Never work again. The world would never be the same.
They would never work again. She would never be the same again.
But that was okay. She had come to terms with it, expected it. Understood it. The Mother had come to know what it meant, what changes she had to make. How the world would view her, how it would change her too. She had been nothing. But she had made herself become something. The pain haunted her, drained her, consumed her, but she had fought again, and again, and again.
The weight of her fears weighed upon the world, twisting in vile shapes. Black worms cracked, sparked, and threatened. Demanding her attention, her fear, her desperation. They clawed ever closer, stabbing into the ground like a hungry predator eager for its next meal. The Mother stood, eyes closed for a brief moment as a deep breath was taken. The wires sprung ever closer, twisting into recognizable shapes. Pointing fingers, mocking faces, people walking away.
A sympathetic expression one minute, guilt the next, then nothing. Abandoned. All while the claws of emptiness crept even closer. The ever-reaching grasp of hate, pain, suffering, it demanded more. Electricity crackled, ready to make the Mother suffer evermore. Only the strike that had been planned, did not come. The piercing pain through the heart had been averted. The suffering had only been prolonged, claimed the nightmare.
The Mother was burning as hot as the sun.
"No," A decree, a demand uttered. Staring down into the faces of those who had left her. The ever-changing ocean of wires, an endless stream of emotions, said nothing. It didn't need to. Every word it could say, has already been thought before. "You will not claim me."
Heat poured off in waves, melting the outstretched hands that dared press in too close. Metal and rubber slumped to the ground, a familiar, unfortunate smell that she would never forget, now caused by her own will. The fire had tormented the Mother, but now it was her salvation. The power of the absent sun fueled her, carried her, held her and cradled her. Through it, she stood strong against the endless hoards.
"I suffered. I know." Said the Mother, her words as calm as they could surrounded by the endless hate that demanded her anger. "I was abandoned by those I needed most."
"Friends left me," said the Mother.
"I was alone."
"Absence terrified me," said the Mother.
"I was nothing."
"But, that was all a lie," said the Mother.
"I was never nothing. I was never alone."
Arms stretched out, she took a step forwards. The worms screamed in pain, attempting to swarm even as the burning heat filled the road. Flames radiating like a shimmering, shining star. A torch of her own cosmos. A burning footprint was left in the asphalt, leaving evidence of her resolve.
"I have worth. I have purpose. I know who I am. I might forget, I might struggle, I might suffer. But the truth will always be there. The sun always exists, even during the darkest of nights."
She takes a few more steps, the ocean of hate parting as the flames of her radiance melt it to scrap. The wreck, still burning of its own accord, once again in sight. The mother lets out a shaky sigh, confronting the truth of the nightmare. Kneeling admist the debris, the wires twisted into shape. A recognizable shape, a form not unknown to the Mother, twisted together from scraps of the wreck like a puppet built from the darkest of fears.
It was of her own, her true face. No sounds were made, but as it moved the Mother could hear their words. They used to be her own, after all.
"They left us to die!" Said the Anger.
"They couldn't look at us anymore," Said the Hurt.
"They thought we weren't worth being friends with anymore," Said the Abandoned.
"They had told us that we were going to be okay. They lied to us," Said the Fear.
"They believed we would be better off dead," Said the Useless.
"They never stood up for us," Said the Disfigured.
"They were right," Said the Nothing.
The Mother was silent, staring down at a perverted mockery of her own face. Her own feelings, her own fears, her own words. She could not deny them. The heat of the sun began to set, as the swarm crowded in. Desperate to end what it feared the most. Eager to claw out the one thing it dreaded more than anything.
"They were wrong," Said the Something.
The swarm hissed out in anger, faces twisting in rage. Claws struck, ripping chunks in the road, melting into the building heat once more.
"They struggled with guilt," Said the Compassion.
The swarm screamed, furious, demanding anger. Demanding to be proven right, to be told that the fears were built on logic. The worms grew desperate, swarming in total. Every direction was endless burning rubber as it poured in.
"They would want me to believe I still have worth," Said the Hope.
The Nightmare held no strength over the Mother anymore. It's attempts to stall her couldn't contain her. With a very focused step, she burning step after burning step. Her own face in the swarm began to melt into rubber and metals, slumping forwards. The horror of destroying her own figure dawned on the woman, but it was more than that. A representation of everything she was not, of everything she was. The true heart, the true fight for her soul every single day. More words echoed into her own mind as she watched.
"How can you be so sure?" Said the Nothing. "What if you're wrong?"
"Because I know something you never could," Said the Determination. "We might falter, we might struggle, and we might fall. But we will always take one, more, step."
"Because we have friends who met both sides of us," Said the Love. "And they still care."
"They don't know the truth," Said the Nothing. "They'll abandon us, just like the rest."
"I know their truth," Said the Faith. "They go out of their ways to support us. To care for us. To make us happy."
