The path forked again, briefly sliding to a stop. The rumbling of beating wings in the distance was forcing her to make a quick decision. But, it wasn't just her making the choices anymore. "Alright gang, where to?"
"I'd say a delightful stroll through the garden could be lovely, but-"
"Some of them beasties can hide in foliage!" Glacia suddenly chimed in with some thoughtful commentary. "The smoke and heat might scare off some of the beasties!"
"You just like being a little firebug now, don't you?" Mr. Business commented, chuckling at Glacia's cheeky grin.
"Alright, let's get going. Stick together." Laguna would swiftly leap out the door to the Fire Escape, the intense heat washed over them like a wave, smoke pouring upwards like a smoking dragon. There was no time to pause to equip Kindler to handle the heat, they had to go.
And yet, for some reason, she was suddenly taking off her fireproof Rainbow Flame Cloak She moved to wrap it around Mr. Business's shoulders, nodding. At the same time, she activated her Cool Jorts, surrounding her with cool winds. Hopefully it was enough to disrupt the heat and the smoke for herself.
"Time to descend into hell." And with that, she took a step back and dropped down a ladder.

Laguna wasn't expecting to find much of anything in these old buildings, at least nothing useful. But she was finding a few interesting things here and there.
She stood in what clearly used to be an apartment on the second floor of a building. Feeling almost like she should, she began to clean up the place. Slowly pushing the couch back into place, sweeping up the broken shards of what used to be a fishtank and some windows, shaking the dust and rust that had settled atop a rug.
This was nice. It was starting to almost look like someone could have lived here at one point. If it wasn't for the lack of exterior walls, ripped away and completely exposed to the elements. It was a miracle the fabric on the couch wasn't completely ruined.
She slumped down onto the couch, feeling the damaged cushions just sink, flat. A sigh slipped from her lips, all while Mr. Business poked his head out from what clearly used to be the bathroom. The Mr. Mime was wearing a small apron, and gloves for cleaning and shifting through rubble. "If I may suggest, I'd like to look for a newspaper printing facility after this. I think it could be a worthwhile endeavor. Or perhaps at least, an Office Depot?"
"You know? That's not a bad idea." She stood up with a soft smile on her face, only to hear a soft thud somewhere else and she froze up. Was it another trainer? Perhaps an Ultra Beast nearby? Better to be cautious, in any case.

Laguna had to jump back to avoid being dropped down through the sand as the dunes ripped apart. The landscape itself was changing and unpredictable just like their minds.
And yet, there was some kind of beauty in that. She watched in awe, seeing the Ultra Beast made of wires suddenly dance. Wires and roots intertwined, becoming something more. A communication between two alien beings, a world of unseen thoughts, connection. It was unspoken, but she could have swore that she saw the flames of the thrusters die down. Perhaps there never had been any aggression to begin with. Maybe it expected it?
Pokémon were smart enough to know that Trainers often just challenged them to a fight, and captured them. Surely an Ultra Beast was aware as well? Maybe they just processed the thoughts differently?
Regardless, Laguna swiftly moved to pick up her Snom, twirling in one spot as she held them delicately in her hands. A sudden musical jingle echoed in the air, her Partner's theme. Soft, melodic notes filled the air. It was a soft, slow dance, her feet stepping across the sands, dancing and twirling as she cradled the bug in her arms.
"See? What have I told you? Friendship is the right path forwards."
Snom's mouth couldn't really smile, but there was no shortage of joy in their voice. "As if I doubted you!"
Sure enough, it seemed the Celesteela's head was slowly shifting back and forth, whether it was just watching all that was going on with interest, or potentially even enjoying the scene, the music, or anything else? It was hard to guess. But it was working, and that was all that mattered.

It seemed to be... working?
"Well I'll be damned." Laguna immediately let out a quiet laugh, grinning ear to ear when the other player came up to join her. She wouldn't have judged any other trainer for responding with violence, it was fairly natural in the world of Pokémon to initiate a Pokémon Battle. And yet, this felt satisfying. This felt right. She couldn't read the Celesteela's expressions, or even their body language, but they didn't seem to attack. Even as their thrusters burned, deep roots continuing to rip up from beneath the sands and exposing what had long been hidden, ripping up at least one half-broken car. They just seemed to watch. It could turn around and attack at any second, and there was certainly room for caution, but even still Laguna held onto that hope.
She could give it a show. Maybe show it how interesting they were, that they should travel with her.
"They don't think like we do!" She'd suddenly explain to the not only the other trainer, but both of their Pokémon as well. "They attack for reasons we can't know, but not all of them. Maybe, we can convince it to relax?"
"I- Okay. Okay. I can do that." Snom spoke up, daring to drop from their trainer's back. Frictionless, they'd slide down the dune slowly, only to eventually let out a loud sneeze and shot backwards powerfully with a Powder Snow! The snowflakes floating in the air, beautifully mixing with the sparkling lights.

