"Excelnyent! I've been waiting for nya. Take this box and take it to this nyadress, and don't shake it or drop it, it's nyat a good idea!" The irony is that he had only stepped into the fancy-looking building to ask for directions, but before he even managed to utter a single word, he had been ambushed by a small girl in a lab coat — barely visible yet still brandishing a barrage of 'nya's from behind the heavy box he now holds. When had he signed up to be virtual delivery man? Of that, The Captain isn't sure, but now that he's looking down at this box in his hands, it would probably kill him to just take it back in there without finding out where he was supposed to take it to. Curiosity killed the cat, although apparently in this case it's more like curiosity led the dog to do pointless chores. The problem is that he has no idea how to get to this address on the box, that he has no map (that he knows of), and that even if he did have a map (he does, he just has never found it in his UI), putting the box down to look through it sounds like a terrible idea considering the whole ominous "don't shake it or drop it, it's nyat a good idea!" line the girl had just thrown in there with no explanations. Thankfully, among the glowing symbols that sometimes appear in his line of sight, there's an exclamation mark over someone nearby. Aha! And, yes, that's what he thinks of his HUD. "Yo!" The tall man calls to the stranger without any apprehensions regarding the fact that this is indeed a stranger, a bright smile adorning his expression just as the pointed ears of a canid perk up in excitement. "Do you know how to get to this address?"TUTORIAL 002 - DELIVERY, SIGN HERE!The quest progress tracker appear in his vision, but of course, The Captain pays it no mind at all.

One of the things that Comet remembered listing down was to join a guild (in order to get stronger), but to do that, he needed to get his first trainer star. He recalled making sure to take down these notes since they weren't explicitly listed in the game (thankfully, they were easily searchable online), and so the player often had his journal out to check what he should try to do next. ❝Oof, we were in such a rush to join in the raid that I forgot about the tutorials.❞
<What about tutorials?> Kimchi asked, able to see a physical journal that Comet could make appear and disappear at will (for some reason), but unable to read what was written on it.
❝Basically stuff that, uhm...❞ should he really be calling it 'the game' in front of Kimchi? He recalled that they weren't going to talk about it, but since the Cinderace was outside of his Poke Ball pretty much all of the time, it was a bit hard not to talk about gamifying the world without referring to it straight. ❝Things I need to do so that I can join a guild.❞
Of course, the hesitation did not go unnoticed, but Kimchi elected to ignore it. <Uh huh, so what do we have to do?>
As if on cue, a tall man with animal ears ran up to them, triggering a number of windows to pop up, so that made Comet jump a bit.
TUTORIAL 002 - DELIVERY, SIGN HERE!
Ensure that the package arrives safely at ROUND 2'S BASE (You must complete tutorials in pairs. Please do not move too far from your partner until the quest is finished)
Comet blinked. Oh, hey, a tutorial! ❝Err, yes? Well, we follow the map, but...where'd you get that package from?❞ He hadn't been to this place, though it actually wasn't far. He actually also had an idea on who gave it, but it was more of like...confirmation. And also to put his guard up if ever, since he never really liked that other Professor. ❝Did she tell you anything about it?❞
The box that the man was holding looked extremely ordinary (other than being heavy), but he swore that he could see some sinister smoke coming out of it, or something. Even Kimchi looked rather vexed at it.

"Oh!" Completely without meaning for it, a dog's tail wags, and The Captain doesn't even realise as much. No, he's too busy having his full attention on this other player who looks like he must be no more than a teen — a teen accompanied by a tall, bipedal rabbit. Naturally, none of these facts change how The Captain acts towards him. "You have a map? Damn, you must've started playing a while back, huh? I still haven't been able to find one. You're pretty cool, kid."
Yes, he means it, and the words are spoken with a smirk. He'd offer a hand and introduce himself, but he's still holding the box, and right at that moment, said box trembles, causing him to grimace and effectively distracting him from his thoughts.
"She said... Uhmm... 'Don't shake it or drop it, it's nyat a good idea!'" The Captain tells the stranger then, doing his best poor impersonation of Dr Bunya's voice and laughing lightly as soon as he does so. "I got it at that big building back there... The lab, I think? When I started playing the lab was these tents back at the Surging Steppes, so I guess they've upgraded since then."
At least he does know the Surging Steppes by name. Of course he does, because Remy — and The Captain by extent — has always enjoyed exploring, and in many ways, UNOVR is a whole new world for him to explore.
"So! Where are we headed, friend?... Oh. Call me Captain, by the way." He grins when introducing himself.

