SUNDIAL ENTRANCE MOVING TO ZONE ONE Chatter filled the air as everyone waited for the raid to begin in earnest, the open maw dripping sand down over and over again down below like a void that wanted to swallow the world, and all that remained within. She was quiet, listening to the sound of her own heart beat.
Thump.
Word spread across the crowd that had gathered, players readying themselves for the confrontation. Some talking about preparing every attack type they could, others prepared to destroy the Hearteater with everything they could. To let the light in.
Thump. Thump.
The time was swiftly dropping, and sooner or later they'd all be allowed to drop down into the bottom of the tunnels, and the whole of the NA server would be fighting to protect their world. To find a future free of unneeded bloodshed, to free all those under the control over another, to return the light.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Her Celesteela stood tall amidst the crowd of trainers that had gathered, towering over everyone that didn't also have one of their own. The massive titan's eyes were locked down into the tunnels, unmoving, uncompromising. The trainer stood atop them, right at the base of their elongated neck, looking down into the pit. Ruby had yet to understand if they knew the task ahead, but judging by their patient waiting, it seemed they were prepared.
She could only hope it was enough.
There was no longer denying how terrified she was, the fear had gripped her heart for certain. During the Noonlight Raid, she ran in fear before it could even begin. In the Precipice Crown, she had no choice but to fight to survive. But now? Now she was here, of her own will, no tricks, no misunderstandings, nothing else but her own genuine desire to make things right.
To save them all.
"Solgaleo," Ruby whispered to herself, since then learning the name from another Trainer. "Sarah, I'm coming for you. I hope, you know that."
00:01:02
A soft sigh, eyes closed. Another heartbeat, another bout of panic.
Sparkling jewels of frozen ice spun around her head, the Crown Jewels. The Queen's Crown, her Crown. All that remained of the Princess's fearsome control, ironic that it was now worn by a monarch to purge another controlling monster.
"I, am Queen Rubella of the Dream World" Eyes began to glow a shimmering blue, hair stretching backwards into long purple feathers.
00:00:45
"It is hereby declared that you, Hearteater, are in violation of dozens of royal decrees about kindness, creativity, imagination, and freedom." Legs twisted, bending backwards as large powerful talons replaced running shoes. A flowing ribbon of feathers sprouted from their back like a tail.
00:00:30
"Your subjects shall be freed from your vile control, to live the lives they choose to have." Wings replaced arms, large and graceful, but never flapping once as they lowered them towards the opening, the Celesteela shifting forwards, following suit.
00:00:15
"You shall be made known to hundreds of Dreamers, many whom desire to defend this world, and the next, with every dying breath. For as long as you live, may you never forget such pain you have caused, and forever seek to amend. For as long as you have." Their form twisted further and further, until a glorious bird of legend floated just on the edge of the hole. At first, changing shape had seem scary, intimidating, a fear of losing her sense of self.
But now, she saw it as just a tool like any other. A very powerful one, to help her Pokemon and everyone else directly. To lead from the front. To never cower again.
00:00:03
00:00:02
"Please, save them all!" Her beak cried out as loud as she can.
00:00:01
Ruby and her Pokemon join the others, sliding down into the familiar, yet terrifying entrance. The colorless Pokemon awaiting them, just as before. Their nearly lifeless bodies struggling, barely holding onto life. Who knows how long they had been like this? Sat in a comatose state, forced to suffer?
No longer.
Ruby spread out her wings, an unearthly cry spilling forth as she summoned power that she had never known how to harness before, but now it was instinctual. Pulling forth this primal, Pokemon power that had been locked deep within, until now.
"Reflect!" Light would pour forth from her eyes, suddenly spilling across the Celesteela's body as it floated downwards into the cave, rocket thrusters carrying it down slowly. A rainbow shimmer would spread across their entire form and light cascaded across them, bouncing across the cave like a prism splitting wavelengths of light.
The Celesteela moved slowly, but with purpose. It's eyes never seen, but its mouth was wide with a grin. As if it knew something nobody else did. Perhaps its smile meant something else to a being who comprehended emotions differently, but its smile shined with that shimmering light regardless.
Powerful beams of light poured from their rocket arms, twin Flash Cannons washing across the Elgyem and Varoom. These bright lights stitching together old wounds, restoring color to flesh.
Old, dead roots were ripped up from the ground and restored to life with Ingrain, wrapping around both the Minior and Cacnea both, blessing them with nutrients that would have otherwise gone to waste.
A psychic light washed over the Minior, still unfinished, blessed by Ruby's Dreamer abilities to Harden the shell of the Minior, that it might once more have a chance to survive.
From there, a series of orange, hexagonal hexes would spread out across the immobile Golett in a Wide Guard, sealing old wounds and protecting it from forces beyond.
Satisfied, and genuinely proud of the Celesteela who was still shining like a disco ball, Ruby motioned with her wings to progress further down into the dungeon. They had Sarah to find, and she couldn't be too far away. She could only hope and pray, that they were safe.
Perhaps that Crucifix had something holy about it, after all.

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE MOVING TO HARBOR ENTRANCE Morpheus sighed in dismay. He hoped he could miss the World Event to watch the grand finals of Bravery tournament with his friends in person. Alas, Mother Nature has other ideas and now, the finale of the tournament will have to wait until next week. Thankfully, his friends were still available at that time, but he had nothing to do now since he already finished his project and thesis for this week. So not wanting to face boredom, he might as well log into UNOVR and see what the raid has to offer.
And thank god, Mother Nature interfered with his plans. It seemed like this World Event needed his help more than ever.
The moment he stepped inside the dunes, he was horrified to see several colorless Pokemon lying on the ground as if they were corpses. He wasn't updated on the lore of this season, yet he could tell something must have happened considering the strange messages left on the global chat he saw before the raid started. This made him relieved that the Pokemon he had chosen for this raid was the right group to help. But back at the situation at hand, Morpheus looked around as his Flapple, Glaceon, and Snubbull joined him in concern.
<<How terrible...>> Yukina muttered. <<Who in the world has done this to all of these Pokemon?>>
Morpheus's Snubbull growled in frustration. <<I don't know. But they will pay for turning all of them into puppets!>>
"I understand your frustrations, Genki. But I doubt we have time for that." Morpheus hummed in thought. "According to the global chat, we have to use your moves to restore their colors. So it's not a lost cause for them yet."
<<Any ideas how, though?>> Malum asked. <<The other trainers and their Pokemon are helping us, but even I don't know where to start.>>
"We could start by checking other zones to see if they're in the same situation as us. Malum, can you help us get to the next zone?"
<<I can try.>>
Morpheus recalled all of his Pokemon except his Flapple and let him grab his wrist and flew him off from the Dunes. It took a while for them to arrive due to Malum's size, but they arrived at the castle where he saw all of the players attacking and healing wild Pokemon that regained their colors. He could recognize some players from the last raid including ones that participated in the last Dungeon he was in. Which made him wonder how in the world managed to go around with their embarrassing new names. "Looks like everything is going well for them so far. But you guys better prepare yourselves. There are no signs of any wild Pokemon attacking us so far. So I have a bad feeling about this."
It might be a bit of paranoia settling in due to his experience in pub games in Bravery. But Morpheus knew something would come out and ambush the players while they were busy healing the colorless. Just in case, he sent a simple message in the global chat.
Don't let your guard down. We might have some company very soon.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > SUNDIAL ENTRANCE "I thought you were supposed to be the next Houdini," Bergamot huffed as she hauled Buzzster Hooperham out of the water at the Harbor Entrance. She'd emerged perfectly dry and unharmed from the descent down the whirlpool, past the Dragon Palace dungeon, and into the secret tunnels. It had been easy— nay!— enjoyable!
She wasn't sure why she'd assumed Zac would be in the same boat, apart from him literally being in the same boat while they'd been waiting for the raid to start. Honestly, Bergamot had been a Swimmer so long she'd forgotten everyone couldn't breathe underwater.
"Ugh! There's nothing left to do," Bergamot said, putting her hands on her hips as she looked around the Harbor Entrance. It had taken so long to drag her unconscious uncle out of the water that half the colorless Pokemon in the cavern were already restored and swimming free. Double ugh!! "How boring. Come on, Buzzster, let's go see what's in the other zones."
