on, the tutorial isn't that bad, is it?"
Then again, she looked down at her ooze-filled box and shuddered a bit.
"I take it you're new, huh?" She'd ask, just casually twisting on her heels and kicking forwards. All of a sudden, she'd slowly glide almost frictionless across the ground as if she was skating, snowflake particles in her wake. Her Freezer subclass abelites being extremely handy for quick travel. Might as well 'walk' and talk, she supposed.
"Oh, don't worry. I'll help make this quick. This quest is supposed to like, teach you how to move, use the map, all that boring stuff. But Briarbane has a few shortcuts we can take, and some cool places along the way. But if you're really content to being ol' grumpy and mute, whatever, but you're missing out."

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png Dinner, sightseeing, and a dance?
It sounded like a date. And in any other context, she wouldn't hesitate to believe it. But as it was, she struggled to do so. She hadn't even considered the idea of trying to actually go on a date in years. Not to mention, any of the guys or girls she used to be interested in back in school, all but pretended she stopped existing once the accident happened.
To see him suddenly become so casual about the whole thing, to actually seem interested in what certainly sounded like a date, Abby couldn't deny how her heart seemed to beat a little faster. It was a nice boost to her self-confidence to be sure. It was a lot to take in all at once and it left her just staring blankly, cheeks burning for a short time before finally speaking again.
"I- Uhh, not really!" She spoke a little loudly, trying to calm herself down with a few deep breaths, clearly flustered. Her natural accent seemed to be slowly seeping back in as she spoke. "I mean, I just moved here recently, like two months before the con. But, I'm sure we can find something! I, umm, don't usually eat out much. I'm usually just ordering in, too busy with UNOVR, hah."
Although San Francisco was certainly leagues better about accessibility for her and her wheelchair than her hometown, it still felt awkward just going out. The looks from others was still hard getting used to.
"... When uh, were you thinking? Now? Or, umm, perhaps meet later? Like, if you're going to be in town for a while, then maybe we can, figure out something?" Quite honestly, she surely hoped to have a moment to collect herself.
Perhaps she might even put on that cute dress she owned.

Odile? She'd have to remember that! She'd quickly use her UI to send a friend quest to the other trainer, grinning widely back as the Paras was now added to her inventory.
"Of course!" With a quiet laugh, Laguna picked up the sign and began to erase it, no longer needing it to say Venipede anyways. "Honestly? I collect a lot of different Pokemon! Mostly Ice-Types, though! So if you find anything interesting, I'd love to take a look!" She'd sprinkle her hands in the air, cute little snowflakes raining around her with a smug grin.
"I'll see you some other time! Here's hoping I catch you in an event or dungeon in the future!"

Delivering a package for Bunya, as compared to Ash is a very different experience.
For one, the box was slimy and gross. It was like the cardboard container had been stained by some food spilled all over it. And it smelled... fishy. Definitely not great.
And secondly, the box seemed like it would move whenever you weren't looking. Like if she sat it down to rest, it would bounce a bit slowly away. Definitely not normal.
She had no idea what was within the package and if she was being honest with herself, she didn't really want to know. Still, when asked, she couldn't exactly say no. It would be like denying a quest. Everything was interesting in its own way.
Before she could truly walk through the streets of Briarbane a strange pop-up would appear on her screen. One that she's rather familiar at this point.
Wait, didn't she do this one already? Could you repeat the tutorials? She swore if she was forced to listen to the Catching Tutorial again, she'd go mad. But sure enough, someone else was suddenly added to her party, whom she presumed also had a package to be delivered. Slipping around the corner out and into the street, her feet skated across the ground as she looked around for this supposed party member.

"Uh, technically!" Laguna called out, twirling back on a sheet of ice that formed beneath her feet to avoid the tentacles as it tried to Wrap around her and her Wishiwashi. "From another dimension! Ultra Space! The name is very dumb!"
She didn't waste a second, linking up with her Wishiwashi as her Starlet dance partner. A cacophony of drums, tuba and bass roared out from nowhere as the school of fish roared back.
"Water Gun! That thing is Rock type, show it no mercy!"
Every single little fish in the school suddenly expelled water together. Individually it was incredibly weak, but all together the pressure was like a firehose!

