"Uh-oh, Cygnus is going bananas again..."Yggy winced when the mustached man twigged out in the middle of his big speech. Why did it always have to happen with important stuff? Like, "Whatever you do, don't <incomprehensible string of garbage>." Cygnus's warnings always came too late! Her outline fuzzed, stray pixels playing around the edge of her avatar. Nah, it's fine. At least he told us the important part: avoid the red beam, hit the green beam. Pretty simple, if you thought about it! That was totally her style. "Hey guys, let's go for it!" Grinning, Yggy jetted down to her teammates, @killian and Aero. "While that Mythstar guy is distracted hitting that fox-ears lady, quick!"She'd never actually made it through the Ducklett ring the first time, but that wouldn't stop them from soaring to new, awesome heights! "Hey, it'd a good thing none of us are scared of heights, right? I know! Let's make a V-shape and go up together! You know how geese migrate in winter?" Yggy made a big V shape with her hands (or maybe it was a Y, for Yggy). "It's 'cause each of them gets like, a boost from the goose in front of them! LIke in Mario Kart when you drive really close behind someone and get the slipstream or whatever."Whooops! They'd been hovering too long, and a beam of red light cut straight for them. Yggy let out a yelp and glitched out of the way of the beam, suddenly appearing six feet higher than where she'd just been. The laser passed harmlessly through a shower of pixels.. "Yikes, that was close! Anyway. Killian can be the pointy part, like the leader! And me and Aero can be the wings, since we both have jetpacks!" It was a cool plan, right? TEAMMATES: @killian Aero

"Up up and away!" shouted Big Bee, as his helmet carried him high into the air. He reached Orion and clasped arms with his teammates, only to then watch in horror as M'Foxy ditched their Blue Angels show to instead crash straight into the red beam. She hit the ground hard, struck down in her prime like a discontinued Transformers character. "M'Foxy nooooo!"
Her sacrifice would not be in vain though.
Big Bee planted a foot on Orion's air-snowboard, balancing their his center of gravity so that his bro could still steer. He held on tight, using the lift from his propeller helmet to pull them higher and higher into the afternoon sky. "Let's hit up that green beam while Titanius is distracted!" he said, shouting to be heard above the whoosh of the wind around them.
Orion had really gone for the fastest goddam thing on the table, and the board zigged and zagged in the sky, carving back and forth as they hunted down the green beam. But Cygnus had put their target right at the top of the damn skybox, and Big Bee focused all his mental energy on pulling them higher. His propeller whined like a toddler who had missed nap time, but their combo of horizontal and vertical momentum was a sight to behold.
Now it was just up to Orion to steer them into the green.

Orion watched in horror as Foxy crashed the the ground like the authorial credibility of JK Rowling after a couple tweets. "FOOOOOOX!" Orion would howl, about ready to turn face, return to surface, and render aid. Yet it seemed like homie Bee had other things in mind, landing on his board and suddenly turning this flight into the most Bro-Mantic flight of the ages. Foxy had paid a price to distract the red light, and now Greenlight meant GO GO GO. He didn't want to leave a Bandanadito behind, but he managed to catch sight of her simply looking winded, so she wasn't in any immediate danger of whiting out.
Thanking God for his magnetic metal boots more and more every day, Orion put the pedal to the medal and shot a quick command back to Bee. "HOLD ON TIGHT!" And began to shoot the board forward with all the speed he could muster. The assistants at the red light didn't even have time to aim, he simply shot forward past the death beam and straight into the green beam which might as well have been standing still. Leading Orion to the conclusion that if he couldn't outmaneuver whatever all this training for, he most certainly could try to outrun them.
Once through the beam, he arced a sharp U-turn, the blood draining from his face as he arced back around and pointed the nose towards Foxy. Once his target was lined up, he hit the gas and gunned it for their downed comrade. "Foxy! Get ready to hop on!" Turning to Bee he would grin. "Bee, get ready to catch, we're gettin our third across the finish line!"
No homie left hanging.

