Mechanical (Easy)ZONE D > ZONE A One attack from Zapdos was all it took to knock out Booger, the Slugma fainting the instant the electrical attack landed and sinking to the ground in a way that made Jinx's heart ache.
Jinx had assumed that getting out of Zone A had been the smart move, that leaving the platform where an attack had obviously been looming was for the best, but in hindsight... maybe not so much.
In fact, as Jinx let out her Falinks to replace the fallen Slugma in battle, she headed back towards the platform, ready and able to join the others making a stand there.
Plus, as she held her egg close, it occurred to her that it would probably be a good idea to have something underneath her feet, so that if and when the Pokemon inside hatched--and with all this commotion going on, the egg had to be getting jostled a fair bit already--it wouldn't have absolutely nothing besides Jinx's grasp on it to protect the Pokemon within from falling far, far below...
"Skipper, good job earlier. Let's him them even harder this time. How about a Rock Slide?"
The Marshtomp nodded and prepared to volley rocks at the immense foe before them all.
"And Horde... uh..." Jinx suddenly realized that bringing a Fighting-type to a midair battle may not have been her best tactical move. Strength in numbers could only go so far, after all.
"How about an Iron Head? Show Zapdos what a real Steel-type move looks like!" Jinx tried to sound more confident than she felt there... but honestly, it was hard to stay upbeat in the middle of this battle.

FreeformZONE A It was chilling.
From how the thin air whipped around them with icy lashes, from how the colossus in front of them strikes at them with a ruthlessness that was far too cold for her liking. Blood in her veins were reduced to a frosty slush, ice in her throat as she tried to swallow it back down. As much as she wanted to join up with Yggy and the others, she couldn't find it in herself (please be safe.) Pokemon fainted all around them, and while Giselle held strong, sparks dancing like fireflies around her, Mercurio was far too worse for wear. She knew better than to bring the Frogadier to such an environment. It would be cruel to leave him here, only to faint by the thunderbird's talons. "Mercurio, sweetheart, come back, come back..."
It was so chilling.
The frog held no complains, weakly struggling to stand on his feet as he was returned to his Pokeball. Ice huh? It was winter up here. It was time then. Replacing the Frogadier was her Glaceon, Aurora glancing around the chaos surrounding them. "Oh my, now... Odile, dear, what have we caught up into?"
Odile wished she could answer that properly, but how? With what context? Zapdos's words echoed in her head, thunder bouncing off the walls of her skull. Were they the baddies? The last thing she wanted was to be a baddie. Professor Ash had said this was only a battle because it had to be. Maybe there was still some hope for something else? Some talking? But with the way Zapdos spoke... well, maybe not.
Great. Just great. Enough about that though. This wouldn't be the first or last moral dilemma to weigh on her, but people did need her help. Odile knew that much. That's all she really needed to know. No, she wasn't a hero. She would leave the big damage to others who could dish it out. However, she could at least make sure those throwing out the big numbers kept throwing them out.
Her eyes couldn't help but to stray towards Tuesday, the magnificent armor and coat of feathers just drawing them to her. The Doublade by her side looked shabby; no offense to them. "Aurora, help that Doublade out. Please. They look like they need it. We can't let more Pokemon faint."
"Oh, with... oh with that one. Hm." Aurora thought about it for a moment, quickly noting Tuesday. Was she just a touch bitter about her defeat? You couldn't pull it out of her, but the sour taste in her mouth remained. "Well, I am magnanimous, am I not? I will help the rabble."
"Wait don't you dare help this little—"
A different kind of cold, one kinder flowed around the Glaceon, Giselle's words getting cut off before the the Icy Wind blew over, resting over the Doublade, healing what wounds it could. "They better give thanks, is all I will say on the matter."
"We'll talk about that after we're not thousands of feet in the air Aurora."

FreeformZONE B > Moving to Noonlight Shrine ❝Oh FUCK--❞
In hindsight, what did Comet expect? Of course Zapdos wasn't just going to fly there in static, this was an actual moving AI! He watched the attacks sail towards the flying bird, and thankfully he was not getting hit by them since they were concentrating mostly on the front, but there were explosions, and they were hella cool. Even the slightest movement though destabilized his footing and made him have to grab on the little amount of feathers that were sticking out of its body, clinging for his dear life. Kimchi, with no claws or opposable thumbs to speak of, was doing his best trying to stay on the bird with sheer grit and willpower. They both knew though that they weren't going to last long, and any moment of weakness meant they were going to fall to their death.
There was a moment that Zapdos hovered much more closely to ZONE A, and both of them knew this was their only chance of escaping. They shared a glance at each other. <Don't let go until I give the signal.>
Comet let out a laugh, ❝So dependable!❞
And then Kimchi sprang into action, using the wing's surface and his feet to propel himself forward like a spring. He called out when his trainer should let go, and the timing allowed him to fall into his arms as they zoomed past Zapdos' face and crash landed to a space on ZONE A, which was promptly cleared since the trainers and Pokemon there didn't want to get hit by a fiery boy and his Cinderace. Even with the reduced pain threshold, that still hurt! But in between groaning and whining, Comet was laughing. ❝That could've, ow, gone so so wrong.❞
<It was your idea to cross the cat bridge.>
❝But we stepped on Zapdos, how cool was that?!❞
And then the notif popped up. They were being summoned to another shrine off ways to stop another bird from joining the fray. Fun! How the hell were they going to accomplish that? No matter, he wasn't going to turn down an additional requirement on the quest if it potentially met he could get more prizes (or just see another legendary. This was Moltres this time, right?) So Comet hauled his aching body up and asked Kimchi if he wanted to return to the Poke Ball to rest for a while (they both must've taken some damage from the static, which was particularly painful so close to Zapdos; he could feel his skin prickle), but the Cinderace refused, because who knew what was going to happen? His trainer was crazy, this whole thing was crazy, but he wasn't just going to let Comet get blasted without him standing in front of him.
