<And for my final act,> the Meowscarada announced to no one in particular (the birds, probably, who were not interested in the slightest, other than to be a nuisance), <Something absolutely bombastic!>
He let himself fall underneath the flying Pidgeotto, but leaving the flower hovering right above them, forming a ball before bursting into an explosion of color; the noise echoing and rumbling and making birds fall like leaves.
<Thank you, thank you, I (hate you all!)> the last part was actually not heard properly because he fell into the water, and he quickly resurfaced, sputtering, spitting out water and splashing like a little kid panicking they swum too far into the deep end. <Can we get out of here, please?!>

Arthur quickly returned the Meowscarada after thanking him, relieved to see that the prompt finally circled to the Mantyke. She was, however, definitely looking worn out after being out in the field for two straight floors. He hoped that he could bring her back in the Poke Ball to rest for a while once they cleared this one. There was just so much water! (7.8/10)
He told Anta to try to get the other birds to stop dive bombing for a while, so he ordered her to use Supersonic after he dove in the water to avoid the echo, which the Mantyke did. Underneath the water, all sounds became garbled as well as whatever was going on above the surface, but he could see the birds suddenly moving erratically before falling (not diving) into the water.
The worms scattered, with most already making their way to wherever they were supposed to go. One remained, swimming up towards him; its eye somewhat creepy at first, but it didn't seem dangerous. What was this thing? Was it a Pokemon?

A closer look revealed that the little worm thing had a red core in the middle, and it seemed to be regarding him curiously. Was this the same worm that he had been seeing since the fifth floor or something? Well, now that it was actually making itself known, he wouldn't be surprised if it was a Pokemon, but...it feels too simple. Like it was just a part of a whole. He supposed that made sense, since there were many other worms swimming underneath before leaving this little guy behind.
More Pidgeottos fell into the water, splashes dulled by the pool, and Anta soon joined them as they watched and moved away from respawning birds when they could. The worm was, at this point, clinging to Arthur's clothing somehow. The trainer glanced at the UI to see where they were, and they were close. Perhaps they might be able to make the dive now to the next floor.

The prompt would be left unfulfilled for some time.
Arthur decided that rather than try to work with the stupid dive-bombing Pidgeottos, he was going to move down without them and find a place where he could actually get his Pokemon on solid ground. He felt terrible having to ask Anta to help him swim, but there was little choice in making this trip as fast as they could go. When it was clear that the Mantyke was slowing down due to fatigue, though, he returned her to her Poke Ball first before making the rest of the trip himself. Thankfully, the game probably noticed how tired he was and felt currents form around his body, mostly when they got to the tunnels. Or maybe this was because there was a way out after all?
After what felt like forever (thank God he could breathe through all of this), he could feel a rush of water exiting through some kind of hole, and he couldn't fight that current and so fell down another pool as a result. He let out a yell as he fell into a not so deep but deep enough cavern lake, and when he got his head out of the water, he was so happy to see land to his northwest. Enough land to stand on, and to walk deeper in!
For some in-game reason the Pidgeotto spawned in out of nowhere and continued their diving nonsense, but now he had a place to pull out Bari to tackle them from, so he did just that. The squirrel popped out of the Poke Ball, and one of the Pidgeotto immediately changed tracks and aimed its beak towards him, to which the squirrel shot out another mushroom in its cheeks before body-tackling the bird while it was stunned (<Hiyah!>)

Arthur wished he could taste victory in his grasp (or at least the end to this stupid challenge), but all he tasted was some kind of water that didn't taste anything like the water he had back at home. He returned the Skwovet for the time being and let out Eru, who was still quite fresh since she didn't really have to fight all that much over the past few floors. Arthur was swimming towards her, and while he was doing that, the Cottonee covered him with Fairy Wind, pushing away the Pidgeotto from diving right on top of her trainer.
<What are these birds doing?>
When Arthur got to land, he didn't expect to be scrambling on it; his chest on the muddy ground as his arms and legs felt like they were giving out. ❝Don't...ask...just...❞ he gasped between breaths, the adrenaline slowly leaking out of his system. The Cottonee, concerned and slightly panicked, immediately started trying to boost his energy with whatever healing she could do.