The unsung hero of this disastrous flight of theirs is actually Tuesday's Rainbow Flame Cloak. Not just because she looks stunning in those white feathers that glimmer with pearlescence under the Steppes' sunlight, but because when losing control of the board even for a second, it allows them to easily glide down instead of being sent into a freefall. That's exactly what begins to happen when Tuesday decides to shift starlitlover's weight in her arms now that there's a moment to breath (thanks you to whoever has that Titanius guy distracted), switching into a more comfortable bridal carry... as if they were newlyweds in the most chaotic wedding reception ever. "Hey. You doing okay?" She smirks down at him, finding that she's actually enjoying herself despite everything. "We should get to that green beam... should regroup with Saint first, though. Do you think you can fly or should I carry you the rest of the way?"They should all be together. This is a team exercise, after all. But in the chaos of saving Adarsa from his fall, Tuesday had lost their cute new friend for a moment there. It takes her a short moment to find him, and of course, in true Tuesday fashion, she feels no shame in loudly calling out to him. "HEY, SAINT! YOU GOOD? WE NEED TO GET UP THERE TO THE GREEN BEAMS, ANY SUGGESTIONS?... DON'T GO NEAR THOSE RED ONES, YEAH? RED LIGHT THERAPY IS A SCAM." She then whispers to Ada, winking: "That's a lie, it has made my skin look great, but I doubt it works like that here."

❝Hey, as far as I know, I haven't done anything to offend the Duckletts!❞ he was glad to see that his teammates seemed to be perfectly capable of controlling themselves in flight, but he made sure to keep a close eye on them - he had to put some distance if in case they wobbled or suddenly shifted their course, which could easily lead to them crashing into each other. His chosen aircraft allowed him to hover in place for brief periods of time, but it was easier to be in constant movement, even at slow speeds. The question though was how much battery this thing had, or whatever was powering it to keep it afloat. As much as possible, Killian didn't want to be up in the air too long, since the longer he was up here, the higher the risk.
(But this was a game and maybe it was a nice game? He really couldn't be certain since death was a mechanic...)
Anyway, they didn't reach the Ducklett ring before Cygnus began speaking again, which somehow Killian heard clearly (game logic?). He was talking something about most of them not succeeding, which he expected (low expectations much?) and that they now had another goal to hit. Specifically, a moving green beam. There were also red beams that...err, what? Did he not notice that he glitched out when he was talking about the red beam? And what did he mean he hadn't tested it on women, what happened to the men?!
As if to answer his question, a foolish player immediately thought it was fun to try getting hit by the red beam. She ended up looking like a bug that got hit with a zapper, crumpling and falling into the ground. Again, like a bug. Killian did not want to become a bug (though at least she was still moving and alive, it seemed).
His teammate did not seemed too phased by the strangeness then sudden additional danger in their situation. He listened to her explanation with furrowed brows, but he did try to absorb the information. Actually, he did get the part when she mentioned Mario Kart. While he never fully figured out how the boosting thing worked, there was indeed a mechanic like that. Would it really apply here? ❝I guess it's worth a shot--oh shit!❞
The red beam was no longer distracted by its previous prey and struck Yggyuana, or so Killian thought. To his surprise, she had somehow appeared much higher than earlier. Was that some kind of skill? She didn't seem bothered by it at all, but it didn't look like teleportation...was it? He shook his head, agreeing that they have been hovering for too long. They were sitting (airborne) ducks for the lasers. ❝Okay, any plan's better than sticking around. Let's go!❞
He elected to ignore the guild thing for now - he still had a number of requirements to fulfill before he could even think of that. Anyway, flying first!