"I know our heart," Said the Confidence. "We are more than what we can not do. We are more than what we can not be."
"For our sake," Said the Nothing. "I hope you are right. I really, truly do."
"Me too." Said the Mother. "Me too."
The wires all crumbled to the ground, the mockery of her own fears melted to nothing. The Mother stood there in the street, letting the heat of her soul wash across the landscape. Never has one been so thankful for a move of the gods at her fingertips. The dark gloom remained, but the nightmare, the attempted death by her own very heart, gone.
"Now," Said the Mother, finally taking in another deep breath. "Where is my baby? I shall not ask twice."

Laguna couldn't help but just laugh as Orion scared away a horde of bugs, only to immediately summon another with the fridge. "You know?" She'd flip down atop a rock, attempting to scan her image to see if she could even see the Delibird within it. Was he even in the image? Maybe if she was a Jeweler and unlocked that microscopic sight, she'd be able to see. "I think you're just cursed, Orion. Genuinely. I feel like they're gonna follow you, even in Ostelia. Maybe you should catch one, make peace."
She'd laugh, only to hear a loud, echoing sound come from the distance. It was a deep cry, but it sounded so oddly familiar despite being so low pitched. Immediately, she shut up and went silent. What the hell was that?
Silently motioning for her friends to follow along, she'd pull out another tool in her Bird Finder arsenal. It was a directional microphone! That, looked like it was put together with the budget of an elementary school science fair. Still, she couldn't complain when she bought it back in Briarbane, it was better than absolutely nothing. Honestly, it looked more at home in some wacky Saturday cartoon ghost hunters kit.
The loud sound echoed again, picking up on Laguna's microphone as she recorded it. Perhaps it was unrelated, but these little events seemed to always tie everything together somehow. It was pretty rare that she'd join a quest or an event, only for something entirely unrelated to happen. If every quest dragged you into another quest, never letting you finish the one you were on, that would be pretty bad game design!
Suddenly grinning wide, she laughed quietly to herself and motioned with her friends. "It's coming from this way! You ever hear a Delibird cry like that before? It's gotta be them! What else could it even be?"

#s://i~imgur~com/JcN61zL~png Laguna had glanced at the last texts briefly, before continuing her drive. She hoped that her cheeks would stop burning by the time she had actually arrived. Even though she totally knew that she'd blush just at the sight of seeing him all over again. Taking a deep breath, her eyes might be focused on the sidewalk ahead of her, but her head was completely in the clouds.
She felt fuzzy, dizzy, and totally would have wobbled to the ground if she could actually walk. This was a date, and her heart was pounding away so fast.
The stars seemed to shine so bright tonight. The moon reflecting off the ocean, the cool night air, the smell of smoke and barbecue on the air, mixed with the salty ocean breeze. For just a moment, it was genuinely easy to forget her worries.
Nothing else mattered. Not now.
By the time she had finally arrived, watching Orion hop out from his truck, her smile was genuinely a mile wide without even thinking about it. She immediately laughed at his words, rolling her eyes slowly as her motor was rolled to a stop. "Oh goodness. No cool kids allowed? I don't know, I think we'll be fine. Neither of us are that cool enough." Abigaelle laughed again, her smile genuinely sparkling.
Only for Orion to comment on her looks, and her flustered state immediately returned in full force. He would be greeted to the sight of her cheeks becoming bright red almost instantly, even as she continued to smile while flustered. A hand instinctively moved up to curl a finger around a strand of hair. "Oh, hush! I just, freshened up a little. Spending all day at a con, full of people who never have any other reason to leave the house, certainly isn't good." Even still, she was absolutely feeling a bit of pride. She knew this dress was cute!
Abby giggled quietly, slowly starting up little motor again and rolling down to the beach. Once she got onto the sand, her chair clearly struggled more to move, but it seemed she was used to it. Parking down near the fire, she'd quickly move to detach the motor before turning her chair around. It seemed she had little gloves on to protect her hands from the wheels, just a simple precaution while she was still moving around.
"S-so, uh," Abigaelle paused, looking up at Orion as she tapped her fingers atop the pizza box on her lap. "Do you, wanna grab a bite first? Or, how do you wanna do this? I haven't uh- well, I don't think it's a secret that I don't get out much myself." Right on cue, came back the flustered, cautious woman he had met at the convention center, despite her best attempts. "It's good pizza! It's a local place, I get it all the time. I didn't know what toppings you liked, so i just figured, well, just cover it in tons of meat and cheese, hah."

"What the FU-" Laguna immediately shouted out in response, stunned silent almost right after. What in the world was that? She was immediately preparing for a fight, expecting some kind of terrible nasty corrupted creature to come her way before she heard the familiar voice ot Tuesday calling.
"If it is a, huff, f-fight they want, it is a fight they will get! Have at thee!" Tabby suddenly charged forwards, swimming as fast as their Magikarp form could. As angry as a Magikarp could possibly be, almost looking for a fight.
