Had Kath Ulu been crushed by the boulder?
No.
She had instead been splashed with a significant amount of TEMPLE TOXIN.
"AH!" She yelled in pain.
"AH!" Bulby echoed as the toxin ran down Kath's back and got him too.
"AH!" Grookey yelled, seemingly for the fun of it as he was the one holding the damn goblet.
"You little idiot!" Kath yelled.
"What the hell, man?"
"What?" Grookey shrugged and stuffed the goblet into Kath's bag. "I didn't want us to leave empty handed..."
"We might not be leaving at all," Kath said with a hint of despair as the fire licked up the walls on the path in front of her.
It was a mess. Not only would she have to jump a six foot gap, but it didn't look like the fire stopped beyond that.
And her pokemon were grass-type. Flammable-type.
"Man, we just got burned..." Bulby whispered in Kath's ear with bargainous intent.
"Yeah, no, fire SUCKS. Don't worry. We'll go this way," Kath turned and leapt to her RIGHT into the same room where Finnegan Fjord and Big Bee have just JUMPED (well and not so well, respectively) into the second sarcophagus.
The boulder rolled past. Was this safety? There was a golden... mummy? And a Cofagrigus blocking the only exit.
So no, no it was not.
"Ooh, more gold fingers!" Grookey immediately jumped onto the golden body and started grappling with its outstretched hand, gnawing at its knuckles and twisting its tips.
"Grookey, what are you doing, man?"
"Tryina get the whole set!"
"No, no, this is a puzzle - convergence, reassembly! Quick," Kath tossed the gold finger to Grookey, who caught it instinctively. "Reattach the finger!"
"You want me to put the loot back?" Grookey asked with dismay.
"Just do it! We'll deal with the Coffin."
"We'll try, man," said Bulby, as he powered up his VINE WHIP attack and let loose...

Manish took the vial from Lucky with awe. “Really? You’ll uh, wow you’ll let me hold onto it? Wow, that’s uh, yeah, no, I’ll take good care of it!” and he tucked the vial into his inside coat pocket.
Looking at the puzzle ahead and feeling Cereal and Ryan solidify more and more, Manish started to panic. How was he ever going to solve it in time? He took a step closer to the puzzle to examine it, and instantly stubbed his toe on a rock that was sticking out. He didn’t have realistic pain on, but the instinct of recoiling was still strong enough that he jumped up onto one foot. The added weight of Cereal caused him to tip further than he was expecting and he started to pinwheel his one free arm.
Manish jumped around on the one leg, trying to correct his balance, when he felt the spot he was on sink down slightly. He froze. Manish took a deep breath and looked down. He stepped on the letter ‘V’. Well, he didn’t know what the answer was, but he was fairly certain that it wasn’t going to have a V in it.
Time to hope for the best.

