In the distance, a considerable ways off from his teammates after getting lost in the mayhem of the previous round’s scuffle, Saint pokes his fluffy brown head out from his Masqueplane. He squints, seeing a multicolored cape streak past the sky, and what looks to be starlitlover in a bridal carry. He sees Tuesday open her mouth, but does not hear jack shit over the commotion. He pulls his head back inside his glider.
sorry, i didn’t hear what you said. but i’m glad you two are safe. um, we should probably get to the green beam now. i’ll be okay. my glider isn’t very fast, but it’s good for precise flying. if your cool board is actually modeled after the solar surfers in treasure planet, you should be able to accelerate considerably by folding your sail, aiming the engine to the ground, and hitting the pedal again. the tailwind will also help my glider ascend. you might have some trouble once you’ve actually reached the ‘peak’, as i’m uncertain if you can return to a stable position while carrying someone. it’s okay though. i think i can catch you.
It’s a lot of text, and Saint wishes sorely he could edit and trim it down to more succinct instructions, but he’s typing and piloting at the same time. He sends them, hoping Tuesday will understand, before directing the Masqueplane to start moving towards the green beam, the little rudders underneath, designed after the namesake’s wings, twirl hard to propel to greater heights.

Ding! A new message stops Tuesday from responding to starlitlover's confusion with a teasing yet ultimately helpful remark. Ding! Ding! Ding! And then another and another and another... "Oh, shit... Sec, I need to open my UI..." How to do so when both her hands are holding Ada's weight up? Yeah, sure, she could let him go, but they are in midair, and even if he has wings on she's not sure if he ever actually figured out how to fly. Plus, to be honest, she's kind of enjoying this part... "Ugh... Uhmm... Yeah... Maybe like this... No. Hmm... How about...." Usually, her set up has it so her UI will open when gesturing with one hand, but somehow she manages to get it to appear by scrunching up her nose and swaying that exceeding fluffy tail of hers. She grins then. "Ha! There we go, knew I could do it!... Oh, it's Saint! Damn, that's actually pretty helpful. Let's see...""Eh... That'll do to get the message across. Alright, Ada, we're about to go up fast, so lean in closer to me and hold on tight."It's at this moment that Tuesday gives Starlitlover the same kind of smirk Mars used to often give Adarsa once upon a time. The kind that is confident, daring, mischievous, and doubtlessly, fucking reckless. And, just like that, without any other warning, she steps on the pedal next to the folded sail, making the board accelerate in a loud and sudden burst. "FUCK YEEEEEEEEEAH!!!"She laughs as they rapidly ascend, but despite how much she's enjoying it, Tuesday makes sure to firmly hold onto Starlitlover through it all, keeping their weight towards the back of the board so that the tip remains pointing upwards. They go fast, too fast to allow for much control, but Tuesday's eyes are on the prize, and within seconds, they cross their sparkling green finish line. Only then does she let the sail back up, granting stability to the solar glider, but even then she laughs. "Damn. Ada, we should do this again sometime."Grinning, Tuesday turns back, watching for Saint to ride the tailwind towards the beam. They've totally got this.

To tell the truth, Bergamot had made no attempt to pass through the ring of Ducklett with the other Women's Suffering activists. She had made no attempt to fly at all so far, in fact, and had instead been combing the ground level, fishing for compliments.
"Oh, look at me," she said, showing one of the Mythstar NPCs her arm, where she had rubbed a smear of dirt. "Aren't I ever so... what's the word. It's on the tip of my tongue..."
"Does anyone have a word to describe my current state? Preferably five letters, beginning with D," she said to one of the Creed goons, pointedly.
"Might there be..."
Morgana saw Laguna and Sarah Lee pass overhead on Laguna's surfboard. passing perfectly through the Ducklett ring and headed straight for the green Training Beam. "Oops! Looks like my ride's here. Gotta gooo!" she said, raising her hand glider into the air with one arm like someone trying to estimate the height of an NBA player.
She hadn't bothered participating in the second round because, unlike the rest of these n00bs, she was basically a pro at flying already. She'd massively abused her Swimmer priviliges at the start of Beta to skip Challenge Tower levels, fly between areas of Beta Island, and make dramatic entrances/exits at the drop of a hat.
This hand glider was no Guillotine, but it would do. (Guillotine was a Piplup, not an execution device).
"TA-TA-TAAAA!" she announced herself gloriously as she kicked off from the ground. The hand glider buzzed in her hand like a model plane, wings unfolding with a satisfying click as the wind caught them. They snapped out at clean angles, cloth and metal working together to create incredible lift and stability. It was a miracle of modern science.
PSEEEW!
The Red Beam cut her down like a clothesline, sweeping the airspace with the laser-accurate brutality of C0D13. Bergamot went down with an indignant squawk, her only saving grace the fact that her bell-shaped skirt formed a kind of frilly blue parachute as she fell.
Laying in a heap in the dirt, Bergamot managed to raise her head and croak "Can anyone... think of... something... to call me..."