She immediately winced as her word seemingly woke the slumbering beast. A bamboo-like monolith of steel and energy, power enough to rocket towards the sky and the moon beyond.
This was a bit much for just her and her Snom to handle.
"Woah, woah!" She skidded to a halt, debating internally for a brief second. There unfortunately, wasn't going to be much ability to calm them down when they didn't understand English, nor... Spanish? Italian? For that matter. She wasn't the greatest at recognizing other languages, if it wasn't French.
"Coming!" Laguna shouted, dashing forwards as she swiftly pulled a small wand off her hips.
"Do we have to fight?" The Snom began, blinking softly as they nervously summoned their will.
"Normally, I'd say no. But they won't understand us... We can try. Follow my lead." She waved her Wand of the Winds in the air, a sparkling fairy light glimmering in her palms brightly. Waving her arm back and forth, furiously trying to get its attention, even as roots seemed to be slowly ripping up from the ground, disrupting dust and sand everywhere.
"Hey! You! Over here! Leave them alone!" She'd fight to defend herself and others without a single hesitation, and yet she was viewing these confrontations with the Ultra Beasts in such a different light after everything else that had happened.
And sure enough, the Celesteela's head turned, although perhaps it was only distracted by the light and nothing more.

"I promise, you'll learn to fly one day. Evolving is a process, and not even the smartest minds of ours completely understand how it is done or how to do it." A voice raised across the dunes, speaking to a particularly small friend as both flame and snowflakes were left in the trail of a the skating dancer.
"But, when will that be?" Spoke the soft-voiced bug, their little legs clinging to the back of its trainer by a frost-covered thread that wrapped around them. Beady eyes watching and scanning across the horizon, nerves seemingly obvious despite their decision to remain present. "Have you seen it?"
"Of course I have," The trainer spoke, skidding down across another dune. With all of her practice, sliding through the dunes had become a particularly favorite pastime. It was like a snowboarding course that seemed to always change shape every time she returned. "Some evolve with certain stones infused with energy, others evolve when they get stronger."
"And how will I evolve?"
A soft smile formed upon her face. "With friendship, love, and kindness in your heart."
"... Really?"
"Yes, really!" She'd laughed, her eyes suddenly glancing down at another trainer and their Pokémon across the dunes. Her feet swiftly adjusted, turning to adjust her direction and head over to say hello.
"Ahoy!" She'd shout to announce her presence to the other, but perhaps she shouldn't be too loud. Dangers continued to lurk amidst these ruins of societal collapse yet. Even now, she'd never stop searching for new friends. She had to set a good example for the little one, after all.