CYCLE 5
A LEAP OF FAITHIn The Pit A licking Litten and taunting Grookey keep the Cofagrigus distracted as Finnegan Fjord and Big Bee vault down into the pit, eager to take on the mantle of literal tomb raiders at the first opportunity.
As they land, their feet crunch on bone. A shower of ancient dust bursts up from the ground, filling the air with a cloud of rising ash. Shards of shattered craniums slice into Big Bee's hands like eggshells, digging beneath his fingernails. The time it takes to get his bearings costs him the treasure, and precious seconds.
Big Bee is in jeopardy.
One dusty, arm-length femur seems to have survived your trip down. If he wishes, Big Bee might collect this Bone of Breaking.
Finn tracks down the glinting thing that had attracted his attention from above, locating it around the neck of a crumbling skeleton. It appears to be an amulet, its edges inscribed with unsettling, evil-looking hieroglyphics. As you take it, a tooltip flashes up cheerfully. It reads one word: curse.
Upon closer examination, you notice it also has a USB plug.
Four Becomes Five Kath Ulu snaps the gold finger back into place, and the temple shakes.
A low groan rises from the walls of the room as a ripple of power washes out from the head priest's now-intact body. Kath and her Pokemon are rocked as if caught in an earthquake, the ground trembling beneath their feet. The power of a finger had transformed darts, vials, and cobblestones to solid gold. What would a whole hand do?
Metal coats every nonliving surface like a layer of ice, transforming the entire interior of the room to gold. And it doesn't stop there-- the power rushes, races from stone to stone of the temple, flying up the path with the rolling boulder, paving the canals. The ceiling shakes as the previous dungeon floors are transmuted as well. Layer by layer, a new El Dorado is forged with a single click.
Finnegan Fjord and Big Bee feel the change from inside the pit as the stone interior becomes slippery as a slide. They struggle to pull themselves back up the soft, pliable walls, but Kath's Bulbasaur is able to keep the Cofagrigus at bay long enough for their Pokemon to help them.
The temple shakes, cascades, converts.
Run.
Tile Puzzleinari jumps across the tiles, correctly decoding the instructions. Unfortunately, he forgets to encode his entry in return.
I - N -
From the very first letter, spikes burst up from beneath the tile, throwing Inari completely off balance. N seems like a safe harbor, but with his next vowel the spike trap activates again. Inari may want to rethink his realistic pain threshold settings as he makes it to the other side feeling the full brunt of his error, pain and shock radiating from very real stab wounds.
Inari is in jeopardy.
As the trap withdraws, you can see the stakes have turned to stone.
Much like Allotta Bambooga, manish starts off on the wrong foot before he even sees the nine-letter word (ONTORNUMO) carved at his feet. Perhaps by discarding the puzzle altogether, both players are able to dance and pivot their way to the other side without hesitation even as wooden stakes threaten to impale them at every turn.
While the puzzle does not punish Allotta's Meowth for not entering her full display name, neither does it reward her: the tiny alcove on the far side remains empty, its secret safely sealed.
Lucky Guy follows the example set by inari, perhaps hoping to confirm his first theory before making a second attempt. Spikes punish the Gardener for his mistake as sharpened sticks burst from the second tile he steps on, piercing past fabric and skin with a terrible ripping sound. Hopefully the stabbing pain is enough of a wake-up-call. Curiously enough, despite physical contact, they do not turn to gold.
Lucky is in jeopardy.
Attempting to change his answer halfway through allows Lucky to reach the far side with no further injuries, but as he crosses the threshold, the puzzle changes. Before the Gardener can re-trace his steps, the tiles flip themselves over one by one, revealing the pits of spikes below. Strangely, the letters turned to gold do not flip, leaving a scattered golden path from one side of the tiled passage to the other.
Thirty SecondsFinnegan Fjord, Big Bee and Kath Ulu cross the rope bridge, feet ringing hollowly on the wood. Marble texture sweeps across it, starting from far away and washing across the boards beneath your feet. The sound of footfalls changes from hollow thunks to stony slaps as the entire structure petrifies before your eyes.
Behind you, the wave of gold continues to expand, sending tremors through the temple.
You arrive at the modified tile puzzle. Fourteen different individual letters gleam with burnished gold, surrounded by deadly moats of waiting spikes. You can see other players on the far side decorated with blood and splinters, symbols of their perilous crossing. In the corner of your vision, the timer hits 00:30. The screams of apes grow louder as Infernape vault down from the ceiling, flaming and feral. Roots burst from the temple walls in showers of earth, aiming to ensnare you as you run. Dodging grasping fingers and writhing patches of floor, you descend deeper, the passage walls narrowing as you near the exit.
Something roars ahead of you. It sounds like a waterfall.
The way ahead grows dark, slopes down, banks sharply right, then opens to a rushing curtain of water.
You stand at the edge of the temple, which terminates at a sheer cliff into a jungle ravine. Water pours from overhead in a powerful deluge, crashing and foaming where it meets the river below. It's a hundred-foot drop. The pain of whiting out here would be immense, smashed between two watery hands like a puny mosquito.
You are one step from escaping the temple.
...It's just off a cliff.