Ever since they'd sold their usernames to Chanda Mama for matching golden tongues, it had become harder and harder to think of her actual uncle by his actual name.
Bergamot checked her minimap and saw a blinking group of other player icons was right on the other side of the tunnel wall. "Oho! What if I just..."
She stopped to make a smug face before leaning against the stone, then simply—
—falling through it.
"Ohohohoho!" The players at the Sundial Entrance would hear the villainess chortle as she suddenly phased through the side of the chamber and into a pile of sand and colorless Pokemon. "Ick! Disgusting. Uncle, you shall love this." She did a double-take as she saw Galarian Articuno, marked with a player icon that read Ruby. "Oh my."
But Bergamot had little time to gawk, lest these other n00bs steal her glory. She sent out Krony 2012 the shiny male Salandit. "Go, Krony 2012 the shiny male Salandit!"
Krony appeared, shiny tongue flickering nervously around his masculine jaws. Bergamot also sent out Jack, who was a Mudkip.
"You two do something, I'm going back for Buzzster," Bergamot ordered vaguely, waving her hand at her Pokemon and walking back through the wall. It was fun to be incorporeal, but that ability unfortunately didn't extend to everyone else.
Krony and Jack looked at each other.
<Ssssssss...> said Krony.
<Peep peep!> said Jack.
They set to work. Clouds of healing poison wafted over the piled bodies as Krony attempted to summon his two brain cells with Nasty Plot. Jack smashed rocks, sending fragments flying everywhere and thonking into motionless, colorless Pokemon. Last, the Mudkip let out a mighty PEEP that resonated magnificently through the echo-chamber.
Somehow, the clumsy combinations of attacks worked. A Darumaka and Sandshrew sat up and looked around in wonder. They saw a Litten jump to its feet. They saw a Tepig sprint off, squealing. And they did finally see Bergamot drag Buzzster Hooperham in through the normal entrance, huffing and puffing before dumping the unconscious redhead in the sand.
"Well, I'm not doing that again," Bergamot said, dusting off her hands. She did a double-take as she saw her own Pokemon. "Why do you both look so dizzy? Heal yourselves up, please." Jack obediently peep-peeped and summoned a healing shield of water around himself and Krony, though the fire-type didn't look quite as rejuvenated.
Bergamot propped Zac up against one of the walls. "Don't worry, uncle, you'll be perfectly safe here when I leave you behind for greater glory and riches deeper inside." She patted him comfortingly on the cheek, then checked inside his suitcoat pocket for any spare BYTES.

#s://imgur~com/RTpA96j~png SUNDIAL ENTRANCE Lucille found herself standing at the top of one of the many sand dunes stretching across the desert landscape, her laced up combat boots sinking into the many, many, maaaaany microscopic granules under her weight. She didn't like sand, considering it got everywhere, into every crevice imaginable and then some. Not to mention once you found it somewhere it took half a year to get rid of the stuff. Out of pockets, out of hair. It was just a nuisance. Pale blue eyes flickered to the timer at the edge of her UI, it had been counting down for some time now, notifications were sent out for some new World Event. It intrigued Lucille enough to log-in despite how hectic things had been for her lately. Even today when she was packing a small suitcase to take a trip within the next few days. She was looking forward to it. An expensive trip across country to a concert that she had been looking forward to for months. Having gotten tickets for her cousin's birthday. They were close, though they only ever saw each other at the Weekends usually.
She idly watched the timer count down, she breathed slowly. Calming the building feeling that bubbled in the pit of her stomach, whether it was nerves or excitement, she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Her eyes settled upon the tall, nonchalant form of her ever present companion, a ghostly presence if she could call him one. Purple flames ever dancing around the neck of the Hisuian form of Typhlosion as he scuttled through the sand below towards her. Half-lidded crimson orbs peering back at her before reaching to adjust his trainer's jet black colored pilot's jacket. He couldn't have her looking like a mess when it came time for... whatever event this was to begin. From what Lucille had explained, there was something that had abducted a bunch of Pokemon, some strange entity. The details weren't entirely there since Lucille had likely left out the odd detail here and there. But the gist of it was there. They had to save them, somehow. In groups and three separate areas. There had been some trainers in the group that had brought out towering beasts that took many shapes and sizes, almost alien in nature among their other Pokemon partners. Lucille stood and stared with eyes as wide as dish plates, watching them take off in various directions or moving to other areas with their three-pokemon event teams.
Once Aymr was satisfied, he stepped back with a curt nod ❝<Ready to go?>❞ He asked before lowering himself down on all fours. The alabaster-haired woman eyed the timer once more, two seconds... one... Zero. Without hesitation, Lucille lunged forwards and sped down the side of the dune, or well, at least that was what she had hoped for. Instead, she was taking a few steps and almost tripping over her feet as they sank into the sand below, her attempts to get some momentum thawted with how course the sand was. Eventually Lucille was just sent bowling forwards, head over heels and tumbling down them, until she was laying on her back at the bottom of it, sitting up while spitting whatever sand had entered her mouth out and rubbing her face and shaking her head to free any of the debris from her white locks before pushing herself up from the floor and brushing off her clothes, shaking them out and tilting her disheveled head to look up at Aymr who was still stood at the top, covering his mouth and hiding his snickers behind his paw-hands before he burst out entirely in cackles ❝<Pfffftt! Hahaha, what was that?! I have never seen someone move with such difficulty in my entire life! You have to be the most inelegant trainer here, surely.>❞
Once his laughter had died down and his sides weren't killing him, he pranced down the sands with practiced and natural ease, a shit-eating grin on his mug as he reached the bottom without even a shred of worry. Lucille narrowed her eyes at him, folding her arms across her chest ❝Well excuse me for not living in a desert or being a Pokémon. It doesn't come as naturally to me as it does you.❞ She muttered, a lilt of annoyance in her tone. Motioning for her fiery partner to follow her. Within a few miles, the two were surrounded by the frozen grey forms of what seemed like wild Pokémon, hoards of them, all devoid of their warmth, life and color. Lucille could have sworn one she couldn't quite recognize had been following her with its eyes as she moved... she was probably imagining it, right? She shook her head of such thoughts. She had to focus on something other than the feeling of many eyes boring into her.
Swallowing thickly, her mind and heartbeat racing in her ribs before Aymr's voice broke through the eerie silence, causing the woman to let out a slight yelp as she jumped before registering that he was asking how exactly they could help the frozen statues around them. The tall woman pondered for what felt like a minute or two ❝There was something about... color? Restoring it to them. I think... by hitting them with certain move types.❞ Lucille wasn't entirely sure herself, her face scrunching up as she tried to rack her brain for any possible clues. Her eyes scanning over several of the paralyzed husks, some of them seem to be close. A faint slither of color shining through the cracks, others were still entirely void of any spectrum of non-monotone colors.
The kindler pointed her finger towards one of them, her UI flashing with move types that still hadn't been entirely successful yet before flicking over towards Aymr and displaying his entire pool of available moves. ❝Lets see... Try Ember on that uhhh monkey looking pokemon over there, Infernal Parade on that... floaty rock looking thing then Flame Wheel on the sassy looking... pants lizard?❞ She paused, visibly cringing at her lack of knowledge on some of the wild specimens. She would seriously have to consult some kind of virtual pokedex in her free time to try and at least learn. Making a mental note of it before she continued, finally settling on an all too familiar tiny land shark ❝And then the same again on that Gible over there.❞
With a nod of his head, Aymr stepped forth, the flames around the back of his neck crackling to life and burning higher, rising from his quadrapedal position to stand on all fours, his paw-hands waving this way and that in elegant motions as if guiding the very stars themselves, blue shimmering energy forming between them as he moved them closer towards his own chest and clapped them together, a group of energy flares coming into existance as he pulled his paws away from each other, slowly rising into the air above his head before he pointed his paws at the intended target. The group of blinding flames swirling towards the fire-monkey. He then readied his next attack, sending swirling blue fireballs at the Minior before enveloping himself in flames and charging into the other two statues. Lucille wasted no time in tossing out her Dragapults Pokeball and sending out orders to use a dragon move on the Gible after Aymr was done with his own move.