Ugh, maybe he cared too much.
❝Kimchi, over here! The pods!❞ Comet gestured quickly as the whole platform shook. Lightly shaking his head, the Cinderace followed, letting them both be teleported out of there and to the next adventure.

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE A
Lucille felt the chill in the air as her breathing started to turn into a faint fog the higher the elevator climbed into the atmosphere, following the titanous bird as it ascended, rising and rising to heights in which one would find it increasingly harder to breathe. The kindler rose her hands to bring the fabric of her charcoal-black bomber jacket closer to her frame in order to keep whatever body heat she had from escaping. Burying her face into the floof around the base of her neckline as a shiver ran along her spine. Shoving her gloved hands into the pockets of her jacket.
It was difficult to believe Nintendo had programmed something like this into the game but technology had come a long way since the years she had ceased playing handheld Pokémon games. Enough so that they were able to put on events on completely massive scales such as this. It was astounding, every detail felt real, breathtakingly so. From size to intensity of the feelings it evoked in each player, a living, breathing Pokémon world that never stood still, hell, there was even Rotom' that handed out inconspicuously branded energy drink products. Lucille had been part of this world for weeks at this point and she still wasn't used to the scale of it. It was so much bigger than her but she loved it, even if her reactions were rather stunted compared to others.
Zapdos had tried and failed to damage the platform, even going as far as to use the shrine grasped within its talons as a weapon of some sort. A loud booming voice rang out in the air as the thunderbird spoke to the players, some words were directed at certain players and others were towards no one particular player.
The words settled in Lucille's mind, snow-white eyebrows knitting together as she processed what the deity was arguing for. Humanity was expanding, population demanded it so, encroaching on territories that didn't belong to them. But it wasn't all bad, pokémon and humans went together like chocolate and peanut butter. It was a delicious combination and a beautiful companionship. The kindler shook her head, Zapdos was far from right about humans.
Aymr had pelted off of Zapdos' jagged feathers like a boomerang, returning to the platform with a pant and a huff, the air was thinning out. The fire mouse holding up one of his front paws in a makeshift thumbs up, though he had no digits to do so. Signalling that he was okay, much thanks to the Cyclizar that had passed off some protective energy to him which was a massive help in keeping him from being worse for wear. Then there was a Mew that had been floating around the platform, passing out heals to different players and Pokémon, the watery aura soaking into Aymr's skin, invigorating him to bounce and throw out his paws as if boxing his own shadow <Aye! Thank ya' Mew! I needed that. Alright! Lemme back at 'im!>
Lucille had to stifle the laugh that threatened to leave her lips, shaking her head ❝You know what to do, you don't need me telling you, Aymr. Byleth, you too!❞ On command the duo sprang into action, Aymr bouncing high into the air, spinning and curling up into a ball that was akin to a flame wheel without the fire. As if Aymr was a miniature planet with his own orbit, rocks began to circle him, adding to the inevitable rollout attack that was heading towards Zapdos once more.
Aymr used Rollout, doing 128 Damage
Byleth on the other hand was feeling the environmental chill, frost beginning to build against her scales as she struggled to keep her body filled with warmth, unlike her fiery-blooded friend who seemed to be faring a lot better in the icy air. Her eyes were gradually growing heavier, her body threatening to lock up as it grew colder by the second.
❝Byleth?❞ Lucille's gaze flickered to the green serpent dragon ❝Byleth! You alright there?❞ Byleth seemed to perk up slightly, shaking her head and patting her noodle-like arms against her face in order to wake herself up out of her stupor a bit <H-Huh? Y-Yes mama! I'm ok. It's just... real cold. I'm really feeling it.> ❝Think you could attack Zapdos with Astonish? I'll let you warm up in my jacket when you get back, alright?❞The Dreepy blinked at the sudden offer, she was going to be allowed to cuddle up in her 'mothers' jacket? That thought alone was enough to motivate Byleth to attack. Warmth! She wanted it so badly! She would quite literally smack Zapdos out of the sky if it meant she could warm up around a nice campfire after all this was over.
