WORLD EVENT: HEARTEATER PT.2But we are strong, each in our purpose, and we are all more strong together{24 HOURS AGO on UNOVR GLOBAL CHAT} Attacking Pokémon with move types that match their colors will free our lost friends. Bring Pokémon with as many attack types as possible. Players: Buy as many tomes as you can. 3ways in, sand city water. Psychic presence not just UBs at risk. Empty pokemon need color use type moves. Find Sarah w/ crucifix. Lion is friend let the light in, he is red help him. The bat enemy feeds on color turns into mist, bad. Savethemplease In the Dune District players gather around the missing sundial. In its place is an open maw that leads straight down into Hibernaculum: the prison that holds their stolen Pokemon.
Sand pours over the edge like an ancient infinity pool. Players have climbed out on top of the hole, where a temporary barrier prevents them from dropping right into the Dungeon's entrance.
Under their feet, words on the barrier alert them to the issue in bright, unmissable lettering.
đHIBERNACULUM: SUNDIAL ENTRANCE IS LOCKEDđ WORLD EVENT: HEARTEATER will begin in 00:02:41 Players talk excitedly about their missing Pokemon, unwavering in their determination to retrieve what was taken. This is, above all else, a rescue mission. One enterprising Ironsmith has even emblazoned an image of his stolen Sneasel on his breastplate.
In the Forgotten Nexus the mood is electric. Players are gathered in a basement room of the Midas Corp sub-dungeon, where a large cubicle farm space has been swept clean of old computers and memo-cluttered desks to make room for all the players.
They press as close as they can to the large elevator shaft that is blocked off with a impassable barrier.
đHIBERNACULUM: NEXUS ENTRANCE IS LOCKEDđ WORLD EVENT: HEARTEATER will begin in 00:01:56 Far out into the Drowned Harbor, a fleet of small boats carry players towards the Dragon's Den under a sky full of restless stars. The vessels stop just short of the scripted death zone. Bone-dry swimmers cheer as the mighty whirlpool churns before then.
Glowing lights float in the water, drifting between the boats and illuminating the message hanging above the whirlpool.
đHIBERNACULUM: HARBOR ENTRANCE IS LOCKEDđ WORLD EVENT: HEARTEATER will begin in 00:01:02 The minute mark clicks down to seconds and warning message fades out. The players are armed and armored. This is their moment. Their time to link arms and descend into the hive. The chance to make themselves whole again. To take back what was stolen.
The information from the scouting party has been repeated a thousand times. It's on the lips of every player. "As many attack types as possible," mutters one player, as she checks again that she has all eighteen covered. "Let the light in," says another, as he stares down the whirlpool. Two best friends lock eyes and nod, heart-rates rising as swiftly as the Nexus elevator. "The moon is the eater," they say in unison.
00:00:03
00:00:02
00:00:01 The ticking stops.
The sound of a giant lock opening echoes across the sands.
Players at the Sundial Entrance cheer as they slide down the sandy walls of Hibernaculum, entering the World Event with speed and style.
At the Nexus Entrance the working space rings with the chime of an arriving elevator. The doors open wide in a puff of dusty air and players rush to be in the first group to descend into the World Event.
In the sea around the Dragon's Den, the Harbor Entrance forms as the swirling tides reverse. No longer an insta-kill, the massive whirlpool is now a passage down to the World Event- and maybe something more.
Boats surge down the watery walls, and soon players have reached the bottom of the ocean. The flooded entrance to Hibernaculum is dead ahead, and as players swim through the chilled waters they catch glimpses of a sunken submarine nearby. And in the distance, a magnificent [tangent=
đLOCKED: THE DRAGON PALACEđ ]castle[/tangent] of coral and black pearl. A secret dungeon at the bottom of the whirlpool?
But this is no time for distractions.
It's time to take back Ostellia.

[tangent=SUNDIAL ENTRANCE
The Sundial Entrance leads deep below ground, far from the midday sun high overhead. Hibernaculum is a place of sand and shade, where the light of sun rarely follows. Players sliding down the sandy walls reach an abrupt stop in a dry and quiet sandstone cavern.
The wide stone path forward is made thin by colorless Pokemon, their bodies left in piles like over-bleached shirts tossed into a heap. Occasionally they blink or shift, but no strength remains in their bodies. They cannot save themselves. ]SUNDIAL ENTRANCE[/tangent]
| [tangent=HARBOR ENTRANCE
The Harbor Entrance is a flooded mess. Pockets of air float in the salty tunnel, providing breath and respite before players surface in a vast underground pool. The water here feels too thick, like there is a thickener mixed into the liquid. It hangs from your clothes, drying quickly under the heat of the stolen sunlight spheres embedded in the roof of the cavern.
Pale Pokemon fill the edges of the space. Their colors are bleached, sucked dry. They look like unfinished puppets, lifeless and string-less, their limbs trailing in puddles of seawater. The faces here are unfamiliar, not native to any known part of UNOVR .]HARBOR ENTRANCE[/tangent]
| [tangent=NEXUS ENTRANCE
At the Nexus Entrance, the elevator opens onto a stockpile of trash and treasure. The once-stone walls have been transformed into a hive of chewed paper memos, with holes leading deep into the dark. Office supplies and scavenged remnants from the world above form unstable piles of offerings for the ravenous Hearteater. In a world where it is feed or be eaten, it is best to have a well-stock larder.
And beyond the glittering junk-heaps are the bodies, as white and inanimate as the paper walls they are slumped against. They are unfamiliar species, eyes wide and unseeing as their saviors approach. ]NEXUS ENTRANCE[/tangent]

NEXUS ENTRANCE >>>>> ZONE 1 HIBERNACULUM
The time was now. Alicia sucked in a deep breath as she prepared herself for the first world event she was around to jump into. Deep down, she was in an utter panic. This was it. This was the big moment⊠This was where she could really make a difference. Really make her dream of being a hero to someone come true on a large scale. This was no minor scuffle. Nor was it a routine matter like a Colossal Battle. The fate of Ostellia and every Pokemon in it, along with everyone who would follow them once this was done, was hanging in the balance.
She wanted to scream.
As much as she dreamed it, she never expected to get this far this quickly. She honestly thought she would be turned away at the door for being too new. But no. She was here. She proved herself. And it was time to show that that faith was well placed. She would save as many as she could on her wild charge towards the Hearteater. They couldnât waste any time.
âRage, oh heavens.â She whispered softly to herself. âRoil with fury as you wish. Bar the way however you desire. I am coming. And I will not be stopped.â
The elevator âdingedâ, and opened, releasing the gathered players who chose to come in through Midas Corp. Filled with anxious energy and passionate drive, Alicia charged out. And her heart clenched at the sight of all the lifeless Pokemon at the entrance. She recognized many of them. Mankey, Aipom, Ralts, and Skarmory just to name a few. A number of these had served her well in her prior gaming experience, so to see them crippled here was⊠a bit soul crushing.