If it weren't for the fact that this guy was so big, Comet might've attempted to pet the guy's head, because that wagging dog tail really reminded him of, well, a dog. A big dog. A big white dog. What was a big white dog? Not a Golden. A Samoyed? Yeah! He probably shouldn't bring that up though. ❝Uh, no? Just started recently, actually.❞ well, he understood that other people would be skeptical of it since new players didn't normally have a fully evolved starter. He noticed that other players usually preferred to expand their party before choosing who to evolve (and usually people liked having that sense of progression before evolving in lieu of leveling, but Comet was not that kind of guy). ❝Have you tried opening your UI and pressing the map button?❞ the compliment felt a little undeserved for something so simple, yet he was reminded of a moment when his teacher praised him for working the computer to present their Powerpoint. Maybe...it was kind of like this?!
Well, his impersonation confirmed that it was Dr. Bunya. He remembered putting this quest off, but at the start, he clearly remembered it was Professor Ash. It saddened him a little bit that she was dismissed from her position. She was the one who gave him Kimchi, after all. He should really thank her for that the next time he saw her, wherever she may be. Surely the game wasn't just going to wipe her, was it? ❝I guess "upgrade" is one way to look at it.❞ he muttered, really not liking that other professor.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. ❝According to the quest, we're headed to Round 2's Base. I haven't been there myself, but the map says that it's in Route 1, so...not where the Surge Steppes are, that's Route 3. Oh, uh, and I'm Comet, and this is my partner, Kimchi. Nice to meet you!❞ he seemed like the kind of guy who would want a handshake, so he extended his hand. ❝Are you new since you're doing the tutorial? I mean, I know that's sounds like a silly question to ask, but I've heard of some players putting it off. Was just curious.❞
He figured that they should also start walking while they were talking, so he gestured to the direction they had to move. ❝I can guide us there. Let me know if you want me to carry the box for a while though, in case you get tired. Shouldn't be too far if we don't get distracted or ambushed, hopefully! (Does this game allow ambushing?)❞
Meanwhile, the Cinderace attentively looked around, especially upon hearing the idea of them getting attacked. He should be able to detect if something was coming their way.

It's exactly like when being praised by a teacher for working the computer to present their PowerPoint. Or, well, yes and no. Remy does know how to work a computer, thankfully, because he's not that old and a large portion of his income actually does come from his social media accounts, but he's not a gamer and has never been, so UNOVR is actually his first proper experience with this sort of thing. He doesn't know the lingo, he doesn't know all the things most consider to be common or standard among games of this kind, and so, when Comet kindly offers a suggestion, The Captain responds with a puzzled look: "...What's a UI? Are you sure I have one of those?" In proper dog form, he tilts his head, canid ears lowering for a second or two. Thankfully, our dear Captain is not a sour and jaded one, and that radiant smile of his returns his face the moment introductions are exchanged. Despite the doctor's warnings and the suspicious shaking, he shifts the box to securely tuck it under his arm like a football, using his now-free hand to shake that of his newly acquired "friend". "Good to meet ya, Comet and Kimchi. That's a cool name, I love me some good Kimchi." He laughs when letting go, giving Comet a pat on the shoulder for good measure before returning the box to a less precarious hold. He walks by the clearly younger player's side, letting him lead the way to Round 2's Base, their apparent destination. "I only started playing recently, yeah. One of my kids loves Pokémon, so I figured I'd play with her, yeah? Buuuut, I've never been much of a gamer, so there's a bit of a learning curve and what not."There's no shame in admitting such things, even if he had just met Comet — mostly because The Captain is one of those people who seem blessed with the ability to never be ashamed of anything. He looks at his companion and smiles: "We can totally handle getting ambushed, add some excitement to the journey, right? Ha!... Oh, and don't worry about carrying the box, by the way. I don't mind taking care of that part."Compared to all the heavy equipment Remy deals with on the daily basis, the box is rather light, and to his pleasant surprise, apparently in VR The Captain is just as fit as Remy himself is IRL.