"No no, Tabby, Relax. That's... Tuesday, I think. A friend."
The fish stalled in their tracks, suddenly just floating still as the currents pushed them forwards. "... Not a fight. Understood. But, soon. Right. I'll stay ready, at any moment." They clearly paused to catch their breath, such a charge already had them exhausted.
Kicking forwards, one of Laguna's arms would wrap around Tabby as she carried them forwards until she was finally able to actually see the other trainer and their Kyogre. She immediately let out a deep sigh of relief with a smile swiftly forming. "Well, isn't this convenient! I take it, you're also trying to find the doors too, huh? I haven't heard of anything else down here."
Laguna just laughed, all while Tabby was dead silent. Their eyes locked onto Legion the Kyogre. Expression indescribable, as the fish's wide eyes never blinked. But there was clearly endless thoughts suddenly happening behind their eyes, emotions swirling like never before.
"I should have known you wouldn't have let such a mystery lay silent. Apologies for my uh, shout, haha. I forgot what Legion sounded like for a moment. I've heard them before, but- man. How you two doing?" Her next question was clearly directed at the Kyogre, chuckling quietly to herself.

Laguna just sat back, laughing as he suddenly began crafting up a few oars like it was nothing. She really should utilize the crafting more often. It sounded more useful than she probably realized. "Looking good! Let's get going! Bertha?"
"Oh! Yes?" The Cetoddle suddenly turned around, the Quaxly whispering into its ears confusing it intensely. It wasn't going to sink the boat! Even if they could swim, and she knew her trainer could apparently breath underwater, that would be rude!
"Keep your eyes peeled, we're setting sail."
"Aye aye, cap'n!" The Cetoddle pushed its flippers and feet, kicking forwards and keeping up with the old boat.
As BigBee rowed, Laguna kept her own eyes peeled herself. Sitting down at the front, Laguna's hands gripped around her fancy wand, twirling it in preperation. Just in case.
It didn't take long for something to interrupt their journey. The current seemed strong, pulling them somewhere as if by design, until the whole waves just rocked violently, something pulling them drastically off whatever course with visible strain on the boat. Within just seconds, the water began to swirl, twisting and sinking down into a whirlpool out of absolutely nowhere.
But this wasn't natural in the slightest. At the very bottom of the twisting waves laid a large, open blue maw as two massive claw-like limbs reached up above the waves, snapping aggressively.
"What is that!" Cried out her Cetoddle, caught entirely by surprise, their flippers slapping on the waters.
"Doesn't matter!" Laguna immediately cried out, twirling her wand as the seemingly magical tailwind of cold air formed, hoping to push them out of the unnatural whirlpool. "Just attack it! Bertha, Ice Shard!"
"O-on it boss!" The whale was careful of her duck passenger, as it opened its own large jaw. Razor sharp shards of ice fire forth at one of the limbs, hoping to draw attention away from the boat. "H-hey you big, nasty! Fight me!"

Empty. The desert is empty. The sweet ice tyke, her voice, her spirit, her form, removed. Ice forms with ire, form prepped. "Where-?" Voices the Mother, expressed misery with her cry.
She presses forth with hope, the keys to this mess viewed with time. She hopes. The Mother seeks her kid, her frosty tot, provokes the rot of this deserted district
Time becomes mystery. Feet step, step, step, eyes wide. Sky devoid of shimmer, zero remote torches over the cosmos. However, the Mother moves forth despite. Horror seizes her, yet her devoted mite be discovered with misery.
Tick. Tock. Step. Step. Tick. Tock. Step. Step.
"I'm tired..." The Mother whispered to the empty.
The Empty spoke of this forever. The Empty spoke of her worries. The Empty spoke of this crime. The Empty spoke of her woes.
Her psyche, victimized. Before the Mother, stood series of two.
Two streets. Two tires. Two bodies. Two wrecks. The Mother wept, sobbed. She dropped, broke. "Yet here?" Her eyes red, dripped wet. Yet the Mother stood some more. "How rich, this horror is poor, dim, if it deems this distress to stop me."
Discomfort pierced their spirit, despite the Mother's decree. Where were the others? Who posted the text? Where is her kid? The wreck terrified her, but the horror with the bitter bite to petrify her is yet there to see.
Silence. Fear. Trauma. Alone. Loss. Hurt. Anger. Desperation. Abandoned. Alone. Alone. Alone. Acceptance. Ugly. Disfigured. Useless. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

Laguna honestly didn't spend much time in the Surge Steppes, it was still a pretty foreign place to her. She didn't really ever imagine climbing the massive spires, but she had to admit it was quite enjoyable. She just laughed, the freezing cold metal not affecting her Freezer body at all.