âTikani, Venex, with me!â the pinkette hero declared as she released the Pokemon she wanted from their Pokeballs. She took the moment to pull her IRONGRASS MINO on, affixing it about her shoulders. She needed Steel more than Grass right now. âListen closely, Iâll direct your attacks! Strike as lightly as you can, we only need the energy of those attacks! Tikani, Vine Whips here, here, and here. Finish with a light Electro Drift! Venex, Venoshock and Fury Attack here! Fury Attack again and Nasty Plot here! Fell Stinger there, and Dragon Pulse in this direction!â
âAlright!â Tikani chimed, running to keep up with Alicia as she whipped her vines around. The Tandemaus once, the Aron thrice, and the Skarmory once with an additional jolt of an Electro Drift to perhaps try and jump start its still body.
âWe! Stand! We! Win! Venex roared out in his broken English. Then he chittered with a frenzied drive in his heart. With Aliciaâs direction, he launched his attacks into the general area of the Aipom, Tandemaus, Bulbasaur, and Skarmory in turn.
Immediately it became obvious that the information was good. Types were being checked off in tool tips at a potentially staggering speed. Aipom and Tandemaus were even fully restored, and seemed to slowly be coming around. But Bulbasaur, Aron, and Skarmory needed more help still. Help that, when Alicia checked the tooltips, she realized she couldnât provide easily. She did have her REDACTED LEDGER but⊠if she was right she was only going to get one use of that. And if Pokemon were needing Corruption attacks to be recolored⊠she feared that one of the mons abducted from the hands of the Players themselves would need it more than these wilds. While she wanted to save them all, she had to prioritize what she could easily do and move on.
She feared that if Hearteater successfully escaped, or worse drove them back out, it wouldnât matter how many Pokemon they restored here. âKeep moving everyone, no time to waste!â

HARBOR ENTRANCE MOVING TO ZONE 1
10
Badum Badump
Orion tightened his grip on his shield, eye flitting side to side to keep an eye on everyone around him. Adze stood a silent vigil at his side, one hand placed on his shoulder, the other sipping a dumbell shaped bottle of pre raid bug juice. Morpheus was nervously shifting his weight from one paw to another.
6
Badump Badump
His gaze flit along his compatriots for their watery assault. Amongst them some familiar faces, Buzzster Hooperham and Bergamot Gristleborg were off to the side, a recipe for some serious chicanery if he'd ever seen it. Kyukon , who'd been a part of the original raid was present but he wasn't...looking well. Whatever he'd experienced, Orion could only imagine it was harrowing, and here he was going back for a second dip into the river styx.
What a trooper.
4
Badump Badump
Aero and Altair were faces he'd seen but he had no strong bond too, something he hoped to change after their dive foot first into whatever shitshow that this was going to be.
2
Badump Badump Badump
His mind raced to his cousin Eddie, who was about to throw himself feet first into the deep end, he'd argued up and down that they should go together, but he was INSISTENT on not following Orion around. To Bee who was seemingly running late, no doubt hung up in some corporate chicanery about the event.
To Blue.
His pace quickened to the point he was sure he was going to have a heart attack, anxiety and adrenaline spiking to an all time high. They would be fine, everything was going to be fine. He would do everything he could to beat ass, so would everyone else. Their powers combined has ALWAYS won the day, but all it took was one raid to change that.
1
He couldn't even assure himself with the mantra "It's just a game anymore" This world had transcended that.
0
"NOW!" Orion barked, planting one foot on the edge of the boat and raising a fist in the air. The nonverbal command resonated with the brosquito who lunged forward mirroring the movement. Man and Mon alike dove headfirst into the drink, rushing into the dark below in a freefall. Adze's comically undersized wings fluttered, their veins suddenly pulsing a slick neon green, and Orion found himself and Morpheus propelled down faster as the large musclemon propelled them down faster and faster.
WHAM.
The Ultra beast landed at the bottom with a crash, knee down in a dramatic superhero pose as it dropped it's passengers.
"You good bud?" Orion asked worriedly. The bug stared at him unblinking before flashing him a thumbs up in one hand and a finger gun in the other. He was still unsure of if the beast KNEW what those meant, but he took it as a sign to start getting to work. All around them were colorless pokemon, limply lingering on the floor, sucked of their very essence.
"Morpheus!" Orion barked, eyes scanning for any oncoming enemies. "Get the Defib going just like we practiced!"
"ON IT!" The psuedo hound barked in reply, dropping into a stance. Gritting his teeth, the creature let out a loud howl, a pulse of static dancing across the chamber. The hue of a nearby Wingulls beak returned, the glow of dynamos little lightning bolt, wattrel's plumage, Chinchou's light, the varnished brass of Dhelmise's wheel, even Piplup had some their luster returned. It wasn't enough to get anyone back on their feet, but it would be enough to get the revival process going. Orion could feel as a bit of that power found its way into him, a free boost while they could to get him on his feet and ready to throw hands with whatever needed hands thrown.
He himself quickly got to work, first he found a ghastly looking Gastly...and channeled the rage he felt at the sight into a dark around around his fist, placing it against the creature and returning the dark hue to its skin. He did his best to be gentle, but he was no support player, these were attacks. The darkness in his hand made manifest by his negative emotions crackled and burned at the creatures skin. Sure it would heal, but it was like when you had a really ROUGH chiropractor, short term pain, long term gain. Next was a Yanmask, given a nice dose of revitalago to return it's inky darkness. He gave Tynamo literal black eyes, more of Watrells feathers were restored. Finally he found himself kneeling over an Oshawatt, one hand gently rubbed the creatures sternum trying to coax it's heart back into beating, the other lifted the creatures chin as he lowered his head and tried to breath a little spirit back into the creature with the softest moongheist beam he could muster, a gentle trickle of soul, like the reverse of a dementors kiss. It was CPR at it's most brutal despite the care he put into it, color returning to the mon like a bruise that left a deep feeling of shame wallowing in his soul.
Maybe he would look into finding a way to spec into support...
His eyes leapt up to the others, seeing how their work was going. He could already feel the strain of his work taking hold, despite the tenderness he'd channeled into ensuring his normally rough moves did no further harm. "GET AS MANY OF THESE GUYS UP AS WE CAN!" he howled. "We have NO idea when we're going to be noticed, and no idea when they're gonna try and stop us! Take advantage of our time! I'm just about tapped on colors I can chuck out so I'm heading deeper in unless anyone needs me to stay!"

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE So. This was it then. He was here. At the entrance to an actual World Event. Signed up, locked in, ready to go...
... in theory.
Nero didn't particularly feel ready. It wasn't that he hadn't had an opportunity to prepare though - he'd been to that party thing, he'd gone through all his upgrades (although unlike others, he hadn't been saving up bytes for this, so he hadn't made many changes in the end), and even acquired a weird egg somehow though that probably wasn't going to be super useful in a raid. At the end of the day though, it was a game, wasn't it? If he was underprepared then he'd lose and oh well that's a shame move on, just like taking on the Elite Four before you were ready in the earlier handheld games.