As soon as Cygnus released the red and green beams, Aero's enjoyment turned into horror when she saw them before barely dodging the red ones. "What in the name of Zapdos is that?!" She exclaimed. Normally, she was calm during crazy events, but the sight of the red beam about to hit her while in mid-air made her panic a lot. Does that stop her? Nope. Instead, it made her a bit mad.
"Scared? Ha! I don't know the meaning of it!" She arrogantly declared to Yggy Br00ks after she regained her balance. But seriously, the only thing she feared was intense body horror and zombies. "Ooh! A V-sign! That sounds like a good idea!" She commented on Yggy's idea. "I'm in! Let's do it!"
If @killian agreed, Aero tried to grab their hands in her attempt to be part of the wings of this formation. If this works, then there's a chance they would avoid the red beams while reaching their destination with no issue. If they succeed in this formation, she screamed, "Behold! We're the Y Gang!"

Thanks to Jinx's aid, and Kazuki's manhandling, they all managed through the ring of ducklett. And, no nearly had they gone through than Cygnus was calling again. Expressing his... astonishment that anyone at all had managed to do as he'd asked.
Well then.
Cygnus kept speaking, and his words buzzed with static, and he felt his ears pin irritably as the man continued to speak. "What...?" He had no idea what the man had tried to say. Just that it... hadn't been tested on women?
The issues were rapidly compounding- the ducklett ring, hard to find as it was, was still a physical thing that allowed sound to reflect off of it. Beams, on the other hand, were not tangible, which meant he had no idea at all where they were. The red beam's inherent malice notwithstanding.
The second problem was the person who had shot into the sky- towards the red beam, by the disheartened cries of their team- and then they simply dropped hitting the ground with a crunch.
Verai felt his hand reflexively tighten on Kazuki's arm.
"How are we going to get there?" He asked, more of a musing than a real question.

By the time they'd crossed through the ducklett circle, Silvermoon was laughing. ibis' energy was infectious, even despite the chaos and destruction around them. "Your wings are so pretty..." They gushed, gently. Verai, too, had wings... were there more? Was that something Silvermoon should have gone for? They cast a wistful glance back towards where the table had been-
Only for it to now be gone, replaced with... two big canons. "What- what is that?" They asked, a note of fear worming into their voice.
Cygnus' explanation didn't... clear anything up. And worse the- the game got fuzzy? There? For a moment? The ui wasn't showing words, and the audio got all weird. That was odd... but- Cygnus' words were worse. Something that hadn't been tested on women? Silvermoon bit the inside of their lip.
And then somehow, everything got worse. Cygnus said go, and someone shot off like a rocket- with a bigger glider than Silvermoon had grabbed- but they were headed... right for the red light. Hadn't Cygnus said-
They hit the light, and instantly fell, like all control in their body had been lost. Silvermoon could only stare, hands tight on the handles on their glider. Was this even remotely safe? Was this something any of them should be doing?
Should Silvermoon have even come over to do this quest?

Adarsa slowly blinked his eyes open. He was looking up at the sky, still daylight but dark and intense with purpose and potential. He was falling, drifting slowly through rain-touched air. The wind was cool, ruffling his cloak and ruff around his shoulders, but he didn't feel afraid. It felt... peaceful. Like he was right where he was meant to be.
A voice cut into his hazy thoughts, not the voice of of a lover, but... the strangely female voice of his ex. Adarsa's brows furrowed, and he looked up at her face- She seemed content, at a bare minimum, like this was someplace she belonged. But-
But where was that?
Adarsa realized he was not laying down, floating, but instead he was being carried- Tuesday holding him by the shoulder and under the knees. "What-" He squawked, naturally and predictably writhing a bit in Tuesday's arms, unable to get out in any capacity. "Why- Didn't we do it? I thought- Didn't we get through the rings?!" He cried, not understanding how any of this worked. When Tuesday shouted, he swiveled a bit, trying to locate Saint. How could Tuesday have just.... lost him?
Could he fly on his own? He had no idea. And, besides... it was nice being this close to Mars again...