Finally, the Pidgeottos seemed to have stopped dive bombing, and the cavern was quiet and still, save for the water gushing down the hole like a waterfall. In the confusion, it was only then Arthur realized that the worm with the red core was no longer on him, and he immediately panicked, trying to figure out if it fell anywhere near him. Shit, did he just lose the objective? Did it swim on without him noticing? He could feel his breathing steady now that he was sitting on land instead of water, and the Fairy Wind definitely helped.
They were not yet done though. The UI happily (perhaps tauntingly) displayed that they were four-fifth's of the way there. There were twenty more birds that he needed his Pokemon to pummel, and then they were free. After taking a few more minutes to regain some feeling in his legs, he stood up shakily, holding onto one of the large gnarled roots for support that grew on the wall of the cavern and pushed forth. There was a path here and he was going to walk it. He had gone this far...

It seemed that the worms were waiting for him, as many of the glowing gummies he saw from the previous "floor" (the damn pool) were wiggling around (like something he'd rather not think about) through the soil, under it, above it, just trying to get to some destination, who knew where. Amongst them, none of them had the red core that he saw earlier, and he was still worrying whether it got lost somewhere while he was swimming through the tunnels.
Well, there was little time to worry, because the calmness of the dripping cave was not to last. Winds suddenly blasted behind him, almost as if he was caught in a storm, and in the narrow tunnels were somehow even bigger Pidgeottos (the UI kindly told him that they were Pidgeot) with their stinky glares and sharper beaks, ready to tear them apart. Great! At least they were on land. Muddy, but land!
He pulled out Gou as a result, for the prompt asked him to heat things up.
<Oh hey it's actually been a-->
A blast of wind cut the Monferno off from finishing.
❝Less talking, more fire breathing!❞
Gou faced one of the Pidgeots that barreled forth and gave it a good helping of Flamethrower, lighting up the cave momentarily like the sun, turning up the temperature and increasing the humidity. It also made the bird screech and reel back, so that was nice. The sweating? Not so much.

<Wait, what are we doing?>
Apparently Arthur only realized then that the Vulpix had never been used in the challenge so far, so he hadn't heard the question pop up in a while. He figured that he didn't want to bother his Snubbull again unless absolutely necessary, and he still technically had other Pokemon in his roster. The worms underneath him continued their merry scramble towards somewhere further in the tunnels, but he could not move quickly nor run past them - not only would he risk accidentally stepping on one of them, but that would leave them defenseless against the Pidgeots. Somehow, the birds did not feel claustrophobic in these narrow and not-so-tall caverns, but even they would sometimes find themselves needing to fold up their wings just to navigate, or find pockets with higher ceilings to send bursts of wind.
❝We're beating birds. Weaknesses are revealed to me in a dream. This time it's Confuse Ray!❞
<That doesn't make any sense!> but she followed anyway, forming yellow orbs hovering above her small frame before unleashing it to the nearest bird.

Stat-raising move? Oh, he actually had a few of those, and the Monferno already had on him!
❝Gou, have you tried Nasty Plot yet?❞ he picked up a rock and threw it at one of the Pidgeots that was about to shove its beak into the dirt and pick up a worm. Somehow, the game registered this as bypassing their invincibility and giving the bird a bruise on its cheek. It squawked angrily before getting scared off by Vulpix's Ember.
<No?> he furrowed his brows and tried to think of how the move should be done. Images and words conjured in his mind - not necessarily thinking of something terrible, but a more conniving way to take down the Pidgeot. Well, that would be one way to do, but apparently, he just had to think these thoughts hard enough, and it should work. So he looked at one of the birds that swooped in close and really focused on ways he could take it down, and maybe that one particular bird had telepathy or something? Because it then started to squawk, looking rather terrified, and flew in the opposite direction.
Arthur was about to ask what the Monferno had thought of, but that seemed to be a moot point.

He had to return Eru for now for this next prompt. He swore that he wished he had more Galar Pokemon on him, but he had to admit that Bari was at least pulling his weight. Pulling out the squirrel again, he still had his cheeks stuffed with mushrooms, but there were no new ones to pick in the roots that snaked on the walls. Because of that, the squirrel also couldn't speak properly, making noises as he looked around before shrieking when a Pidgeot tried to attack him. Bari responded in kind with a graceful dodge (or as graceful as he could do it) before leaping into the air and body slamming the wild Pokemon with a good 'ol Tackle.