Except... it didn't really feel like a game here. It felt more like a sports game or something, though admittedly Nero hadn't been to one of those in a long while, not since he'd moved to Italy at least. But the energy around him, the nattering voices, the tension in the air... well it wasn't that different to how one felt personally when taking on a 'final boss'. It was just... magnified by how many people were feeling and sharing those same emotions all together. Nero had never taken part in an MMO style game before UNOVR, partially because this exact environment had felt 'cringey' to him - but no, that wasn't true at all, was it? It had felt exciting to him, and then he'd flinched away from such a concept because that wasn't 'cool'. You weren't supposed to be excited about a video game like this, that was for 'nerds'... But damn, just look at how much fun the 'nerds' were having, and this thing hadn't even started yet! Had Nero ever seen his so called 'cool' friends get this excited about anything? The same 'cool' friends who had abandoned him the moment they realised he wasn't recovering from the accident that they had caused?
So you know what, fuck 'em. At least for today, at least for right now, Nero was just going to enjoy what he wanted to enjoy, and if anyone had a problem with that, they could have a chat with his fist later - a completely empty threat within a video game, but it soothe his mind enough to let him take part, so he'd run with it for now.
Just as his mind settled, the people around him had begun chanting a countdown as the clock on his UI cdropped from ten to zero... and then people were diving into the massive hole where the sundial once was. Nero hesitated, heart pounding in his chest. legs locking briefly before he shook his head and stepped forwards. He didn't quite have the guts to leap into the centre like some of the other players around him, but his feet seemed to connect with the falling sand as he edged forwards, allowing him to surf down the wall towards the base of... whatever the hell this was.
There was so much chatter and energy when he landed that Nero felt immediately lost in the noise, struggling to focus enough to figure out what he was supposed to do. Muting the sound around him for a moment, he turned to survey the environment, peering through the mass of descending players to see... wild Pokemon nearby. But they looked weird, drained of their colour, and they had tags on them listing a large array of seemingly random types... Unmuting the noise again, he tried to listen in to people discussing strategy, gradually picking up what the plan was here around 'restoring' types with moves. Alright, cool, he could do that.
Calling out his Quilava, he strode away from the crowd in search of a Pokemon he could do something against. His muscles were tense, ready for something to leap out at him but... the strange Pokemon didn't seem to be moving? Had someone already gotten to these? But no, they still didn't have their colour...
A strange pale Trapinch lay on the ground nearby, with a tag reading 'fire' three times hanging above it. Okay, great, fire was something Nero could cover no problem, and so he pointed his Quilava in the Pokemon's direction calling for, "Three blasts of Ember," to be used on it. Quill belted out the flames, each one colliding with the unmoving target, and a 'fire' tag disappearing from over its head with each one. The orange from the final Ember seemed to linger on the Pokemon, eventually covering the creature completely and fading into the Trapinch's original colour... and then it disappeared, vanished from the dungeon in front of him
So... success?
Alright, cool, success! He'd contributed something even if he logged out now. That seemed to take a lot of pressure off his shoulders, the tension lifting a little as he looked around for something else he might be able to handle. Quilava probably needed a rest for now, so it was Kabutops' time to join them now, the fossil Pokemon letting out an excited growl as she looked around this bizarre area she found herself in. "There, there's something with a water tag, can you hit that with Aqua Jet?" The pale rock wasn't immediately recognisable to Nero as a Minior, but it was the only thing he could see with a water typing, and he'd seen few other water Pokemon around so far so this was probably a decent way that he could help. "And there, see those three with 'ground' on them? Think you can get them too?" That would clear two whole types from this area from what he could see: surely that would be useful, right?
Tops raced forwards to slam into the unmoving rock first of all, before turning to fire Mud Shots at the , and though no colour reappared on it yet, the 'water' tag did disappear. Progress! Good! "Alright, let's see what else we can find down here."

Post by Aero on Sept 25, 2024 21:34:53 GMT 9
HARBOR ENTRANCE Aero was not in a mood hours before the Hearteater raid. Initially, she was excited to participate in another World Event. The Zapdos raid taught her a lot and wanted to improve her skills before the raid. But there was a catch. Most of her skills were reset due to an update a few months ago and it took her a while to buy every skill she had including upgrading her subclasses. Another problem was her skills in question. Because of her spending and lack of progress due to school in real life, she couldn't afford to buy Escape skills for all of her Pokemon. So right now, she had to deal with this handicap since she didn't have time to earn more Bytes before the raid.
However, the biggest problem that made her moody was Josh. He was one of the players she befriended recently and was also involved in one of the Quests that almost lost her Fuecoco. She wasn't worried about him since he might pop in during the raid in whatever zone he was in. But then, she saw a message from the global chat with Josh's name in it. The warning was so sudden and concerning for her to the point she began to wonder what happened to him lately. She might be a bit paranoid about this, but she sent out a DM to him out of concern for him.
To Josh Devlin: This is Aero. I saw your message, Josh. And let me be the first to say... What the heck happened to you?! Did something happen while I was goofing around?! Please respond. I'm a bit worried... It might take a while for him to respond. So for now, Aero needed to take her mind off of Josh and focus on the raid itself.
As she waited for the raid to start at the boat, Aero just switched from her school uniform getup to her newly improved purple armor inspired by Ceruledge. She wasn't the only one as both her Crocalor and Snom were also outfitted with the same purple armor with blade horns on Coco's head and a single blade on Crystal's forehead and butt. She has no idea what awaits them, so she has to expect the worst and use as many moves as she gets as per Josh's warnings.
So the moment the raid started and the entrance to the castle below them opened, Aero was about to realize how ill-prepared she was the moment she stepped inside.
"W-What the heck happened to them?!"
Aero looked around while standing next to a player named orioncayge. She saw wild Pokemon she had never seen in the VRMMO game before. But for some reason, all of them didn't have any color on their bodies and they looked more like corpses than living Pokemon to her.
She was confused more than ever. "How in the world were they like this?!" She thought. Surely, she might have missed something from all of her goof-offs. Was it because she was too ignorant to learn what was happening in the game's world story so far?
Thankfully, Orion's speech was enough to wake her up from her initial shock. She did recall from Josh's warning that attacking them with matching move colors would revive them. So she needed to act immediately if they wanted to save them. Taking a deep breath, she turned to her Pokemon with flames of determination burning in her eyes. "You heard him, guys. We need to save them with our moves. Use everything you got on them and don't hesitate!"
Her Crocalor and Snom cried in the best-determined tone they had. But then, the former charged its helmet's horns with light green energy and tackled a nearby Dreepy with a cry, much to his trainer's shock. "I said don't hesitate, not go overboard with it!" Aero shouted at her first partner Pokemon before she sighed in dismay. "And I didn't tell you to attack immediately, too..." She then patted her Snom's head. "Don't worry, Crystal you'll get your chance. As for me, I should do the same. Stay with me!"
With Crystal on her shoulder, Aero charged towards the colorless wild Pokemon as her right blade arm transformed into a hand cannon. "Alright, lazy butts! Time to wake up and help us out! Your home is in danger and we can't have you guys snooze around here!" She then aimed her cannon at the Gastly first. "Here's a bit of a purple from my Shadow Ball!" She then fired the said move on the colorless ghost and switched her aim at the Yamask. "Then have a bit of red of your mask from my Flamethrower!" With a stream of flames coming out from her cannon, she enveloped the Yamask's mask with her Fire-type move. "Then a burst of Discharge for the little electric bird..." She turned around and fired a bolt of electricity at the Watrel, causing it to caw in shock. "And...!"