Muin takes a deep breath. The list of things that make him uncomfortable about this situation keeps growing exponentially, and it's really hard to think clearly about all of it when ibis is still so close to him. So close, in fact, that even in this thin, high-altitude air, Muin can clearly smell that slight delightfully charred scent that he associates with the Kindler, and if it weren't for all the chaos going on around them, he'd probably focus way too much on that detail. Silvermoon's distress happens to provide for a great distraction. Which... yes, is not at all good for Silvermoon, but Muin sure welcomes the change of pace. ...Pun never intended. "Of course." Is all he says in response to Ibis' question, and despite the fact that he never seems to be in a rush, Muin does make his way towards Silvermoon's glider, adjusting a few of the dials on his belt after having finally figured out which one does what. "Silvermoon, are you alright?" Is the first thing he asks when reaching the other's side. "Gliders seem to mostly move with the currents, so you might want to ride someone's tailwind up to the green beams."It's simple in theory, but in practice? For now, it's simply to help his teammate up, grabbing onto the glider and turning a dial on his belt to go up towards the green beams. Now... Where the hell is Ibis?

This was easier than she thought it would be. Sarah Lee 's gravity belt actively helped smooth things out, and it was incredibly similar to actual surfing. Now she really hoped that Cygnus would let them keep these devices, not just for the upcoming raid.
Her legs gently steered the device, swerving through the air as they aimed directly for the green light. She didn't understand how it would somehow, magically, make her better at flying. But then again, nothing in this world had to rely on normal laws of reality anyways. For all she knew, the light would impart like stolen bird instincts into her brain.
She didn't really want to question where Cygnus might have gotten those from, anyways.
As her partner asked where Bergamot Gristleborg was, her eyes narrowed as she searched the crowd in the sky and the ground, trying to find the silly imposter of a woman.
"Oh, look, there she is." Laguna would point down, watching the woman rise up into the air with her glider. "Looks like she'll be coming up to meet us after all-"
Only to then instead, watch her fall down to the ground as the red beam swept right across her.
Up high in the sky, it was hard to tell what was really happening at ground level, but she couldn't help but let out a soft sigh. "... I know we're both going to regret this, but we should probably help her, shouldn't we? I don't know what Cygnus said that red beam does, but enough to make them drop to the ground, at least."
Maybe, after soaring through the green light. That seemed like the logical course of action.

Rose's little machine puttered rather cutely as it ascended into the air, slowly turning on her command as she attempted to keep close to the older man who looked like he was from some fantasy series. She knew Lord of the Rings! With like, Legless, Gomlo, Frobo and stuff... right? She didn't really know anything about it. She just knew the cool elephant scene, which actually was really sad because the elephant died, but the archer man took it down by himself, and that was neat because it made the bearded man upset.
Shaking her head to focus on the here and now, Rose gently fiddled with the joysticks as the device flew. "I wonder what happens if I push all these other buttons..." Rose mumbled to herself, kicking her feet back and forth.
"Huh? Oh, yeah!" She finally responded to Tiernan Oaktread. "We can make it! Just you know, fly through the green light. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!" She seemed so proud of herself for using that saying as if she had invented it. Sitting there all smugly grinning.
But that curiosity of the other buttons, tempted her. Maybe she should ask the old friendly man to read some of these little words on the board here. She didn't know what a lot of it meant. Out loud, she spoke, trying to sound it out as she looked at a small button behind a little glass panel. "Uhhh, do you know what an Eeeegecktour Seat is?"

Morpheus sighed once his team got through the Ducklett ring. Despite some issues thanks to Buzzster Hooperham, they managed to pass the first test without falling off from the sky. However, the brief respite was cut short when the NPC, Cygnus released several colored beams to the players. According to him, they needed to avoid the red beams while heading to the green that acted as a finishing line. That would have been easy on paper if it wasn't for a crazy man named Zac.
He almost got hit by one of the red beams, but he managed to spin himself out of the way before it could happen. @kallisto was right, he couldn't stay in the air for too long. If they wanted to pass this, he might as well follow his instructions and get to a higher altitude first. Of course, they need to deal with the red lasers first.
"Don't get hasty, you two! Getting to a higher altitude should be a good idea, but we need to get into a formation if we want to escape from this laser hell. Follow me!"
He was cursing mentally that this was a stupid and risky idea, but there was no way this crazy old man would let them rest. He maneuvered his wings and spun them in a 180 so they would avoid the lasers. He would do this a few more times and if his teammates would follow, there was a chance they might able to reach a few green beams before they could reach them.

