Zone Three Light.
It was all she could see for a moment as the Solgaleo ripped apart the mist with such intensity that it was like stars were being plucked from the night sky and placed amidst the sun in the daytime. It was glorious.
Too bad the Hearteater was absolutely hideous in comparison.
It was bloated and twisted, an undeterminable amount of time spending life in gluttony. A powerful creature need not be beautiful, even if they used to be. But now, their body matched the beauty of their soul, a hideous twisted mass that gorged itself on the evils of this world. She caught a glimpse of Glacia making a twisted expression, like she wasn't supposed to judge people's appearance but they were visibly disgusting.
And then- A glimpse of the past that had her eyes widening. It's intelligence was undeniable, using their Pokémon as bait, abducting them by the dozen solely to draw everyone here as bait, because the Game would not allow it to simply grab the Players themselves. Somehow, it had knowledge on the Game Itself. It understood its limitations, and that above anything else, was more terrifying than how the beast looked.
A twisted malevolence, lurking between its flaws in the code, and pouncing as soon as it could. If it could understand, what else could? What else did it know? What did it recognize about its existence? How could it see beyond? As soon as the flashback ended, however, another realization dawned on her, even as it shouted in that alien language, twisting about as it readied its response, sucking energy from it's mind controlled pawns to prepare.
"You bitch!"
She'd shout from behind her Holiday Substitute. "You just ruined the memory of my first virtual kiss!" She had such good memories of that night parade, too. Dancing without a care in the world... and now it kind of made her sick.
The Menacing Moonraze Malestrom ripped apart Pokemon, fainting many, but her Pokemon and their tanky nature kept them alive. Her substitute popped, the air deflating from it like a sad mall decoration that had gone long overdue, but it kept her safe as well. And then chaos erupted across the battlefield again, as everyone struck out with equal vengeance. For their fallen friends, for their virtues and morals, or perhaps simply because the game was fun. But in her mind, Laguna just smiled, the Ultra Beasts were finally free.
"Roxanne, Glacia, you two know what to do, don't you?" Laguna spoke, twirling on her feet to glance back at her Pokemon, checking over their injuries.
"This... Thing, is going to taste the the power of my kick!" Glacia bounced back and forth, readying their jump. "We are not bait! We, are powerful!" They'd shout as loud as they possibly could, genuine anger building up in them. The tiniest hints of flames at the tips of their spikes like candle flames grew as the Iceberg launched itself forwards with a powerful High Jump Kick, moving to smack their bloated face. Except, it did nothing. Frustration boiled inside them, but alas, it seemed they were going down anyways.
She'd then glance over at Roxanne, who had an unreadable expression on their stone face. Silence, staring forwards at the combat.
"Roxanne, you okay?" Laguna would pause her dancing for a second, looking up at her Pokemon with concern on her face. "You can join in too."
"Auntie," Spoke the Onix, their deep, sultry voice seemingly growing more emotional as they glanced down at her. "I have been with you, for a good long while. I have been strong, but am I strong enough? This is one I wonder. And yet, then I think of you. I think of my Mom." She'd nod slowly before standing up straight. "I think of our journey. Of restoring the Ferry, of defending against corruption, of exploring this new land. You have brought my soul such peace, even as the world knows no rest."
"I think I am ready for another challenge."
A brilliant light erupted from the Onix, pouring off their form as they grew. Icy stone was replaced with cold steel, stretching and growing across their whole body. Their maw widening into that of a powerful grin, letting out a roar of their own. "Their power, is not their own. It is stolen from their subjects. Allow us to show them what power we have, freely given for a good cause. That the bond between family is stronger than anything else." Said the Steelix.
Tears could not help but spill down her face, watching Roxanne grow. Her Pokemon, her friends... They all grew so fast.
"Let's dance. For you, for me, for Solgaleo, for a new world." And with that, she started to dance. The music for Solgaleo, her Starlet Partner, built and built up in volume as she slowly twirled. It wasn't a grand rock opera or metal concert, nay it was something that seemed far more fitting.
A song that represented the rising sun. A new day to form across all of Ostelia, with its own occasional flute sounds, this time, for hope. A cold wind would wash over Solgaleo to enhance his strength, but further it would carry, directed by her wand to friends nearby. Morpheus's Poipole was awash with a cool chill to assist their painting, and Kyukon's Granbull too, ice sharpening their bite.