Once Byleth was done pelting the poor static-still shark with dreepy-shaped missiles, she let out a yawn and bob-floated her way over towards her trainer, resting her large angular shaped head against the crown of Lucille's white hair, a delighted chitter leaving the oversized dragon while she made herself comfortable ❝Hello to you too, Byleth.❞ The kindler greeted, her voice softening somewhat as she slowly let herself relax and not be so stiff with her nerves about what things the event could hold for them all. If Thunderfall had taught her anything, it was to expect the unexpected and to try and not push her Pokémon to breaking points. She had learned that the hard way.

HARBOR ENTRANCE MOVING TO ZONE ONE Sheldon. The first Pokemon Laguna had ever caught, having a battle right there on the Beta Coastline. The Squirtle stood by her side, valiantly doing his hardest, ready to do fight against a glitching deity of the ocean. Always arguing with, but secretly best friends with-
Hoppy. The Froakie loved his log, taking naps inside of it. The brain to Sheldon's brawn, keeping them both in check. He also stood at her side, keeping her heart in check when Groudon's shrine required a sacrifice-
Glacia.
Oh, Glacia.
Glacia was the first Pokemon Laguna had ever hatched. Her baby, with so much excited energy who loved to skate, who adored cuddling after a long day of hard work. The Pokemon she had dived into the Everworld twice to recover, fighting against the claws of fate to restore them. The Pokemon that had changed, grown-
Became a selfless hero.
And now, she was gone. Again. They were all gone.
She stood atop the roof of an old, small yacht which had been tied around the back of her Onix. The shimmering Pokemon's stones gleamed like an ice sculpture, water rushing off their body as they pushed forth, and a small little ferret-like rock Poke-Pet rode atop their head, squeaking softly. Roxxanne, she had been loyally at her side since before Briarbane even founded its roots, and she could never be more thankful for their company.
There was little others that she trusted so implicitly to protect herself, and others.
Standing next to her, stood an impeccable business man, leaning forwards as he gripped onto one of the ropes with his gloved hands. His pressed black suit made him a distinct sight amidst all the other Pokemon, not to mention the suitcase carefully being held in their other hand. Mr. Business had been with her for such a short time, but he has been nothing if not the most reasonable fellow.
Laguna trusted him to help restore the colors of the Pokemon, and to keep herself in check, in case her emotions overwhelmed her.
Meanwhile, Laguna herself had never been more prepared for combat. Cool Jorts, comfortable and chill, activated right away, spreading the frigid winds and coating all nearby within ice. Wand of the Winds already twirling in her hands, the frigid air swirling around her like the center of a small storm, carrying her Rainbow Flame Cloak upwards as shiny, gleaming feathers bounced all the colors of a majestic prism. Sparks and flames already erupted from her heels as her Trailbalzer Kicks readied to carry her forth as fast as they possibly can.
But most importantly, resting at her waist like a sword ready to be drawn, was the Phoenix Feather. Flames carried forth from the tip, burning with such intensity despite the cool air.
She was ready, physically. But emotionally?
It didn't matter if she was, or wasn't.
The raid was beginning soon.
"Roxanne! Business!" She shouted out, watching the timer tick downwards, closer and closer. "Whatever happens in there, no matter what. I-" Her words failed her, but it seemed the Pokemon understood what went unsaid. They both nodded slowly. "I- Thank you."
Mr. Business simply nodded his head, a soft, confident grin on his face like he was about to walk into the world's most dangerous business meeting full of tie-eating sharks in bloody waters with locked doors and a rising water level, and somehow walk out with the contract to the legal rights of the Jaws franchise. Impossibly stoic, how she envied his confidence.
Roxanne, however, twisted their massive head around, glancing back at Laguna as the Poke-Pet scrambled around to remain atop. Her voice ever as naturally sultry, a confidence in their tone. "Auntie, we shall find our brothers and sisters, and restore the balance of this land. But we, could also not do this without you."
Tears dripped down Laguna's cheek, but she nodded back all the same. The clock struck zero, it was time. The Dragon's Den reversed, carrying players down into the bottom, to properly grant players safe passage to the depths beyond, and a glimpse at another dungeon beyond. Now, however, was the time to focus. Laguna and Business rode on the back of the Yacht-carrying Onix, swirling down into the depths.
A massive underground pool with water thick like blood, soaking everything except Laguna's clothes, whicking off of her. Mr. Business, however, had planned for the occasiona, discarding his umbrella to the side that he seemingly pulled from his suitcase.
Mr. Mimes, man.
Laguna's eyes watched as everyone kicked it into gear, restoring color to the pale Pokemon. It almost made her sick, the sight of it all. This... happened to Sheldon, Hoppy, and Glacia, she was sure of it.
She almost threw up.
Almost.
Hearing orioncayge shouting about getting everyone up, forced her to get a hold of herself. They couldn't delay, she couldn't afford to hurt. She'd save them. She had to.
"Business, I think it's time to get to work, don't you think?"
"Oh, and here I thought I had just started working Overtime." A subtle smirk, a quiet chuckle, and then the man immediately twirled into work. His large tap-dancing shoes clapped against the yacht deck, echoing in the chamber.
"Time to support our shareholders-" A powerful ice-infused twirl carried mystical energy itself towards various colorless Pokemon, Wingull, Finizen, Piplup, and Oshawott. A powerful Safeguard would wash over them, ice protecting them from the elements.
"And ensure that we are cash flow positive." Mr. Business continued, suddenly twirling in the opposite direction as his feet continued to tap away, summoning a Rain Dance that poured down atop the Finizen and Piplup, who looked like they needed a drink.
All the while, a cold, refreshing breeze would wash over themself, readying to keep healing as often as they could.
Laguna could not help but crack at least a bit of a smile at all the nonsensical business statements. "Roxanne! Carry us forth!"
"Aye, Auntie. We have more to free, within." The Onix would slither forwards like a giant snake, carrying forth. "My cousins await us, we shall not delay."

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE MOVING TO ZONE ONE
Eddie was no stranger to peril.
The Edge of Eden was a dangerous place, and his family were dangerous people. Sure, people didn't dare fuck with them, balked into fear by the legacy of retribution his grandfather had scarred the city with, but it didn't mean he could let his guard down. Any slip up could be fatal, any fight could turn lethal. As the dunes shifted and stirred in the ambient air, charged with the electric tension of all of the various players around him poised and ready, talking about how long they'd been planning for this, exchanging stories from events he'd only heard of through his cousins stories. Yet, he couldn't find himself focusing on any of that, he could only think about the shifting desert, how strangely alien and familiar at the same time. Despite being a world away, he still found himself inextricably drawn to the sand, thinking of the age old family motto.
Members of Southside don't die, they talk a long walk into the desert.
A speech drew his attention back to the matter at hand, some woman he'd never seen before standing atop a a mon he wasn't quite familiar with. A queen? Was this some sort of guild thing? RP? He had no clue, and he didn't have time to find answers as she shifted and transformed into something brilliant and bizarre, and yet with no context he had zero clue how truly amazing such a feat was.
But her words carried enough weight for him to get the memo, it was on like fucking Donkey Kong, and he'd just fixed the quarter acceptor.
The door into the dungeon opened, and the players swarmed into the belly of the beast like a horde of pissed off fire ants, charging into the dark unknown ready for anything but what they'd encountered. A field of discarded husks of Pokémon, drained of their color and left comatose in a makeshift crypt. Gasps and cries of shock filled the tunnel, though some were simply stunned in silence as they gazed upon the horror that was Hearteater.
Eddie hovered over a colorless litten, peering down at it with eyes wide, his fists clenched tight as he took in a deep shuddering breath. Once again he wasn't raid ready, he was swimming back through the sands of time to another horrific event.
{Spoiler}{TW: Childhood Trauma, Blood} Eddie peered through the crack of the bathroom door, fluorescent light flooding through the crack like a lighthouse, drawing him towards it like an errant ship to shore. Or a moth to a dumpsterfire perhaps. The sound of running water filled the air alongside the mixture of light whimpers and a chorus of reassuring coos.
"It's okay baby, everything's gonna be okay alright?" "We're gonna get you cleaned up okay?" "Hijo it's not your fault."
Steam leaked through the crack like a withering smoke, and the young ginger stepped closer, equal parts horrified and curious. They were all on lockdown, he knew that, he'd gunfire enough to recognize it, he knew the family drills had been for a reason, he'd just...