A leap down into darkness eventually illuminated an old break room. A shame she didn't really have the time to to investigate it in detail currently. Flames tickled her skin, and she had to keep dashing forwards to avoid the swarm of Ultra Beasts on her tale.
"Where are we going, Mama?" Glacia suddenly asked, swinging back and forth in Mr. Business's arms. "Do you know the way out?"
"I climbed in a window! Not the ground floor! We're gonna have to find, or make our own exit!" She called back, kicking down a table in her way as they leaped out into the hall.
Darkness consumed them and traversing in the dark was difficult with so many people all rushing as fast as they could. Fire illuminated the path with her Sunsteel Strike, but only immediately around her. She couldn't see too far ahead, piercing the darkness seemed to be a tougher task than she could expect.
And yet, she couldn't help but overhear everyone else as they ran.
They were taking Pokemon.
Her heart skipped a beat inside her chest in panic. They had to leave. Now.
As soon as Laguna saw the underwater path, illuminated by EXIT lights, she was swift to turn around to ask Mr. Business how long he could hold his breath, when she saw him peeking his head around the other doorway.
"Business! We gotta go! Can you-"
"Wait, wait. This room is interesting. They kept important papers here. I can tell."
"How can you tell?" Laguna asked, a bit dumbfounded. But she wasn't about to distrust her Pokemon. They were here looking for information and anything potentially useful, after all. If they could somehow still make it out with something, maybe it would be worth it.
"The organization! Trust the business instinct! Quickly now, they could be here any second!"
The three of them swiftly adjusted course, dashing THROUGH the ruined cubicles. The blinking lights of sleeping electronics like stars, flickering in the darkness as papers ruffled around.
"Oh, if I had time to get these old Personal Computers a good shake awake," Mr. Business relented as he ran alongside, holding Glacia ever still. "A little elbow grease, attach a printer, and we'd be in a smorgasbord of data."
"Sadly, gonna have to wait till next time Business!" Laguna jumped over one cubicle to the next, rather than attempting to dash around them. However, Business seemed to pause. His well trained eye for official documents catching something in a small, manilla envolope He quickly grabbed the letter in one hand before jumping over the cubicle as if he was climbing invisible stairs.
"Got something!"
"No time-"
"Right! No time to stop. I'll read it aloud. Multitasking is a valuable skill in business." He'd clear his throat, beginning to read out. His voice monotone, as if he's reading a presentation to a boardroom of dedicated employees, instead of a group of desperately running players and Pokémon running for their very lives from alien beasts that threatened to abduct them.
"Nine Thirty-Eight, Twelve Oh-One. X X X X. Urgent Memo." Another throat clearing, ducking beneath a series of stacked decks to climb between a few more ruined cubicles, following his trainer's flaming trail.
"For internal circulation only. It has come to management attention that a number of Environmental irregularities are causing significant distress among the office staff- Yeah, no kidding."
"Ahem. Due to the irregular circumstances, the Pokémon League has issued a Stay at Home order, effective immediately. Please return to your homes and continue work from there- Woah!" He swiftly jumped over a very obvious tripping hazard. The fatal half-inch of debris, could have been deadly!
"-And be prepared to evacuate if necessary. The current recommended evacuation route is via Liberty Pier to the South. We appreciate your continued efforts, blah blah." His monotone voice swiftly faded, filled with his normal upbeat tone. "The rest is corporate speech. Let's boogie and get out of here!"

Laguna was not prepared to find a knife, but the jewels reflecting in the light drew her attention. The metal was dark, but the hilt covered in beautiful gemstones. Although, it seemed to be missing one. The digital confetti and BONUS REWARD shoved in her face made it feel a bit tonally dissonant, however. Like they weren't being chased down by a terrifying mass of Ultra Beasts Even still, she was incredibly curious and tucked the blade into the belt on her waist.
"What did you find, Mama?" Glacia suddenly spoke up, glancing curiously at the other trainer nearby, Respiro, who also seemed to be looking at her blade.
"A knife, I'll tell you about it later!" Laguna shouted, swiftly picking up the pace as she continued to dash through the hall.
"I say," Mr. Business suddenly began. "I think we should worry less about mysterious blades, and more about the serious neglect this place has suffered. I mean, it has electricity to keep it cool, but not power elevators? Some serious lack of-"
"Not important right now, Mister!" Laguna replied with a laugh, jumping over a small hole in the ground before swiftly reaching the branching paths. Down into darkness, or climbing up a series of handholds that looked equally unsafe. There wasn't exactly any great options.
And yet, Laguna made the split second decision. Climbing up would only keep them inside the building longer, once they could get outside they'd be scott free. And climbing up, just to jump out, seemed like a terrible idea.
It was time to descend.
"Business, grab Glacia! We're jumping!" Laguna twirled, her Rainbow Flame Cloak suddenly sparkling to life with gleaming feathers. Flames would suddenly flicker across her skin as a Sunsteel Strike would illuminate their path down as they shot down.
"Can do, Ma'am!" The Bergmite was swooped up into the arms of the Mr. Mime. An arm was swiftly looped around Laguna's own arm, and the three of them jumped down, gliding carefully below.