Roxanne pulled on the power of her bond as a yellow glow began to surrond her. Lingering darkness began to pull together in long wisps, dragged out from the shadows and twisting into a tenebrous orb above the Steelix's head swirled, and then condensed tighter and tighter, before-
Black Hole Eclipse.
It exploded outwards towards the bloated bat, expanding once more and as it attempted to rip away the protuberous flesh of the beast.
"May darkness never be your ally, and may the light reveal your sins."

And so the pair got to work. Slowly, but surely, stuffing this Naganadel's arms full of some of the random assortment of junk they had collected. A chewed air freshener, a rusty muffler, an old bottle of oil still sealed, half of a car seat cut vertically, and even the hood that they had used as a sled. But now, the Naganadel had its arms way too full, and yet it seemed to refuse to drop any of it, or even put any of it down temporarily. It would examine every item with the same odd interest, and yet exciting all the same.
"There, that's it. That's all we got!" Brragon spoke, looking up at the Naganadel, who just continued to look down at the two, wings keeping it afloat. "We don't got any more!"
It just stared more, blinking. It seemed to be expecting more. Not knowing what to do, the Frigibax looked up at Laguna, who was admittedly sweltering in the heat. "Well, if he likes this stuff, then maybe we should in fact, go and get some more."
"Are you serious? It was a lot of effort to drag all that junk over here!" Brragon seemed almost upset, only to immediately lower his voice, as the Naganadel floated in a bit closer.
"Well, friendship takes a lot of effort. Especially when we can't talk with them. Come on, let's go find some more, and then come back, okay?"
"Okay. You uh-" He turned to the Naganadel, still holding all the things in his arms, a tight, squished mess. "You go put things down! We'll be back."
The Naganadel continued to be quiet, but after a few moments of watching the two slowly back up, it finally moved to go and put all its things into a massive pile atop its car stack, and then get right back to work, doing... whatever it had been doing!

Brragon was still nervous, but that didn't stop him from moving to pick up the next item. Something he himself had worked hard to find. An actual hood ornament. It was of some brand he had no idea about, but it looked kind of like a little dragon's head. Feeling hesitant, he just stretched his arms wide above his head, carrying the actual hood ornament high up with his eyes shut tight.
"Don't eat me..." He quietly mumbled, only to feel the little hood ornament being lifted out of his hands after a few seconds. He finally dared to take a peek, seeing the Naganadel holding it up to its eyes, examining it slowly.
It was rusty, but there was at least a few bits that sparkled in the sunlight. It tilted the ornament back and forth, watching the light refract off its metal form. And then their head swiftly shooting over to watch as the light beam reflected onto the sand below, like a cat with a laser, only one intelligent enough to slowly figure out that he was in charge of the beam. Like a baby learning how a mirror worked.
The purple hornet eventually moved the ornament and tire together, as if trying to figure out if they connected. After a few moments, it finally placed the ornament inside the tire, and it seemed to stay there, so it seemed satisfied before looking back at the duo again, blinking. For some odd reason, it was collecting these things. Laguna still wasn't sure if it was because it was trying to make like a dragon's hoard, a lair, or what, but it was working! Much better than her attempt at hide and seek did with the Nihilego, anyways.
"Brilliant idea, Brragon! But what are we just standing here for?" Laguna laughed quietly, reaching down to pick up part of an old steering wheel. "Let's offer up more of our things, and see how far this can take us?"
Brragon's confidence was swiftly shooting up, grinning ear to ear as they waddled back to pick up wires he had ripped from a ruined engine. "Okay!"

"Alright, you ready?" Laguna spoke softly, grinning down at her Frigibax as he readied his new plan. "You sure you got everything in order?"
"I am sure." Brragon replied softly, not actually super sure. Either way, he was carefully dragging a few car parts across the desert, being slid atop an old car hood as a makeshift sled. "I don't know why it wants cars, but maybe a peace offering will go far?"
Laguna nodded right back, grabbing the rope and helping herself to pull it as she spoke. "We won't know for sure, until we try. I'll be right there by your side this time, no more going off on your own. We're partners, right?"