Big Bee hauled up his marble octopus. In its heavy tentacles it gripped treasure. Loot from the ancient dark. "Coouuulllddd iiittt bbbeeeeee?" Creaked TKO. "A...bone?" Big Bee asked, cringing as he plucked the item from his Pokemon's marble tentacles and shoved it into his bag while simultaneously trying to pick out the shards of skull and patella from under his nails.
Big Bee didn't have time to wonder what made the bone so important, as the path forward opened. He bolted for it, scooping up Grookey on the way past. The fluffy little monkey felt like a sack of cement powder. "Oof! Careful there buddy!" Big Bee said, as what felt like a half-ton of monkey crawled up and across his shoulders.
He arrived to the final room, where the path ahead was gilded, painted with scarlet failures. There were fourteen brilliant letters shining among the stone. He studied the letters, and the secret compartment at the far end of the room. A phrase stood out among the golden tiles, and he smiled.
"We found a diary in a sarcophagus, it only stands to reason..."
He leapt between the tiles with the grace of a church, with one marble Pokemon balanced on each shoulder like tiny gargoyles. They were almost the same size, so the weight evened out, like carrying a bag of heavy shopping in each arm.
D-U-S-T-Y L-O-G I-N B-A-C-K
The passageway to the exit stretched ahead, filled with the roar of water. Big Bee pelted towards freedom, feeling the weight of his Pokemon more acutely with each thunderous step.
The end of the passage was curtained with a wall of heavy spray. A waterfall. They were one step from freedom, and a hundred foot drop from death, but there was no way down with the weight of all three of them.
"Leave...me..." Rian said, leaping off his shoulder. She hit the ground heavily, cracking the stone under her weight. Behind, the roar and flame of the Infernape was closing in. She hefted her marble stick like a lance. "Rock...beats...fire..." she said, teeth bearing as the pursuers closed in.
Big Bee nodded. "Thank you," he said, and with TKO clutched in one hand he leapt into the unknown.
Big Bee solves the puzzle Rian sacrifices herself to let Big Bee and TKO escape

C U R S E
"Should've known," Finn groans, taking a much-needed moment to catch his breath. He wasn't out of shape in real life by any means, but a temple run would leave anyone a little winded, especially when you had to account for dragging marble Pokémon around.
Finn's seen enough movies. He doesn't wear the amulet, instead noting the USB plug and pocketing it for later.
Then the floor starts shaking. The walls. The temple moves.
"Oh for the love of-"
He turns, runs.
When they reach the puzzle full of golden letters, he hops carefully across, forced to repeat a few letters for the sake of keeping his balance. He's definitely not winning any prizes for being succinct, but he doesn't make any missteps at least.
OC(C)ULT G(O)A(T)S (S)IN K(IN)D(L)Y
Then the waterfall.
The end.
Finn shakes his head, smirks, and LEAPS.

Lucky took their leap. He trusted the world around him, perhaps too much so. He saw death below, but fervently prayed to God that he would be saved by the plunge. Man fell to his doom when faced with lethal fall. This was natural. It was only in the nature of angels to fly, and that is why h e prayed for one to save him. He did not have an angel who could fly, but he had one who was willing to try. Omen flew through the sky as any bird could. His wings were clipped, and the only way he could fly was down. It was enough to save her master. Lucky was wrapped in the folds of her wings, and the two began a dance of her own lead through the sky. "Girl?! Hey, Omen! Let go of me! I didn't order this of you!" Be silent, master, her whisper urged. You must relax. You are safe now. "Let go! What are you even doing?" You will be safe. You will live. Be at peace, my master, and let the end of the long fall come.Air whipped and slashed, soon to be replaced by fog and seafoam that struck and fell upwards. The sea's spray flew upwards, flying higher than Omen ever would, and journeyed to a place that the two would not see today. Water and stone would come next, surely swallowing all. I will pass you here at the barrier of waves. I will fall. I do not know how long I will go, but this is where your stop lies."Omen..!" Darkness and cracks. Chaos and water. Impact and reaction. Lucky ceased to understand what was happening, for he could not see through the wall of feathers. All he knew was that he was safe-but what was the price of the cost, he thought, as the water broke out into deep and churning red of his Pokéball's light? Go on, Master, away on your safe journey. I will meet you at the end of this long fall.Omen was sacrificed.