Tiernan kept a worried eye on Rose Garden, as if worried she would fall. He kept as near to her as he could, angling between far enough to not seem crowding, and give her distance, but close enough to help should she need it- which, thankfully, she didn't seem to. His goal, then, was her, rather than the swarm of ducks.
As such, Cygnus' words meant little. He only looked back to the man when his words warped, directly over the consequences of the red light. A red and green light... that wasn't very accessible.
But things happened quickly, as they had for the last challenge, with trainers flying off in all directions. Tiernan glanced for Fairytale, but couldn't see them- hopefully they were well, after having... wandered off on their own during a team challenge.
Ah, well- he moved closer to Rose, and squinted up at the dancing light in the sky. "We can get up there, can't we?" He asked, not sounding concerned but confident, giving the younger trainer a smile. They would reach the top- of that he was confident.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/1114138222038106173/1114206910871261274/kallisto3~jpg Well, at least Zac was able to get through the ring. Which was fine, because it didn't look like one was going to be eliminated from this event unless they were completely incapacitated, which was also not a good thing because there was indeed a possibility of that happening. He kept a careful eye at his teammates before hearing what Cygnus had to say, but winced at the sound of static or some kind of garbled noise for some parts of that message. The red did what? Ugh, as much as it piqued his curiosity, it would be best not to get hit by it. Find and fly to the green, avoid the red, that didn't seem to be difficult--
And one such person decided to test it out, or maybe sacrifice herself in favor of getting her teammates a better shot -- no, it looked like she was just excitable and paid the price for it. Shaking his head in disdain, he focused his attention back to his teammates, namely one that was starting to go off way from the birds/ducks and couldn't perceive the green lasers much further up. ❝This is dangerous, we will need to get to a laser and then go to the ground as quick as possible.❞ he again thought about holding one of the handlebars on Zac's bicycle to guide him properly, but what if a red laser crossed through them and hit them both?
Ah, if they weren't going to move, then Zac was going to go off on his own. ❝Hey, not sure if you heard Cygnus, but we need to fly higher to reach the green lasers. Let's try to reach a higher altitude first.❞ he made sure to raise his voice in case he couldn't be heard, but to hell with acting like how he was supposed to look like right now, the situation was crazy as it is without his supposedly brooding nature. He was fairly sure that Morpheus was able to get the instructions too, but it was hard to keep track of them both while the sky was peppered with other players trying their hand at flying and whizzing around.
A couple of moments later, the red laser would suddenly cut through players, narrowly missing many as it soared and swiped around in the air. Looks like its playtime with the first player ended, and now it was ready to look for more prey. It hadn't swiped too close to where Kallisto and his teammates were, but as soon as he thought that, it started to move towards their direction. He called out to the others to avoid it, but just as he was about to move away as well, it seemed to decide to focus on him, making the laser graze his shoulder. Even if it wasn't a direct hit, it somehow felt like he was burned--no, something else--he couldn't quite describe it but it hurt like hell. It seemed to concentrate on where it grazed his skin before feeling like it was creeping through the rest of his body, but since he didn't bathe his whole body in the light, he was still able to keep the wings in flight. Things were starting to spin though, fuck.
❝What kind of blasted, stupid event is this?❞ he snarled, thinking if he should just go back to the ground or still try to reach the green light anyway. Against better judgment, he flew upward, squinting as he tried to aim for the closest green laser he could find.

Zac took to flight like a newborn Ducklett to water, which is to say not very well, at risk of death, and very, very thankful for the life-saving assistance of his teammates @kallisto and Morpheus. With their shouted advice he managed soar clear through the ring and, following the sounds of cheering and explosions, pedaled his bike into a slow turn that took him out past the training field boundaries and then back towards the flight zone.
"We did it guys!" Buzzster called, disregarding the fact that they had completed 1/3 of the assigned work. "I'm coming back!"
Again, his flight was spotty, and with no way of telling where the green light was shining the next test would be completely impossible for him to complete on his own. "This calls for teamwork!" he said, angling the nose of his bike down in a startling trajectory.
"I'll swing straight through and pick you up and then we can all ride to the green beam together!" he called to his team, aiming at where he assumed they would be standing. "You two just scream my name so I know where you are!"