The Frigibax nodded, and the two finally rounded the corner to find the alley that the Naganadel was. It seemed a few more of the vehicles had been stuck to the walls, but others had fallen down. Not because the adhesive broke, the building instead did.
The Naganadel was fluttering about like a furious hornet, the signs of a more recent scuffle practically everywhere. It seems they fought something while they were gone. Sand was scattered everywhere, claw marks ripped apart everything. Even Brragon couldn't help but frown, seeing all that hard work ruined.
Finally stepping out into the clearing, the two didn't try to hide. The Naganadel was now hyper aware of intruders, immediately zooming over towards the duo with a sudden force, once again stopping just shy of actually touching them. The trainer and Pokemon pair both jumped slightly, but despite Brragon's hesitancy, Laguna was swift to move. She just kneeled down, picking up a car tire from atop the hood sled, and held it out for the beast.
It seemed.... confused. Eyes blinked over at the pairing, down at the Frigibax it had stuck somewhere up before, the Trainer standing there silently, and then finally the strange rubber circle it was being shown.
Ever so carefully, a firm talon would wrap around the tire, swiftly ripping it closer to examine it slowly. Scanning over every inch, twisting it about slowly.
Brragon was still struggling to move, his fear intense, but seeing it actually taking the tire from his trainer? He couldn't help but smile. Maybe this thing really was just misunderstood after all.

Brragon was silent, feeling the power of the Thunderfall Shrine washing over him. It was the first time he had truly been here, and it seemed that the Frigibax had found themselves in silent awe. Laguna was not going to interrupt them, watching the Pokemon as they placed their hands upon the shrine. She just smiled, slowly sitting down and waiting for them. He was one of her Pokemon that definitely was struggling to adjust the most, but she never once doubted his genuine kindness.
If only he knew how to be kind to himself when he failed something.
"... I think I get it." Brragon finally spoke up, stepping back from the shrine and looking back at Laguna. "Power isn't just beating up something, because you can. It's... about holding back, because you can."
Laguna tilted her head, patting her lap for the Frigibax to crawl atop. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, like, the most powerful Pokemon ever, don't just destroy everything, right? They protect. They hold back, they show glimpses of their strength, and then the shrine here is supporting others following their goal. It's... weird. But I get it."
Laguna would suddenly smile, leaning in to kiss the top of his head. "I'm proud of you, you know that?"
"Ewwww, blugh!" He'd suddenly attempt to escape at being kissed, only before the two devolved into a fit of giggles.

It took Laguna a few moments to hop up the building, climbing over out onto the vehicle, precariously stuck to the building, and sitting down next to him. "Next time, we-"
"I know, I know." Brragon spoke up before she could finish her sentence. He looked almost dejected and sad, staring into the distance at the Naganadel that continued to ignore them now, and wandered with whatever it was doing. "I shouldn't have tried to fight it. I just- I really want to impress you! With some of our friends gone I- I just, wanted to stand up. Show I can fight!"
Laguna was quiet, legs dangling off the edge of the vehicle, letting her thoughts wander for a few seconds before finally speaking. "Hon, being powerful doesn't impress me. Creativity does. It's doing things that only you can do, embracing what makes you unique. Like you said, you liked being you, right?"
"Yeah..." He mumbled softly, watching as Laguna grabbed her Golden Pokeball. It was probably easier to let himself be recalled, than trying to cut his way loose. "I, maybe I have an idea to actually befriend them?"
"I knew you would." Laguna's smile softened, as their form dissolved into light as they were recalled back into the ball. It was time to go heal their wounds.

"Laguna!" Brragon shouted in a panic, being twisted and tossed around in their claws like they were nothing more than a ball. Examined as if they were eying something mildly interesting, even as the Brragon furiously attempted to swing his small tail powerfully with a dragon infused move.
"Drop him!" Laguna held her wand out as one would to threaten, as if she had a gun, but of course it didn't understand her. It suddenly took off towards the nearest building, and after tossing the Frigibax atop the hood of a car it had stuck to the exterior of the building, it launched more poison.