Byleth used Astonish, doing 56 Damage

Mechanical (Hard)ZONE A > Moving to Zone CTuesday does not shy away from cheers as the battle ensues, her bloodthirsty enthusiasm perhaps only enhanced by the delightful drink in her hands. This post is sponsored by T Fuel."FUCK YEAH! FUCK HIM UP, ORION!" She calls for orioncayge when his incredible attack hits Zapdos, beating up giant Pokémon seeming to be becoming a bit of a pastime for these armour buddies. It sure is a fun hobby. But then, when Sarah Lee and Kazuki pull amazing stunts of their own? That one fills her with a familiar sense of pride... the one that these days Mars only feels when cheering for the football (soccer, for the Americans) team he has been supporting for years. "THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! CREED REPRESENT!"The problem is that The Creed may have represented a little too well. It's either that, or Zapdos has a grudge against them, but little does he know that this catgirl can hold a whole lot of grudges as well... "Oh, you fucker. I disliked you before, but now it's fucking personal." The Alchemist says in a quiet voice when her Rotom disappears in a flash of light. And see, it's not even about Pixel fainting, she had accounted for that part, it's about Zapdos having the audacity of bringing down her Pokémon one hit and then spewing all these nonsense about how they're the ones who are in the wrong here. Good thing she has never minded playing the role of villain. "Ancile. ESCAPE back to your Pokéball."<'My liege, are you certain?'>"Yes." She nods solemnly in return, he gaze fixed on her enemy. "I'll call you back when I need you by my side again. Right now, I need Tyrfing."<'As you say, my liege.'>The ice cold chains that had been wrapped around her forearm unravel, and with a final bow, the Cryogonal leaves Tuesday to stand all on her own on this rising platform. She stands her ground even. She withstands the cold, not once looking away from Zapdos. And, when her empty can of T Fuel is placed back in her inventory (say no to littering) and her blades appear in her grasp, she smirks at the glorious hum of their metal. <'Finally.'> Tyrfing sings, her voiced echoed in a hiss, for she is a single mind in two sharp bodies. The blades crave violence, they're at home in this battlefield; their battle cry pounding like steel war drums while one of their sashes slithers up Tuesday's adorned gauntlet. <'May we slash through our foes. May we cut deep. May we cause despair an agony. May we relish in our victory.'> "That's what I'm talking about. YO! CHICKEN! DID YOU HEAR THAT?!" The left blade is dropped decisively, the right one being used to point at the gargantuan legendary. "YOU WANT ME TO FEEL SORRY FOR A PRINCE? THE ONLY THING I FEEL IS THAT YOU'RE A ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS. WAKE THE FUCK UP, MONARCHIES ARE DONE FOR. YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST RULE EVERYTHING AND DO WHATEVER YOU WANT? THAT THIS PLACE BELONGS TO YOU BECAUSE IT'S YOUR BIRTHRIGHT? NAH, IF YOU'RE A DICK OF COURSE PEOPLE WILL CHALLENGE YOU. WE ARE NO ONE'S SERVANTS. WE DON'T HAVE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT. WE DON'T HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOUR BULLSHIT OF TAKING THINGS ALL TO YOURSELF. WHAT ARE YOU? A PETULANT KID WHO DOESN'T WANT TO SHARE HIS TOYS?"She steps onto her fallen blade then, her gaze filled gelid determination and her smile made for the battlefield. Not once does she look away from her enemy. Not even when the blade rises and begins to turn to ice beneath her feet. "LET'S FIGHT FOR YOUR KINGDOM, CHICKEN PRINCE. I'LL FIGHT FOR ITS FREEDOM AND YOU'LL FIGHT TO RULE IT. MAY THE BEST SIDE WIN!"At that very moment, Tuesday charge along with her levitating blades, swiftly cutting downwards as had been suggested. Towards the release of the Giant Shrine. Towards freedom for the Surging Steppes. Towards Zapdos' defeat. Towards her revenge and victory. Ice marks every strike of the blade, a beautiful and dangerous dance that is currently the culmination of all the training Tuesday and Tyrfing had done together. They move in perfect synchrony, knight and sword, and even when the armoured Alchemist jumps off the second blade and onto one of Zapdos' great wings, the dance continues. Slashing through the air, both swords that form this Doublade meet, hitting Zapdos' chest with one last strike that swells in an enormous explosion of pure ice. It's as this strike hits that Tuesday looks back towards the elevator, her gaze finding the Glaceon that she had helped odile obtain. Elegantly, she bows a silent thanks towards trainer and Pokémon alike, for a notification had informed her of the aid the Pokémon had provided while she was preoccupied with making speeches of war and preparing her attack. Mechanical (Hard)ZONE A To Zone B
Orion clenched his jaw tight. Much had happened, and all of his friends were fighting the good fight to help bring this shrine home. Hell, he'd even done his damndest to knock this bird out of the air, yet...
Something about the legendary bird's words made his stomach churn.
To them, taking the Giant Shrine had been seen as an act of aggression, the theft of something they desperately needed in order to help banish the corruption that had once swept over the land. But to Zapdos? They were invaders, scrambling over his land like vultures picking at the bounties whilst it's protector was away. Now he was home and he was driving out the pests, taking what was his and doing what he could to protect his home.
A Home he'd already lost once.
The anger and adrenaline he'd once relished in but just a moment ago soured in his mouth like a mountain of spoiled icecream coated in rotted bacon bits. He and Bee had just talked about this, over food and chatting like they were some profound scholars about the way forward with AI- no- people and finding peace in general was supposed to be with open arms not raised fists. The air grew colder, but the resolve within Orion's gut only grew hotter.
"ARES!" Orion shouted. "YEAH BOSS?!" The boar roared, pounding his fists together. "ROUND TWO?" "SORTA!" Orion roared back over the whirling wind. "I NEED UPPIES! THROW ME AT THE FUCKER!" "WHA-" The Boar turned to look to Orion, but the fighter was already sprinting towards him, building up speed. "NO TIME FOR ANSWERS! TOSS ME AND CROSS THE CAT BRIDGE, RENDEVOIS WITH BEE AND HELP OUT! I'LL BE RIGHT THERE!"
The befuddled Boar hefted his master aloft, the fighter flipping frantically through the fight before pulling out his airboard and taking flight. Ares in turn opted for the use of Rollout, building up speed as he moved across the long cat bridge delightfully created by the squad before landing on the birds back with like a sack of bricks and a loud thud that was bound to be felt by the titanic beast.
Orion kicked his board into gear and dove for the divine beast, fists clenched tightly as he dove around the massive monsters maw, landing punches wherever he could to try and get the massive beasts attention before landing on it's beak. The perch was precarious, between the wind and the warrior he was standing on he could fall at any moment. Once wrong step would send him tumbling down to the earth in a potentially fatal free fall, but something in Orion's gut told him this was the way forward.