Even still, the Yanma swarming all around were certainly annoying. Her Cryogonal, Sir Hail, floated right behind her back and protected her from the swarming mass. With a sudden Rapid Spin, his icy chains smacked many a Yanma that fell down below.
"You see the bird?" Laguna immediately craned her neck up high atop the spire, seeing a very fuzzy figure at the top. Grabbing her cheesy disposable camera, she immediately began to pounce forwards. Pushing through the swarm and attempting to lead the way, a Sunsteel Strike would have an incredibly warm heat radiating off her body, keeping the Yanma at bay as she suddenly flung forwards like a miniature rocket.
"I'll get a picture!" Laguna shouted, only to slam face first into a massive cloud of Yanma right in her face. "G-gah! Move bugs! You're gonna make me waste my film! I only got so few shots! Do you have any idea how expensive film is these days?"
Sure enough, she narrowed her eyes and desperately attempted to snap a picture before falling back down. Her dedicated Crygonal swiftly caught up to her, his icy chains wrapping her waist and pressing her against the spire again. "Careful, my good lady. This swarming mass is a menace to much of pleasant society."
"Yeah, I can tell, hah. I just only hope that image develops okay."

It made sense that historical accounts would lose the personal touch that first-hand accounts of playing the original games would grant. But "ancient UNOVA?" Just how many years in the future were they? Ancient implied far more than just one single lifetime. Ancient was thousands, if not more.
She listened quietly, rubbing her eyes and trying to stop any tears from flowing as Ash rested a hand on her shoulder. Ash trusted her to do the right thing. It was a lot to take in, the trust of a person she had all but idolized when she started the game. Ash trusted her.
Laguna let out a long, anxious sigh as she fought to control her nerves again. Maybe it wasn't fair that Ash didn't know, and couldn't ever know the truth. But that didn't prevent her from explaining all that she could, in a way that would make sense. It didn't matter that it was in a game. It mattered that this was real to her.
Her stomach still queasy, she nodded in response, once again listening as Ash spoke. She had so many questions, all completely justified and valid. What exactly could they all do? When did they have them? If Laguna really wanted, she could sit here and talk about every single thing, but there probably wasn't time for that.
Especially not with the sudden pop-up on her UI instructing her to explain a Single Topic from the list below. Laguna immediately closed the UI, trying not to imagine that this was a carefully constructed event by Hydance.
This was a real, genuine question from a woman who wanted to know the truth of a world that hid it all from her.
"Well," She'd sniffle, rubbing at her nose for a second. Her other hand just moving to affectionately pet down Glacia's glitch-filled spines as the tiny iceberg sat on her lap. "There's... a lot to go through. And, I don't really know if I can explain everything. But-"
"Professor, when we first met, I told you I was used to a wheelchair. That I was relearning to walk." She was quiet for a moment, her legs feeling oddly numb. She ever so slowly wiggled her toes, making sure she could still move them before beginning. All while Glacia looked on in curiosity. Even just properly admitting that took a lot of confidence to finally spill.
"It wasn't until I- er, I arrived in your lab, that I could walk again. I knew that, coming here, I would be able to walk. I... I heard it from others that had come before. That, they'd be healed. I didn't ask why, just like I didn't question these abilities we had until you started wondering. I just knew here, in UNOVR, we could do all kinds of things. I didn't know if you knew how it worked, at the time. I didn't know if you were aware, or even how much you knew about what we could do until much later."
"... It's entirely why I became a Trainer, you know. I've always loved Pokémon, but- I just really wanted to walk again, more than anything else. I hadn't walked for five years."
She's on the verge of tears again, and she swiftly moves to wipe her tears away. Her Pokémon is now looking on with a quiet frown, hoping off her lap and now looking at her trainer with a more concerned expressing. Glacia brushes against her thigh, speaking softly. A concern to their voice that hadn't been quite audible before. "I'm so glad you can walk here, Mama. I love skating with you." She clearly didn't seem to really process how Laguna was healed either, but they continued to show their endless affection regardless.
Laguna choked up for a second, just smiling down at her Pokémon. It was then she realized once again, that Ash couldn't understand Glacia. Discussing Pokémon Speech was one of the options given on that list, huh? She probably should address it.
"Just like, I knew from Trainers that came before that they'd be healed, or that they had wild abilities that defied logic. I was aware that some trainers even heard Pokémon. When I first arrived, I didn't hear them."
She slowly rubbed at her legs on pure instinct, slowly moving to tuck them under her side. "I think, it was because I didn't want to. I felt like, I had never heard Pokémon speak before- asides from like, this weird Meowth that learned to speak in a TV show, that probably wasn't real. But, did it matter to me? It didn't. So I just... didn't try to listen, I guess. I didn't try to understand. I was content hearing their cries as they were. I think, I was afraid it wouldn't be real? Like, their words would mean nothing." It was just a game, after all.