Never expected it to actually happen.
On the Linoleum tile, a tiny black tanktop sat limply, coated in crimson as the tile was smeared with an ungodly amount of blood across its Ivory surface. The shower curtains were flung wide open, three women, his ginger mother, and his two latina "tias" hovered over a small form like mother hens, each bearing sponges and exfoliating scrub brushes, whatever they could get their hands on to scrub away the trauma staining the young man betwixt them.
"Orion..." Eddie gasped softly.
The younger cousin, who'd just turned twelve, was perched on a small shower stool. His eyes wider than dinner saucers, but pupils shrunk to the size of a pinprick as he rocked back and forth. He was shivering despite the scalding hot water of the shower filling the room with heat and steam, his skin pale as a ghost as if he'd had all the color sucked right out of him.
Except for the crimson stain of blood that caked and clung to his torso.
He'd never seen so much blood before, not even in the goriest of movies he'd watched at Uncle Mac's House without him knowing. It was different, it was real, and it was his Aunt's. His knees buckled, his heart raced, and his breath caught in his chest. His hand reached out, unthinking, grabbing the doornob and gently pulling it closed, leaving the young man in the darkness to process what he just saw.
And without thinking twice he ran back to his room and crawled under his bed, abandoning his best friend.
Eddie's eyes watered, his heart a whirling vortex of sorrow and rage. He'd abandonned him all those years ago, despite knowing there was nothing he could have done, he still wished he'd done something, anything at all would have been better than turning tail and running. But now? Well, he still felt unprepared for whatever was coming, but as his gaze shot up and he saw the other players getting to work, he swallowed his doubt and cast aside his fear.
"I'VE GOT TWO LITTENS OVERHERE THAT NEED RED!" He bellowed, flagging down another player who was carrying a charmander around like a mini flamethrower. "I'VE GOT-" he paused and double checked, "THREE TEPIGS HERE!" Players rallied to his call, and as each mon was resuscitated he would help guide them to the exit, picking up the ones small enough to do so and carrying them if they were too meek to do so. They worked like a lean mean machine, Darby the Growlith working side by side with him like the firedog he was born to be. As the victims began to thin, heard calls of more people heading in deeper into the belly of the beast, and stopped, shivering slightly as he did so.
Orion and his girlfriend were likely down in there. That really cute pink haired woman was likely down there, the strange bird lady was making her way down there. His jaw set, and he took a step forward.
He was done running away from danger, and he was done letting Orion show him up.

HEARTEATER RAID: CYCLE 2Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!Upper ZonesPlayers scuttle back and forth between the upper zones of Hibernaculum, invasive ants in a foreign nest. They move between the pale piles, forming contact with the long-taken natives through swift moves, precise touches, and softened blows. Color flows back into the white-washed world. At the Sundial Entrance, desert-dwellers scuttle back up the sandy tunnels and out over the sun-baked dunes. Beneath the bay, the restored forms of aquatic creatures splash and swim away through the briny Harbor Entrance. The Pokemon in the Nexus take the elevator up. 26 Native Pokemon have been restored to Ostellia! There are more colorless Pokemon to help, but as the clamor of players delve further into the Hibernaculum, the creatures that live here are alerted to their presence. The player-owned Ultra Beasts in the Nexus all speak, delivering messages from the heart of the hive. At the Sundial Entrance, a Blacephalon unburies from its hiding spot beneath a pile of colorless Pokemon. Its multicolored head swells, exuding arid heat as it prepares to [tangent=If not prevented, this attack will deal 100 damage to all Pokemon in the zone.]detonate[/tangent]. In the Harbor Entrance, Nihilego slides free from one of the watery tunnels. It reaches for nearby players with its questing [tangent=If not prevented, this attack will deal 100 damage to all Pokemon in the zone.]tentacles[/tangent]. The walls of Nexus Entrance are full of corporate Papier-mâché tunnels, and out of an upper passage comes Poipole. The tiny purple body descends, drifting, almost dreamlike, as if not used to violent commands. It floats over to the players, curious and cautious as to what they are doing. It tentatively raises its [tangent=If not prevented, this attack will deal 100 damage to all Pokemon in the zone.]stinger[/tangent].
Entering: Zone 1The tangled tunnels of Hibernaculum begin with its entrances. And as the players venture deeper, they only become harder to navigate. Paths split and converge, parting into dead-ends or store rooms, thin alleyways and five-way crossroads. The mini-map is a mess, impossible to navigate by sight. The only true compass in a place like this is gravity; you must head down.
Unlike on the previous floor, the Colorless Pokemon here are not unconscious-- but they do not seem themselves. Red mist trails from their bodies like puppet strings as they roam the halls, trudging slowly in time to a distant, constant rhythm. A Froakie pads past on sand-stained feet, its blue body bleached to lighter than summer clouds. Elsewhere in the tunnels, a Varoom trundles by, its chalk-white engine coughing out streams of red smoke. It passes a Bergmite headed the other way. The tiny icicle is white, like a freezer-burned ice cube, and it slides along the floor with friction-less ease.
These kidnapped Pokemon are under the control of Hearteater, patrolling the tunnels that lead deeper into Hibernaculum. Your friends have been subjugated and set as guards against your presence.
Win them back.

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE > MOVING TO ZONE 1 There was something a little overwhelming about all of the activity around him. No, not a little overwhelming, a lot actually. Had this been why he hadn't wanted to take part? Had subconsciously he known just how 'much' this would be for him? It certainly hadn't been conscious, especially since Nero would never have thought that this would be a problem. His teen years had been full of raves and parties and crowds of every variety, so why would replicating that within a video game be a problem to him? ... Except the years he was referring to were behind him now, and not voluntarily either. He'd spent the last twelve months almost entirely locked up inside his own home, so maybe that was just too long to be away from that world. Maybe solitude started to leach into your bones eventually, and this sudden shift was too much to adapt to all in one go.
Oh well, too late now, wasn't it?
He'd just have to try and keep to himself - which was easier done than said with how people rushed passed him on every side without so much as glancing in his direction. Everyone had a goal in mind, everyone was focused on their own duty, whether because of personal stakes, a desire to prove themselves, or something else entirely. Nero might as well have been playing on his own with just hundreds of NPCs around him really - and he actually rather liked it that way.
He spotted Josh Devlin racing past him on the back of a Pokemon - some things never changed - and the other player was gone in a roar of buzzing wings before Nero could even say hello, off on a mission of his own. Nero had muted the global chat back during the countdown when that first creeping sense of this being too much had begun to prickle his skin, so he had missed the comments about who was attacking what types anyway - as well as who was going where. Some players seemed to be strategising well judging by the waves of colourless Pokemon bouncing back up and heading up the dunes the players had just come down. Others seemed to be working alone like him though, and at least so far, the two approaches seemed to be complementing each other well. The strategists cleared en masse, the individuals cleaned up what was left. It was a match made in heaven.
A huge Pokemon suddenly shone a bright light from its eyes nearby, Nero covering his own with his hand to look towards Ruby 's Celesteela as it began blasting quite aggressive life back into the Pokemon around them, before it moved off deeper into the dungeon itself - though funnily Nero couldn't see the player that it belonged to right now... Other players seemed to be moving around in other less orthodox ways too - one that he didn't recognise with the name-tag of Morpheus was flying off with a Flapple, though before Nero could see where he went, a girl labelled Bergamot Gristleborg was suddenly crashing through a sand bank like it was nothing but a beaded curtain.
Other players seemed to be staying put, like one that was bellowing instructions to some of the nearby players - one of the deeper strategists maybe? Nero caught a glimpse of the name eddiecayge as he peered in the direction of the voice, but there were soon too many people blocking his view and muffling the sound for him to follow what was going on. There was someone nearer to him too though, with the name Lucille over their head, who seemed to be approaching this task very similarly to how Nero had - so much so that she was using a member of the Cyndaquil line to fire off Embers at nearby Pokemon! "Nice!" Nero called in her direction, enthused by the similarity before feeling immediately embarrassed about calling out to a stranger like that. He quickly turned his back on her to try and pretend it hadn't been him that had spoken, searching for other colourless creatures to attack as a convenient excuse for being busy.