Something reaffirmed as he looked into Zapdos' eyes and saw a resolve that mirrored his own.
They both wanted the same thing, to protect the steppes from the corruption. To keep this world safe, and see it and it's denizens flourish. Now Orion just needed to get that through to him. Before that, he would send a message down to the ground, towards the professor.
"Professor!" Orion would call out, hoping they hadn't lost connection. "I'm gonna try something but I'm gonna need you to let me cook! Be ready to defend yourselves but cut any offensive plans you've got! Last thing I wanna do is calm him down and have you piss him off again." With that out of the way, and hoping that Ashe would listen to her favorite former pokemon Master, Orion would approach the massive bird.
"ZAPDOS!" Orion called out over the howling wind, arms outstretched as he walked a precarious tightrope towards the bird. He was right between it's eyes, so he sure as fuck hoped the damn thing could see him. "I WASN'T HERE WHERE THE CORRUPTION CAME, BUT I IMAGINE IT WAS HORRIBLE! IT SWEPT OVER THE LAND AND TOOK EVERYTHING FROM YOU! IT TOOK YOUR FRIENDS, IT TOOK YOU FAMILY, AND IT TOOK YOUR HOME!" He let the words hang in the air for a moment before continuing. "AND I KNOW IF YOU'RE ANYTHING LIKE ME, THAT MADE YOU FEEL WEAK, IT MADE YOU FEEL SCARED, AND NOW YOU'RE LASHING OUT IN ANGER BECAUSE THAT'S ALL YOU CAN DO." He wasn't even sure the massive titan could hear him, but the best Orion could do was pour his heart out and hope that a shred of his feelings reached through to him.
"YOU AND ME! WE'RE TWO BIRDS OF A FEATHER! AND WHEN WE'RE MAD, WE'RE BIG FUCK OFF HAMMERS! AND EVERYTHING IS A NAIL! BUT WE'RE NOT YOUR ENEMY! I'VE SEEN YOUR ENEMY! TENDRILS OF OOZE AND ROT! HORRIBLE MONSTERS THAT SEEK TO EAT THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD AND REDUCE IT TO NOTHING! PARASITES THAT MOCK THE LIVING AND DEFY DEATH!" Impassioned tears streamed down his face, brought on by the whipping wind and the whirling storm within his own heart. "AND IF WE WANT TO HAVE THE SHADOW OF A CHANCE TO BRING THEM DOWN WE NEED TO DO IT TOGETHER! NOT JUST ME, NOT JUST YOU, OR MOLTRES, OR ARTICUNO, OR ANYONE ELSE! WE NEED TO ALL BAND TOGETHER!" The fighter reached the halfway point, somewhere where he would be as close to the bird without entering it's blindspot. "BUT IF YOU WANT TO WORK THIS OUT WITH FISTS WE CAN! YOU AND ME! ONE ON ONE, I'LL TAKE EVERYTHING YOU CAN DISH OUT! ALL OF YOUR ANGER" He would slap his chest. "ALL OF YOUR SADNESS!" Another thump. "ALL OF YOUR FEAR! I'LL TAKE IT ALL, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT HURTS CAUSE THAT'S WHAT I DO!" His jaw clenched. "I FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL ALONGSIDE MOLTRES TO BANISH THE CORRUPTION FROM THE NOONLIGHT SHRINE! I DANCED THROUGH THE PHANTASMAL MINDGAMES OF THE PRETENDER TO FREE LORD ARTICUNO AND YOU! I'LL WEATHER YOUR STORM SO WE CAN BUILD A WORLD IN WHICH WARRIORS LIKE YOU AND I CAN BEAT OUR SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES AND REST ASSURED KNOWING WE DID THE HEAVY LIFTING SO FUTURE GENERATIONS COULD KNOW PEACE! BECAUSE YOU AND I BOTH NOW THAT THIS WORLD IS BIG ENOUGH FOR THE TWO OF US!"
Orion went to take another step forward, but his foot slipped and he tumbled to the side. The gust ripped him from his perch, slamming him against the beasts bristly feathers as he tumbled towards the rear of the beast. With the wind knocked from him, the best thing he could do was scramble to find a handhold along the mon, but instead he tumbled up and over the beast. By the time he managed to recover he was halfway up and over the titan's back. Using his trusty Magnetic boots, he planted his feet back onto his airboard and steered it to where his Emboar and Bee were awaiting him. Hopefully his message had gotten through to the Legendary.
The Alternative was something he didn't want to think too terribly much about.

Mechanical (Hard)ZONE D to ZONE A As soon as she launched off to the platform, Aero witnessed the Zapdos swinging its staff-like shrine to it. But thanks to her Onix's efforts along with other trainers', the platform remained standing, much to her relief. Yet, it wasn't enough for her to relax. Upon witnessing the large bird recognize her, Aero narrowed her eyes once she locked them with his. "Yes, I would! Kazuki, Verai, and I helped you! And this is the thanks we get?! I even helped made you armor, for crying out loud!" She still shivered at the fact she made the armor like a bikini. "At least I didn't mention that to my parents."
Then when she heard Zapdos's motives while flying behind him, Aero was growling at this surprising reason. "What the heck does that supposed to mean?! Aren't people and Pokemon supposed to co-exist with each other?! All you're doing is taking everything you wanted! You're no different than the ones you accused as thieves, you DUMB HYPOCRITE!!!"
The Zapdos then flew higher into the clouds above her and a window popped right in front of the Wild Prodigy.
INCOMING ICE-TYPE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE!