Apparently the guild leader guy hadn't actually been expecting them to make it through the ring? That was... obnoxious. Jinx never cared for the whole rigged, impossible test thing, even when it was supposed to be "practice" or a "test of character" or some such. All that did was discourage people and prove that you either didn't know or didn't care about their limits.
Also there were no prizes for succeeding regardless, apparently, which was rather disappointing, and Jinx wrinkled her nose in annoyance a bit once that part clicked for her.
And then the man spoke some sort of weird gibberish? Were they supposed to be able to understand that, or be able to decode it like some big puzzle? Jinx didn't know, but the general idea was still clear enough. Green beam good, red beam some sort of bad. And seeing others get hit by the red beam just made it all the more clear that yes, red beam bad.
And at least this time when Kazuki pulled his latest "experiment", Jinx had some sort of warning beforehand.
It was still a lot, soaring into the sky like that, but as she looked down and saw the red laser beam sweep past where they had just been, Jinx had to admit that it still beat the alternative. And as she turned her eyes upwards, the green beam got closer and closer, and- there it was, they were touching it, they did it-
And then their flying devices got amped up ever further, and they zoomed upwards even further, until they were above the green beam, above the other players, above just about everything...
Jinx gulped and did her best not to look down.

Cygnus watches multiple players crash directly into the red beam. He frowns, crumpling his moustache in consternation. It almost seems like they are trying to fail the task.
However, there is a silver lining to this cloud of mediocrity, and multiple players reach the green beam, working either in teams or as powerful solo flyers.
"That's enough!" Cygnus calls, and Titanius shuts off the red beam. A second later the Mythstar attendant switches off the green beam too. "Some of you may by starting to notice negative side effects from the Red Beam. However, I am happy to inform you that any such reports are pure placebo, as both beams are functionally identical." He strokes his moustache proudly. "That's right! There were two training beams, so anyone experiencing burning or infertility from contact with the red beam is not only a liar but also a skilled flyer!"
"On to the final round!" Cygnus calls, and with a wave of his hand Titanius wheels away the cannons and brings out a long judging table. Cygnus takes a seat, and is joined by the other guild leaders: the returning System Admin:Claw and the perpetually late System Admin:Chadwick of Round Two.
"Sup bros?" Chadwick asks, lounging in his chair. "Thanks for inviting me. Glad I got here just in time!" He laughs and leans over to offer CLAW a friendly fist bump. She eyes his proffered hand with low-lidded contempt, and taps out her long cigarette on his knuckles. "About time. You know, sugar, if I do recall your father never came late." She pauses meaningfully, then continues. "...to a big event. So sorry to hear of his passing, by the way."
"Haha, yeah, he was a bit more organized than me," Chadwick laughs, the implication going completely over his head. He kisses his fist and offers his fist bump to the heavens instead. "Rest in peace, pops! I'll take it from here!"
"Enough jibberjabber! This isn't public transit!" Cygnus commands, and CLAW settles back again. Chadwick sits up a little straighter.. "With your skills raised to their theoretical human maximum, there is now only one thing separating you from the greats: A signature move!"
"Work with your team to create a unique move utilizing your newfound skills." He sits back in his foldout chair, watching you all with eagle eyes. "We will be waiting for your best attempt."

M'Foxy peeled herself from the ground. Her glider was, by some miracle, unbroken, and thankfully she was the same. Her ui was still bugging out, and she pawed at it, more irriably until it went away. God, and something ate half her bytes. Probably inventory space, or who knew what. That was a tomorrow problem.
What was also a tomorow problem was Cygnus, who she was going to filet into cat food.
But, first, the bros. She heard them calling, and took her glider and carefully got into position, eagerly catching Big Bee's outstretched hand. The three flew, and M'Fox slowly got her brain cells straightened out.
Just in time for Cygnus to yell at them all again.
She then became absolutely feral, kept from lunging at the man by the sheer good graces of her bros at arms. "Two- Infertility?! Cygnus you rat BASTARD I'm going to SHOVE a placebo so far up your-"
Whatever else she hs to say is lost, because CLAW and Chadwick step into view. M'Foxy manages to listen, though her tails are huge, and her ears are twitching irritably every time Cygnus' polygons so much as shift.
"Signature move," She muttered, pulling off her bandana and diadem, tying her hair back with the bandana before replacing the little crown. "We've fucking got this- Let's show everyone else what some bros can do, when we knock our heads together." She gave Big Bee, and then orioncayge, a confident nod.