"Whoa, a puzzle - I love these, man," Bulby said as he arrived at the Tile Puzzle.
"Awesome," Kath said.
"Love that for you," Grookey echoed.
"I wonder... is it the... hmm..." Bulby scratched his head as he worked very hard.
A few minutes passed. The room turned gold around him. He was in the zone. The BULBY zone. The puzzle solving zone.
Slowly he inputted his answer, an answer he came to from years of living in a canopy with frustratingly small parasites.
BURLY DANG TICKS!
Bulby smiled. His job was done.
But was it a short, sensical sentence? It doesn't matter, because Kath and Grookey had already run away.
"Aw, man," Bulby said, as he was sacrificed.
Kath and Grookey finally made it to the end of the temple. Her only loot was a GOBLET, and was it worth it? Probably not!
"Ah!" Kath shouted as she reached the cliff - the terrifying waterfall and the sharp, sheer drop.
"Baby, we are so screwed," said Grookey as the hooting of the Infernapes grew closer by the second.
"Wait," Kath said. "What's that?"
And there it was. Just in the barest nick of time, Kath spotted a root that hung out of the side of the cliff. It lead to a series of roots that could act as a STAIRCASE down the cliff!
The only problem was - it was just too far to jump.
"Amazing! We're gonna make it!"
"Alright, you'll have to throw me, that's the only way I'll make the jump," said Kath.
"You got it, baby!" Grookey said. He used all of his primal strength to launch Kath through the air.
With gardener precision, she landed deftly on the root, SAFE and OUT OF THE TEMPLE. She looked down. Her safety was all but guaranteed. Then she looked back to Grookey.
"Wait, who's gonna toss me?" Grookey asked.
"Thanks, idiot!" Kath yelled back, and ran.
Grookey turned back to the Infernapes, who were charging into the room by the dozens.
"Baby, is it too late to talk this out?" He asked the Infernapes as he was sacrificed. BULBY: SACRIFICED GROOKEY: SACRIFICED KATH ULU: ESCAPED

The amount of pain he was in was absolutely incomparable. If it wasn't for the fact that his controller was strapped to his hands he probably would have dropped it. Letting out a scream as he tried to subconsciously check himself for wounds that weren't actually on his body. But nonetheless hurt like hell. He really might need to check some of the settings later on... Maybe. If he remembered.
But now he needed to run. And fast as he struggled to pull himself up to his feet once more. There were some ugly monkeys after him and for a moment he thought they might catch up... But as he thought that he remembered that his Charmander was pretty well almost a hunk of rock right now... "I will absolutely apologize for this after you come back." And turning he chunked the unconscious Charmander at the apes and hurried on his way to escape. YOU ( CHARMANDER ) DIED