There didn't seem to be any fire types left nearby, so he called his own Quilava back into its Pokeball to focus his efforts on Kabutops instead with a wider range of moves available to her. There were some dark and bug type tags nearby, so Nero whistled Tops to his side and pointed them out. "Okay, Leech Life on those two there, Night Slash on those two, yeah?" She gave a sharp nod and fired her bug move off at the two more distant Pokemon as she approached the nearby Varoom with a black glowing claw. One slash, and then another on an Elgyen. and the four attacks had landed, leaving Tops to race back to Nero's side for further instruction. "Is that everything we can do?" he queried, looking around once more before spotting the descending slope that the Celesteela had headed down earlier. "Alright, let's move on then." Another whistle, and he and Tops were racing deeper into the belly of the dungeon.
Ducking and weaving between the various battles, the squads of players working together, the chaos and excitement and fear and adventure, Nero gave a glance back towards the Pokemon that Tops had hit, pausing when he realised only three of them were actually moving now. Oh! There was another tag on the Silicobra! A rock move, huh? No problem. Yanmega was released into the air, and had barely appeared before Nero was calling out, "Ancient Power on the snake, then catch up with us!" She was fast, she'd have no trouble doing so, so Nero took off running again as glowing rocks were telekenetically launched towards the Silicobra, shocking life back into it as the Yanmega banked around the walls of sand and followed Nero deeper into the dungeon.

ZONE 1: HIBERNACULUM
Alicia growled to herself as she pushed onward, winding through the tunnels. She noted each turn as best as she could, speed-typing notations in self-sent DMs to help her keep track the moment she noticed the mini-map go haywire on her. She might need to pull back if her team got hammered badly enough, so a series of messages she could back track through would help her return to the surface if things got too hot. There was valor in knowing when you had to pull back after all. A hero’s no good to anyone dead.
”How’re we all holding up?” Alicia asked of her armored allies. Each of them had thin but sturdy plated armor on, an effective gift by Giyun early because he had to shed. They were covered almost head to toe without actually being significantly weighed down, so speed and mobility wasn’t an issue. Meanwhile, weapons wise, Venex had crystal-clawed gauntlets on his hands to help, and Tikani had an array of spikes she could hook her vines into to attack with. She hoped what she’d managed to forge was going to be enough for her friends…
”I’m alright for the moment.” Tikani replied, huffing as her now average-sized frame rushed to keep up with Alicia’s fast pace. She couldn’t afford to Drift carelessly here, and was thus forced to rely on her natural speed.
”Still… Strong. Will… fol-aargh!” Venex began, only to clutch his head as the Hearteater’s Psychic presence invaded.
”⏃ ⍀⍜⌇⟒ ⍙⟟⏁⊑ ⋏⍜ ⏁⊑⍜⍀⋏⌇”
Alicia’s blood chilled at that. If she had correctly pieced together enough of Venex’s chittering and other communications… She didn’t let it get to her any longer. ”Fight it, Venex! Follow my voice!”
[tangent=“Enough!”]“⟒⋏⍜⎍☌⊑!”[/tangent] Venex roared out, shaking his head. [tangent=“I bow no longer to you! I choose Alicia as my master! Starve and wither, Bright One!”]”⟟ ⏚⍜⍙ ⋏⍜ ⌰⍜⋏☌⟒⍀ ⏁⍜ ⊬⍜⎍! ⟟ ☊⊑⍜⍜⌇⟒ ⏃⌰⟟☊⟟⏃ ⏃⌇ ⋔⊬ ⋔⏃⌇⏁⟒⍀! ⌇⏁⏃⍀⎐⟒ ⏃⋏⎅ ⍙⟟⏁⊑⟒⍀, ⏚⍀⟟☌⊑⏁ ⍜⋏⟒!”[/tangent]
The Naganadel huffed at that, as if he had expended a great deal of effort. ”Sorry… Was… Hard…” the dragon bee muttered out.
”I can tell. Do you need to rest? I can pull you out-“
”No!” Venex interrupted. ”Won’t… fall! Stand… as one!”
Alicia nodded, smiling. ”There’s no shame in taking a break. But if you’re going to insist…” She trailed off, eyes widening at the sight she and several others came across.
More Pokemon, as colorless as the ones at the entrance. But this time she recognized at least one of them. ”That’s Reynir! Focus on recoloring that Ponyta! Body Slam Tikani, Venex, Charm! Light hits please!”
And with the tooltip she could pull up… She was right to conserve her Ledger’s power. One of their own needed it. She pulled it out and flipped it open, drawing her fingers over the pages and drawing the Corruptive power from them.
”Right!” Tikani replied. This was one of theirs though. So as she pulled up to the Ponyta, she did her best to more ‘Body Bump’ the horse rather than a full on slam. The first one, she felt herself be filled with spectral might. For a second, she felt the Everworld’s energy again… as if she’d passed away. But she had to focus. The first hit went without a hitch… until Reynir struck back, stabbing her with that horn. ”Agh!”
”Of course they’re fighting back… dang!” Alicia growled out. Then she sent the Ledger’s power out into Tikani. The Bayleef let out a cry, thoroughly disturbed by the energy that courses through her briefly with the next ‘Slam.
”What was that!?” Tikani screamed in horror as she pulled away from Reynir’s next retaliation. ”That felt like whatever was infesting Mistra! Was that what you used against that giant bug back then!?”
Alicia grimaced, not willing to respond right now. Tikani sighed, vowing to press the issue later. And then Venex came in and dropped a small heart of Fairy energy onto the Ponyta, fully recoloring it.
But Reynir didn’t stop. Instead the horse kicked a loose rock, smacking Venex in the head and making the dragon bee hiss out in frustration. Alicia’s eyes widened at that, and she immediately flicked open a new DM. Flicking a setting, she made sure it would buzz the glitch hunter’s own UI when it hit, which would basically demand her attention by marking it a high priority message.
That message sent, she moved on. Her IRONGRASS MINO would let her hit Steel on that Piplup without triggering Super Effective damage. ”Tikani, tap the Piplup!” And was that a-… ”And jolt the Shinx with a low Drift!”
Tikani nodded, whipping a vine out and popping the penguin a bit on the head. It was as gentle as she could manage. And with that motion she developed a charge. Another crack of her vine let her fling the equivalent of a Thundershock towards the Shinx.
”Venex! Go for the Shinx, Carvanha, and Varoom! Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse, Venoshock, and another Plot!” Alicia ordered, pointing the mons out in turn.
The dragon nodded, swooping over the colorless Pokemon like a wraith. With an exhalation, it dropped a haze of darkness over the Shinx and the Varoom, before swinging around to ping the fish with a split-second charge of draconic aura. Finally, a shot of poison was flung towards the Varoom.
That wasn’t to say Venex could avoid retaliation though, the three mons attacked fired back with whatever ranged ammunition and powers they had available to them, and the bee was suffering as a result. ”So… much!” he complained.
”I know, I know!” Alicia grimaced out, flicking over to raid chat. She couldn’t keep going like this or she actually would White Out! And she couldn’t afford to lose any of her team this early into the push towards Hearteater. The Charge was stalled for the moment.

HARBOR ENTRANCE > ESCAPING TO NEXUS ENTRANCE > MOVING TO ZONE 1 Morpheus looked around the entrance as he cautiously strolled through the field. He didn't know what was going on back at the Sundial, but he saw several wild Pokemon who had their colors fully restored escape through an elevator. From seeing a player named @kyokon taking care of a few Pokemon with his partners' moves to a young girl in armor punching a Stunfisk, he could tell everyone was working hard on their first objective. And as much as he was tempted to follow other players like orioncayge and Laguna, he had a feeling something would happen to the Pokemon if he left them alone.
Just then, his Snubbull suddenly came out of his pocket and sniffed around. <<Morpheus, should we do something here?>>
Morpheus did another scan of the entrance and hummed. "I think the players should be able to help with the wild Pokemon here. For now, we should head to the next entrance." He then pulled out a Poke Ball and aimed it at his Flapple. "Take a rest, Malum. Thanks for carrying me here."
<<You owe me for that flying service. You seriously need to lose some weight!>>
He rolled his eyes before recalling his Flapple back in his Poke Ball and turned to his Snubbull. "Let's go, Genki."
