Perhaps they got a papercut after all, Mr. Business frowned. He really should perhaps get some spectacles if he was going to make some unfortunate judgement calls. Such a beast was surely not to be trifled with. "Perhaps you should get that... Wrapped?" His voice faltered as Torino suddenly jumped down. "They're going to get more hurt, aren't they?"
"Probably." Laguna rubbed at her own wounded shoulder for a second as she made her way to the edge of the building. The whole building was crumbling. Not much they could do at this point, except save their own skin. Crashing through the ceiling probably didn't help.
And to think that poor apartment had just gotten somewhat clean.
"Business, we're jumping!" Laguna spoke, swiftly retrieving her Rainbow Flame Cloak from her inventory and clasping it around her neck.
"You mean, you are jumping. It'll be safer for you if I simply-" He didn't finish his sentence, once again vanishing into the Pokéball.
Without another word, Laguna jumped, diving off like a diving board at a pool, head downwards as the ground rapidly approached. Her eyes glanced at Torino atop a ruined car and the flash of the Kartana zipping away. "Incoming!"
Just before it was too late to act, Laguna gripped the edges of the cloak and flipped it out, catching herself in the air and suddenly gliding forwards to land on the ground running. She stumbled from landing a bit too hard, but managed to catch herself and kept going. Her Trailblazer Kicks leaving a trail of flames as she chased it. She was expecting a bit of a run, only for it to suddenly twist around to catch her off guard.
She instinctively held up her arms, moving to protect herself as her arms suddenly covered themselves with a thick layer of ice, but was it fast enough?

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png Abby got exactly what she wanted. That flustered face of his. It was rare to catch him so off guard, flustered and blushing so badly that he needed a moment to think. Blushing, stammering, and making a total fool out of himself.
She adored it.
Abby's playful pout had turned into a full on smirk, just leaning into the computer screen to look at him. Even when he suddenly spoke, seemingly finding the words for apologies in French after so long, she was just giggling right away. She quietly listened to him fully finish speaking. About makeup, work, Skylanders, and apparently his family. How interesting.
The praise to her dress certainly got her smiling, exactly what she had been hoping for. Not that she'd admit it.
"Oh yes, of course. Because you're a man who needs makeup. Been catfishing me since day one. Well, technically I catfished you, but-" She waved a hand back and forth like it was no big deal, clearly teasing in response with a laugh. "Doing good though. Been a pretty eventful day. Mostly because I left my jacket at home, and I tell you, the air conditioning at work is freezing me out a bit. The root of my entire problems today."
She laughs yet again, it's so light and freeing. "I mean, come on. It's not exactly like I can get up and walk around to warm up. So, you know. There I was, just freezing at my desk there, when I get the bright idea to get some coffee. So you know, I wheel myself down to the break room and grab a mug. Only to, well." She moves to grab the small little plastic cup on her desk that held several brushes and pencils, only to drop it down dramatically.
"You know. Take a sip, way too hot. Burns my tongue! Spills and goes, everywhere. And, well I can't exactly just, climb down onto the floor and wipe up the mess. So I had to go get help, and- you know what? Do you know how hard it is to go get someone to clean up your mess, because you're not able to?" Abby laughs again, slowly rolling her eyes as she goes to grab the juicebox from across her desk and takes a little sip.
"I mean, the folks at Hydance are super supportive, hah. But man, does it feel so silly. Like, I already deal with dropping stuff enough at home. I have a few of those, magnets on sticks and little gripper things. You know, the clawed things that you get at the supermarket for like, 5 dollars? Horribly overpriced, because then snap on you immediately? Whatever they are called. And you know, it's not like it's easy for me to just go down and get a replacement! Because I still have things all over my floor!"
"Heavens, I can't even tell you about how many times I get cereal everywhere. One time I got dry choco-puff cereal all across my carpet, and then accidentally rolled over it with my chair before I could clean it, and then it got all crushed in deep, and even my vacuum didn't seem to get it all out, and-"
She blinks, a faint blush forming on her own cheeks. She was absolutely rambling, now was not the time for that, no matter how much he rambled. It was cute when he did it! "... Ahem. No, the dress was, totally something I wear in my down time. Mhm. Glacia says hello, by the way! She wanted to come, maybe one day, heh."