Laguna grew quiet again, moving to grab Glacia and lift them up, giving them a gentle kiss, once again cradling them close. "But, I'll be honest, I grew attached. I knew I would, and that was okay. I made friends just as I always did and I loved them. But," She suddenly paused, looking at Glacia. "This little one just had to break my heart, didn't you?"
"I'm sorry mama!" Her Bergmite immediately replied, visibly frowning. "I-"
"Shh, I know dear." Laguna spoke with a soft smile, gently squeezing them. "I know why you did it, and I'm proud of you. Just let me finish telling the story, okay?"
Glacia continued to frown. "But- but I didn't mean to hurt your heart mama! I just wanted to help! I knew you-"
"Shh, shh," Laguna gently placed a finger against the Bergmite's frozen jaw, slowly moving to set them down to the ground. "It's okay, dear. I'm not hurt anymore, you don't need to worry. Why don't you play with your new friend for a bit?" She of course, motioned to the little spirit, the flame floating in the room. "Let me finish speaking with the Professor, okay?"
"... If you say so Mama." Glacia only half-heartedly began to play with the spirit. More appropriately just staring into the flames, trying to see what she could see within.
Laguna let out another quiet sigh, but just smiled softly despite herself. She'd finally turn her attention back to Professor Ash, nodding her head. "I know that, must seem so awkward to you. But, I do understand her. In full, genuine English. She's like a child, but not all of my Pokémon are. It started when I was, well, arguing with her. It's all in the last log I wrote there. The one about the Moltres Sacrifice and the Trial of Sand. She clearly wanted to sacrifice herself again, and- a-and I, couldn't bear to lose her again. Getting her back from the Everworld the first time was so hard, the pain was so real, and I almost lost her for good. She clearly wanted to do it again."
She rubbed her arms awkwardly, looking away slowly. "I was, so upset with her. I refused. Her life was so important to me, and I begged and begged, but Glacia just, kept crying at me. Kept shouting, talking and talking and I couldn't understand them. And I just-" Laguna paused again, trying to find the right words for 'activating the menu option.'
"I just, willed it to happen, I think. I wanted to hear what they were saying so I could argue with them. Convince them to stop trying to tell me to do it. I cared so much, I couldn't dream of a single world where I'd ever let them do it again. And, wouldn't you know it, hearing their words had the opposite effect than I was hoping."
Laguna's eyes finally looked back up at Ash, this time genuine tears finally spilling from the corners of her eyes. "Ash, she called me Mama. That she knew I'd come for her. That it wouldn't be so scary the second time. And I just, broke. I sobbed, uncontrollably. And my other Pokémon suddenly spoke too. That we needed to act, to do something, and- I'm sorry. It was... a lot. "
She once again wiped her eyes free of tears, smearing it against her cheeks as she sniffled a bit. "Ever since then, I've been able to hear them. And it's like they've always been talking, we just couldn't understand. I can hear other people's Pokémon, even if they can't hear their own. I can hear Pokémon in the wild speak to me, if they try to. I can't tell you how we can speak to them, I don't really know. I just know that I can, and every Trainer recruited has the same potential all the others do. The seemingly magical abilities, the Pokémon speech, hell even I can just-"
She suddenly twirled her fingers, little snowflakes forming at her will and falling for just a brief second before melting in the warm room air.
"Maybe it's like, something in the land? Some lingering effect of Corruption? I've heard rumors that some infected trainers who helped with Bunya's corruption experiments are spoken to by... something." She paused again, continuing to wipe her eyes a bit. "But, you know, if you ever wanted to hear your own Pokémon's words, I can translate for you. Or, any Pokémon, I suppose. I'll always be here if you need me."
Laguna was quiet for a few moments, shifting where she sat awkwardly. "I-I mean it. I'm always here to help. Your kindness deserves that and so much more. I know, you probably just want me to help everyone too, to do the right thing. But, you deserve to know too. It's not fair that we can do these things, and you can't. I'm sure you have other questions too, bluh, I'm getting ahead of myself. Is there anything else, before I grow too sidetracked?"

"... And that's okay." Laguna watched the way he just sagged, crumpled in onto himself. The way he just melted, his fear, anxiety, and struggles all made visible.
She didn't move to take his hand despite his words, or dare take a single step that he wasn't ready for. The weight dragged down on her soul, feeling his hurt. She couldn't imagine how recent his struggles began, nor how long he had them, or even how severe they might be, but they were real nonetheless.
Just years ago, Abigaelle had heard the doctor's notice that she'd never be able to walk again. Paralyzed. The word had stuck with her, ruined her, tortured her every waking moment. Just the very thought of that moment had tears beginning to form, and she swiftly wiped them dry.
"T-that's okay," She spoke, a tearful tone as she fought to continue standing. Her legs felt like they were going to collapse beneath her at any second now. And yet, look at her now. Walking, despite the doctor's words. She was walking. It might not be 'real,' but it mattered to her.
It mattered. Because she said it mattered.
