The motions were familiar by now as he took a step back—the Quaxly following him in the same motion; while making sure not to knock into the sleeping Growlithe as the Murkrow returned back to his nest—the Celesteela would unfurl themselves from the red beam of light.
[tangent=“Hello again,”]“Bonjour à nouveau,”[/tangent] he would quickly switch to French; catching the Murkrow’s attention, [tangent=“…can you try any of your Steel-type moves? Any which one works. Just that. It has to be a Steel-type one, okay? Thank you.”]“…peux-tu essayer l’un de tes mouvements de type Acier? N’importe lequel qui fonctionne. Juste ça. Il faut que ce soit un mouvement de type Acier, d’accord? Merci.”[/tangent]
The corvid Pokémon would blink and stare at him in quiet wonder as the Celesteela very nearly swung one of her rocket-arms around; only to see that there was not enough room, so instead…
One of the rocket-arms would raise themselves up—almost level to their line of sight—before a Flash Cannon attack was loosed upon the ever-multiplying Patrat horde that never seemed to lose numbers!
Just what was up with these rats, anyway?! Endless spawning?
Celesteela used Flash Cannon (steel-type move)! Prompt #16: [Tower] i5mAmDLN1-501-50

Just as the Murkrow was about to start making a crack at him about the language he was currently speaking, he would make a shushing gesture in the corvid’s direction—one that meant that he would tell the Murkrow something later once the current prompt was completed.
(Or it really depended if the next prompt still needed his Celesteela to be out on the field, so…)
[tangent=“Never expected to see that,”]“Je ne m'attendais pas à voir ça,”[/tangent] he continued—he didn’t need to raise his voice; for apparently his Celesteela had rather sharp hearing—at least when he was speaking his third language.
[tangent=“Can you make the loudest noise you can?”]“Peux-tu faire le bruit le plus fort possible?”[/tangent] he would ask the Celesteela, looking up at her; as she had also chosen the time to stare down, down, down at the tiny little human by the bottom of her ‘dress’.
Almost immediately the loud, shrieking noise of a Metal Sound would rip and shake through the room; forcing everyone present to cover their ears!
The Growlithe had actually woken up at the sound and was now all distressed howling in the Celesteela’s direction—while the Quaxly and the Murkrow had to bite down on their beaks to bear the scraping, screeching noise as it reverberated in such a small space!

Thankfully, the gross reverberating noise would not linger any longer than it needed to as the next prompt appeared—and to spare everyone’s ears some form of mercy, he would quickly recall the Celesteela; which would result in the grossly-magnified noise in the small space tapering off.
“S-sorry,” he hissed to all his Pokémon present; while the Growlithe was still howling out of distress, the Murkrow cawed angrily at whatever that huge thing was—before the Quaxly stepped forward.
Huh, the Water-type could hit the current—
Without further ado, the duck Pokémon would slap the incoming Patrat with a Double Hit attack, smacking it twice in a row across both cheeks and sending it flying!
“Th—thank you,” he continued as he stuck his fingers into his ears. Shit, was this tinnitus or something…?
Quaxly used Double Hit (normal-type move)! Prompt #18: [Tower] BxxGWqAs1-501-50

Once the current prompt had been cleared, the next would appear—and seeing as the Growlithe was awake, he would crouch down and rub at the Growlithe’s ears affectionately.
“Hey, Max,” he began as he lavished as much attention as he could on the canid Pokémon, “…sorry about earlier. I knew you were taking a nap and then a shrill noise woke you up. I’ll… try to be more careful around you sleeping, okay?” he would reassure the Fire-type, who would bark exactly once before licking his fingers; a sign that his apology had been accepted.
‘At least they seem to be the easy type to forgive and forget, I hope,’ the Murkrow would squawk from his perch, shedding a few loose feathers while the Growlithe then turned around in time to see a Patrat coming their way!
A simple burst of Embers would do the trick, scaring the Patrat away from them.
“Just. Let me know if the noise is too much, okay?” he would follow up. He would get a singular bark in return, which he had long learned to interpret meant ‘yes’ (as two barks meant ‘no’).

The next Patrat was already glaring at them like it wanted to take the Growlithe out—and the next prompt—almost made him burst out into a manic fit of laughter.
Now it gets violent after nineteen floors? Really? he thought to himself as the Fire-type did an about-face and glowered at the Patrat that had dared interrupt their one-on-one bonding time.
“Well, Max, I know you want to get violent, so… have at it! Remember that move you used to knock out Shalin Nariya’s Bulbasaur? Let’s try that again!”
A singular bark of approval, before the Fire-type rocketed forward, this time—none of that silly inverted directions business—before slamming their entire flaming being into the Patrat and sending it flying halfway across the room.
“Wow. Never knew that move was that powerful… though the recoil leaves a lot to be desired…” he hummed as he crouched down and waited for Max to return, hopping into his arms and smelling of singed fur in the process.
“Hey, hey, you did great,” he would shush the whining and panting noises by giving the Fire-type a chin scratch.