This was bad. Her Onix was horribly weak against Ice-type moves. She needed to act fast.
"Oh no, you don't!" Aero took out her Poke Ball and shouted, "Rocky, return! You can't survive that attack!"
Aero uses Escape. With that skill, she recalled her Onix back in his Poke Ball and turned to Zapdos while switching balls. "I get you're mad because of the changes in your home and how we somehow invaded it without your permission, but you can't just start taking everything like it's yours! Crystal!"
She tossed her Poke Ball and out came her Snom with a happy cry...
Right before he started falling.
"Whoops! My bad!" Aero quickly turned to her Gothotelle. "Lollie, take care of his back! I'll get Crystal!"
She dove down to catch her Snom while her Psychic-type fired rocks made of psychic energy at the Zapdos's back. Once Aero caught him, she changed direction and shouted, "Now follow my lead!"
Aero then flew passed the Electric/Flying-type bird as she attempted to land back at the platform she was first spawned in.

FreeformZONE A It was an all out attack. Everyone and anyone gave zapdos a piece of their mind. And while some straight up attacked with brute forced, other provided much needed healing or prepared for a counter from the electrifying bird. Much to Rhaenyra’s surprised, their preparations worked in their favor. Zapdos rose the lead pipe despite the onslaught of attacks, swinging it wildly at them only to miss its attack. The hybrid let out a breath of air, relieved. However, it wasn’t done yet.
Zapdos growled angrily, calling out someone out within the many that surround it while others plead to know what was he wanted. Suddenly, the electric bird sends out shock waves energy. Wolf ears twitched to the sounds of screaming in panic, Rhaenyra feeling her heart race. Zapdos called out to them more, more anger in each of his words. It targets certain players, unleashing a portion of his wrath on them before ascending further up into the sky.
A jerk off the elevator catches the wolf girl off guard, stumbling slightly as she can’t help but keep her eyes on the legendary. In that moment, Rhaenyra’s eyes widen as Zapdos spoke. Did… Did it just call for back up… from… Moltres? Little paper birds scatter within a blink of en eye. They were doomed.
A harsh chill was in the air, every exhale of a breath casted a wisp of heat from her mouth. Pulling her furred lined red jacket tighter, her gaze still fixed on the Zapdos. “Let’s keep the heat on you two,” the woman called out to her creatures, a hand rose to point to the emery, “Izumi use flame charge. Ziryan use metal sound.” The Braixen gave a firm nod, waving her stick wand before her. A flame ignited in the tip of the stick. She waved it around gracefully, only to send a wave of FLAMEs CHARG(E)ING at the Zapdos. Meanwhile, the type null emitted a low growl that rattled in her helmet. Dark gaze fell upon the creature, mouth parted to emitted an ear piercing METAL on metal SOUND towards the legendary.

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE A > ZONE D It’s a familiar feeling: the surging power, the bright lights, the soaring heights. It’s the closest feeling to invincibility. They charge towards plumage as vibrant as the sun, black sparks fading under the scorching heat, and are sent falling to earth in turn.
What Kazuki needs to remember is that the consequences of his actions extend beyond him.
Waffle twists in the air, his eyes wide with shock, his mouth pulling into an open-mouthed grin as he turns to Kazuki reaching to grab him, already beaming with pride—
—Only for the tip of a skyscraper to pierce through his armor as if it’s aluminum foil, impaling his little body with ease. All movement ceases, his eyes stuck to nothing, his mouth an ‘O’ of shock before he comes apart at the seams, shattering and bursting into a thousand intangible little pieces.
It throws Kazuki completely off balance, his plan of descent abandoned – he crashes on the platform violently, armor denting and pieces flying off with every rebound until he finally settles in a heap of battered flesh and steel, bleary eyes all that can take in the simple notification that says Sprigatito has fainted! He does not hear the sound of a Pokeball snapping open.
He struggles to get on his elbows, peeling his face off the platform. Pain radiates through his body, from the skull-rattling impact to the sear of fresh wounds. His stained blood screams to retaliate. That fucker had killed his cat, but his body won’t move, stiff with pain and strain—and this, too, is familiar.
The beating heat of floodlights. A stiff and unyielding arena under his hands. Raising his head to an impossible opponent, finding the victory he once held in his fingers now as far beyond as the stars.
What good would it do, to charge now? To fight back with all his might? His health is on slivers, the boon gone, and his partner reduced to data. It is futile.
And just like that time, Kazuki is forced to grit his teeth, grit until he cracks molar, as the palm of his hand meets the mat.
<Boss, you alright?> Scorbunny hops up to his trainer, trying and failing to aid him as he struggles back to his feet. The man is heavy.
Kazuki does not respond. He should be strategizing– the battle has just begun– but his mind is a dysfunctional tape. It stutters and rewinds, unable to comprehend how he endured, but Waffle hadn’t. He knows his survival had been sheer dumb luck, a combination of HEAL and GUARD lent by generous trainers, but how could Waffle have gone unguarded? Verai has two tanks.
And that’s when his eyes catch it. From the corner of his screen, a flood of notifications, and his gaze moves up from the growing list of casualties and panicked messages to latch onto a golden name.
It isn’t rage, but cold that washes over him. A numbing, all-consuming humiliation. It is an open wound ripped anew, a voice laughing in his head as it says 'You should have known better.' It says he should have learned, back at Mistra, not to expect what was never promised to him or who he cares for.
Because in reality, there is no such thing as heroes– only people who are good at pretending.