"Maybe... Maybe you can't. And that's okay. Maybe, even I can't right now." She let out a nervous laugh, slowly stretching her wobbly legs back and forth. "But, I know someone who can. He'll help us both."
She didn't hesitate, immediately tossing out one of her Pokemon. Suddenly, Sir Hail the Cryogonal formed at her side. The chivalrous Ice-Type Pokemon swirled into place, his icy chains twirling about as he spun almost like a top.
"Greetings," Sir Hail begaun, crossing his chains as if they were arms and then leaning forwards as if it was bowing. Quite the chivalrous individual. "How may I assist thee, this afternoon?"
"Elevator protocols, my good sir." Laguna would chuckle ever so softly, watching as the Pokemon moved one of its chains like a salute before just suddenly floating down to the ground. Their face facing the ground, leaving a fairly large, flat surface for someone to sit on, to be lifted straight up the wall with relative ease as the Pokemon just floated through the air. His chains could even be used like a seat belt, if one wanted.
Finally turning her attention back to Nero, she'd once again stretch her hand out. "We can just... Just, sit down. I don't know if you can hear him, but he's a gentleman, through and through. And-" She'd pause again, nodding her head ever so slowly. "And, if you still want to walk away, that's fine too. Trust is hard, and I can't blame you for struggling. I'll walk with you. But... If there is even a single ounce of you that wants to climb that wall..."
She'd grow quiet at that, her hand still out stretched. She didn't speak for a few seconds, just looking him in the eye, "Then, what are we waiting for?"

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png At his questions, Abigaelle just chuckled softly. Of course he'd wonder how fast she could go. It felt like such a normal question, something so casual, it helped her feel at ease, despite her butterflies.
It went unsaid that she'd have to explain her situation eventually. How she lost the use of her legs, among other things, but for now, for tonight, she wasn't going to worry about it. She was going to go dancing with a close friend, and that was all that mattered.
"About 20 mph! I could probably outspeed you even if you had a head start running, hah! Don't you fret your-"
She paused her texting, struggling to figure out what to write. Was now a good time to flirt? A bad time? It was a first date after all, but it had her so nervous. Would Orion enjoy the more forward approach? Subtle? She didn't really do subtle well. Maybe she should make it seem more teasing? After a few moments of indecision, she finally continued to type.
"-cute butt about it. You really went and modeled it in-game so perfectly after its real world counterpart, huh? I'll be there before you know it."
Even just typing that had her heart pounding, but she was just laughing to herself all the while.
Eventually, the train came to a stop and she swiftly moved right off and began to make her way to the beach. It was a beautiful night, the moon shining brightly in the sky. Taking a deep breath to steel her nerves, she kicked the little motor into gear and spend down the beach paths.
Abigaelle would be pretty obvious traveling up the beach, most likely the only one with a wheelchair and a motor attached to it, but she tried not to think of the stares of anyone else who might be loitering about the beach.
There was only one person tonight who she really wanted attention from. Was that so bad?

As players knock on the door to the house, whether they be alone, in groups, or some possible third state of being, they'd find silence awaiting them for a good half minute no matter how much knocking was done.
To the perceptive, it was almost odd. Like Bird Pokemon in the neighborhood were watching you.
Eventually, a little slit in the door opens up, like a plank just removed from the wood and large eyes poke out from behind the door.
"Good, you're here." They'd speak with no explanation, a desperate tone to their voice. "We need evidence. You trainers like rewards. We got rewards."
A paper would suddenly be slid down from underneath the doorway to the outside, a list of some basic examples of evidence they might need. "Help us find proof of the rare, elusive, and oh-so generous bird, and you'll be honorary members of the Bird Finder's Club. But please, be quick! The next club meeting is tomorrow and we can't waste a single second. Not if we want anyone to ever take us seriously."
The slit would be closed right away, leaving players only with the instructions and guidance from the papers. A few mumbled words could be heard from behind. Something about never being taken seriously by the professors?
{Mechanics} Mechanics: Every Post you find "Evidence," you may roll a d20 to determine the Quality of the "Evidence" found. A point Total of 30 is required to be considered irrefutable proof of the bird's existence, and to complete the Scenario.
After you Complete the Scenario, you are allowed to continue posting, adding your new rolls and "Evidence" found to another Player's total.
Players are free to travel anywhere within UNOVR to find "Evidence!"
Scenario Ends: January 10th, 11:59 PM EST
She was late, late late! Running so late! First Mom spotted her running by, and just had to have her taste her latest pie. Delicious, but she had no time! She had just enough time to pop off to the stores for some Cryptid Hunting supplies, decked out in a very silly green camouflage vest that totally contrasted with the rest of her outfit. Unfortunately, the only other camouflage they had left was cowboy hats, and she wasn't about to wear something like that. She'd look like all the idiots she went to highschool with who thought they were "real country" despite living in the middle of a big city.