Oh God, he doesn't even know what a UI is? (Frankly, Comet didn't know what it stood for either. He had to think about it for a moment. Thinking, thinking...User Interface!) ❝Yeah of course everyone has it! You know it's like, your menu? When you go to the settings of your phone or something? Uhhh you should be able to access it by just saying it out loud?❞ kind of like those animes or Korean webtoons where the character just brings up a menu within the dungeons. It wasn't like there was an X button they could press anywhere on their person. Oh well, perhaps it would just work better if he was in charge of the map, since the other player clearly looked bothered for a moment before returning back to his jovial cheer. Aww, he really was like a dog. Specifically a Samoyed.
For a moment his eyes widened at @the Captain 's easy handling of the box (shouldn't they be handling it with care?), but they did shake hands, and he did shift back to hold the box better. He would nod in agreement about the comment on Kimchi though, to which said Cinderace was rather confused but decided not to ask about it. ❝Oh that's real cool. Does she play UNOVR? Though there's probably some kind of age rating or something.❞ father and daughter playing in this large large playground sounded like a nice, peaceful scene, though with the corruption running amok elsewhere, it was probably not safe for her. ❝It's real awesome that you're trying it out for her though. That's A+ parenting.❞ not that he would know what good parenting was, since he was very sure that his mom was not a good parent.
He would thank him about the box carrying and thought that he could probably handle the ambushing with Kimchi, who can probably blast their way through some weaker Pokemon no problem. ❝We'll handle the firepower then! Unless we face a water type or something, then we might be in trouble.❞

"Oooooh, a menu. You should've said that from the start, little dude!" The Captain laughs. The man may not know a single thing about videogames, but that sure as hell doesn't mean that he's technologically impaired. Quite the contrary, he live vlogs. On TikTok! And he has an Instagram too! But, anyway, that's not the point here... The Captain is quick to do as Comet recommends, telling his UI to open, and lo and behold, it does! There are a whole lot of buttons that are very distracting, but for now, he tells himself to ignore most of them and simply click the one that says MAP. It manifests a second later, displaying plans for the town and its vicinity. There, in the distance, there's the blinking dot that is their destination, and just as he looks at it, his quest tracker updates: TUTORIAL 002 - DELIVERY, SIGN HERE! ENSURE THAT THE PACKAGE ARRIVES SAFELY AT ROUND 2'S BASE ➤ OBSTACLES CLEARED 1/3"Looks like learning to use a map is part of the tutorial. Hope the other obstacles are just as simple, right? Good thinking there, thanks, Comet." He beams, dog tail wagging, and as they continue to walk towards this aforementioned Round 2's Base, The Captain gladly gushes about his favourite subject: his kids. "Ha! She's eight, actually. Sooo... Probably not a good idea to expose her to some things in the game, but she only plays when I'm around anyway. I don't get to see her all that often 'cause I travel a lot, so I figured the game is a good way for us to hangout since she fuckin' looooves Pokémon." His smile is unfading, but honestly, Remy would never go as far as calling himself an A+ parent. He knows how absent he has been in his kids' lives, but he's doing what he can to fix it. Is it enough? Well... That will be up to them to decide. He sure hopes as much, though! Ah, but this is no time to sulk! There's a package to deliver!"...What do you think is in here?" He asks out of curiosity alone, nodding at the box.