Sticking Brragon to the hood like a car ornament, only to suddenly fly away without a car in the world, examining its cars and 'art projects?' as if that was more important than anything else. Only after Laguna realized Brragon wasn't going to be abducted like the rest did she let out a sigh of relief, carefully skating over to try and not draw the ire of the Ultra Beast again.
"H-hey!" He twisted and shouted claws attempting to rip at the poisonous ooze that kept him still. "Coward! Running away! Lemme at him, I can-"
"Brragon, stop. Look at yourself. If he wanted to, he could have knocked you out instantly, with this poison?" He was clearly about to try and bite his way though the ooze, but hearing Poison had him stalled.
With that, he slumped forwards, sighing himself. "Can you just, get me out of this?"

Laguna didn't know how to approach the moment, finding herself hindered by indecision as well. If she moved, or shouted, would the Naganadel, unable to communicate, view it as a threat and attack? Or would it be distracted and curious enough to give Brragon an escape?
Instead, she didn't get a chance to act, watching Brragon finally daring to take a step back, nervous energy building and building. That was more than enough of a reaction to have the Naganadel suddenly pouncing.
An Acid was fired from the tip of their stinger, and Brragon barely jumped out of the way at the last second. The poison soaking into the sand, effectively making a nightmare of sticky, sinking poisonous quicksand. The Frigibax quickly picked itself back up, attempting to return fire with a move of its own. An Icy Wind was fired, chunks of ice ripping at its wings, but the Beast was far faster than either could have predicted.
They'd twist around, a claw swiftly scooping the Frigibax up and into its grip, squeezing tightly as Brragon struggled.
"Brragon!" Laguna shouted loudly, flashbacks of her Pokemon getting abducted already flashing through her mind. A massive shard of ice would fling forth from her position as she leaped out, only proving to distract the creature as it zig zagged over towards her.

"What was that?" Brragon readied into position, his legs spread into a fighting stance, kneeling down low as he built up his energy.
"I don't know," Laguna replied quietly, shifting onto her feet just in case. "Maybe we should investigate, carefully-"
CRACK
BANG
SNAP
Metallic snapping sounds echoed, even making Brragon shudder for a moment, picturing that sound being his own bones. The two finally peer around the corner, getting a glimpse of what was going on, and both of their mouths dropped.
Remnants of cars were being dug out of the sand by this massive flying purple hornet, a huge pile stacked atop the middle of the road, and it apparently had just fallen over, to the frustration of the beast.
It took a few moments for Laguna to realize why, as her eyes scanned the scene some more, and found remnants of cars being stuck to what buildings remained in this sandy hell by this bright, purple gooey poison, like an adhesive. It was almost a bit surrealist, like some modern art statement.
Could UB's even be capable of art? Was he simply staking claim to his new lair? What was going on? Either way, it was kind of remarkable.
"Brragon, we should- Hey!" Laguna turned to look down at the Frigibax, only to see it already waddling forwards.
"Hey! You! Purple stingy thing!" The Frigibax shouted out loudly, definitely gaining its attention as he dug his feet into the sand below. "Apparently I'm not supposed to fight you, not supposed to start it! But you look like you're ready to fight! And I-"
"That doesn't mean you antagonize them until you get to fight!" Laguna shouted back. "I meant it! You can't win these kinds of fights alone!"
"Oooh, I'm not fighting! Like you said, I'm tootally trying to make friends. Isn't that right big... guy...?" Suddenly, with but a blink, the massive Naganadel was overtop of them. Every little spike seemed all that more dangerous up close, the stinger already dripping a purple poison.
"I- I uh-" His confidence seems to waver, seeing the massive beast what feels like forever, before him. The two are at a stand still for what feels like forever, no words are spoke, but Brragon's will is crumbling all the same as he stands beneath the intense presence of the hornet dragon.

Zone Three The Hearteater wasn't in the mist, they were the mist, as if it could somehow change shape like a vampire of legend. It seemed fitting, but Laguna was certainly not about to debate the interesting creative processes behind their foe, as tempting as it might be.
She was far more focused on Sarah being kidnapped, seemingly stuck, unmoving. Her blood immediately began to boil in righteous fury. This could go on no longer, to think such selfish evil could exist in this world... It would meet its untimely end, tonight.