After Manish made his incorrect step, he’s fairly certain he blacked out. In a panic he started jumping all over the place. He really didn’t want to learn what happened if he was wrong and he kind of figured if he moved fast enough that whatever the trap was wouldn’t actually hit him. Plus, he had watched his father’s friend Vincent dance his way across a museum of moving lasers without being seen, so he knew it could be done. By the time he was panting and pressed against the wall on the other side, the others had made it across and he took a look back at the puzzle. It looked like it changed. Manish tilted his head to the side to see what it could be now. It looked like an anagram of gold letters, which was interesting. He crouched down and wrote out the gold letters in the dirt in front of him to get a closer look. Manish didn’t want to take too long since his pokemon were moving less and less as the time ticked down, but he at least wanted to try. Manish squinted for a moment longer before a whole troop of mushrooms sprouted around him. “Oh! I got it!” He gently set Cereal down on the hard flower on Ryan’s back and took a moment to jump on the gold letters to spell out DOC BUSY TALKING. Manish only had a second to be proud of what he hoped was the right answer before the watch on his wrist alerted him to the 30 seconds left. “We have to go!” He yelled at Ryan and made his way over to his pokemon as quickly as he could, only to find that there was a rather dangerous looking edge waiting for him. “What do we do, what do we do, what do we do?” Manish paced at the edge. <Manish> Ryan croaked, <you know what must be done.>Manish froze in his pacing and turned to face his now almost completely marble companion. “What, uh, what do you mean?” <You know how these stories always end.>“No, no I refuse! I won’t let that happen! I'm never letting go, Ryan.” Manish cried as he ran to Ryan and wrapped his arms around his giant stone head and pressed their foreheads together. <Manish. You know I’m right. It was never meant to be.>“How will I ever go on without you? I’m useless without you!” <No, Manish, you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. You still have a whole world to see! Now hurry, I’m running out of time…> Ryan wheezed as he started to unwind his vines to lower Manish down one last time. Manish gave a sob and a single tear fell down his cheek. “I love you.” <I know.> With those final words, Ryan finally froze in place, pure marble, with a smille on his face and his vines draped over the edge for Manish to climb down. With a shuddered breath, Manish grabbed the almost frozen Cereal and started to slide down the marble vines. His hands grew chalky from the dust gathered around and Manish gave one last look up the cliff. “See a world in a grain of sand” he muttered and blew the dust from his hands. MANISH entered DOC BUSY TALKING in the puzzle RYAN was SACRIFICED

Apes scream as Allotta and her friends are backed up to a steep drop.
It looks like it will be a long fall or a fight. A fight they probably can't win.
Blue makes his choice from Allotta's shoulder. He yells and flings himself at one of the Infernape, buying his trainer more time.
"Blue!" She yelps after him.
But in the end, she's gotta jump.

CONCLUSION
THE MIDAS RUSHThe sound of drums. The thrum of footfalls, slapping on stone. The high-pitched shrieks of angry apes. They form a rhythm. Run true. You must not falter.
This is the end.
This is the end for Omen, broken by wave and woe.
This is the end for Ryan, still as stone by the bank of the waterfall.
This is the end for Rian, fighting off Infernape with the courage of a rock-type. This is the end for Inari's Charmander, whose reproachful eyes seem to say you fucked UP as he is thrown like a marble shotput into the oncoming apes. This is the end for Bulby, rewarded for his anagram with certain death, and for Kath Ulu's Grookey, left behind to cover her escape. This is the end for Blue, who chooses to fight rather than fall.
Gold sweeps the stairs, the walls, the ceilings. It transforms brick by brick, tile by tile, spreading like an ink-stain that becomes a torrent.
As the players fall into mist, into mystery, the droplets falling around them seem to quiver. Before your eyes, the water itself runs gold as the canals and waterways fill with gilded light, binding roots, clogging grates.
The waterfall roars, thunders with the weight of metal, surges like a fresh-forged river. As you make it to safety, the temple's transformation is completed. The rush of water grows still as it cools, solidifies, and is finally silenced.
This is the end.
This is the midas rush. DUNGEON COMPLETE!
final time: 2:59The jungle holds one last secret. As the players make their way out of the Canopy, each of you inevitably comes across a second altar, twin to the one you found in the temple. It squats in your path, mute and mossy and bearing two familiar figurines.
One is a finger, made of pure, shining gold.
The other is an eye, carved from solid white marble.
You chose to take a curse.
Now you may choose to return it, or embrace it.
