Big Bee swam down the river, tugged along with the current but in control. On his back, the pair of Pokemon were a moderate but constant weight. He could hold them for now, but already his Swimmer muscles were starting to tire. "Can either of you swim?" he asked.
TKO patted the flowing water with one gloved hand. "I wonder..." "Okay, so probably not." "I'm more of a paddler," Rian said, putting her slick into the water and paddling alongside Big Bee as if he were a kayak. He looked down and saw that the riverbed was alive with writhing vines. "Fantastic," he said flatly, swimming faster to keep ahead of the tangling roots.
Up ahead, Big Bee saw a trainer (Finnegan Fjord) enter the chamber, activating a whirlpool that surged into activity. "Whoa! Shit!" Big Bee said, swimming to the right. TKO latched onto the wall with its suckers, and together they swam/clambered along the wall, heading down the path that carried on straight, deeper into the waterways.
The passage beyond was bathed in orange light. The whirlpool was gone here, but the water carried them onwards, towards the glow.

CYCLE 3
ROLLIN' ON THE RIVERPoison Darts (Left)The platform rotates with aching slowness, providing little cover from the spray of artillery from the walls. Kath Ulu's Grookey dodges the deadly shafts with ape-like agility, but Allotta Bambooga is less lucky. With her pain settings on realistic, she experiences a series of sharp, piercing pains as darts thud into her body.
They burn like hot needles as the neurotoxins set into her blood-- then, abruptly, it fades. The poison seems to be gone.
If Allotta reaches down to pull the darts from her body, she finds them to be made of gold.
With the statue lined up, the door on the far side swings open and Kath and Allotta fly through onto a high, raised path set along the temple's left wall. To your right is another vine-festooned rope bridge that crosses half the span of the temple. Ahead, farther down the path, you can see a small altar. A jewel-encrusted goblet sits just out of reach, its rim red with dried blood.
BOOM. CRASH.
A rolling boulder lands on the path behind you.
Suffering from the pain of the previous trap, Allotta finds herself in jeopardy. Waterway (Orange Glow)Mudkip feels like lead in Finnegan Fjord's grip, weighing him down with every stroke towards the orange light. Litten is no better, her once-soft paws crushing Finn beneath her weight.
Big Bee's eyes linger on the roots and vines snaking up from the bottom of the waterway. Strangely, they seem to slow as they draw near, giving the Swimmers an opportunity to make a break for the canal.
If you look back, you see them gray and motionless, frozen mid-coil.
The shallow canal feels like a blessing as the two of you burst to the surface, dragging your heavy burdens with you. Something is off. Your Pokemon's eyes are pale and pupilless, their bodies bleaching of color.
The water on your bodies evaporates, and you feel the heat.
Fire. This part of the temple is on fire. The orange glow dancing above the surface was the light of a burning temple, flame racing along ancient mortar with vicious glee. Flaming rope bridges crumble above you.
As if that wasn't enough, you hear a sound.
BOOM. CRASH.
A giant boulder falls from a raised path high to your left, smashing down and crushing the waterway in front of you in a burst of sharp-edged stone chunks. Depending on their choices, Kath Ulu or Allotta Bambooga may be found smashed under it.
Key Puzzle (Right)Items drift around the room, sorting themselves into neat piles at the touch of the Delphox's wand. Something virulent red near one of the workbenches catches the fox's eye, where a diamond-shaped flask of thick scarlet liquid has fallen.
acquired: <temple toxin>
As Lucky takes the bottle from his Pokémon, strange lines spiderweb from his fingers, expanding across the glass like spreading ink. In the space of seconds, the flask turns to solid gold.
But there's no time to reflect. Shrieking Infernape burst into the room, lashing out and sending barrels of mysterious liquid flying. The tools and keys on the workbenches scatter as Lucky Guy, manish and inari burst through the once-locked doorway, the door slamming shut behind them.
...And they teeter on the edge of a sheer drop, overlooking the overgrown temple below.
A shallow water channel cuts through the stone below you, curving to create a wide, circular moat. Strange, sinuous shapes shimmer beneath the surface. The moat wraps around a round terrace, spiraling brickwork steps like layers of a cake.
You notice the ladder just as the ground beneath your feet heaves, buckling upwards. Roots finally tear through the stone, driven on by jungle drums. manish and inari's Pokemon have grown colorless, their eyes like carved pebbles. They feel smooth and cold beneath your touch, and are heavy as cinderblocks.