With his Snubbull by his side, Morpheus ran to the next entrance. While it took a while for them to arrive, he managed to arrive at the Nexus. But he quickly stopped as he noticed not only his recent friend, Shalin Nariya present along with a few players, but also a strange Pokemon appearing in front of them. A small purple creature floated above them while glaring at the players with its alien blue eyes. He had never seen that Pokemon before considering he barely played games outside of Pokemon Platinum and Switch games. Morpheus knew something must have happened in the first Zone, but he needed to take care of the remaining colorless Pokemon along with a few others first.
"Genki, try to help the wild Pokemon with your Thunder Fang and Fire Fang. I'll check up on Shalin," Morpheus ordered.
<<I'm on it!>> His Snubbull rushed towards the said wild Pokemon. <<Sorry about this! But it's for your own good!>> Following her trainer's orders, she used Thunder Fang on unresponsive Grubbin and Snivy. <<It's a good thing Morpheus didn't bring Ourus here. She would yell at me if she was here seeing me bite her fellow Snivy...>> She then rushed towards the Grookey and used her fiery fangs to bite its remaining color back.
Meanwhile, Morpheus rushed to Shalin's side and smiled. "Didn't expect you to be here. Are you... Huh?" He froze to see another unknown, yet muscular Pokemon on her side. "Shalin, w-what in the world is that Pokemon?!" Unfortunately, their reunion was short-lived as he noticed the strange Pokemon about to raise its stinger to the players, including Shalin and Morpheus. "Dammit, is it trying to attack us?!" He had a bad feeling it might be bad if he let it attack. So he had to act fast as he noticed his Snubbull coming back. "Genki, take care of Shalin's Pokemon!" Morpheus ordered before he rushed towards the strange Pokemon.
<<Huh?! Morpheus, what are y->> But it was too late for Genki to stop her trainer as she watched him rushing to the Pokemon without a second thought. <<Wait! Can you even attack a Pokemon at all?!>> The Snubbull growled in frustration. He recalled from the other Pokemon that he had an item he got from the last raid. But she wondered if he might be okay on his own. For now, she turned her attention to Shalin's Buzzwole, who was shocked at its presence. <<W-Whoa...>> She muttered. <<How are you doing?>> She growled affectionately with her full-on Charm.
As for Morpheus, he continued his charge towards the unknown Pokemon. He took out a Poke Ball containing his Glaceon and was about to throw it. However, he stopped and noticed the Pokemon's movements. It seemed cautious, yet curious despite its stinger raised. He knew that Pokemon was dangerous. However, he couldn't help but wonder if it wasn't aggressive at all. "Are you...lost?" He slowly approached the Pokemon while avoiding any unnecessary noise to scare it away. He even put the Poke Ball away before he slowly moved his hand to it. "Do you need any help?"
He gingerly placed his hand on the purple Pokemon as it curiously approached. Then suddenly, he flinched as it saw visions from his memories. There, he saw a vision of him in a cooking contest. It seemed like he was struggling, however, as he was forced to rhyme and deal with other shenanigans just to cook a meal for the judges. As the vision ended, the purple Pokemon froze at what it saw, leaving Morpheus to stare at it in confusion. "Um... Is something the matter?"
The purple Pokemon remained silent for a while. Then it started laughing.
[tangent=“You are funny!”]<<⊬⍜⎍ ⏃⍀⟒ ⎎⎍⋏⋏⊬!>>[/tangent]
Morpheus raised his eyebrow. He already set the translation on, yet he couldn't figure out what the Pokemon was saying. However, his thoughts were broken when he saw the Pokemon raise its stinger at him...
And spewed out a strange yellow goo on his face. A goo that didn't seem to harm him in any way except his pride as he heard his Snubbull laughing at his strange predicament.
<<You're an interesting human! I want to join you!>> The Pokemon said, now in a normal language he could understand. <<I'm Poipole! Let's be friends!>>
"U-Uh... Thank you? Glad to have you on board, Poipole."
He was still confused. Yet he was grateful to have a new ally for the raid despite its unknown origins. Either way, as soon as his Snubbull returned to his side, he saw no more wild Pokemon needing color. "Poipole, you should tell me everything you know. The more info, the better."
<<Okay!>>
With that said, Morpheus decided to head deep within the entrance and see what was happening below.

NEXUS ENTRANCE > ESCAPING TO NEXUS ENTRANCE > ESCAPING TO ZONE ONE The player was focused on the directive of saving pokemon, driven by pure adrenaline and the thrill of actually being useful in this raid unlike the last. Pale golden orbs swept the remaining colorless pokemon at the Nexus Entrance, slightly frowning that there were few who have yet to be saved. However, there was nothing she could do for them. She could only hope that another player could save them from whatever hell they were in.
Speaking of other players, Wolf noticed that many players either have already pushed on to the next area or have escaped to another entrance. And for a moment, she hesitated on what she, herself, should do next. Although she wasn’t familiar with all the players who have joined in the raid, the hybrid was sure she was probably the weakest of them all. Much like in the last raid. And luck like in the last raid, her hesitation seemed to be her greatest downfall.
By the time Wolf came to a decision on what her next move should be, strange voices echoed off the walls and filled the air with the sense of danger. Her eyes widen, watching out of pure disbelief as the ultra beast known as poipole descends from what feels like no where and spots Wolf almost instantly. It approaches her curiously and defensively, stinger at that the ready. Instinctively, the player took a step back. Her expression almost fearful. But for some reason, it waited to attack.
A prompt popped up in the corner of her vision, the player reading quickly and carefully before I vanished due to her own personal settings. “Befriend it,” she spoke in a whisper, both her pokemon stood behind her emitting their own warning growl. She was quick to silence them with an arm out, like she was holding them back. And with the other, she nervously reached out to gingerly touch the poipole.
Suddenly, both her and the poipole were teleported in a misty haze. While they were frozen in time, the pair searched through her memories- no- Wolf ’s memories. Finally, the searching stopped upon one she still recalled often. It was when she saved a certain Vulpix (now known as Sombra) from the Underworld she was sent to by another, making the creature feel wanted and loved once more. And thus, bring her back from the dead. Reliving the memory in such detail brought even a tear to the player’s eyes, blinking rapidly to send the water droplets down the side of her rounded face. At the end of the memory, both were forced back to the chaotic present.
Watery gaze lifted to the poison type ultra beast, its own gaze seemed watery and much softer than before. Or, was that her imagination? Suddenly, another prompt popped up in the center of her vision.
It took a hot minute for it to set in, the player’s gaze flickering to the side of her vision as sprite of poipole and the plus symbol flashed. The creature before her tilted its large head to one side. “You have a good heart.” The player, still stunned for words, stared at it. “Of course she does,” the Type Null snarled at it, dark gaze glaring at this strange new ally, “Why else would be with her?” “Not all are good in this world,” the greninja replied with cool quiet calmness, “But Wolf is among the few.” Wolf blinked again, fighting back the tears that wanted to overwhelm her.
“Look-“ she forced herself to say, pausing to wipe away the potential tears, “I think I heard that some assistance is needed at the Harbor Entrance.” Taking a deep breath, the hybrid refocused herself. “Cragen. Get some rest. I might need you again later.” “Sounds good.” With that, the player recalled her greninga. And in his place, her support braixen materialized. “Izumi. Escape us to the Harbor side.” “Right away my Lady,” Izumi replied, plucking her stick from her tail and waving it like a wand. “I’m coming with you,” the poipole commented promptly, resting on Wolf ’s head forcing her wolf ears apart. “Uhhhh… Yeah- Of course.”
In the blind of an eye, the team was teleported to a new area. The underwater caverns making the player shiver. The fear of drowning the first to pop in her head. However, the shouts for assistance in revving pokemon put her back into the zone. Play golden orbs shifting, spotting a poor DREEPY still needed some help. “Izumi, heal us up while Ziryan, use IMPRISON.” Much like back at the other entrance, a strange psychic glow encased the creatures from reviving it almost completely back to heal. Unfortunately, that’s all she could do. “If anyone has that question mark type, this one needs help!” Not wanting to waste any more time, the player moved on to the next.
“Another beast is here.”