Very shortly after the paper had been slid out and the door's slit shut, Laguna would have finally arrived right outside the place, catching up to orioncayge and Big Bee . "Oh! Hey guys," She held up her own little slip of paper, a wide grin on her face. Of course, she had to pause to finally catch her breath after running and sliding all the way here. "I see neither of you two could resist the call of blurry birds either, huh?"
"Did I miss the meeting?" She'd raise her eyebrows, glancing down at the paper with a curious look on her face. "Nevermind, you can fill me in on the way! Where we dropping, boys?" She'd pull out a small camera she had grabbed on the way here from a local store, old disposable film and all.

"Are you sure, this is the right place, Auntie?" Roxanne the Onix spoke, the massive rock snake curling around a giant metal spire, twinkling as if they were made of ice.
"I uh, it should be?" Laguna checked the clock, frowning a bit. She would think at least someone would be here by now. She stood up off the ground, dusting off her cool, cool jorts. and stretching a bit. "Let me double check-"
"WAAAAHHH!!" A loud cry shook her from checking her messages again, quickly glancing over at her Wishiwashi. Tears poured like a leaky faucet as it swam towards her, seeking comfort.
"Oh goodness, what is it?" Laguna would speak up, and immediately cup the tiny fish against her chest, holding them carefully.
"He's being MEAN to me again!" The little fish continued to sob, and Laguna immediately looked over at her Frigibax without a single second of hesitation. He was acting innocent, staring away into the distance.
"Brragon," She'd say his name, only for him to pretend he didn't hear her. "Brragon!"
"Alright, alright, but it was just a little scare! He's such a baby!" He roared out, arms stretched upwards. "I'm just trying to practice being big and scary!"
"You know better than to practice on Guppy! If he gets too scared, the whole school will come here and then you'll be the one running for mercy!" Laguna reminded him, gently brushing her fingers against the scales of the Wishiwashi to help calm him down.
"... Alright." Brragon sounded upset, slowly staring at the ground as if he didn't really want to admit the truth. "Sorry, Guppy. You just, get so cool when you have all your friends!"
"Really?"
"Really!"
"H-heh, o-okay! Still don't scare me though!" The little fish squirmed from her hands, and gently swam over towards the Frigibax, with clearly nervous movements
With that handled, for the moment, Laguna finally opened up her messages again, to look at the messages. She mentally cursed, only to swiftly climb atop Roxanne with a leap and moving to their head. "We're at the wrong spire, gang! We gotta move!"
"Huh?" Was pretty much the same sound echoed from her whole crew. Bertha the Cetoddle and Glacia the Bergmite stopped playing together, roughhousing and pushing each other back and forth. Marina the Brionne was in the middle of using bubbles to patch up their little scrapes here and there.
"We have to go for uh-" She paused, swiftly turning her head around. "That one!" She'd point into the distance, noticng some Pokemon and a trainer's silhouette in the distance. "Move out, gang!"
Bergmite and Cetoddle immediately laughed at each other. "I'm gonna beat you there!" cried out Bertha, running on their big legs before kicking into a frictionless glide across the steppes.
"Nuh uh!" Glacia countered so eloquently, suddenly High-Jump Kicking across the landscape, leaping over rocks and sliding whenever she landing.
"Girls, girls, you're both cool! This isn't a race!" Marina would follow suit, swimming through the air, leaving a trail of bubbles in their wake.
Just before Laguna could encourage Roxane to move, already gripping hard onto their horn, she leaned down and overheard her two remaining Pokemon speaking to each other.
"W-we should get going," Guppy said, swimming in place and floating forwards a bit.
"Yeah... But you know, we'd make it there a lot faster if you had your crew!" Brragon had a smirk on his face, clearly trying to encourage him to summon them, despite his hesitancy to just ask earlier.
"... Y-you uh, really like them, huh?" The Wishiwashi would ask, seeing the Frigbax nod furiously. "A-alright then, just uh- stay back." Tears would drop from their eyes, suddenly shimmering with the reflected light of the sun. And out of every nook and cranny between the rocks of the steppes, and around every corner hidden came a swarm of Wishiwashi. With a roar, they schooled up and effortlessly swept up her Frigibax in their mouth.
This time, it was the Wishiwashis' turn to roar. "Little man! Behold, the Demon of the Sea! RAAAGH!" And it suddenly charged forward, swimming through the air across the steppes, making a huge shadow down below.
Laguna just let out a long sigh, before chuckling quietly. "They really are such a handful."
"Oh, Auntie, I don't know how you put up with it. I get tired just watching them run and play all day." Roxanne spoke, that sultry voice of hers filled with humor as she kicked off, moving to join Big Bee and his Pokémon.
Eventually once within shouting distance, Laguna would raise her voice. "Hey! Sorry, I was over there!"