But when she turned to her next target with her cannon, Aero stopped to see it was a Stunfisk just sitting on the seafloor. Seeing she might break the floor at point blank, she quickly switched her cannon to her gloved fist and enveloped it with electricity. "An Electric Punch jolt for the fisk!" The said punch was only a bonk on the Electric/Ground-type's head, but it was enough to create enough electricity to finally restore the yellow part of its body. "That should be enough. Come on, Coco! We can't lag behind the others!"
Her Crocalor cried happily as he ran behind his trainer while she followed the players deep within the castle with Crystal still on her shoulder.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO NEXUS ENTRANCE > MOVING BACK TO HARBOR ENTRANCE Thirty seconds remaining.
Arthur had never been on the other side of the entrance. The Dragon's Den, so it was called, but that was as much as he knew. The trainer didn't make any attempt to hide that one of his hand was red and shifting, parts of it billowing in the sea salt winds as the boat moved closer to their destination. He was thankful for the time, though it did make him look paler than he remembered. There were a few familiar faces, but everyone had similar expressions: excitement, worry, determination.
How fast would his heart be beating if it were still there?
Time slowed, seconds ticking, but it could never stop, and eventually the gates were opened. Boats descended down the whirlpool, with some eager trainers jumping on ahead with their Pokemon. Arthur was no leader, he realized, seeing others already declare their battle cry as they rallied the others to follow. Maybe that would be him someday -- he remembered Sarah Lee , who after searching his memories, realized that they were the one who had stepped in front of him, who sacrificed themselves for the team. He hadn't gotten to thank them yet. Would he be able to?
He took a step forward, out of the boat, into the sea. Cold greeted him in a rush, and because he no longer had the Kindler class, the chill was in full force, making him grit his teeth. Eventually, they would be able to reach the bottom, and Arthur would see the other end that he did not dare explore when he first opened this entrance a lifetime ago.
In his UI, he had the messages from Josh Devlin , Ruby , and Sarah Lee pinned. He hadn't witnessed the initial discovery himself, but as he was not the first to arrive, he was already seeing and hearing other players try out the information scouted by the reconnaissance team. Pokemon, majority he did not recognize, were gaining color little by little - a beak, a fur pattern, an accent, their own eyes. Attacks were flying one after another, and it was easy to get lost in the evolving chaos.
He already saw that some trainer were moving forward after spreading their attacks. As much as Arthur wanted to do the same, he specifically tailored his team to help his Pokemon. If everyone descended, who would be left to help those that remained?
So he took out Buru first. The Granbull emerged from her Poke Ball, landing on the soggy floor with a scowl on her face (as it turned out, that's just her normal face). <So this is where it all begins.>
âBuru, we're here to restore their colors, so whatever attacks you're going to do, do it as gently as you can.â
<You seriously want me to bite one of these ugly things gently?>
Arthur's look was fully serious, if not somewhat exasperated. Buru narrowed her eyes, but then sighed. <Fine! Who first?>
This made the trainer return to his UI as more Pokemon were slowly regaining their color. Pop ups and checkboxes appeared on various tool tips, and he made sure to memorize Buru's moveset so that he could react as quickly as possible. âRight, we'll do this one at a time. Use Charm on those two Pokemon over there.â he pointed at what looked like two water types, lifeless and on the edge of a pool. Buru was about to ask how the hell she was supposed to do that if the Pokemon weren't even conscious to be charmed, but she knew that the question was just going to get thrown back at her, so she ran over to the target Pokemon, looked at them and thought, well, they could use a hug?
So she hugged the two Pokemon gently. She then yelped when they suddenly got their pinkish hues back, which covered most of their body. <It...it worked!> her tiny tail was wiggling in happiness, but she had to put them back where they were since not all of their colors were restored.
âGood job! Next, uhh...â he flicked through the various tooltips, âUse Outrage on that Pokemon and that Pokemon.â he pointed at two different places - one of them looked even paler than other Pokemon, perhaps because it was a ghost? And the other was another water Pokemon, as it looked like a cuter version of an anglerfish.
This time, Buru couldn't hold her tongue. <Pray tell how a lady like me is supposed to use Outrage gently?> but as expected, she got a shrug and a vote of confidence - neither of which were helpful to her current plight. The Granbull let out a sharp huff before calling in a power she had never used before. Outrage but gently, Outrage but gently--when she opened her eyes, they were glowing red, and she ran over to the first target Pokemon before giving them a good ol' slap with her paw. She couldn't resist letting out a howl before running to the next Pokemon and giving that one another slap too, which did topple its body over, but at least it did not send them flying. However, she suddenly felt like everything was red, and she had the urge to jump and pounce and tear and shred--
Arthur quickly returned her to her Poke Ball, forgetting that the move caused confusion after it was used. From the initial charge, he noted that there were plenty of players that came through the harbor, and the tooltips he could hit were decreasing. Thinking that he might be of more help elsewhere, he let out the newly evolved Banko, who was not very appreciative of his hooves being covered in shallow water (though he did like it when it was muddy). <Woah, so this it? Lot more wet than I expected...>
The trainer hoisted himself up on the Mudsdale, though movement here would be limited, especially when the tunnels got narrower. Nonetheless, this would make it faster to cross over to the other entrance, where he already saw in the raid chat that others were talking about the same thing: colorless Pokemon and their plan to bring them back. Without a saddle nor an experienced Pokemon compared to Granmarg, riding Banko was plenty more difficult, and even with such a short trip he felt like he was falling off. Thankfully, though, they managed to make it to the Nexus Entrance, and immediately Arthur felt a pit in his stomach.
Gou...
He shook his head. There were more tooltips; a good number of them grass. He had yet to use this item he got as a reward, but who knew that it would be useful now? He jumped off the Mudsdale and equipped the Irongrass Mino, covering him in a layer of soft silver. âBanko, I need you to Heavy Slam onto those Pokemon--â he pointed at a number of Pokemon around the area, easy enough for a horse of his caliber to reach. â--but do it as gently as you can. We need the attack to bring back their color, so if you can hold back...â
<Hoof! That's a tall order, but I'll do my best!> he let out a neigh and raised his front hooves, covering himself in at first a silvery aura before it shifted into a bright green. He then galloped to his first target, stopping right before it before raising one of his legs and attempting to "pat" the Pokemon. It seemed to work, as the green was then restored in its body, and emboldened by this, Banko continued onto the other targets, giving them head pats and encouraging words. He then returned to his trainer with a big grin. <Why, I do think that was successful!>
Arthur nodded, feeling a rush that this was going very well so far...perhaps too well?
With the combined efforts of all of the players in the Nexus, it looked like there were very few Pokemon left that needed help here. The chat indicated that there were still plenty of help needed back in the Harbor, so he decided to move there next to see what he could still restore.