Speaking of said friend, he showed up pretty quickly. She turned around with a laugh, twirling the key around her finger for a few seconds, already unlocked the padlock as the chain fell. She felt cool for a second, until the chain and padlock itself got dragged down, falling into the water never to be found again.
Oops?
Bertha the Cetoddle, however, seemed welcome to have a friend with them! "Oh, hey! Hello little friend!" They waved a flipper up to the Quaxly up above, only to suddenly pause and listen to their whispered words. "... Huh. Interesting. But I thought, water inside boats was bad?" More whispering, and Bertha just had an impossibly confused look as they looked up at their trainer. "Uh- I'm not really good at going under the water..."
Laguna meanwhile, just laughed and shook her head, trying not to feel too silly about the whole thing. What in the world was that Quaxly saying? Regardless, she just turned her attention back to her friend and boss. "Well, I admit, I wasn't intending to head out in this boat here on a quest. But when fate smiles upon the lucky, how am I supposed to say no?"
Leaping into the rusty boat, the vessel shifted back and forth, trying to adjust to her weight on the wild waves. She looked around, noticing no oars immediately in sight. It certainly had those little half ring things where you would rest the oars on to paddle, but they were nowhere to be found.
"Hmm, do you see any oars anywhere, Big Bee ? Or at least, something that we could use as oars? I guess we can always have a Pokemon push the boat, but I'd feel a lot safer on these waves with some."

Paras?
Laguna hummed in thought. Curious. It wasn't exactly what she was expecting. But if she was being honest, an Uncommon Venipede for a Common Paras wasn't a great trade. But being even more honest with herself, she didn't really care. She just wanted it gone! Who knew? Maybe she'd be able to trade the Paras for something else interesting in the future!
"Yeah, sure!" Laguna scrambled up to her feet, dusting herself off and pulling up her UI to initiate thet rade with the other trainer. "Paras sounds good! I mean, I don't know what I'll do with it. But hey, I think it might be fun to just keep trading until I find something fun. You know? Wonder Trade doesn't really exist in UNOVR, so this is the best idea I got!"
With a giggle, she sent the trade request, smiling widely. "I'm Laguna, by the way. nice to meet you!"

For all the time she's played this game, Laguna still struggled to find people willing to trade with her.
Unless she had something that couldn't be found in the routes yet, or something unique, most people seemed rather to brave their luck and go out into the routes and try and find certain Pokémon themselves.
But she had noticed that people were often collecting Pokémon to trade for to one of the two Bethanys, and neither of them really seemed to care about which Pokémon, just how many. Her strategy was pretty simple.
She'd wait right outside Bethany's Boudoir, just sitting back and relaxing, having a small little picnic while a small chalkboard sat next to her.
"Trading Venipede. Looking for anything!" Was written right on the board. Admittedly, Venipede was pretty cool. But right now, all she could think about was the inevitable Whirlipede it would turn into.
And she wasn't exactly excited about a wheel Pokémon. She had enough with wheels in her day to day life. So she sat back, just humming and watching the clouds, waiting for someone willing to take her up on her offer came by.

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png She couldn't help but roll her eyes as he went on to talk about beating people up who told her off. Honestly, it did feel kind of nice that he'd go to such lengths for her. But at the same time, totally expected from Orion, not afraid to get his hands dirty.
But as he brought up alternatives, and just paused, she couldn't help but look into his eyes, as if trying to read what he was thinking about.
And he seemed... lost. Like he didn't really have an answer. She was already readying up her nerves to tell him it was okay, to not worry about it, when she realized he was blushing and suddenly looking away, clearly a bit flustered himself.
"I could like...carry you..."
Abby just stared up at him, her own cheeks still quite bright red at this point.
If it was anyone else, literally anyone else, she would have never even thought twice about it. It would be so degrading, to rely on someone else entirely like that. It was why she moved out of her parent's house to live on her own, to do things her own way. Proving to herself that she could take care of herself, because she was strong enough all on her own. She didn't need anyone.
But it was Orion. He didn't suggest it like he was being overly cocky or confident about it, no teasing involved. Hesitant, unsure... as if he worried about her response.
And it was exactly why she let the thought settle for a few minutes.
Abby herself looked away, gently gripping onto the edge of her wheelchair. She bit her lip, debating on what to say. How would she even respond to that? Eventually, she found her voice and spoke up again. "... Orion, I haven't walked in over 5 years. And I've never let anyone carry me before."
She stared down at her feet, willing everything she had to try and even twitch her toes, feeling nothing. Walking so much in Virtual Reality, she often found herself trying to stand up at the worst of times, only to fail and fall again and again. It was getting so bad that she'd sit up in bed, and try to leap out like she would in VR. She still had a few bruises from that last attempt.
It always left her feeling drained.
With a quiet sigh, she finally looked back up at him again. Clearly hesitant, her voice shaky, she spoke. "... N-not umm, around other people. Okay? I have a reputation to uphold, heh."