Laguna and Sarah Lee made a marvelous pair. They weighed the same (or near enough for the game's balancing system to call it even), and with their arms linked the anti-gravity effect of Sarah's belt merged with the natural manouverability of the surfboard to provide one hell of a smooth ride. It was like they were surfing across waves of buoyant foam, being lifted higher into the air with every turn.
As Laguna kept them swerving smoothly towards the goal, Sarah had one hand on her altimeter. Moving up and down had never been the problem for her, and now that she could focus on fine-tuning their height she felt the feel for flying really kicking in.
She felt the heat of an explosion behind them and accounted for the incoming wave of heat, pulling them down just as the unwanted updraft sought to send them up and over their goal. They cruised easily through the ring of Ducklett, and after Cygnus explained the next challenge she set her sights on the green light high in the sky.
But where was Bergamot Gristleborg?
"I don't like this," Sarah said, eyes darting across the field like the protagonist in a teen horror movie. "I just know she's around here, waiting to pop out. But she already did her grand entrance! Nobody could possibly have planned two dramatic entrances for the same event, right?"

"Thanks, dude, grew 'em myself" Ibis beamed, that same infectious energy growing like that of some kind of nuclear explosion. But then everything got fuzzy for a moment, and his UI - his UIs, plural? - shook. His minimap popped up, then closed, then opened again, and then another opened, then it opened upside down, then it - hey, where was Silvermoon ?
"Hey, that one's not green..." He tries to dissuade as he sees his new teammate heading towards the wrong beam, and as they head only closer to the red beam, he calls out again. "Hey!"
This wasn't gonna end well, considering other people who hit the beam were smacking back down towards the floor like a hunk of rocks, and sure enough it only takes brief contact with the beam for Silvermoon to start descending, fast.
Ibis turns to Muin , who he realises he's still gripping onto. "Oh, ah, sorry-" then points to their descending silver-haired teammate. "...You coming with me?" The whole I'm going to go help them thing is undebatable, the real question is whether Muin wanted to help. Ibis couldn't imagine he wouldn't, though, since Muin was just a super nice guy. Kinda icy and stoic, sure, and acted sometimes like he didn't wanna be around him, sure, and also was pretty blunt, sure. Not to mention... okay, that wasn't what he needed to think about right now. Muin was nice, Silvermoon was in danger, and it didn't matter about hitting the green light if they all didn't do it together.

His reason for aiding Jinx is simple: It’s a team exercise, they’ll likely get penalized for not cooperating. Ensuring the kid doesn’t get blown into the stratosphere is simply playing the game right. (And also, maybe, just maybe, he’s sick of seeing small, overly-helpful green puffballs meet terrifying fates. MAYBE.)
And they do make it through the ring by a miracle that even Cygnus finds impressive. The old man’s speech resumes, for Kazuki in one ear and out the other again—at least until he starts speaking gibberish. Gibberish that has Kazuki leaning forwards, trying to listen closely because he swears that something about it is so familiar—
But as quickly as it came, it’s gone, and the next phase of their lesson is commenced by someone instantly eating shit on the pavement. Kazuki makes a choking noise of poorly-concealed laughter as he recognizes the victim as M'Foxy. No guilt here though, she seemed to be in good hands—or good bandanas.
He feels fingers squeeze his arm, which is surprising since he hasn’t attempted anything yet, and when he glances at Verai, the man only contemplates out loud. Kazuki does not say anything, nor does he shrug his hand off.
“We need a boost. Green beam’s nearly twice as high as the ducks, but we can’t risk another explosion with the red beam so close to the ground.” He clicks his tongue, disappointed. “Maybe if your wings were faster…”
Wait. They’re artificial wings. His eyes trail over to the metal gadgets mounted on his teammates’ backs, squinting at the wires and the intricate construction. He’s not smart enough to know how this works, but it has to be powered by electricity, especially since Jinx’s wings have lights.
“I think I can juice those up. Ready for another experiment?” He lets go of both of his teammates, raising his hands as electricity dances and crackles over his palms. He reaches for the contraptions as Titanius pivots the cannon, the red beam quickly approaching behind them.