Out of the waterway and into the... fire. That's not how that's supposed to go.
Bathed in an intense heat that's quick to dry the droplets from his skin, Finn — or, more accurately, Cillian — can't help but to be reminded of a burning building and a handsome man who'd unknowingly 'rescued' the arsonist from the blaze. He hadn't needed rescuing, but he couldn't exactly let the firefighter know that he was the cause.
Man, it would be really convenient to have a firefighter here right now. Where had Allotta Bambooga gone?
In her absence, he turns to his Pokemon.
"Hey, uh, Lynch...?"
Something's wrong with her. Her colour pale, her eyes white.
"Hey, Big Bee? I think our Pokémon are turning into marble."
At least she's got enough juice left in her to manipulate the flames, parting them on the STAIRS to create an opening for her trainer. The flames close in behind them, and Finn's left with no other choice but to make a running JUMP across the gap.
Finn's Litten is a FIRE-TYPE, and helps navigate the flames. He takes the STAIRS and JUMPS the gap.

"Oh! Oh I see how it is!" Grookey flicked a poison dart out of his hair. "What next, shall I distract the boulder?!"
"Aw man, this place sucks," Bulby said as the boulder tumbled toward him.
Kath Ulu had been in this situation before, time and time again. It wasn't a matter of luck, or skill, no; outrunning death was an act of sheer determination. In her bunker below the ruins of Seattle, Heather gripped her controller with defiance. Kath's strong gardening legs shot forward and she was already outpacing the terrifying boulder.
"Alright man there's a rope bridge to the- oh, we're just running straight? Alright." Bulby's question was rhetorical as he clung on to Kath's back so he wasn't left behind as Kath left a trail of dust behind her.
Grookey jumped on too, but had less rhetorical and more angry questions.
"What the hell was that?!" Grookey hung on to Kath's shoulder. "I can't believe you did that to me- oòoh is that a goblet?" Grookey reached out and grabbed it on their way past with ZERO hesitation.

"Marble isn't much more use than grass or...octopus right now," Big Bee said, hauling the pair to the edge of the flaming stairs. The orange glow burnt his skin, and he opened his UI, navigating to his trainer tree and switching over to Kindler.
Suddenly, the flames seemed bearable. Gentle even. He heaved Grookey and TKO out of the water. The pair were stiff as stone, and he set them down on the sizzling stairs with a hiss and a clang.
"Heavy...stick..." Rian said, tapping her marble stick slowly on the stairs. "So...powerful..." "Cuuuuurrrriiioooouuusssss..." TKO agreed, suckers still sucking despite his new texture.
"Plenty of time to enjoy your petrification later," Big Bee said, secretly glad they were taking it so well. "For now let's just get up these stairs." He followed Finnegan Fjord up to the stone room at the top of the staircase. At the peak was a massive gap where the ancient bridge had burned away. Big Bee swore. He heaved Grookey and TKO over the gap before making the running jump himself. "Just...that easy..." he gasped, sounding more and more like his marble Pokemon with every step he had to carry them.

With the screech of monkeys behind him, Manish dashed through the door, only to immediately stop, Ryan slamming into him and almost knocking him off the edge. Luckily Ryan reach out with his vines fast enough to wrap around Manish’s waist and steady him while he stared over the edge. “Woah.” Just as Manish took a deep breath in, the floor started to heave and Cereal grew heavy in his arms. “Oh geeze, you okay, bud?” He turned to look at Ryan, who was also pale grey, “Ryan? Oh man, okay, we gotta get outta here faster.” Manish looked at the options ahead. He really really didn’t want to swim, especially while carrying Cereal who was just getting heavier and heavier. Glancing down at Ryan’s vines wrapped around him, though, gave him an idea. “Ryan, you think you can lower us down over there?” Ryan slowly moved his vines, each movement taking more effort than it did before. <Yeah, yeah I think I still can.> He easily picked up Manish and placed him on his back before wrapping his vines around the swinging vines above. Slowly but surely he lowered the three of them down. Manish gently gave a pat to Ryan’s head. No longer was the giant toad slimy, but a cold stone feeling. “Oh geeze, don’t worry buddy, we’ll get out of this. I promise.” With a loud thud, they ended in a shallow pool and Manish stumbled off of Ryan, almost falling over due to the weight of Cereal. “Come on guys,” Manish said as he nudged Ryan along and up the stairs. Allotta lets out a cut-off shriek in the game. In real life, Kekoa can almost feel the piercing. When he logs off for the night, after all this is over, he would check his skin for indents and bits of dried blood. For now, though, Allotta freezes in place and shakes, a low whine coming from her throat.
It's over as quick as it started, it's over. Shaking fingers work to jerk any of the sticking darts out.
Gold?
In the end the door opens, so maybe it wasn't a waste.
It takes a moment to force her legs to move, but when she does Allotta flies in a run with Kath Ulu. Where the other plays goes straight, Allotta veers to the right. The wood of the bridge chars under her foot steps, making it more precarious than normal given the risk of catching it on fire. Damn Kindler class. Where was Finnegan Fjord when you needed him? Wasn't he in the moist boy class?
The blunder crashes and she tries to pick up her steps. Allotta squeezes her Meowth tighter and she can feel Blue clinging to her hair as he hitches a ride.