"Professional is my middle name, after all." Mr. Business spoke, keeping the barriers up to defend until Torino had the Beast firmly in her hands. Amazing precision, without a single papercut. Remarkable. "You've been sending shudders down the whole building, only a matter of time before it falls if you kept it up."
Laguna meanwhile, was attempting to climb up the side of the building, grabbing every hand hold she could, exposed rebar and crumbling concrete, when the whole building continued to shudder. This was really not a safe strategy, then again-
"Oh." She blinked, feeling dumb for a moment. She had Player moves, she could totally cheese this!
With a sudden laugh, Laguna just let go and jumped off the edge, starting to fall.
Sparks tickled against her skin before erupting into flame as a Sunsteel Strike swiftly carried her up to the next floor and slightly above. Not wasting any time, she'd carry the momentum and the powerful flames to slam her body straight into the Kartana. It attempted to dodge, but the flames still certainly charred them.
After the move was done, however, she immediately dropped, landing on the ceiling above and crashing through to the floor below, by Torino and the others.
After the dust settled, Laguna would cough, clearing her throat as she stood up. "Okay, yeah. That probably didn't help. Anyone got eyes on it?"

The book was unharmed, she shouldn't have expected anything less. Corruption was hardly easy to confront. And yet as the two others picked up the book, she could hardly shout warnings fast enough before the power suddenly shut down. The whole place seemed to crunch as dust settled in the room.
A confrontation broke out between the remaining trainers, and Laguna didn't know how what to say. There was no power the Tome could grant that would save their friends, it would only doom them.
The Corruption was not something to be embraced. It was an enemy, in a way that was absolutely undeniably so.
She was lost in her thoughts, stunned. When the others finally stepped out, she'd look back at her Pokémon with a soft frown on her face.
"You attempted to warm them, Momma. That's the best you can do." The Bergmite would hop down out of Mr. Business's arms, nuzzling against her leg.
"Thanks, dear. I just worry, so many people don't... know. They weren't there. They haven't seen what we have-"
Her words were suddenly interrupted with a loud crunch in the wall behind her as the room began to crumble. A powerful muscular arm shoved straight through the wall, hand outstretched trying to grab hold of the intruders that still remained. "Business!"
"On it!" The Mr. Mime swiftly held up his hands with a Quick Guard, the fist slamming into the forcefield to protect the Trio. Suddenly, another hand gripped the hole in the wall, ripping it apart as the Buzzwole attempted to press its bulging muscular upper body through the hole it was making. "It's not gonna last! We gotta go!"
A small black wire crept across the floor, lazily winding up from a huge crack in the floor.
Taking the advice of her Pokémon, Laguna swiftly pivoted on her feet, reaching down to grab Glacia to get the hell out of there, only-
"Glacia?" Laguna's heart froze in her chest, the Bergmite no longer right at her side.
"M-momma!" Bergmite's voice was strained, struggling as wires wrapped around her small form, swiftly attempting to tug her down a crack that she was too big to fit down. It was the sole reason she hadn't vanished immediately. It was practically crushing her.
"N-no no!" She immediately entered a sheer state of panic, swiftly moving over to grab down onto Glacia's spines, bracing her feet against the ground and tugged hard.
She fought, struggling hard against the wires that threatened to claim her baby, all as Mr. Business was barely holding back the Buzzwole. Another punch slammed into the force with such force that Mr. Business was slid back on his feet a few inches. "C-can't hold!"
"Momma! I'm scared!" Glacia struggled against the wires, attempting a Rapid Spin, only to be held in place.
"Don't be, Momma's got you, I got you, I-" Tears were dripping down her cheeks, sparkling onto the electric wires below. The ground cracked even further, the hole slowly widening and another tendrilic wire snapping up, sparks flying. "I-I won't lose you again!"
Mr. Business could barely hold back, his arms weakening, energy fading in face of the terrifying muscular threat before them. He couldn't give up, he couldn't abandon them in their time of need. He steeled his resolve, staring daggers up at the Buzzwole, who then slammed its proboscis into his force field.
It took a few moments, but eventually Glacia's face slowly softened, realization washing over them. They weren't going to make it out. Not without Laguna coming to intense harm in the process, and even then there was no confirmation that she'd make it out either way. She had already died twice, she had faced death and crawled out with the help of her trainer, her Momma, Laguna. She would be okay.
Laguna immediately recognized that look on her face. How could she not? It was ingrained into her mind as a core memory.
Once at the Bedrock Shrine, and then at Bronstanton Manor.
"N-no! D-don't you-!"
"I know you'll come for me Momma. I love you."
Laguna screamed.
Glacia wiggled with every ounce of its energy, twisting around to grip a wire within their mouth. A powerful Ice Fang ripped through the exterior of the wire, causing the beast it was attached to to make some unholy noise and tug as hard as it can. The floor erupted beneath them, and Glacia was suddenly swept straight into darkness.
Laguna kept screaming, sobbing as her arm reached down into the darkness, trying to grab her baby.
Mr. Business was the one who leapt into action to save his trainer. With a Power Swap on the Buzzwole, temporarily borrowing its intense strength, twist around to grab his hands around Laguna and rip her away from the ground and carried her out of the building as fast as his feet could carry her.
She was limp in his arms, her heart bleeding. Seta's past words rang in her ears, as if the rest of the world suddenly didn't exist.
"A shared death is not a shared fate."
She wished it was her. Glacia didn't deserve this.
"You are right to be concerned. To take a spirit from the Everworld is to teach it understanding of something eternal. Immortal."
Glacia... The bravest Pokémon she knew, but it drove her absolutely crazy. Sheldon, Hoppy... now Glacia. Her baby.
"Fear is erased, replaced with faith. But fear is what guides mortals. Without it, in confidence, we fade. Our steps grow tangled. The way back is lost, and a new one must be found."
"... Business, please help me find her. I can't do this anymore on my own. I don't know if my heart can take it."
"I will, I promise."