As much as possible, he didn't want anyone left behind. In a way, because he didn't know most of these Pokemon, he couldn't pass judgment whether it was one he wanted or not (not like he was inclined to any particular one at the moment). That meant that every one of them was an [tangent=a new teammate, perhaps a new friend]opportunity[/tangent], but also a life to bring back.

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE As the countdown approached zero, Mirage fluttered around Josh before stopping at his side. "It's showtime. Get on," the ninja bug ordered as the others braced themselves for the slide down to Hibernaculum. It was a slide Josh was more than familiar with, and one he might suffer some fall damage on due to how steep its slope was.
Josh gulped; he had just moved his Extreme Speed move mod to Mirage after benching Raiden. What would that look like? What would it feel like? He reached for Pazuzu's Poké Ball, ready to instead dive down the slide with his Pidgeotto. Mirage rolled his eyes at his trainer's indecisiveness. "Kid, bus is leaving!" the bug-type snapped. "I'll go in without you!"
"Okay, okay..." Josh shivered, the black insect lowering himself to the sundial's level so he could sit astride the Pokémon. Surprisingly, the feedback from his wings was minimal; as noisy as they got at high speed, he didn't feel like he was sitting on a racing motorcycle at full throttle. If anything, the thrumming was relaxing, making it easier for him to keep his focus. "Let's go."
Holding the Ninjask's reins tightly, Josh pulled downward on them, zipping past Nero in a blur he may not have been able to recognize. What should have taken minutes was over in seconds, the rider already somewhat dizzy from the surreal rate of descent. He wondered how close he was to the sound barrier before pulling up and exhaling.
And this was just Mirage's normal speed. Had he gotten in over his head?
Many of these Pokémon looked familiar; as one of the survivors, Josh had a lot more familiarity with Hibernaculum than almost anyone else present did. Scouting about the DUNES ENTRANCE, there were a plethora of colorless Pokémon present, looking as though they were husks between life and death. "Any sign of Granmarg, Mirage?" he asked his uneasy mount.
"Kid, on task," the Ninjask replied snappily. "We're not worried about him. We're worried about these Pokémon. If Hearteater weaponizes all of them against us, we are [tangent=fucked]{CENSORED}[/tangent]. We need to reduce their numbers now. Without overpowering them."
"And how do you propose we do that?"
The Ninjask's wings roared loudly enough for Nero to likely hear, making Josh's hair stand on end. "Kid, are you that dense?! I can't believe I got stuck ferrying this idiot around..."
Going into his Pokémon menu, Josh viewed his mount's move list and put two and two together. "False Swipe..."
"Holy [tangent=shit]{CENSORED}[/tangent], Josh... and you call yourself a member of the power gamer guild? Sometimes, I wonder about you..."
Collaborating with the other teams on group chat, Josh realized he was the only one that could use both electric attacks and non-elemental attacks. Sending them a message indicating he would clean those types out, he commanded Mirage to get on the offensive. "Mirage, FALSE SWIPE!" Josh cried, letting the Ninjask fly independently and simply holding the reins for stability. The giant bug-type disappeared, light slash marks laced with electrical burns appearing on the colorless Scraggy, Sandshrew, Darumaka, Tepig, and Litten seemingly out of nowhere.
The tooltip hovering above the Gible required a non-elemental attack. Sighing and shivering from both recovering from his mount's extreme motion and the thought of making use of his REDACTED LEDGER, the boy scout opened it to a new page. While he was in the middle of reading it, a creepy voice rang in his mind, speaking to him in Hebrew:
"No longer human... not angel, nor demon, nor Pokémon... he is... my puppet..."
As the Corrupted claw sliced at the Gible's dragon scales, Josh's mind wandered. Was that Hearteater speaking directly to him?

NEXUS ENTRANCE It was go timeâŠ
The count down began, already being teleported to the corresponding location where her fellow players had to wait for the raid to officially start. Pale golden orbs shifted to the bold red text that blinked in the top right corner of her vision, the numbers counting down seemingly slow. Wolf took a deep breath, forcing herself to look away from the timer to see who all she was about to raid with. Two she recognized almost instantly, Torino being the player who explored the dunes with her for that ultra beast and Alicia Westfield who took part of that weird Survival Game knock off someone tried to host. The other players she didnât know, but was quickly drawn to the timer again unable to not watch it while more teleported in.
Taking in a deep breath, the wolf human hybrid tried to keep her cool, calm, and collective look. Her expression emotionless and blank, like she has done this before. However, the parts of her avatar she couldnât control gave away how she really felt. Pointed canine ears pulled back and long fluffy tail sticking straight out, unsure anxiety. Her arms folded over her chest, staring at the large elevator doors that remained close probably until the count down hits zero. In the final seconds, the player tried to focus only on what needed to be done.
The chime of the elevator arriving made her heart skip a beat, doors opening and Wolf rushed forward in an attempt to be in the first part to reach the World Event. Luckily, she was able too as the doors closed to take them to their battle ground. She didnât say anything to anyone nor look at any of the players, purely focused on the doors waiting for them to open up. And when they did, she didnât wait or anyone or anything.
Pale golden orbs widened at the sight of the debris scattered, this being the first time she had been in this area before. Yet, she tried to keep her head in the game. As soon as the tasks popped up in the corner of her vision, the player got to work.
âEasy enough,â she mumbled, mostly to herself. With a simple motion of her hand, two of her pokemon materialized within seconds. A greninja whom already had his battle face one, and a type null whom took in his surroundings only to give a low growl that rattled in his helmet. âLetâs get to work,â the player chimed, spotting the strange looking ALOLAN RATATTA first and pointing to it, âCragen. Thatâs you. NIGHT SLASH and SPIKES.â The water and dark typeâs beady eyes fell upon the defenseless creature, a dark aura encased his hand like appendage and slashed at the creature. And once it registered the dark move, he leaped into the air only to hero pound into the earth. Spikes shot out from underneath the creature, the ground type move effectively giving the creature life again. It was quick to flee, free from whatever sickness it had. âNice. Letâs keep moving.â
The trio pressed on, finally finding a colorless pokemon she could handle. Next up, a little MANKEY needed help. Unfortunately, she couldnât save it fully. âIf someone has rock, this one needs help,â she called out to anyone willing or wanting to hear her, gaze shifted to her Type Null, âYouâre up Ziryan. DOUBLE HIT.â The chimera like creature trotted up to the creature, claw rose to slap it not once but twice across its little face. Wolf tried to stifle the giggle that wanted to escape her, picturing a gif in her mind of a woman b**** slapping another. It was not the time for that.
Keeping, that's all what was on her mind. The PANSAGE they stumbled upon seemed to have been already helped by another, but still needed a little kick. âCragen, SPIKES again.â Much like before, the frog leaped into the air only to hero punch the ground. The spikes curing the pansage enough to allow it to escape this hell it was in.
âAnother over there,â the player called out, the team darting to the RALTS and Wolf giving her orders, âZiryan IMPRISON, then METAL SOUND.â Like a while oiled machine, the Type Null first encased the psychic and fairy type in a psychic barrier. And once trapped, his muzzle parted to emit an ear piercing metal on metal noise that woke the creature from its ill slumber. Itâs eyes shot open, staring of them for what felt like an entirety before fleeing with the rest.