Most of the posters up on the Wanted Board are pretty simple. Some handwritten, others clearly printed and posted up with thought and care put into advertising their products, looking for a Pokémon or someone to do a quest with. The latest poster, however, seems... off.
There's not even an option to Fast Travel to the location listed on the strips cut apart. The strips aren't even perforated, despite the dotted lines clearly printed on them, you have to rip it out. It only adds to the sheer utter chaos that is the poster, slapped with post-it notes as if others have seemingly updated it.
Although... maybe there is something to the Poster after all? After all, what exactly is that figure in the pictures? Perhaps you'll have to find the address and find out for yourself.

Laguna once again could not sleep.
It was said that the night was young, but in truth nothing could be further from the truth. The night was ancient beyond all understanding. It was always here, always waiting to return, shining with the lights of ages millennia past. Even when the light of the sun drowned out the rest of the universe, the night was still there.
Normally during these late night sleepless sessions she would find something to distract herself from that fact, something to drain her energy until she would pass out. Diving through the depths of the poorly explored Drowned Harbor, doing some urban exploration in the Forgotten Nexus, or sliding down dunes in the Dune District like she was riding a wave. It was easy to zone out, to forget her problems. But tonight, it wasn't so easy.
She just laid there in the sand, staring up at the night sky and watching the stars twinkle to life as the sun set over the infinite horizon. Her eyes slowly scanning across star after star, just lost in her thoughts. Did Hydance program each and every star of the night? Did they make it resemble the true night sky? Or was this a custom creation? Just how wild was it to think that some people had a hand in shaping something as grand as the very night sky itself. She would have given so much to be able to place the stars in the sky with her own very hands.
Eventually, she was pulled from her thoughts as she felt a gentle pressure against her side.
"Mama?" Glacia suddenly spoke, the little Bergmite placing its forelegs against her side and giving a gentle push. "I thought we were gonna go skating when you summoned me. Is something wrong?"
Laguna slowly sat up, looking down at the worried expression on her Pokémon's face. She never could say no to them, not after everything. "Just... doing a lot of thinking, hon."
"What you thinking about?"
"About the stars," Laguna began, slowly moving to sit properly, crossing her legs as her Bergmite casually climbed into her lap. "There's so many of them. Do you want to go skating, dear?"
"Well," Glacia spoke up softly, as if suddenly taking on a shy tone to their voice. "I like spending time with you mama. The little things. We so often go and explore big things, or fight big things. I like the little things. Whether we just cuddle, or skate, or just exist, I like it all."
She couldn't help but sigh softly, nodding and giving the Bergmite a warm hug in her embrace. "You really know the words to make my heart melt, don't you?"
Glacia couldn't help but smile, giggling quietly to themselves. "I don't mean to mama. I just speak my mind!"
"And don't you ever stop."
Before the two of them could continue on in their late-night bonding session, or return back to gazing across the endless night sky, a message gets Laguna's attention. A strong creature and a map pin. Someone needed help.
It was pure instinct that her her standing up to her feet, readying to go. "Just got a message, my dear. Someone needs our help, think you're ready for it?"
"Ready as ever!" The Bergmite immediately high jumped out of her arms, twirling on the ground and shaking the lazy energy away. "Where we going?"
Laguna would view the map pin, only to stumble almost immediately. Her tone dropped drastically, as fear and trepidation entered in. "... Into the Corruption."
"Oh."
It went unsaid that she was more than a bit worried about this, but they both knew that they couldn't turn down the chance to help someone. If someone had wandered into the zone without knowing what they were getting into, it was her duty to help them.
She didn't help quell the corruption in Asper and free the very spirit of battle from its clutches to not help the average person. If Moltres stood no chance without support against the ever flowing tide of insidious, corrupting influence, how would just one person fare?
She didn't want to find out.
Laguna's wand twirled and with a freezing cold tailwind forming behind them, she began to move. "Let's go, Glacia. I know we just talked about the little things, but this big thing can't wait. Ready yourself for trouble, just in case." Her Bergmite nodded at her trainers words and the duo kicked off into the night.
Snowflakes and flames trailed behind her feet as she ran with incredible boosted speed, gliding across the sands with an ease most would never find. Using her legs were one hell of an adrenaline rush, almost like a drug, something she craved more than anything else in the real world.
She wasn't sure she could ever give it up, either.
With her thoughts wandering, only too aware of her exposed legs clad fairly nicely in a pair of Cool Jorts, the duo would eventually roll up on the location at hand. Nobody was here.
There was no sign of a confrontation, no sign of a struggle. Just the ruins looming in the distance, giving her an uncomfortable vibe that felt something fierce. They were gonna have to go in there, weren't they? Laguna glanced down at Glacia, the two understanding fairly quickly. There was no need for words right now, not when speaking might attract whatever threats dwelled in the area. With intense caution, the pair began to look around, searching for any sign of life, movement, or anything to reveal what could have required their presence.