"Look out!" Shouted Roxanne, who tried her best to shield everyone from the sudden Power Whip, but the wires were far too unpredictable. It slashed across all her Pokemon, with Sheldon and Froakie being shredded. The poor Pokemon were not prepared for combat, she had never utilized them properly for it, their health was low-
And Froakie swiftly fainted, collapsing on the ground.
"Hoppy! Get up, you stupid idiot!" Sheldon immediately spoke, attempting to shake the Froakie away. Instead of recalling them, however, Laguna finally grabbed the sword-length feather on her hip, and reached it out to touch the flame on the very tip across Froakie's chest. The Squirtle immediately stepped back, a hesitant look on his face, watching everyone else suddenly strike back, or his eyes trained on the white lion that pierced through the mist.
"Moltres, Goddess of War and Victory, lend us your flames!" She shouted out, calling upon the healing fires of the legendary Phoenix. "Rise warrior! To avoid the sting of death, and fight once more!" The whole feather suddenly combusted into flames, a roar of heat washing over both trainer and frog. Glacia's own Poke-Pet, the Fiery Spirit from the Everworld suddenly made itself known again, burning with the same vermillion flames.
The flames swelled, only to swiftly meld with the Froakie's flesh, warmth returning to their limbs and fire in their eyes as they suddenly leap up to their feet. Their injuries remained, barely standing, but there was a furious passion within them. "Divine miracles are a life saver, aren't they?" They finally spoke, wincing as it hurt to speak, but they did so anyways. Always had to make some witty comment.
Sheldon's own tears swiftly dried up, mimicking their rival's passion as they lightly smacked them. "Asshole. That's for dying without me."
"Then what do you say we go out together this time?" Froakie limped forwards, smirking wildly.
Laguna nodded her head, understanding already. The chance that her two least experienced Pokemon in combat could survive for much longer was next to none, and she had long understood that her Pokemon had inherited her own selfless, sacrificial mindset.
They would be going out together, they both had already decided in that split moment, no words were needed.
"Alright then friends, let's get to it. Sheldon, Hoppy, restore Solgaleo and charge him up. Glacia, you too." The three of them all nodded, swiftly leaping into the fray around the other trainers. Clambering beneath legs, jumping over head, bouncing off walls as they ran as fast as they could.
"Roxanne, gonna need you. Stand by, keep an eye out. Mr. Business?" The exhausted Mr. Mime still stood straight, despite the sweat pouring down his brow as he smiled politely.
"Yes? I am afraid to admit that my services might be a bit lacking, I do believe I require a sick day."
"Don't worry, I can cover your shift." Laguna held out her Golden Pokeball, and Mr. Business simply smiled politely, bowing.
"Good luck, my dear." He smiled, reaching over to place his palm right atop the Pokeball and vanish with an Escape. A cold energy would wash over Laguna, exchanging his buffs with her.
"We don't need luck," Laguna mumbled softly, glancing up at the crowd of trainers demolishing the Xurkitree, the Solgaleo almost restored to his full colors. "We just need to remember what we're fighting for."
Elsewhere, the trio of formerly colorless Pokemon were working together for the Combo Move they had worked so hard on, months and months ago. Finally time to put it into action. "Are we ready?" Shouted Glacia, standing atop Sheldon's shell.
"Ready!" "Aye Aye!" The Squirtle tucked limbs and head into his shell, the Froakie kneeling down.
"Fiiire!"
A sudden Water Gun from the Froakie carried them forth on a stream of water, blasting forwards like shot from a water cannon
"Rapid Spin!" Shouted Glacia, and the two suddenly twirled in the air. One twisting like a bullet, the other like a drill through the air, splitting apart as they flew towards their target.
First, the Squirtle struck, slamming its shell into the Solgaleo, which promptly got smacked down by a retalating paw, only for the blues to be restored to their form and the Solgaleo hopefully returned to their sane self. The icicle crashed into them next, transferring their force, their energy into them, and then the weak Water Gun finally slapped into the lion, the Froakie already starting to fall down from exertion.
"W-we... did it..." They had just barely managed to crawl his way over towards where Sheldon had collapsed, laying down on the ground next to them before fainting as well.