A shout was heard, drawling the team upon an Aron that needed an ice move. âOn it,â she called out in reassurance, pale golden orb flickered to her greninja, âUse HAZE.â Taking in a deep breath, Cragen let out a soft icy breath onto the ARON. The chill of the ice woke the creature almost instantly, fleeing without even giving them a thanks. It didnât matter though, there were plenty more to save and they did need to save some of their energy to they wanted to last this raid.
Spotting one more they could save, the group moved towards a poor little SNIVY. It looked pretty rough, Wolf fighting the urge to break her placid mask. "Another DOUBLE HIT Ziryan, but maybe not as hard." The chimera grumbled, lifting his claw to slap the creature around twice before casting his master an annoyed look. The player shrugged her shoudlers, gaze sweeping the area to see how everyone else was fairing.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > Moving to SUNDIAL ENTRANCE "The secret to being a good swimmer is genetics," Buzzster said proudly. He and Bergamot were in a rickety boat languishing just outside of the whirlpool's pull. "Do you think Michael Phelps was born with those feet? Of course he was! And he's a perfect example of American's new generation of designer babies!"
The stars overhead clicked into place, the whirlpool reversed, and Buzzster kept yapping. "Think about it!" he said, which should be a warning sign familiar to anyone who has ever been stuck talking to a relative at a family gathering, or been cornered by a weird guy at a party. "America was already doing gene editing in the 80s, implanting sheep with glowing hormones and all that stuff. It's just the next natural step to do it on humans so that we can win the Olympics!"
His train of thought was disrupted by the boat tilting wildly to the side as it slid down the inside of the whirlpool. "Whoa! Easy there!" Buzzster said, looking a little uncertain, "this is one hell of a ride. Where are we heading anyway?"
Bergamot, his niece and partner in crime, had dragged him out here with a hundred other players in the middle of the day. Crowded places and broad daylight weren't Buzzster's forte, but she apparently had a good reason. Was this another of her hilarious assassination attempts, like that time she smuggled a bomb through airport security?
They rode the boats down to the bottom of the whirlpool, as if carried down by the wet hand of god. At the bottom they stepped off, and players began swimming through the cold waters towards a tunnel entrance. "Let's follow them!" Buzzster said, as he dove into the wall of water.
Despite not having Swimmer equipped in game or in real life, Buzzster was confident that he would be fine.
He was not.
He flailed through the water, inexpertly scooping at the water and barely moving through the sea. Players passed him left and right, and he wondered what he was doing wrong.
Was it his technique? (Yes)
Was it the fact that he was wearing a full suit and a single shoe? (Also Yes)
Was this some sort of elaborate trap set by Bergamot? (Surprisingly no, but she would probably claim it was)
Despite his impressive lung capacity, Buzzster barely made it halfway to the tunnel before passing out.
Nearby, an automated alert pinged in Bergamot's UI alerting her that her uncle was drowning.

NEXUS ENTRANCE > HARBOR ENTRANCE When he'd been Rook, he had never been part of World Events. He'd never needed to. He had been happy without them [tangent=Moltres, burning black with foul corruption, crashing and setting blaze to Birchwild Grove]because he'd had everything[/tangent] [tangent=The sun, swallowed by the misty pines, never to return from endless winter and the endless Dream]he'd ever wanted[/tangent][tangent=an army charging over the Steppes led by Zapdos, frozen, frostbitten, encased in silver ice]already.[/tangent]
But this time, Dodrio was here.
Though his heart quailed, soul-sore, Respiro stood now at the ready. His first World Event. A rescue mission. To save Dodrio! He shook out his shoulders like a crow's feathers. Ready to move. Ready for action. Ready for run-run-running.
The elevator dinged, and the world said let's start again.
Respiro rode on a sea of bodies, stepping on heads and shoulders and bowed backs, fleeing the crowded elevator into a vision of mossgreen light.
He was stopped, eyes stretching wide, by the piles of pale Pokemon. Their colorless corpses littered the ground like crumpled paper balls, soulless and discarded.
His chat window flooded with messages in English, players coordinating, planning, tactically dividing. Advance team, head for Zone 1! Tanks at the vanguard! Does anyone have a Corrupted move left over from Bunya's experiments? Help needed at the Sundial Entrance!
Quickly, Respiro closed out of it. He had no idea what they were saying.
Instead, he looked for a familiar face, and found one: Alicia Westfield, sending out an array of Pokemon to attack the drained bodies on the ground. What was she doing?!
"!!"
He vaulted over to join her, thinking perhaps to shield one of the poor dead Pokemon from the abuse, but to his astonishment, the color came back into its body like dye settling into a crisp white shirt.
Respiro did a little dance, jubilant. Alicia was so smart! She had figured out how to solve the puzzle!
Now that he was closer, he could see the tooltips prompting for the different Pokemon types. Those must be the moves they had to use! Experimentally, he struck out at a nearby Snivy, and saw the prompt for fighting disappear in the tooltip. He released a swift kick towards the Skarmory Alicia had been working on, and saw red return to its wings. It gasped for air, alive once more.
Nice! IncreĂŻble!
Momentum building, the little fighter flipped over to a colorless Bulbasaur. Aura building around him, he pressed his hand forcefully against the starter's body. To his joy, color returned to its eyes, red as bricklaid streets.
But it was not complete.
With his sharp Rook-eyes he saw something on one of the piles: a book that oozed with familiarity, with flashbacks, with a moment months ago when in the basement of the building he had turned and run away.
It is evil...
It was necessary...
It is Corrupted...
He would only use it once!
Respiro held it in his hands, feeling them grow heavy with the weight of the unknown.

NEXUS ENTRANCE > Zone 1 The rush of players pushed Torino to the side of the elevator, pressing her against one of the dusty wall. "It is rude to push!" she exclaimed, as the room filled up and someone hit the button to close the doors. She spotted Wolf and Alicia Westfield on the other side of the elevator, and Respiro standing on someone's head. She waved to them as best as she could in the cramped quarters.
The energy in the elevator was a mixture of excited and deeply uncomfortable, as little pockets of players whispered together before lapsing into an awkward silence.
Torino decided to make small talk. "Hello!" she said, to the player next to her. "Are you excited for the big battle!" she beamed at him, the prelude to a pre-raid meet-cute. The player tried not to look at her, uncomfortable with the amount of noise she was making and attention she was attracting.
"I am sure that I can get my Pokemon back," Torino said bravely, her demeanor shifting from sunny to steely. "Did the monsters take your friends too?"
"Oh. Uh, yes. My Charmeleon."
Torino looked heartbroken. "I will help you!" she proclaimed loudly. "Together we will save your Pokemon."
The elevator arrived at its destination with a chime. Players poured out of the doors, and Torino's new friend muttered a quick thanks and ran into the cavern ahead. Saved by the bell.