At least the next prompt didn’t need for him to call out another companion as he stood up, holding the Growlithe in his arms as the tilted his head in the Quaxly’s direction.
All too eager to please, the duck Pokémon would skid forward again—really, this one was too eager to jump the gun and get things done—before smacking the next Patrat in the face with an Aqua Jet attack.
“Hey, hey,” he would call in the Water-type’s direction, “…what did I tell you about jumping the gun? I’m sure you want to prove yourself so bad, but… can you try to slow down every once in a while? Sometimes, jumping ahead can get you into a lot of trouble.”
‘Yeah, you heard the bossman, he’s got a point. Try to slow down every once in a while,’ the Murkrow would caw from his perch atop his head.
“See? Even Muninn agrees with me.”
The Quaxly would turn back and look at them, embarrassed flush on their cheeks.
Maybe they did understand.

All too soon there would be a new prompt, but at the same time—the entire place started rumbling. What—what was going on?!
The Quaxly would run back towards where he stood, hanging onto his leg with a wing while the Growlithe sniffed the air. The Murkrow had seen most of the change, and this time…
Wait, why were the Patrat that were appearing now holding…
‘You’re not going to believe me when I say this,’ the corvid began as he pointed ahead with a wing, ‘…but look at what the Patrat are holding now.’
That would make him stop—and almost dropped Max had he not realized he was holding a Pokémon in his arms!
“What the… what the fuck?” he would gape, seeing as the Patrat now had… hard hats, and were holding… tools? Worker’s tools? What in the name of—
The Quaxly would then quack loudly in their direction before this time standing their ground where they stood; releasing a surprise Air Cutter attack at the first Patrat that was approaching, holding what looked like… was that… a screwdriver? The same kind used to screw in things in walls, in floors, and—?!
‘QUACK!’ the Water-type would bay angrily, making sure that none of the Patrat would get close enough to where they stood.

It was a good thing that they weren’t part of that insane ‘race’ thing (the one between Josh Devlin, Alicia Westfield and Kyukon) otherwise he’d have been dead last in a manner of speaking.
Talk about the Tower literally railroading him with the one move type he didn’t have!
(Plus, he’d been offline for a few days to deal with work, so…)
Now that he was back, they had the exact one Pokémon that had the one move they could use… hopefully they weren’t going to get railroaded by one move type again!
(In hindsight, he was actually missing at the very most two types, but that was going to be a problem for future Alkaid.)
There was a Patrat that was holding something that looked like a miniature… okay, what? A saw?!
The Charmander would appear in a flash of red light, blinking out of sheer confusion.
“I know. It’s weird. But… can you knock the saw out of their hands?”
The Fire-type would tilt their head at him, still confused—however the Patrat with the mini-saw was already approaching, and the surprised Charmander would lash out with a surprise Dragon Breath attack—which was exactly the reason why he’d gone hunting for this one in the first place!
(But honestly, he was in the market for a Charizard, so at least this made some sense!)
“Th—thanks,” he would breathe out, watching as the ticker swapped to the next prompt… what insanity would he be facing next?

The good news was that he didn’t need to swap out Pokémon for the next prompt that flashed on his screen; because he already had aforementioned Fire-type out and ready to attack!
This time, the next Patrat that came screaming their way was holding… aww, wasn’t that cute? A small, Patrat-sized pair of pliers…
Wait, pliers?! How in the hell could a Patrat be able to use these things?!
They had opposable thumbs, yes, but what the fuck?
The Charmander would yelp in surprise; before releasing some surprise Embers from their maw; singeing the Patrat’s fur and making them drop the pliers out of surprise at suddenly being torched from a distance.
Wow, ouch!

The next prompt that appeared made him crack a bit of a smile, because—he had several that could hit this, but he didn’t want to like, risk, the entire Tower folding in on itself because of the sheer size of the Celesteela, or the Kartana shredding everything into nothingness—
So instead he would pop out the Rockruff. He’d been playing with names on what to call this one for a while now; but he had to make sure that the name he picked out would be alright with them because, you know. Freedom of choice. Or was it expression?
The Rockruff would literally hit the ground barking like crazy, watching as a Patrat that was holding… okay this was ridiculous. How could a Patrat use a monkey wrench that was much too big for themselves?!
“Uh… I know. Strange,” he would apologize in the Rockruff’s direction. “But can you do something for me?”
The canid Pokémon would bark several times before charging forward—wait, wait, hold up, just how many non-verbal Pokémon did he have so far?
First it was Max, now it was the Quaxly, and not it was the Rockruff too?
In no time flat the monkey wrench would be sent flying from the Patrat’s hold by the Rockruff.