All the while, Laguna had made a slight detour. With the Xurkitree downed, protecting Sarah Lee's prison of an Ultra Beast, she'd swiftly reach out a hand, attempting to touch one brick. "Hey big guy, be free, it's okay-"
After the memory, Laguna glanced up at the Stakataka, only to see it continuing to ignore her. Swearing internally, she pivoted on her heels and twirled over towards her Pokemon.
Laguna slid across the battlefield, Roxanne in tow, her form already alight with flames that poured off her body. A hand swiftly reached out, recalling her fainted Pokemon before skating straight up towards the Solgaleo with a wide grin on her face, Glacia swiftly moving to her side, a little dizzy.
"Mama! You're glowing like the sun!" The Bergmite shouted with glee, clearly remembering when they once were the sun in the Everworld.
"No baby, I am not the sun. But he will be." She suddenly stretched her arms up, claiming the Solgaleo as her Starlet Partner. Music immediately filled the chamber, and the trainer and her Pokemon all immediately grinned widely as she began to dance. Twirling in circles, her shoes leaving lines of flames in every direction she moved.
"Solgaleo!" She shouted as loudly as she could, the heat of the sun already rolling off of her like coronal mass ejections, massive beams of flames danced across their form as she stood before him. It was incredibly hot, but somehow didn't harm a soul. It simply bestowed power, brightening up the chamber. "It's time to Let the Light In! Take your power! Sunsteel Strike!" No longer was she the only one glowing like the sun, the flames lingered across all they touched, strengthening them with the raw energy of a star.
The empowering energy washed over those nearby, specifically Alicia Westfield and her Pokemon. The warmth of the sun would wash over the Bayleef, healing and soothing their wounds, allowing them to grow stronger and stronger. A secondary flash of energy would ricochet off of them, empowering the Naganadel by their side.
"Now, time for my secret weapon! Just try and get past this, you sack of shit bat!" Laguna continued to dance, swiftly pulling out a small device that seemed to immediately inflate with a horrific squeaking noise as plastics stretched and grew, forming a familiar, festive avian shape. It looked like something out a bootleg Christmas decoration, except it clearly was designed to be beaten around like a toddler's practice dummy for playground brawls.
"... Momma?" Spoke Bergmite, eyes wide in awe. "You're a genius."

Laguna only let out a long sigh in response, and instead of taking any steps further she'd move to walk over towards the nearest shade, a long ruined office building, and sit down next to it. "Brragon, I know you like fighting, and I appreciate that you're always willing to defend me. But you shouldn't go picking fights you can't win."
"Of course I can win!" He'd puff his chest up, beating it a few times as he also followed her along into the shade. "Just you watch! I'll beat up anything that gets in our way?"
"Is that, confidence I hear? Or pride?" She responded dryly, and Brragon simply blinked his eyes confused in response.
"... There's a difference?"
"Of course, darling." She'd pull out her wand, casually twirling it to keep the cool winds flowing. Even in the shade here, it was still stupidly hot. She didn't know how Brragon was handling himsef. "Confidence is being self-assured, appreciating your skills and knowing you can handle something. Negative pride, however, is a foolishly inflated sense of your own skills, and embracing it as fact. Being proud of yourself is one thing, but its easy to be too prideful. None of us are perfect, hon."
"Bah-" Brragon clearly didn't like having the chastising conversation, even if it did seem to get to him. He rubbed at the back of his head, sighing heavily. "Fine. Fine. If we find something, I won't immediately try and Dragon Tail it."
"Thank you," Laguna spoke softly, reaching over to pat their head, only to find them incredibly cool! Her eyes opened wide, in silent shock. "Wait, how are you so cool? I am dying in the heat over here! "
It was as if she said the wrong thing, and suddenly his pride was coming right back in full force as he puffed out his chest. "Easy! I take in hot energy, and make it cold! The higher the temprature, the more energy I get! I store it all deep inside me!"
"That... is admittedly, kind of incredible. But don't be so smug, you dork!" She'd gently shove him, the two tumbling into the sand and laughing together.
"Sorry, sorry. I just- Well, I like being me!" Brragon replied, climbing to his feet and kicking some sand away. "Do you like being you?"
"... Well-" It was a difficult question with an not easy answer, but she was saved by the sudden loud crack echoing from a nearby building, causing both of them to twist and search for the sound of the disturbance.