Wolf’s gaze shifted wildly at the poipole, fear that she might be KOed if she doesn’t escape here soon. “Uhhhh… Right. Thanks.” Her gaze shifted back to the few pokemon felt, spotting another creature she might be able to help. “Over there Ziryan, use IRON HEAD on that PIPLUP.” The type null followed the direction his handler was pointing too in their mod dash, spotting the creature. Lowering his head, the axe like thing attached to his helmet became hard as steel. He rammed into the poor little creature, effectively bring the pokemon back to life while also aiding in its escape from this hell. Wolf rolled her eyes, but fear of what was about to happened overpowered her want to scold the creature at this point in time.
“Time is running out.”
Gaze lifted to the poipole who seemed to have attached itself to her head, only to roll them and look to her two other pokemon. “Ziryan. ESCAPE us out of here now.” As the team naruto ran with the other players further into the raid, their bodies teleported to the next zone. Who knows what kind of trouble they are about to get into next?

SUNDIAL ENTRANCE > ESCAPE TO HARBOR ENTRANCE
With the Sundial largely cleaned up, only a few Pokémon remaining, the young rider's expertise was needed elsewhere. "To the Harbor, Mirage, on the double!" he ordered, flicking the reins to encourage the Ninjask to go faster.
"I think 'on the double' would result in you being a smear on the wall, kid," Mirage teased as his wings roared, echoing loudly enough for Aero , Kyukon , and Altair to likely hear them. All he could see was directly in front of him, a strong blur effect obscuring the rest of his surroundings due to their great speed. Only when he was hovering above the Harbor Entrance did he slow to the point where he was visible again.
Before Josh could even get to the Pokémon, Altair seemed to be working on coloring all the Pokémon that needed flying-type attacks. "I'll leave you to it, buddy!" the boy cried, hoping he could be heard over the his mount's wings sounding like a revving engine. He had a much more concerning threat: a Nihilego terrorizing the poor Pokémon and preparing to launch STEALTH ROCKS everywhere. If one of them touched Mirage, he was a goner. The Ninjask, though, was one of the few Pokémon fast enough to have a chance at weaving around their ranges.
With Altair covering all the flying Pokémon, he had to go after the Nihilego. While hostile, it seemed to be struggling to resist Hearteater's commands. "...Enigma?" he asked himself. Did his RIVAL's Nihilego really go to the Everworld? Or was it being controlled by Hearteater?
As the poison-type Pokémon approached, all of Josh's movement was halted by a prompt to share a memory with the Ultra Beast. He typed his message to be communicated to the alien:
MESSAGE> You might not recognize me, but it's Josh. When I looked much older, I battled your trainer, ARAVAN ESCHER. I was too weak to stop him from pushing you to your limits, and both of us greatly suffered. I'm so sorry. I will do everything in my power to rescue you and return you to your rightful trainer. And once that's over, we'll have the match of a lifetime. Within safety limits, of course. Just fight it. Fight Hearteater with everything you have. Remember your trainer and everything he gives for you. Remember him, Enigma...
By the time he clicked "send", the Nihilego had already wrapped its tentacles around Josh. Rather than resist, he embraced the largest one like he would one of his own Pokémon...

Zone 1 Hubernaculum > MOVING to Zone 2Orion had never been more proud of the community, how quickly everyone had managed to get together and work on all of the mons. Commands to take care of the injured mons, sweepers bid to be gentle, he swore he even heard a few shouts in his "mother" tongue of Italian, something worth investigating later. Colors roared to life, and mon began to stir and move.
As Roxanne whirled past Orion, the fighter redoubled his pace in an attempt to keep up. Adze having recovered from his landing flit alongside him, tiny wings carrying him through the air with a light buzz that was barely heard over the clamor of shouts and people organizing. Morpheus quickly found Orion's other side, and the trio dove deeper into the belly of the beast alongside all of the others. So many mon had been restored to life, and a small chain of newer trainers were quickly establishing a daisy chain somewhat akin to a bucket line to pass some of the meeker mon back to the entrance, several swimmers schooling up to shepherd them to safety. He'd wished he could linger, and help restore more, but time was burning and he wasn't about to let anyone deeper into the pit suffer any longer.
Or let Hearteater go unpunished.
"Adze!" Orion barked, pointing to the yacht and then making a hand sign that looked like a bird flapping its wings. The bug gave Orion a thumbs up before grabbing him by the scuff of his armor plated coat, and Morpheus by his actual scuff and hefted the trio through the air to join the sailor aboard her vessel.
"Holdin together alright ma cherie?" he'd ask flashing her a cocksure smile, though a light twinkle of worry in his eyes betrayed his façade before his gaze glanced away further on down to the path. "If this is any sign of things to come we're going to clean house, everyone's comin home." Adze would flash her a thumbs up before sipping on some more bugjuice, and Morpheus was hopping from one foot to another to keep his tempo.
With a moment to breath he'd toggle through his UI and ensure he had all of his best in slot items equipped. His trailblazer Magboots, born of smashing together two pieces of loot with his Ironsmith class quickly adorned his feet. A crown of thorns adorned his head, causing the heat and hearts borne from his body to intensify. He quickly tied a blazing bandanna around a scrape he'd gotten on his elbow, letting the soft heat soothe his sore skin before lastly toggeling into his custom SPACE POWER jorts, one half a bright neon yellow, the other half a cosmic purple with hues of blue and red, little white dots adorning the leg in stars. Magical girl transformation complete, he'd put one leg up over the ships railing ready to bail the moment they arrived to the next fight.
Which came a lot sooner than he'd expected.
The first round of captured mon seemed to rear its ugly head, the gasp of others around him confirming his fears as he scanned the crowd for any familiar faces. A myriad of messages flashed across the raid chat, a couple messages about needing help saving their mon from the mist, a few about moving deeper in, a couple requests for healing.
"Morpheus!" Orion turned to the hound. "I spy with my little eye a lost member of our family, go help Glacia out and then bring back the yellows to the people who need it! Then drop some heals on Tikani!"
He would turn to Adze to give him an order when he saw the bug recoiling in pain, doubling over as some imaginary foe was throwing hands. "Adze?" He asked, jolting to the bug and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Stay with me buddy."
...
Adze felt the shrieking commands of hearteater bearing down on him like the weight of all the sand, steel, and water above this hellhole. It's subsonic song wreathing its way into his mind again, trying to take him back, force him to comply with the heinous acts of a foul leader. Their muscles roiled and writhed, every fiber of its being defying the commands being waylaid into its head. It refused to give but a single inch as it's wings screamed it's own subsonic symphony back, trying to drown at the beasts words.
And then Orion touched him, and he wasn't standing in a cave on a yacht anymore, he was...somwhere else.
He'd seen these things before, though slightly worse for wear, strange metal structures bearing chains and plastic platforms. A ground of shredded wood, structures built for shade. A playground. The words resonated in his head, something he'd never heard of before, yet he knew that's where he was. Before him sat two figures, one small and frail, with pale skin, the other tall and large with ebony flesh. The big one had an arm around the small one, his hand running up and down the small creatures back as it made a soft choking noise.
It was crying
Adze had no idea what this was, what he was seeing, but words were flooding his mind as he stared at them. Sounds he'd heard his new master say in the past, now given context, now given clarity.
"Orion buddy..." The larger man, Uncle Mac, said. "You know that things are hard right now."
"It's n-not fair." The smaller child sobbed, "Why c-can't dad be there? Ev-ery one else is going to be there."
"Rion..." the man, tutted. "Your dad is...hurt, from all the fighting he's had to do for us."
"He seemed okay when I saw him last time." the lad protested, looking up with tear filled eyes. "H-he seems fine enough to d-drink and watch TV all the time."
"He's..." Mac averted his gaze, a long and drawn out sigh escaping his lips. "His body isn't hurt little man, his heart is. His mind is...he's...paying the ultimate price for what a man's gotta do to take care of his family." He pulled Orion closer in his one armed hug. "I know it's hard to understand, but...your dad is still fighting, for you, for us, and the world."
"The world..." Orion whimpered. "W-what?"
"Buddy..." Mac drawled, scratching his chin. "There are lots of bad things that happen all over the world, but for us...this city...our family, a lot of...bad things happened. Your pops has been fighting his entire life for us, finding ways to make things better, and when you were born? He redoubled his efforts, he's slaved his entire life to try and make a brighter world so that when it was time for you to have your family you don't have to fight as hard to take care of your family." The whimpering stopped, replaced with a soft rhythm of breath.