Scorbunny protests, but is unable to stop his trainer as he goes on a warpath, his eyes seeing only red red red RED. Verai is at the front, offering himself to Zapdos– it will be easy. His hand is already encased in powered ice, ready to smash into that traitor’s—
FWAP!
“What the fuck!?” Kazuki winces as something smacks him in the face. He opens his eyes to a little pink cat floating in front of him, wielding a wet pool noodle. It smacks him again, delighted, and above his avatar pings green text: +81 HP! The system log helpfully informs him he’s been healed by Domino’s Mew.
The flying kitten giggles, offering only a happy little wave before it departs. The chat in the corner of his screen updates, and he sees Domino’s messages, calling him out in public.
Scorbunny finally catches up to him, blinking as he sees the ice around his trainer’s fist melting into a puddle. Kazuki stands there for a moment and types at the air.
We got it down to 851! Shit was a damn good attempt, no regrets.
“What am I doing?” Kazuki thinks aloud. He needs to pick up the slack. His selfishness has already bit him in the ass once; chasing old obsessions will reward him nothing. He pulls out his UI, feeling his avatar shift as he switches himself out of battle. The armor around him feels lighter, purely cosmetic now.
Steelix pops out of his ball, the giant shipwreck creaking as he curiously takes in his opponent. <BIRD?>
“Yes, big bird. Big pain in the ass.” Kazuki looks around, assessing the field. He is tempted for a moment by the idea of reviving Waffle, but to do so now would be useless. “Rabbit, head for Tuesday’s team. We’ve taken on some heavy losses, we need to top up whatever’s left.” He activates the antigravity belt around his waist (which he really should have kept on at the start, damn it.) “Snake, take cover. NOW.”
Steelix hums, his crumbling exterior grinding together as he condenses himself into a hard wall, the debris flying around the rising battlefield ricocheting off his armor back to its source. When the coast is clear, Kazuki gives the signal.
They fly. Scorbunny briefly charges for Tuesday’s loyal blades, Kazuki cackling as his guildmate goes ham on the bird roast and turkey slicing. Between the antigravity belt and Scorbunny adding navigational aid with AGILITY, travel is actually quite swift and controlled, at least compared to Kazuki’s preferred method.
As they move past Zapdos’ eye, Kazuki regards the Prince. He could scream at him. Yell his fucking lungs out for all the grief he has wrought, but he doesn’t.
“I’m not going to monologue at you,” Kazuki scoffs. “No cue cards. Plus, you fucked with my cat. But you should know the volcano guy wasn’t lying when he mentioned the corruption. You can see it on me.”
And he smiles serenely, despite it all. “Since you took the shrine, the barrier protecting Asper broke, and now the Mistra area is an open breeding ground for corruption. Just chock full of them, eating life, multiplying. Full to spilling.”
“And your highness,” he goads. “I don’t know if you’ve looked down since you started loitering up here, but can you guess what’s right next to it?”
He breaks out into laughter, at which point Steelix’s tail grabs him like a cane around the neck of a horrible ventriloquist dummy, yanking him off the stage to Zone D.

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE A > ZONE B H0LYN3V1L was not annoyed, he was doing fine. He was doing so fine. It didn’t matter that it looked like basically everyone else was doing way more damage than him, he attacked first! Clearly he was still the best. Probably. His shoulders were steadily rising up closer to his ears as he hunched more and more, muttering to himself about how he read the strats, he was the best fighter.
At least Capsakid was having a good time, with each attack everyone else landed on Zapdos the little plant started to head bang. <Burn it all. Burn it all> he chanted.
Fletchling and Snivy made their way back and landed in front of H0LYN3V1L and Snivy stormed up to him and kicked him in the shin. <What the hell! You actually threw me! That has to be, like, some sort of abuse or something. I could have died!>
H0LYN3V1L was pulled from his bitter musings to glare at Snivy. “But you didn’t, did you? You’re totally fine.”
<Yeah, only because other people helped me!>
H0LYN3V1L sneered. “What, and you expect me to thank them?” He turned to the battlefield in front of him and yelled at no one in particular. “I’m not thanking you! This is a cooperative game, so obviously you’re all going to try to heal me, the obviously best player!”
<You dick, that’s a dick move!> Snivy turned and tried to wave at those that helped him out. <Thank you!> He kicked H0LYN3V1L in the shin again. <See? That’s what manners look like.>
“Oh that’s how you want to do this? I’ll throw you at stupid Zapdos again!”
There must have been something rather believable on H0LYN3V1L’s face when he spoke that it was enough to convince Snivy he was telling the truth and Snivy took off in a dead sprint.
“Hey! Get back here!” H0LYN3V1L shrieked and ran after him. Fletchling just sighed and casually flew behind them as Snivy, then H0LYN3V1L, ran to the edge of the platform and leaped onto Zapdos’ wing.
SNIVY used ESCAPE to move from ZONE A to ZONE B
Thankfully H0LYN3V1L’s virtual form was not limited by stupid things like realistic jumping or actual athletic level and he finally caught up to Snivy and took a flying leap onto the lizard, rolling both of them to a stop, Capsakid just barely keeping his place by clinging to H0LYN3V1L’s hair. “Ha! Take that! I told you I’m the best.”
Snivy rolled his eyes and sighed. <Best at being a loser, maybe.>
“Hey!”
<But fine. I’ll play along, just don’t throw me!>
<Yeah, don’t think he needs to do that now, you’re kinda, you know, already on Zapdos.> Fletching said as she finally caught up to the others. It was only then that H0LYN3V1L and Snivy took the time to actually take in where they were.
<Oh.>
“Oh.” They said at the same time, then glared at each other for happening to say the same thing.