Torino followed the swarm of players, her eyes wide at the wondrous piles of strange office supplies and pale Pokemon. She rushed over to a group of Grass and Bug Pokemon. Their outsides should have been a beautiful, lustrous green like new Spring leaves, but instead they were the pail of blades spray-painted for lines on a football field.
"Oh no! This is terrible!" She had received the Global Message from Ruby, and people had been talking about colorless Pokemon on the trip down. But still, seeing it was such a shock!
"Passero, heal them! Put the color back in."
Passero, her Doduo, picked two long irongrass stalks out of Torino's hat. Holding them in his beaks like needles, he administered Accupressure on the nearest Pokemon: Budew, Tarountula, and Skiddo.
As the needles gently stimulated their muscles back to wakefulness, a pleasant shades of green bloomed along their bodies.
"Ah! Wonderful Passero!" Torino said, hugging the Pokemon's two heads together.
But Skiddo was not fully recolored. Its grassy ruff was lush, but its body remained pale. Torino sent out Ciambella, her Donphan. "Ciambella, we need to put color back in this Skiddo. We need," she checked the tooltips above the Pokemon, "Rock and Fighting!"
Ciambella nodded, and rolled forward to gently bump the goat. The light impact spread brown through the creature's body. Ciambella did a brief Rapid Spin, as if the motion could wipe away the sickly pale. Instead it seemed to apply a new coat of paint, the Never Normal Fighting filling in the last color on the creature. Torino clapped. "Yay! Wonderful!" She was on a roll. "Who is next?"
Nearby was a collapsed Makey, its pale body slumped in a broken computer chair. There was no Green to be gained from Accupressure, so Torino used Donphan's Rollout. A gentle bonk set the chair wobbling, and color flooded back into the little Pokemon's feet. Beside it was another monkey: Grookey. This one was missing Grass, and Passero restored it with another application of Accupressure.
Last was Bulbasur, who was already recolored with Grass but there were patches of green that stayed uncolored. Torino frowned. She checked the tooltip.
"Question type? Oh! That is the one from the book!" She pulled out her ledger and pressed it against the little creature. Off-green ink dripped from the pages as Torino read snippets. Donphan repeated the words, and the missing color flowed into Bulbasaur.
More of the redaction had slipped from the pages. Torino would have to peruse it later.

NEXUS ENTRANCE > ZONE 1 War council meetings were too boring. This was something heâd learned the hard way back on the European server; since the guild he used to lead were basically âmercenaries for hireâ; they provided additional services to all the Sweeper-heavy oriented Italian guilds, andâŠ
Okay, Alkaid, thatâs enough reminiscing about the goddamned fucking past. This is the North American server, things are different, and while the feeling of having the equivalent of Ironsmith is still lacking (you did miss wielding a weapon) fact of the matter was the chattering noise all around was getting to be a little too muchâŠ
Shit, maybe some actual noise-cancelling headphones would come in handy now! The noise made it so difficult to think. He would let most everyone pressing towards the elevator go first to go down to the Nexusâhe would follow on a later trip, seeing as overloaded elevators were still a thing and they might crash out andâ
âFocus, bastard,â he would hiss to himself; slapping his cheeks in a âsnap the fuck out of itâ gesture. Once the elevator had returned and far less people were going inside, he would join the next trip down.
What greeted him the moment the elevator went off with the precursory âding!â noise was utter chaos. There were colorlessâno, they were definitely not dead PokĂ©mon; if he was remembering the messages and information that had come from the advance party.
No wonder they wanted Sweepers! he thought as he realizedâhe had exactly one companion that could hit as many âcolorsâ needed.
Scrolling through his inventory first, he would then pop out the tiny little âmurder paperâ from a flash of red light who would then start spinning in mid-air due to the wash of noise overwhelming everything before he held up a finger and gesturing for them to wait. Having realized the trick to the Kartana was body language and gesturesâhe shouldâve seen that coming a mile away.
[tangent=âGive me a minute,â]âDammi un minuto,â[/tangent] he would mutter softly, before popping out the Crash Helmet and then watching as itâwow, the item had âdynamic sizingâ on it? Convenient.
(Because the mental image of a tiny little murder paper wearing such a ridiculously-sized helmet would be one for the ages.)
Once the Kartana was wearing the Kartana-sized helmet, he was about to start drawling out commands when he realizedâhe had an accessory on, that strange fluttering cape, and it might mess with what he had in mind! He would quickly take the Irongrass Mino cape off just for this instance, before pointing at certain bleached, colorless PokĂ©mon.
[tangent=âAlright. Theyâre already downed, no need to incapacitate further,â]âBene. Sono giĂ abbattuti, non c'Ăš bisogno di renderli ulteriormente inabili,â[/tangent] he breathed out before concentrating. Shit, he really had to go the full ten yards for this, huh?
[tangent=âFury Cutter to the Budew,â]âTagliofuria al Budew,â[/tangent] he began, and then adding as an afterthought, [tangent=âBe gentle!â]âSiate gentili!â[/tangent]
(That may have sounded so wrong on so many levels.)
Once that was done, he would continue moving along, Kartana spinning beside him wearing that ridiculously cute tiny little helmet on its paper head.
[tangent=âVacuum Wave on the Grubbin,â]âVuotonda sul Grubbin,â[/tangent] he continued; with the same withering glare because the Kartana really wanted to cut a bitch apart; before moving on to the next PokĂ©mon they sawâ
He felt his insides go cold; because it was a Grookey.
(And he still didnât have his back, yet. What kind of a person was he, even?!)
[tangent=âVacuum Wave on the monkeyâI mean, on the Grookey,â]âVuotonda sulla scimmia, intendo, sul Grookey,â[/tangent] he went on; his throat going paper-dry at that mention. Once theyâd left the simian behind, there was one last one they could add some âcolorâ back to; and while admittedly this colorless body looked like it was just a ball of yarn⊠was this a PokĂ©mon?
(In his defense, he had not yet touched Generation Nine, due to so many real-life things keeping him away from gaming as much as he wanted to.)
[tangent=âFalse Swipe, yes, you heard me rightâFalse Swipe on the tarantula,â]"Falsofinale, sĂŹ, hai sentito bene: Falsofinale sulla tarantola",[/tangent] he would point at the Tarontula (he didnât know the name of this one, so apologies in advance!) [tangent=ââŠand then another Vacuum Wave.â]ââŠe poi un'altra Vuotonda.â[/tangent]
Once that was all done, he would turn to face the spinning little âmurder paperâ.
[tangent=âThank you for not using them as a practice target,â]âGrazie per non averli usati come bersaglio di pratica,â[/tangent] he breathed out quietly.
That⊠that admittedly took a lot more brain power than he would secretly admit.

HARBOR ENTRANCE He was sorely tempted to jump into the swirling water; since that was where he thrived bestâhey, being part of the universityâs swim team really did things to oneâs mind when they were innately an actual swimmer and not just the in-game class for fun!
It was a good thing heâd already completed his weekly roulette duties in Eorzea; this was so that he could devote enough time for this âworld eventâ. It was similar to a big patch drop on FFXIV, only in real time instead of in story format, so there was the part of having enough time to see this entire thing through!