Lightning shatters the pitch black night sky as glass fractures to pieces. Thunder echoes within the mind as though it could deafen thoughts. Rain fills the void just as knowledge pours freely from the mind.
The Eyes witness all. Their presence a weight upon the soul, dragging it down, down, down, down, down.
It is unnatural like anything else, alien unlike any alien witnessed. And it seems, The Empty has finally decided that too much has been Witnessed. Defined. Identified. There is no method to the madness, no madness to the method.
It simply is.
Those who remain find their actions Slowed, Stalled, Hindered. The pounding of their heart beating to a beat unfamiliar to their own. Jerks, Bumps, and Steps taken all on their own as though commanded by the quietly growing darkness.
Danger. The Empty wants in. It wants in. It wants in.
One soul can not dream to quell it all on its own.
All that is Known about The Empty shall become Consumed.
Seaweed stretches in the darkness unseen, growing where it is not Wanted, not Desired, not Wished. Like reaching tendrils for a being that does not exist, but always has. It creeps forth, gripping at all that moves. Catching onto limbs, attempting to drag ones down into the deep.
To be like all the Rest. The ones who Lost. The ones who Sank. The ones who Changed.
Eyes upon surfaces watch, as condensation forms upon them. Like tears, the salt drips below. Drip. Drip. Drip. Like a flood, threatening to drown what remains, to quell the threat of existence.
And yet, Pearls seem to shimmer in the darkness as the tears of the Eyes contact them. Her Eyes shimmer with a glory that Blinds, Deafens, and Mutes the others. Like a brilliant gleaming glow, like multitudes of souls burning brightly upon the finality of their existence, like two great powers at war with one another.
Never Ceasing. Never Ending. Never Finishing.
All within the town witness impossibly glowing bright lights from one particular abode, where Cardinal Glace and Celeste currently shelter. This home, filled with books upon books upon books, a bastion of Knowledge, Information, Facts. The last safe haven before the rest is Consumed by the Empty. And yet, travel to the safe haven would prove Risky, Dangerous, and Deadly. The Empty has become present, and it would be easy to Slip, Slide, and Fall right into the abyss.
As the world Changes, Mutates, Shifts into something new, something horrific, something unknown, sudden text reveals itself.
The Quest has Updated.

Misery. This office had seen better days.
Papers across the office that had been decayed by the passing of time, weather being unkind to this place of work. The lack of windows had the wind blowing through, a chill in the summer breeze.
A long puff through a pipe, bubbles coming out instead of smoke. Mr. Business was here on official business, and there was no reason to delay. An office cubicle had been slowly been re-assembled, or at least the chair had been. The wheels were old and rusty, but they would make do. He would sit down, spinning towards the desk when-
"Hey!" Laguna suddenly called out, interrupting the serious and dramatic comedy roleplay by the Mr. Mime. "You gotta help me look around, don't sit down silly! We got stuff to find."
"Yeah!" Shouted Glacia, eagerly circling her trainer as she kicked over a few pieces of rubble.
"I am helping! Trying to get into the mind space of these poor, underpaid interns. I see my detective skills are underappreciated." Replied Mr. Business, kicking back away from the desk in his mostly functional office chair, bumping straight into the water cooler. He'd pause, picking up the note as the quest immediately popped up in Laguna's vision.
Even from here she could see the bloody handprint.
With the sudden crack of concrete and the horrific buzz of hundreds of muscular monstrosities, Laguna swiftly picks up Glacia before the young iceberg even has a moment to process what's going on. "Time to go!"
"Don't have to inform me twice." Mr. Business suddenly flipped into Serious Business Mode, leaving Comedy Business Mode behind. Hands waving, a Quick Guard would sprout up behind them to protect even for a brief second as the trio dashed down the right corridor.
A trail of flame was left in her wake from her Trailblazer Kicks, the heat tickling the wet carpet.

She was content.
That was all there was too it. Not swirling colors in the sky or any threats could ruin this moment. She was happy to just stare into his eyes until she passed out and fell asleep. It was so sappy, so dorky, so... romantic.
Nothing could tear her eyes away from-
"...shrine of a dead legendary..."
"What the fuck?"
Laguna immediately twisted around, only to end up falling onto her butt, a bit disoriented after everything. Her eyes gazed upon the massive sundial, reflecting the light of the morning sun. It was broken, missing many parts, and clearly fallen into disrepair, but it was beautiful.
This was a place of power, even if the Legendary that once belonged here was long gone. There was always an energy to these places. Was that where the Parade was leading all along?
She kind of wanted to stay here for a while.
Reaching up, she'd grab Orion's hand and attempt to just pull him down into the sand with her. "We can talk about this later, maybe tell Ash, or see if we can ask Zapdos about it. I don't know. But right now? I'm tired, stay here with me until I have to go, please?"