H0LYN3V1L scrambled to his feet and took what he was pretty sure was a super cool hero pose (but really was just him standing with his hands on his hips).
“Your time has come, evil villain! Give up now, Zapdos and recognize that I am here and that means you’re reign of terror is at an end!”
<Ugh not another speech. Don’t listen to him, nobody listen to him, he’s just doing it for attention.>
<Is this a reign of terror? I mean, he’s just like, taking his own shrine, right? Doesn’t that technically belong to him? Hey Zapdos, doesn’t this belong to you?>
<Yeah! We’re gonna set you on fire, and then your shrine on fire, and then next we’ll burn down the whole world!>
H0LYN3V1L dropped his pose and sighed. “We’re a mess. We're actually the worst. Look, okay, let’s just, let’s just attack, alright gang? And also maybe let’s not threaten arson against the entire world? Does that seem agreeable?”
Snivy and Fletching looked at each other before nodding in a temporary agreement with H0LYN3V1L. Capsakid let out a long whine and flopped sadly on H0LYN3V1L’s shoulder, but gave up on yelling about burning things down.
“Great. Glad we had this talk. Let’s just keep it simple. Snivy use Tackle, Fletching use Em…” at Capsakid’s sudden intake of breath, H0LYN3V1L decided to change tactics, “...I mean uh, use Flail.”
<Aw, shucks.> Capsakid sighed as Snivy and Fletching took off to do their very not fire related attacks.
SNIVY used TACKLE, doing 138 damage to ZAPDOS
FLETCHLING used FLAIL, doing 103 damage to ZAPDOS

Mechanical (Hard)ZONE A
The most glaring issue that caught Lucky's ear was when he noted that the legendary bird decided to speak to one of the players directly. 'So he can single us out', he thought.
The sudden rush of cool helped stall the incredible surge of fear that followed. Lucky was playing support, for God's sakes--there was no way that Zapdos was going to go and specifically target Lucky, even if it could! As people began to make bold proclamations towards the God of thunder, one each after the other declaring defiance to the heavens, Lucky felt the warm comfort of security fall over him like a gentle blanket.
'Thank God,' He thought, 'That I have all of these lightning rods around!'
Secure in his relative safety, he observed his Pokémon and saw that his Drapion needed no further guidance. Another grand wall of sleet had already begun to form. Soon, Zapdos would be getting a faceful of it.
All Lucky had left to focus on was the direction of Will'O to bring heat to the freezing raid participants. A guiding light came to the kind pink spirit who had helped Will'O before, as well as to a lost child who had just scrambled back onto the platform.
The majority, of course, went to Will'O's favorite human, as he was directed by Lucky to do so. Warming fire coarsed around Orion like a coat, wreathing his fists in flame. Lucky had been so kind as to give Orion the burn status-the awesome one that gives attacks damage over time, not the silly Pokémon burn that halves one's physical attack.
Orion would looked untouchable in this moment, too great to be even assailed--Or he would have, were it not for the incoming and massive attack that was about to slam right into him.

FreeformZONE A The legendary Pokemon thundered, everything was in chaos. He learned recently that Electric was strong against Water, so he could only click his tongue when the collective Disrupt worked, but Aegis had been nicked with the environmental pressure, clearly affected by the static. Kallisto was keeping an eye on the numbers; numbers that he could only add so little to. He needed more...more power to even be useful. Something chilling washed over him, deep inside that was separate from the cold that came with the bird rising higher. According to the game, it shouldn't take much to push it back to the altitude it was when they started, but were they going to do enough damage to even get it to the cannons?
❝Aegis, return!❞ he pulled his Pokemon back to save some of his HP. In the midst of players running around, switching out their fainted Pokemon, returning to the Zone A platform, and powering up for the next round of attacks, he spotted odile, looking conflicted. Because of what the bird said? About humans taking over and awakening things they shouldn't? Kallisto had no idea what that was supposed to mean or if the bird was even right. The other players were shouting back though, and he picked up mentions of the corruption and the parasites. Coincidentally, they were also people from the same guild as the one he joined, he could tell from the color of their tag names.
At the admittance that one of the other players here also had the parasite in him, the one that ravaged his body seemed to stir, but with so much noise and stimuli, he couldn't tell what it was feeling. So these were members of The Creed, huh? What giants he had to walk under. He could only hope to compare, to stand as powerfully as they do at this moment.
❝Hey Big Bird!❞ he shouted, ❝I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I thought that legendary Pokemon were supposed to be custodians of the land. If you stole the shrine and caused all of this shit to happen, then you better own up to it! What are you doing wasting time fighting us while holding up a giant cinderblock?! Shouldn't you be beating back the corruption that's swallowing everything? If not for us, what of the Pokemon that were supposed to live there? In the end, do you actually even care?❞
He tossed out a Poke Ball with his only support, equipped hastily without really matching the Pokemon's skill set. But Pierce the Alolan Meowth came out gracefully, before letting out a meow in pain as he felt the chill. <Meowch! It's biting cold, Meowster!>
❝I know I know, now go and heal Tuesday's double sword thing while it's attacking!❞
<Nya?! Me, a healer?! Well, you nyasked for it!> the Meowth would then run up to the Pokemon, beaten and battered, and toss some coins from thin air, feeling that what was a better type of healing than a shower of money?

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE A >> ZONE D Zapdos' words were sharp, furious. Filled with a pain and desperation unending. Leave! This is mine! I see now you'll never stop until everything is yours!