Winds continue to blast through the tunnels like there was a giant fan at the end of it, except for the fact that they were not constant. Arthur swore he saw a few of the worms get carried by the blast and flying for a moment before falling onto the ground. Thankfully, the winds were not strong enough to knock him off his feet; not unless he took a wrong step.
The Monferno had to wait for an opportunity (specifically when the winds died down, perhaps due to fatigue) before rushing into the large birds with a quick, glowing fist. In the chaos, Rou had to grab one of the worms by what could only be described as the scruff (or the back? the middle of the worm?) to carry it out of harm's way. One thing was for sure though, the winds were becoming less frequent compared to earlier.

Arthur didn't want to jump the gun just yet. He wasn't that close. But he was also so close..! He observed that the tunnels were more varied in shape now, getting larger and larger, opening to somewhere, surely, the end, hopefully! He switched out Bari and brought out his Poochyena, who was his only Pokemon that fit the prompt. The little black dog was more than happy to be biting more things, snarling and smattering his lips and teeth, running around, barking at the Pidgeots before leaping away from a jab and sinking his teeth onto feather, flesh and bone.
Despite the frantic turn of events, Arthur had to make sure that Hie was not in any danger of being thrown off. The moment that would happen he needed to time the return. As the bird swung its head around, screeching, the Poochyena had the intuitive sense to actually let go before the bird collided onto the cavern wall. He looked very proud of himself, taking down the big bird all on his own.

❝Good job, Hie!❞ he called the dog to his side, now blocking a much narrower, thinner path that barely left any room for him to move around. Once the dog was at the other side of the tunnel as well as his Monferno, he told Rou to let out another burst of flames to buy them time, push them back. The winds had died down and the birds were getting angsty, more willing to get close and take risks. The sharp talons were still terrifying, but Arthur was more confident about the bird's caution, especially with their singular HP.
❝Just a little more..!❞ he knew that after this, there were at least still ten more birds waiting for him, but he saw worms crawling, attempting to run past him, over his feet, under the soil. He would block the birds here. They shall not pass.
PROMPT #88: [Tower]kJ2gVm4G1-50 Shit. Shit.
No, not here! After they were so close!
He stumbled back before falling butt first onto the rugged cavern floor, the prompt hovering over his head like the world's biggest middle finger. He hadn't hoped it would happen, but because of that it did.
His Pokemon looked at him in alarm, and the Pidgeots, as if immediately knowing that there was nothing the trainer could do, fell back into the shadows, waiting for them to be summoned again. Gou had to watch his trainer pound his fist on the rock and dirt before he let out a string of curses.
Well, he could only guess what that meant: they probably had to leave the tower to get a new teammate again. 1-50

How the tower felt like a lifetime ago even when it wasn't was beyond him. He combed his hair back with no effect, and he stepped into the portal that would take him to the last floor that he had been on, on the brink of a cavern to another, against the birds that threatened all worm-kind and his worth as a player. When he teleported back into the cave, musty and humid, he was physically refreshed but mentally bitter. He had swallowed that pill already, but perhaps the anger it triggered had not subsided just yet.
First two in the world. Feh.
He let out the newly captured Noibat, flapping its wings quickly to stay in place. The Pidgeot, as if alerted by the appearance of one that could defeat them, respawn into the tunnels; their shrieks heard miles away; their winds even moreso.
❝Supersonic.❞
The bat screeched in return, directed away from them and into their opponents. Arthur made sure to cover his ears to lessen the incoming disorient, but he could hear the birds' cries. If only they were music to his ears.

As the tower's temporary upgrade was to last until the end of the run, when Arthur brought out Kanya, he was once again in his fully evolved form, but he didn't accompany his entrance with the usual fanfare. <I suppose third time's nyat the charm.> he muttered, flexing his paws that he had not fully grown into. <This being temporary...well, I can't wait for that to stop happening.>
It was perhaps another way to say that he hoped that this would be their last rodeo in this dungeon. Arthur really hoped so. He was not in the headspace to chatter; he just wanted this done, even if there was no point in speed, no person to chase.
❝Let them taste hell.❞
<A little over my pay grade.> the Meowscarada snapped his fingers and let the flower float ahead, away from the Noibat and much deeper into the tunnels where the remaining Pidgeots lurked. The explosion happened right after it left their line of sight, making the cavern shake and debris fall onto the ground. The roots, however, keep the tunnel from collapsing.