So the red beam had also been a good thing, gibberish warnings notwithstanding? Jinx was skeptical. She was no scientist, but the effects she'd seen on others hit with the red beam seemed awfully strong to be just a placebo effect thing. Plus, the guy was a proven liar at this point, so who was to say he wasn't lying now? Hell, who was to say that both beams weren't causing... infertility? Or whatever?
Cygnus had lied about their goals twice now, so Jinx went into their final task with some amount of trepidation. It wouldn't surprise her if it turned out that this, too, was some sort of trick, that the signature move would be... used against them, or used to limit them in some way, or... okay, Jinx wasn't great at thinking of potential twists here, but the point was, Cygnus (and the game designers behind him) clearly was.
But all that proved to be more or less moot, because with what information Cygnus did give about their new goal, the path forward seemed clear enough.
"Hey, team!" A bit awkward when there were only two other team members, perhaps, but Jinx still didn't know the name of the guy who wasn't Kazuki, and she didn't really feel like showing off that ignorance on her part. "If we need a signature move... well, I think it's pretty obvious what's set apart our team so far, right?"
She paused for a beat, willing to let the other team members speak up, before continuing.
"So. Kazuki, time for another one of your, uh, 'experiments'. What d'you wanna blow up this time?"

Calling Aero an invincible player would be a lie considering one: she barely dodged the lasers. Two: the Y formation was a bit shaky. And three: she has no idea what she was doing and it was pure dumb luck. Especially the part when Cygnus lied about the red beams being dangerous.
"You big liar! You almost gave us a heart attack!" Aero shouted to the Mythstar leader in annoyance. Though it didn't matter since he announced the final part of the test and this was enough to quickly changed her tune when she heard this. "A signature move? Hey, we can do that!"
She then turned to her teammates while regaining her altitude in the air. "Guys, how about we do some freestyle freefall like in those air shows on TV? It doesn't have to be perfect, but we might as well do it the awesome way! You know, like Victini firing its V Create!"
If Yggy Br00ks and @killian agreed, Aero was the first one who split off from the Y formation and started spinning around like a jet plane. Her flight was still shaky, but she managed to keep herself in the air as she hoped her teammates would follow her lead.

Big Bee nodded back at M'Foxy, and then turned to nod at orioncayge, and then the three of them all locked eyes in a weird triangle and nodded once together.
"Let's gooooo!"
He activated his helmet and took back to the skies, keeping tight formation with the others. "Everyone knows that our greatest power is our close, almost telepathic bond, as well as our synchronicity, naturally good timing, and our bandanas," Big Bee said, as they reached flexing altitude. "So I say we capitalize on that and make some sort of sick triangle formation. Perfectly symmetrical. Like a fractal of awesomeness. And then we buzz the tower like in Top Gun. Really show the judges how cool we are from nice and close. How does that sound?"
He struck his suggested pose, and got ready. He didn't have a lot of horizontal movement on his own (that was all Orion). "Just give me the signal when we get close enough and I'll swoop them, okay?"

"A signature move?" Zac said, zooming through the air, "that's easy! Performances are my forte!" And it wasn't a lie, either! He'd been a stage magician in Vegas for decades, and as little as Zac knew about Pokemon, video games, flying, or social cues, he sure as hell knew how to put on a good show.
He was starting to get the hang of this whole 'flying' thing, and he swooped in elegant sine-waves moving up and down through the smoky air.
"I've got a plan!" he called to his teammates, who were probably nearby. "You two hang on and I'll put us into a de- uh, a demonstration of aerial prowess...spiral." He could feel his Gardener powers already coming to life, and his sleeves overflowed with fragrant flowers. He was going to release them during the finale.
"Just grab on friends!" he called to @kallisto and Morpheus. "We'll show these judges a real signature move!"

"Ha! Man, that was a blast!"Tuesday still smiles brightly by the time they make it back to the ground, flying now seeming considerably easier. Is it really because of the beam or does it have something to do with the fact that she can use FLYING moves as a Player? Regardless, it looks like the group has finally been granted a moment to rest while Cygnus' goons set up a table (all guild leaders have goons according to her, since she's most familiar with C.L.A.W's), and Tuesday is quick to go meet up with her teammates... or, well, with the one teammate that hasn't stubbornly (and maybe adorably?) refused to leave her arms, that is. "Yo, Saint! Good thinking back there, you did great." She gives Saint a hearty pat on the back, having let go of starlitlover now that they're safely on the ground. Now, much to her disappointment, the table the goons had been setting up wasn't meant for them to have a feast, but instead for the guild leaders to sit and judge their performances. Which, really, is only a little disappointing, because that means C.L.A.W is there and of course Tuesday gives her a smirk before returning her attention to her team: "Alright, so, here's what I'm thinking: go big or go home. We go as high as we can and then drop down with our gear off, total freefall, but then when we're low enough we turn everything back on and glide the rest of the way in formation. Ada here leaves Gardener flowers behind as we go and I'll throw in a few other cool effects. Sound good? We've totally got this! It'll be sick."Tuesday grins when sharing her idea with her team, looking fully confident in their ability to pull this off... despite the fact that one of them has barely flown at all this whole time and that there are many many factors that are out of their control... What could possibly go wrong?