Was that not a pain he knew? How many years, after his escape, was it before he did not freeze, wary, at the sound of footsteps? Did not feel the impulse to lash out at any perceived slight or theft? Even now, the aggressive, violent protectiveness of his own home-
Had he not found the Prince battered and chained? Had that not been why Verai had helped Him in the first place?
It was a pain they shared, a trial they both knew. A peace Verai knew Zapdos could find again.
A peace shattered as pokemon were unmade- Sprigatito mid-squeak as the sharp beak tore into him, reducing him to nothing.
Verai turned his attention back to Zapdos- and then man not fighting, but speaking to him.
And now you're lashing out in anger because that's all you can do.
But if you want to work things out with fists we can! You and me! One on one, I'll take everything you can dish out!
I'll take it all, no matter how much it hurts cause that's what I do!
But the man- orioncayge , the ui whispered- fell, twisting in the air for a frightening moment before seeming to stabilize, settling over one of the wide wings.
Like hell it was going to be one on one. Verai moved forwards, right to the edge of the elevator. Cold seeped into his armor, but he could scarcely feel it.
"Zapdos!" He called, fighting to be heard over the living storm. "Do you not think we understand? Your anger? Your rage? You are not the only one to have been chained!" Verai roared, something raw coming to his voice. "Fighting us will not fix the troubles that plague these lands- and it will not make You feel better."
He had tried, countless times. It only ever made Tarou feel worse.
"You entrusted us with Your life before, Prince. And we did not fail You." He paused, and reached, almost pleadingly, like he was offering the Prince a hand. "Trust us once more. And if you can't... Then take it out on me, too. We both can bear your burdens, together. " It was not meant to undermine Orion's bargain, but to strengthen it. They would stand and hold His fury, to protect those that couldn't.
(A shame he couldn't realize that he hadn't.)

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE D to ZONE C Morpheus was mentally panicking after barely dodging that staff-like shrine due to him taking off with his winged jetpack beforehand. That Zapdos was no joke. He would have been knocked out if it wasn't for the players' efforts to disrupt it. However, the surprises didn't stop there as the bird started complaining about how humans took over its territory and now wanted them out of its home. He was confused. What crime did he and the other players do to piss it off? He wished he read a thread in some forum or social media about what happened before he joined the game. But there was no time to regret his missed opportunities. He needed to focus on the fight at hand.
"Glacies, we need to contribute to pulling that Zapdos down. Use Icy Wind!" Morpheus ordered as he flew around the air near the Legendary Pokemon.
<Got it!>
His Cryogonal flew in and released a cold wind to the Zapdos. As soon as they did, Morpheus heard Zapdos accusing the players of invading its home and never stopping until it was theirs. "Not to intrude on your speech, but how is destroying everything and stealing a shrine help you defend your home exactly? No offense, but it sounds like you're doing all of this for yourself instead of other Pokemon."
Morpheus looked around to look for his Pokemon until he noticed a female player's Falinks nearby. He knew Zapdos was half-Flying-type, so there was no way it could survive if it was that move. "Glacies, defend that Falinks immediately! I'll see if I can get close to Zapdos!"
He then left the area and tried to fly next to Zapdos’s left wing while the Ice-type snowflake Pokemon flew to guard Jinx’s Falinks.

Mechanical (Easy)ZONE C > escaping to ZONE A There was a beat where Taylor realised just how alone she was up here, and she felt an odd, sinking feeling in her stomach. She stubbornly ignored the sensation of oh shit, I fucked up, but thankfully, it didn’t last long. A few minutes later she found herself joined by a woman with vibrantly green hair who did NOT look pleased to be here and a familiar brown-haired one who pulled a grin of recognition from the armorer.
The string shot was oddly soothing, and she watched as it bound her wounds, serving as bandages along her exposed arms and legs. “Oh, neat!” She grinned, nodding to Jade Jager and sliding to stand in front of her, for all the good it’d likely do up here. “Thanks! I’m Taylor, nice to meetcha! You’re right, we should!”
It was only as @kath’s Treeko patched up even more of her and Onix’s injuries that she realised quite how close to whiting out she’d probably been. “Thanks, buddy!” She murmured to the little grass type, brow raising in admiration of the barrier that the Bulbasaur was erecting.
Naturally, having just agreed that they should stick together, Taylor promptly forgot this promise as she caught sight of another familiar face in zone D. She retained enough wherewithal to at least speak to her wing-mates before leaving.
“Come on, Verai needs backup!”
With that, she was on Onix’s back again, the pair winding their – probably ticklish – way over Zapdos’ back towards its head. Once there, they launched themselves back down to the platform, to land near the other player. The increase Zapdos' sudden in altitude almost had the pair toppling off, and she yelled indignantly in response. "Oi! Watch it, featherbrain!"
Insulting the huge fuck-off legendary? Probably not her smartest move, but in for a penny, in for a pound, right?
Once (relatively) safely situated in zone D, Taylor hopped off the giant stone snake and called out a greeting. “Hey!” She grinned. “You’re looking a little worse for wear!” That said, she positioned herself behind the Tank and her own Onix, before releasing Vixey to the field.
The Vulpix blinked around for a moment, blanching when she caught sight of just how beat up her human appeared. She stalked over as though ready to scold the human, but was quickly shooed away. “No, no, no,” Taylor rushed out. “Not me, him!” She received a glare for the tone and situation, but the fire-type acquiesced after a moment, trotting over to the other played and winding around his anckles soothingly, careful not to trip him.
There was no way that Onix wasn’t going down this turn, so the huge rock-type decided that if he was going to faint, he’d do it with a bang! Throwing everything he had into it, he lifted his tail into the air and slammed it down against the electric-type’s wing.