Lucky could feel his stress levels spiking through the proverbial roof of this temple as he felt the pounding of screeching monkeys from behind the door. No, that wasn't them--Those pounding noises were coming from the other monkeys! Sprouts bloomed beneath the stone and broke his footing, throwing him off the stone platform before he even had time to think about what was inside of his current bounty. He tripped, stepped and... Just continued walking. Man, these vines were in some really convenient spots for him to walk on right now. Sometimes they even stabilized more after he stepped on them... Lucky thought it best to get to another side as quickly as he could before that simple fact changed. His two Pokemon followed suit as quickly as they could, the three together like a well trained team of pros. He landed beside manish even as he looked back up to watch the carnage of eroding stone. Reaching into his pocket, he quickly pulled out the vial once again as he began to walk up the stairs. "Aye, Manish was it? Stick with me, we'll get to the bottom of this soon enough, you'll see. Since every little thing you touch doesn't turn to gold, I thought you might want to hold onto this vial for me. It might be important for some kind of puzzle further in." Lucky did his best to sound as confident as possible. He could see proverbial panic in the posture of the other man-understandable, given it seemed like his Pokémon were turning into marble or something. It was best to give everyone nearby direction at a time like this and keep everything efficient when they were working on as limited time as they were. "Come with me, up this way! I don't see any scarlets among you lot, so let's get a move on!" Lucky, as a Gardener, walked along the path of vines down to the left where a set of stairs led upwards. Right now, anyone with a Marble Eye in the same area may use his <Temple Toxin> so long as they ask.

He didn't really have a lot to say once they rushed out of the area and into the next. The last thing he wanted was to be on the receiving end of whatever those monkeys had planned. Especially since he was bound and determined to get himself something good out of all of this. Of course it didn't help that for some reason his pokemon was... turning to stone or something?
The charmander weighed a ton right now but at least the vines were sturdy enough to keep him up. Must have been because of his class. But he hurried to keep up with the rest of the people in his group. After all it was better to stick together in something like this, wasn't it? Even if it was just to use someone as Canon fodder.
"This place keeps getting more and more difficult to navigate..." but at least it felt like a moment to rest. For now.

CYCLE 4
ONTORNUMORolling BoulderSprinting down the raised stone path, greenery blooms in Kath Ulu's wake like the steps of a nature goddess. Buds and flowers stretch towards the light, mercilessly mown down by the rolling boulder.
But roots? Vines? Stems and strong grass? The boulder bumps along the path like a pickup on a dirt road, wobbling as plants break its inertia. A frustrated face appears on it as it rotates.
Based on this, Kath has earned the precious time she and Grookey need to grab the goblet. The bejeweled cup is snatched up haphazardly by a furry brown paw as they flash past.
The problem comes from the contents.
Temple toxin splashes over Kath and her Pokemon from the chalice, reeking of blood and metal. It sinks through her clothes, burning like bleach.
Then-- just as abruptly-- the pain fades.
The smell of blood remains.
Reeking of ancient alchemy, Kath Ulu finds herself in jeopardy. As she flees down the path, dripping scarlet behind her, she enters the same part of the temple where Finnegan Fjord and Big Bee have just leapt across the gap. Flames dance across tar mortar, licking hungrily at the stone for sustenance.
Fire RoomBefore being crushed by the boulder, Kath is able to dodge left off the path into the same stone room where Finnegan Fjord and Big Bee soon arrive, towing their marble Pokemon.
The room's torches need no lighting-- the ominous orange light of the flames just outside do the trick.
Three sarcophagi are lined up like corpses on a stone slab in the center of this room. Two of them are open.
One seems to be full of Papyrus-font diary entries by lazy gamemakers who want you to understand what's happening without more immersive gameplay. They seem to be from the perspective of a temple priest, who believed he'd found a promising creature to use in his efforts to create the elixir of life. Diagrams of dissection and chemical formulas follow. There is no record of success.
Below the scraps of paper is a human body molded out of solid gold. It seems surprised, one four-fingered hand half-extended in shock.
The other sarcophagus opens to a deep pit, its cavernous interior plunging down into the stone like a great well. At the bottom is something shining. An item?
The third sarcophagus is closed, but its eyes open and shadowy hands snake from the cracks in its veneer. Cofagrigus attempts to encircle all three trainers in its death-cold embrace (after you read the diary entries, of course.)
Tracking the smell of transmuted blood, Infernape prowl the path outside, searching for Kath Ulu.
Tile PuzzleRoots and vines turn to crumbling stone behind them as manish, Lucky Guy and inari reconvene and begin the laborious task of pushing Manish's marble Venusaur up the steps. At Lucky's request, the now-gold temple toxin leaves his hands and enters Manish's.
There is no immediate effect-- but by the time you reach the top of the stairs, enough of the gold flask has "thawed" for you to see the liquid inside appears to have been unaffected. Perhaps it's composed of something immune to Lucky's Midas Touch.
At the top is a hall of square tiles, each one several feet in radius. Each tile seems carved with an alphanumeric letter. Annoyingly, you receive a popup with the following:
A=U - E=O - I=Y - O=E - U=A
If you look down, you see a nonsensical nine-letter word is carved into the stone at your feet. Another clue?
Allotta Bambooga appears from a side bridge and rushes ahead of the three of you, galaxy stars swirling from the Meowth in her arms. You watch her attempt at the puzzle. As she steps on each tile, it sinks into the ground, giving a little click. Incidentally, you notice lines of metal spreading across the tiles she stepped on, transforming each of them to gold.
When she's finished, any attempts to duplicate her entry fail. It seems like perhaps the required answer is different for each of you. For all players, the timer ticks down to 1:00.