The prompt then changed, and it was just his luck he was thinking about this particular non-verbal Pokémon of his.
(What if they never chose to talk, if at all, despite having the option to do so?)
Before he recalled the Rockruff, he would crouch down and give them a chin scratch. “You can take your time too. Just like Max and the Quaxly. I know not everything happens right away, so. You can talk to me when you feel that you’re ready, okay?”
In response he would get his fingers gently nibbled on by the Rockruff, before recalling them back into the red beam of light and swapping them out for aforementioned overeager Quaxly would let out a very loud ‘QUACK!’ upon hitting the field once more.
(For yes, they had to leave the Tower while looking for that blasted Dragon-type move!)
“Alright, alright. Don’t get too eager now,” he would cackle quietly as the Quaxly wreathed themselves in water once more; before charging in a Liquidation attack and barreling towards the nearest Patrat that was now holding what appeared to be a longnose tool.
These tools were getting stranger and stranger…

Hm. Maybe it would be wise to have some of the other Pokémon he would need hanging around rather than keep calling them back and forth because this was going to get exhausting if he kept recalling and swapping Pokémon out…
The next prompt made him smirk for a few moments; it was time for the Charmander to make their appearance once more.
“I need your help again,” he would say the moment the Fire-type appeared once more. (The Quaxly had since retreated to hang around somewhere behind his legs.)
“Can you… get that next one?” he gestured at the prompt; while the Charmander would look at it in confusion, they would then nod before swinging their tail—reminiscent of how Josh Devlin’s Char…meleon (he could swear the last time he saw this Pokémon it was a Charmeleon) then sprint forward with Fangs lit ablaze with Fire as the next Patrat, this one wielding what appeared to be a double-bowed saw came charging forward.
Honestly, this tower is being weird. I swear if the next one is holding a drill… he thought as the Charmander made short work of the Patrat and sent it flying.

Huh? Use the same move… twice? What the—
The Charmander would turn around and look at him, confusion on their features while he tried to puzzle this one out because—how was that even…?
“I guess… since you’re already here, might as well have another go?” he would continue in the Charmander’s direction, who was just as confused as he was. “Just. Use the same move twice, and we should be good.”
The Fire-type tilted their head at him in confusion, before another nod as they turned their attention towards the—okay this was getting ridiculous, there were two Patrat headed his way and they were balancing a power drill between themselves.
Wait, what, a power drill?!
“Alright, go!” he would encourage the Charmander on; who would then concentrate before using Ember once, on the first Patrat.
The loud squeal it made was nothing to the second Ember that they let loose; aiming for the second Patrat and therefore making them drop the power drill…
Power drill, honestly? What was next?

Okay, and now he had to back up and make room. It was a good thing he had a single-stage—but the problem here was that they were all the strange ones, the ‘Ultra Beasts’ that…
He would have to play his cards carefully on this round. Once the Charmander and the Quaxly were safely behind him, he would pop open the Celesteela’s Pokéball, watching their gigantic form unfurl themselves from within.
[tangent=“Hello,”]“Bonjour,”[/tangent] he would greet the rocket ship. [tangent=“Can you take care of that for me, please?”]“Peux-tu t'en occuper pour moi, s'il te plaît?”[/tangent]
He would gesture at the… at this Patrat that looked like it was dual-wielding two wrenches.
Oh, this was going to be fucking overkill; but what other choice did he have in the matter? The Quaxly and the Charmander would watch in shocked silence as one of the ‘rocket arms’ raised themselves up, before firing off a Flash Cannon at this Patrat.
Though, for some reason—when did that silvery light from the Flash Cannon attack take a greenish hue?!

He would have to puzzle out what the hell happened there—he knew that Flash Cannon was a Steel-type attack, so how did it turn into something that was colored green? There was evident confusion on his face as he recalled the Celesteela once they’d gotten the job done; only for another source of light to catch his attention—
The Charmander pointed at the Quaxly, where the light was apparently coming from—wait, hold up, one second, what was going on?!
As bright as the light had come, it had faded… and the Quaxly was no longer a Quaxly, but…
‘You told me to take my time talking, right? Well… here I am,’ the now-verbal Qua—the now-verbal Water-type began quacking, in a manner of speaking! He would blink, before…
“That was… was this because you—” he stammered, before a wing was waved in his direction.
‘I told you, it was nothing, right?’ the now-Quaxwell would hum, and he would just—stare at the sight. ‘I know you said the same for the Charmander here.’
That made the Fire-type suddenly become very shy, hiding behind his other leg.
‘Alright, what do you need me to do?’
He… wow, who knew that the Quaxwell was this talkative? There was one Patrat who was approaching with… okay this was getting really ridiculous, why were they pulling along an entire tool box now?!
“Right. Can you take care of that one for me?”
‘What even is it pulling behind them?’
“I know. Strange place, strange rules.”
‘On it!’
The Quaxwell would then leap forward with a grace that their previous form did not possess, before coming in hot with a—
Wait, was that a Low Sweep attack?!
“I didn’t know you could do that!”
‘What can I say? New look, new moves!’