"Well there you are!" Laguna shouted as she finally saw Orion in the distance, admittedly unable to help but smile as she saw him. However, before she could ask what took him so long, so many things happened at once.
A loud bang had her scrambling to the ground just in case, kneeling down. A bright light practically exploded into the sand, and the sky itself became like the surface of swirling paint, colors twisting back and forth in an ethereal, unnatural glow. Shooting stars continued to rain across the sky, trailing like streaks of a painter's brush, sometimes landing upon its creation with an explosion of color, a magic she had yet to see in this forsaken, dead landscape.
Laguna didn't need to be an artist herself to be in genuine awe of the sight.
"Yeah... I just, got this quest marker leading me here, and- goodness, this is beautiful." She genuinely would have been content to just stand there with Orion, to watch the sky explode in every color of the rainbow, when she noticed something else. There were figures moving in the distance.
Far more than she could count. Coming out from behind another dune, Invasive Species of all kinds came marching out one by one. It was hard to make them out from this distance, but it was pretty hard to not recognize what a Celesteela looked like. Pillars actually walking across the landscape. What could have them all so organized like this?
With a grin slowly spreading across her face, she instinctively reached out to grab hold of Orion's hand. "Come on bandana boy, let's go check it out. This has got to be quite the adventure."
She'd laugh, shamelessly giving his arm a tug before letting go as she tipped over the dune. Her own feet frictionless against the ground, leaving snowflakes behind her as she slid straight down like she was riding a wave.

As soon as a tentacle reached out of the water in an attempt to grab Kallisto, Laguna leaped back from the edge. Her eyes grew incredibly wide, staring at the figure that rose from the waves.
"Oh fuck-" Laguna immediately swore, staring at the 'Invasive Species.' God damn, Hydance had pulled the wool over their eyes. That was just a fancy term to cover up what they were.
"T-that's an Ultra Beast! Nihilego!" Laguna cried out, her arms shaking in fear, unsure how they were supposed to confront something often regarded as strong as a Legendary Pokemon in every other game, with just the two of them.
"Aaaaa, we're gonna die!!!" The Wishiwashi screamed out, sobbing horrendously. Very shortly after, a swarm of Wishiwashi seemed to finally come out from the distance, swarming and surrounding her fish friend.
Ostellia had no natural Pokemon spawn, they must have traveled miles and miles away to get here.
As the Nihilego charged, Laguna leaped out of the way, as the School Form Wishiwashi just attempted to take the fool blow, blocking the strike from applying its neurotoxin onto the trainers.
"Shit! Whatever you do, don't get too close! That thing's toxin is deadly! It possesses things like a parasite!"
All the Wishiwashi suddenly roared at once, far more confident in a group. "Rah! Death to the Jelly!" With a violent strike, the small fish slammed their bodies into the glass jellyfish with a powerful Beat Up! Regardless of their newfound courage and strength, a few Wishiwashi had already collapsed from the school, seemingly paralyzed entirely from the toxins.