He could do this. Puzzles were easy peasy. You just had to sit and think for a moment while hoping that shitty timer didn't run you down... But he could do that. All he had to do was figure out a simple letter puzzle. Something normally he could do in his sleep. But the weight of his Pokemon in his arms and the timer counting down caused him to sweat a little. Still, he moved the letters around in his head before feeling confident enough to start to step on the pathway.

Unlike most of the game text thus far, Finn actually bothers to read the diary entries. What if they contain some kind of clue as to how they got out of here safe? If he were a developer, he'd definitely hide secrets among his lazy lore to force people to read it.
Thankfully, he'd set his marble Litten down close enough to him that she can offer a paralyzing LICK to the Cofagrigus when it tries to mummify her trainer.
Finn stares into the deep sarcophagus pit, distracted.
"That's definitely a trap."
But there's a glint of something potentially valuable at the bottom of it, and he's yet to sustain any damage, so...
"Fuck it. Remember me, dude."
With a cheeky grin flashed toward Big Bee, he vaults over the edge of the pit and drops down.

The Cofagrigus stretched its ghostly arms, encircling the trio. Big Bee took one look at it and made his decision. "Rian, distract it. I'm going after the treasure."
The marble Grookey lunged, waving its stick in the air and taunting the sarcophagus. She hopped from one foot to the other, making loud clicking noises as stone foot met stone floor.
"Remember you? Hell no man I'm joining you!" Big Bee grabbed TKO and used the octopus to reached into the darkness. The marble suckers of the octopus dangled in the void, curling in search of treasure.

Lucky saw what was before him. In particular, "ONTORNUMO" stood out before him. This and the plaques before him...
"Oh, this reminds me of the stuff my cousin tossed out my way over the years." They always had a habit of tossing him puzzles just to bug him, as he was never any good at them. Well, it felt like whoever made these was more on his level-He was just figuring it out now...
Ah, Inari had already leapt across the room whilst he wasn't looking. A shame, as it must have been graceful to watch. It wasn't as if he needed to copy an answer, though. He'd just about figured this out. Lucky leapt across the hall's passageway, and tiles once again struck gold in the name of LUCKYGUY. LACKYGAY, if the previous idea wasn't within sight.
He hoped it wouldn't have to come to that.

In her haste, Allotta hardly notices inari, manish, and Lucky Guy behind her. She is so caught up in the action if running from the boulder she doesn't even notice it's not chasing her anymore.
Tiles dip under her flaming feet, embers scorching. She hardly notices the puzzle, too. She spells out the OBVIOUS answer as she crosses by happenstance.
DBUGSTINKY
Thankfully, her Meowth notices more than she does. Agile, feline feet cross back over the puzzle space after hopping from her arms. ALLOTTA is spelled out with force before she returns to her Trainer, whi had paused on the other side to wait.
Only then does she notice the others.
"Hey, guys!" A quick wave. Then, she frowns. "Did Kath Ulu get crushed by the boulder...?" Where had her new friend gone?
Allotta succeeds thanks to her Meowth! (Normal Type)