"A brighter world?"
"Yeah buddy," Mac chuckled. "A brighter world, and let me tell you, if you open your heart up to the world..." he paused and tapped Orion's chest. "You will NEVER stop finding reasons to fight for it." A single tear ran down his eyes. "And god damn kid do I know you're going to do great things with your life...so cut your pops some slack. He's hurting in ways I hope you never have to understand, but I...know you will one day anyways."
"Okay..."
"You wanna get some icecream bud?"
"Yeah..."
...
Adze's heart stirred, words that once had no meaning suddenly filled his head, sounds and chips now understood, and as his eyes found Orion's. "Adze?" The trainer gasped. "You good bud?"
The musclebound bug raised one clenched fist up, it's thumb slowly curling upwards. The hand then thwaped Orion twice on the shoulder, and the beast nodded at him, giving an oddly expected look to him.
"Get in there and smack some color back into em." Orion commanded, for a moment forgetting that the bug couldn't understand him. And then with a blur, the bug was off onto the battlefield dashing forwards alongside Morpheus. The humunculous hound stanced up and let loose a wave of thunder, smashing across several of the missing mon and spreading yellow fever among them, causing them to dash towards the healer. Adze placed himself between the uncoming foes, muscles flexing.
BRING IT ON. The Ultrabeast howled inside his head. IT MATTERS NOT WHAT FORM YOU TAKE HEARTEATER, I AM ADZE OF THE CAYGE HIVE, AND I WILL BREAK EVERY STRING YOU FUCKING WEAVE. Poseidon the Carvanha charged at him, teeth gnashing ready to take a bite out of him and his healer. With a jut of an outstretched palm, Adze countered the charge, and using the fish's momentum against it and twirled, spiking it into the ground and letting it bounce to Orion. SO COME! BRING ME ALL YOU HAVE TO OFFER AND I WILL BREAK THEIR STRINGS, THEN I WILL BREAK YOU. He whirled around at light speed, each move a fierce mix of offense and defense. It was a fight, and while he was doing his best to be gentle to unwitting pawns that would soon be allies, he couldn't hold back everything. FOR MY HIVE THAT YOU CORRUPTED, FOR THE PEOPLE YOU HURT, AND FOR THE FAMILY I HAVE FOUND. His skin hardened in a strange searing heat as he let a Swirlex and Froakie slam themselves into his fiery fortified frame. FOR THE WORLDS YOU HAVE EMPTIED, AND THE WORLD YOU HAVE PREYED UPON NOW. I WILL FIGHT YOU TO MY DYING BREATH! TILL THE FIRE IN MY HEART HAS GROWN COLD, AND THE THUNDER OF MY BLOWS GROW SILENT.
Unbeknownst to the internal fury of the fighting fly, Morpheus found Tikani and let out a series of soothing tones that sounded something like metal drums, healing the leafy mon.
Orion on the other hand had leapt down off the boat to tackle Poseidon, bringing them both to the ground. "Heya buddy! Long time no-" The mighty fish mon wriggled and writhed, forcing the fighter to grit his teeth. "Sea." He managed after a moment, "I just need someone to get one more move off on ya...and I'll be Dragon ya home with me." Alicia's Nagandel obliged him, and soon he was cradling his lost fishy friend.
"Really dude?" His gaze flit from fish to friendly voice as he found a familiar face over him. "Puns, right now?"
It looks like Eddie had made his way into the depths.

HARBOR ENTRANCE MOVING TO ZONE 1 Out of all players in the Harbor Entrance, Aero was one of the few who remained. While she wanted to join other players, she couldn't bear to leave the colorless wild Pokemon alone by themselves. But with all of the remaining colors didn't seem to fit with all of the moves she and her Pokemon learned right now, she wondered if she could have joined the others in Zone 1 after all. Looking at her Crocalor and Snom, she knew there was no other option beyond switching entrances.
Yet as she was about to make that decision, she looked up and gasped to see who was flying on the giant Ninjask above her. "Josh?!" This was unexpected for Aero. She was expecting him to reply, yet she never expected him to come to the Harbor immediately. At the same time, she saw another figure coming out. Several white feminine Pokemon with tentacles that she never expected to arrive at the raid. "Ultra Beasts?! Man... If I didn't goof around here, I would have put that Buzzwole and those quests two and two together," she groaned. "But what the heck are they doing here?"
She then watched Josh approach one of the alien Pokemon, noticing he somehow recognized it, not just from the Sun and Moon games, but something else... She didn't know what was going on between them. However, when she noticed its tentacles wrapped around his body, mainly his neck. Realizing what was going to happen, Aero rushed towards them and shouted with horror. "No, Josh!"
But rather than attacking the Ultra Beast with her swords, she put them away and tried to pull its tentacles away from her friend by grabbing a few of them. "What's wrong with you?! Can't you see Josh is trying to help you?! I don't know what's going on in Ostellia lately, but there is no way I will let you hurt him or anyone else!"
The moment Aero grabbed its tentacles, the Ultra Beast that tried to grab Josh flinched as it stopped its movements. At first, it started to see Aero's memories of adventures and her attempts to bond with her Zygarde egg. But then, the memories stopped in midpoint and it let out a screech that neither Aero nor her Pokemon could understand. Before the young adventurer knew it, her arms were quickly grabbed by the rest of their tentacles. "No, wait! Stop! I didn't attack you! Honest!" The Ultra Beast ignored her pleas as it was about to grab her legs and along with Josh's...
Until her Crocalor jumped in and tackled her out of her bindings.
"CRAAAAWWWW!!!"
As Aero recovered from her brief capture, she gasped to see her starter Pokemon take her place as the Nihilego wrapped its tentacles around her Crocalor's body. "No, Coco! Don't be a hero! You're at a disadvantage against that Ultra Beast!"
But her Fire-type Pokemon ignored her pleas. He heard her vow to protect anyone including her friend from the Ultra Beast. He was her very first friend in this unknown world. There was no way he could let that monster hurt his partner like that!
Coco the Crocalor used Hyper Voice! With a deep breath, Coco let out a loud booming cry with embers flying towards the Nihilego. Aero froze to see him risking his life to save everyone. Yet she felt hopeless not able to do something to him. That was until she noticed a prompt on her HUD.
Your Crocalor wishes to evolve. Do you accept? Evolve... So she could evolve him one more time to help him? Aero knew that was still risky, yet she didn't want to miss this opportunity to turn the tables against Nihilego. "Ah, I'm done thinking!" She quickly tapped the YES button on the prompt. "Kick its butt, Coco! Evolve!"
With her command, Coco cried much louder as his Hyper Voice grew bigger. Just then, his body began to glow as it grew longer into a true crocodile physique. Then, the fiery "hat" disappeared as the egg above it "cracked" open, revealing a small bird made of flame flying on his nose. Lastly, flames emerged from its mouth as the light disappeared, revealing his newfound stronger body with a loud roar. This caused him to be freed from the Ultra Beast's bindings as he let out a much louder Hyper Voice.
Congratulations! Your Crocalor has evolved into Skeledirge! Aero's eyes perked up, now growing ecstatic to see her partner Pokemon evolve for the final time. Just seeing his armor also grow with him made her happier along with his newfound birdy partner to help them defend against the Ultra Beast threat. "Nice job, Coco! Give that Ultra Beast your best singing yet!"
Her newly-evolved Skeledirge followed through with her cheering as he let his Hyper Voice turn into a brief concert. The fiery bird then flew in front and extended its foot into a stand, turning itself into a microphone stand so Coco could sing through it. As for Aero, she took this chance to turn to Josh Devlin and glared at him. "And what the heck are you thinking?!" She tried to smack his back in frustration. "I've been PMing you for a while now after seeing your message at the global chat and you haven't answered lately! Plus, that Nihilego is an Ultra Beast! Are you trying to white out yourself?!"
Regardless of his answer, Aero then heard some noise deep without the castle. It would be a waste for her to leave the Nihilego, but she needed to see what was happening below. "We'll go on ahead. Just...don't do anything reckless now," she said to Josh before she and her Pokemon headed into the first Zone.