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png It was a relief when not only he completely understood why she didn't drink without any questions, but went on to even make her laugh. She herself still had a few juice boxes sitting in her backpack, always hanging from the back of her wheelchair. Gotta have the emergency snacks.
It wasn't like she could take a quick visit to a drive-thru.
She'd take the bottles of hard cider with a laugh, setting one down beside her for a moment as she opened the other to take a quick sip as she listened to him. It was silly, but just the way he talked put her at ease. The list of people that she could genuinely just, exist with, was only in the single digits. This was nice.
Really nice.
When he asked what work was like, she'd pause for a moment as she nodded. "Well, Hydance is pretty nice. Bryan is a joy to work with. I don't do any of the like, coding stuff, mind you. Most of my job is about the real-world element. The occasional art asset, preparing events and the like. I worked my butt off to prepare for UNOVRCON! That was partially my baby, I'm so happy everything went well."
She'd sigh happily, slowly looking over at him with a soft smile twisting her lips. There was a genuine sparkle in her eyes, the excitement of being able to maybe, actually dance, was finally getting to her. "But enough about work, we can ramble about work whenever. Who knows the next time we're going to be able to be at the beach together?"
She takes another sip of her drink, before slowly reaching to put it aside. Her confidence was once again slowly rising, and there was no slowing down. "I don't know about you, Get Lucky is still a dance tune, even acoustic, don't you think?"

"You're what?!" Laguna shouted, but it was too late as Big Bee suddenly dived straight into the water and she was left alone on the board. Having to put her trust in them for Bertha's safety, she quickly picked up the oars and began furiously rowing to avoid being sucked straight in.
Deep underwater, the land-whale was tossing back and forth against the claws that reached up from below, attempting to drag them straight in. A hungry vortex that couldn't be satiated.
It was no longer adapted to the water, but whales didn't forget how to hold their breath that easily. It kicked and flailed its limbs, biting down onto the arms that reached up, only to be continued to pull down. Panic filled their eyes, glancing over at the trainer coming to her rescue for just a second. Bertha attempted to shout his name, but only bubbles spilled from her lips.
The claw attempted to wrap around her torso, and Bertha immediately acted on instinct. A loud whale call spilled from their lips, a visible aura of sound, an Echoed Voice, that shook and shuddered the claws long enough it's grasp was loosened.
Panicked and finally free, Bertha furiously kicked her flippers and tail, feet kicking uselessly as they desperately tried to make it towards Big Bee

Here she was again, swimming through the waters of the Drowned Harbor. It was always dangerous, that much was undeniable. And yet, despite the nerves and tense muscles, she couldn't help but be excited. She never did get the opportunity to look at the Doortals much, to explore them as deeply as she wanted to.
From this distance, she really was in awe of the sight. Glimmering lights danced through the water, coming from places far, far away. From realms that she couldn't possibly imagine, and then some far beyond her understanding. It was a place of intense danger, but also such intense delight.
It would be a shame not to explore.
"I see them too." She'd nod her head in response, kicking her feet and swimming closer towards Sarah. "I would expect some kind of danger, it would be only safe to presume. But let's try not to steer clear. I'm hoping we can avoid too much combat or difficulty today."
Her eyes would slowly drift up, scanning into the darkness of the ocean surronding them, like a shadow slowly destroying all light around them. The sun's light was dim from this deep, even the glory of the sun could not compare to the brilliant and glowing doorways to worlds unseen, just down below.
"Well, shall we take a look?"

"Roxanne is inded my name, little one." The Onix spoke, welcoming aboard the guest. Climbing aboard her was certainly a bit slick, but once let up to the very top, holding onto the horn on her head made everything easier.
Laguna effortlessly leaped up as well, very well familiar with her Pokemon. "Alright dear, let's go. Allons-y!"
The Onix began trudging forwards, making their way across the desert sands, almost as if they were gliding, skating almost frictionless across the sand. It was almost mesmerizing, watching them turn and twist like a snake. Only for the sands to eventually become dark, stained black with corruption as the amusement park that bordered the Corruption Zone swiftly came into view from behind the dunes. The largest ride, the Ferris Wheel, laid toppled to its side, laying atop some nearby walls like a wheel constantly about to fall.
"Well, well," Laguna spoke up, admittedly curious. "I don't know about you Josh, but, amusement park in what used to be Unova? This has gotta be Nimbasa! What else could it be?!" Her excitement was swiftly overwhelming her, leaping straight off her Onix as she charged ahead, eager to see what was going on.