Laguna knew this game well enough that when she found a key, there would be something to unlock with it. No game ever handed out keys, that opened no doors, no locks.
That was just bad game design. Although granted, with this being a fairly realistic apocalyptic city, maybe she shouldn't have put too much faith in it. And yet, she couldn't help but trying the rusted key on every door she came across, at least the ones still standing.
She's had it for a while now, and it was starting to really annoy her. Today she had been planning to actually play with Big Bee , get to know the boss a little bit better, maybe try and catch a few of the invasive species. She was just relaxing at the Drowned Harbor as she waited for him, watching the waves crash against the shore when she noticed something odd.
A small metal rowboat came into view from quite a distance as a particularly high wave lifted it up. Her curiosity was immediately piqued and she swiftly leaped from her perch to check out the small pier it was next to.
It was fairly rusty and old, but the boat was surprisingly in decent condition compared to everything else around here. Still a rusty mess, but better than nothing. It was honestly amazing it was still here, even though it was chained and locked up to the pier...
Her eyes immediately locked onto the very obvious padlock and her lips split into a wide grin.
"Jackpot. I knew they wouldn't give me a key without a lock, hah! Oh, wait till Big Bee sees this." She mumbled to herself. "I wonder where this quest might lead." Out of caution, she suddenly summoned her Cetoddle, the Ice Whale forming in the water with a loud splash.
"Oh, hey!" The Cetoddle flapped its flippers around, looking at everything with big, wide eyes. "Are we uh, going swimming? In these dangerous waters? You know my people moved onto land forever ago!"
"Well, sure, but you can swim, right?"
"I mean, yeah! I can try!" The eager to please Cetoddle grinning widely, splashing some more as it spun in place, being lifted by the waves. "I mostly just float, but I suppose that's good enough! Where are we going, anyways?"
"You know, I'd like to know the same thing. I'm waiting for a friend to show up before we get going."

Laguna couldn't sleep.
To be fair, there were a good many nights where she couldn't sleep. Perhaps it had been a depressing or stressful day, or perhaps the city was just being far too noisy for her. It was often that she'd put on the headset and genuinely just fall asleep in UNOVR. Find some place to cuddle up with her Pokémon and relax.
It worked wonderfully, but tonight she wouldn't really have a time to even consider doing so. As soon as she logged on, a quest marker she had never seen before was directing her to the Dune District.
And there she stood on the edge of a particularly tall dune, the moon lighting the apocalyptic world around her. Nothing was happening, but this was precisely where the marker was. Thinking about it, however, most of these quests and dungeons were designed with multiple players in mind.
Flopping down onto the ground, her eyes scanned the empty landscape looking for anyone else nearby, before giving up her search. Without a second thought, she pulled up her UI to see who was still online.
Cayge_Match was online. A faint smile spread across her face as she pulled up her messages with him.

"Oh?" Laguna turned around, noticing the other trainer nearby with an Empoleon. It looked like she wasn't the only one interesting in exploring these sunken ships and dark depths!
"Well hey there! Numbers always makes things safer for sure! I mean, I still have no idea what's found in the depths of these waters." She'd reach up, affectionately patting the small fish, swimming nervously in an orbit around her head.
"Something is here," The Wishiwashi spoke, seemingly repeating the other trainer's sentiment. "We're not alone. Oh god, oh god, we're gonna get pounced on, we're gonna die! I'm too young to die!" And the fish downright broke out into tears, crying loudly. His falling tears shimmering brightly with light, super reflective.
She sighed, but steeled herself ready for combat. "Look alive, friend. We got ourselves another unexpected guest." She twirled in place, twirling a magical wand in her hands.

Waves crashed against the shore made of broken concrete and rubble as steel spires of humanity's hubris rised from the endless ocean.
This was the fall of mankind. And yet, here she stood to see it all. The world had fallen. It was easy to forget in Asper that the corruption had wiped life away from the place until they returned, that all human life had either fled... or died.
But here, it was impossible to forget. Remnants of humanity's past laid not dormant, but almost alive all around her. Nature had reclaimed the city in the way that time never forgot, and new, strange species had moved in. They weren't Pokemon? So... what were they?
She couldn't help but be intrigued beyond measure. And what better place to check than the harbor? These dark depths would hide so many things from the world, and she wanted to find out what laid hidden beneath them.
Her gaze drifted over towards one of the rusted towers in the distance, formed from shipwrecks that had stacked together. If there was anything to be found, that might be a great start, still somewhat about the waves. For now, at least.
Quickly going into her settings, she equipped the Swimmer class as well and shuddered as the splash from the waves crashing just slipping around her, perfectly dry.
With a flick of her wrist, she twisted out her Wishiwashi's Pokeball as the shy fish suddenly formed in the air, swimming around her head.
"Oh goodness- We're not actually- We're not- Are we heading out there?" The shy fish nearly sobbed, a tear dripping from its big eye.
"Shhh," Laguna reached up to gently pat the young fish, smiling softly. "It'll be fine. Just an in and out. 20 minute adventure. What's the worst that can happen?"
Suddenly, she heard something cracking, splashing, was someone else there? Or was something there? ENTERING THE TALL GRASS!