(Honestly, weekly roulettes did take forever in Eorzea especially when it was at inopportune times of the dayâŠ)
He was in one of the boats at the Drowned Harbor, and he thought he noticed another white-haired⊠wait. Wait a second, hold up.
Why did he feel an unnatural prickle course through him as he caught sight of Kyukon ? Was there⊠was there something that had changed about them? He couldnât be too sure.
However, time had finally ticked to zero; and so he would brace himselfâgetting ready to jump out of the boat, but thenâwas that⊠what was that location?
For some reason, he thought he felt something roaring deep inside him. He would shove the thought down; but of course he would be drawn to that location. Maybe they could come back to it later, after this was all done.
He would see the sight of scattered âcolorlessâ PokĂ©mon, and for once, for bloody goddamned once he was thankful that Hanzo had evolved early. Sure, it meant missing out on Froakie and Frogadier interactions; but fact of the matter was that Greninja brought so much versatility to the table it was worth it.
âHanzo, letâs go,â he would mutter quietly as the amphibian PokĂ©mon would join him; trailing behind and seeing that there were other PokĂ©mon that had not yet regained their full âcolorsâ.
âOkay, can you hit that⊠why does that one sort of look like the Shellos I have?â
âBeats me,â the frog would croak quietly.
âOkay⊠so, can you hit that with⊠no, we canât hit something thatâs already down. I know itâll make no sense, but you have to trust me on this.â
âWe did get the information, after all.â
âAlright. Strike this one with Role Play first, please,â he would gesture to the similar-looking Shellos⊠only colorless rather than blue.
âOn it.â
Quietly they would move through the crowd; and when they got to the next Pokémon that looked like some kind of a monkey, he had to take a stop and stare.
âWhat?â
âNothing. Can you sprinkle some water and dirt around it?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âNon-lethal Water Gun, and⊠I canât believe Iâm going to say this, but⊠Spikes.â
âWhat? Are you serious?â
âYep.â
âWell, if it works, then Iâm not complaining,â the Greninja huffed before planting the two attacks on the strange simian. Their next target would be a⊠aww, was that a jellyfish?
âCuteâŠâ he hummed, before the Greninja shook his head.
âHanzo, what?â
âNothing.â
âAlright, can youâoh! Aerial Ace, and Extrasensory this time.â
âWhat. You make me use Role Play on the first one, but have me use another attack on this one?â
âVariety is the spice of life, as they say,â he would cackle; though there was a grin on his face.
âAs you wish.â
The amphibious Pokémon would then lightly smack the strange jellyfish with the last two attacks.
âAlright. Letâs keep up with the pack, see what theyâre going to do next.â
The Greninja would nod at that statement.

NEXUS ENTRANCE As the elevator descended to Hibernaculum, the elevator music within cut out for Shalin, replaced with a single foreboding tone and a robotic voice:
"You are... now entering completely darkness..."
Shalin's eyes opened wide as the sound byte played alongside a heartbeat added to the mix, giving Olivia a hug. The Ultra Beast, freshly cleaned and her seat vacant, silently stretched her wings during the long elevator ride.
"Don't need to... prepare for it... yOu jUsT nEeD tO diEEEEEEEEE..."
Okay, this was beyond creepy now. Shalin was expecting a cavern adventure with standard fantasy danger, not fridge horror. She shivered next to Altair and Aero , making no effort to hide her fear.
"Welcome, as your experience... Searching for your sOoOoOoOoOuls..."
"Altair, let's try to stick together..." was all she could manage before the elevator began to slow down.
"We are..."
The doors began to squeak open, a sign that they hadn't been oiled since the Pokémon League fell. Beyond was an entire hill of memos, office supplies, long-dysfunctional computers, monitors, chairs, and the like.
"...PLAYING TO DIE"
As the cutscene introducing the HIBERNACULUM played, an in-your-face, INDUSTRIAL beat flooded Shalin's ears. The Pokémon within, many of which went unrecognized due to their colorless scheme, blended in against the walls covered from floor to ceiling in paper. Though she has stopped shivering, those who were good at reading body language could tell she wanted to get in, rescue Sarah Lee and the Pokémon, and get out. "Olivia, if you would crouch, please?"
After a tap on the shoulder with her proboscis, the Buzzwole lowered her wing for Shalin to sit on, the backpack saddle surrounding the muscular Pokémon vanishing in a pixelated mess. The resolution of her model decreased as Olivia's wings silently fluttered, cheering her up from the rush of extreme motion her mastered BETA TESTER class helped her endure. "Whee-hee! Thanks, I needed that. Now, let's head down."
Relaxing and straightening her wings so Shalin could sit at a proper angle, Olivia spotted the Pokémon. Remembering Josh Devlin 's and Ruby 's final messages before leaving their scouting mission, Shalin knew what she had to do. Thankfully for her, her mastered BETA TESTER class revealed tooltips showing what Pokémon needed what attack types. It seemed there was more to the class than simply performing physics-breaking feats; it was as though there was an entire developer mode enabled at her level.
Putting that knowledge and those of her advance party to use. the duo began to track down Pokémon that could have their colors restored through the use of Bug-type and Fighting-type moves. She would wind up next to Wolf , whose Type: Null charged up a DOUBLE HIT at the same time Olivia's dragonfire-coated MEGA PUNCH connected with the colorless Snivy. Looking at the raid chat logs, Shalin saw she had claimed she would be working on restoring the grass-type first. The disgruntled girl turned toward her guildmate as her alien mount socked the wild with a single POWER-UP PUNCH.
Sighing deeply enough for him to hear her, Shalin and her Buzzwole took off further down the paper-filled hallway, keeping their eyes out for the Pokémon they could restore color to. Having World Event chat open on a third of her UI made it difficult to see, but it was important having the sheet open so she didn't end up eating her words.
With not too much effort, she caught up with Alicia Westfield , who had taken care of much of the work needed to free the metal menace. "Hey, Alicia! I got this one," she waved as Olivia lurched backward, winding up for a POWER-UP PUNCH that may have made the bird screech if it could. After waiting out the move's cooldown, she would repeat the attack for the colorless Bulbasaur. "I'm planning on freeing as many of the Pokémon as I can before heading deeper. I'll likely be one of the last ones to head down to Hearteater. See you in a bit!"
With a buzz that left her upper body looking like a model rendered by a Nintendo 64 and her lower body an even more pixelated mess, Shalin and Olivia left Alicia on her own before heading deeper into the tunnels, the alien insect stopping next to Alkaid . She had no doubt that he would criticize her choice of mount -- especially one that could turn on them at any moment. "I'm... definitely taking a trip to the Arena Shop when this is over and getting myself a nice treat of some kind," the girl sighed, feeling bad for the helpless Grookey her red insect was about to sting. "FELL STINGER, Olivia! Use just enough force to pierce the Grookey's skin! No more!" Her compound eyes blinking, the Buzzwole crouched, a disgusting-looking stinger poking out of the creature's lower back -- right where her seat was normally located at. She had learned something valuable about the Ultra Beast; Fell Stinger was an unusable attack while she was mounted!