Staryu"Alright, you're free to go." Laguna spoke softly, cracking open the Pokeball from Cygnus as she stood on the Coastline of Beta Island. "I'm not going to hold you without your consent, Staryu. I don't know where Cygnus found you, but you're free to go, if you want to."
It was a beautiful night on the Coastline, free of clouds, the moon rising up above the heavens like a beautiful light amidst the heavens. It was incredibly serene, but now unfortunately was not the time to relax. She had a duty to uphold.
No Pokemon should ever be held against their will. Sentient, living beings just like her.
The Staryu stood upon the stand as it was released, twisting its body to glance up at Laguna all without a single word. The red core within the middle of its body simply glowed a soft red coloration, flickering between on and off.
"... Umm, I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean with your lights. Do you understand me?"
The Staryu suddenly nodded its upper arm, as if nodding, only to shift and face upwards towards the stars. Silence followed, just quiet reverence for the heavenly bodies above.
With a soft smile, Laguna would move to step away, to allow the Staryu to return to the world they came from when suddenly she felt one of the arms tap against her leg. "Huh? Yes, what is it?"
The Staryu would shift back to Laguna, and then suddenly flop down flat against the beach, the light blinking, sending messages out to the stars.
Laguna wasn't entirely sure what they were trying to say, but she couldn't help but smile softly anyways. She'd slowly lay down beside it, placing a hand atop one of its own arms. "Alright, I'll stay with you for a bit. Do you have any favorite stars?"
A few more flickered lights, it would seem that in fact, they did. They had many friends up in the depths of space, and they had so many stories to tell. And they had just made another friend, down here on Earth too.

This place was going to come down, or at least part of the upper floors. Laguna stood by the edge, listening to the confrontation standing right at the edge of floor, staring up. Climbing upwards was going to take forever, and at that point it might be too late for the other Trainer. Kartana were no joke.
"Business!" Laguna called out, swiftly moving to grab the Golden Pokéball on her hip. "Hop in, I'll toss you."
The Mr. Mime gave a knowing smirk, suddenly vanishing within the Pokéball without another word.
Laguna reared back, spinning her arm as she wound up like she was tossing a baseball. "Incoming!" Laguna shouted, suddenly chucking the Golden Pokeball hard.
The ball soared upwards, only for the Mr. Mime to appear from within as soon as it passed the floor. The ball fell back down for Laguna to catch, but the Pokemon was already moving into action. "Good evening Ma'am, where is the- Oh, there it is." Mr. Business began as he watched Torino physically tussle with the miniscule Kartana. Stretching out his limbs, a Wide Guard swiftly was propped up, blocking the Kartana's path as it slammed into it. "Quickly now, fisticuffs!"

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png Of course he made the easy joke about getting lucky, she practically set it right up for him on a silver platter. And yet, she couldn't help but just laugh in response at his fake disbelief. Honestly, she couldn't quite believe she had made the joke herself, but here she was.
Her confidence was fluctuating in waves tonight, it seemed. Up and down, over and over again. But, even that seemed normal. The butterflies in her stomach, nerves about something she was actually looking forwards to.
It was nice.
And yet, as he approached the question of how to carry her, she just continued to smile. She had thought and prepared about this for a while, Abby was ready. Or at least, she hoped she was ready. The idea alone had her so excited, but in the moment, she could only imagine how flustered she'd really be.
"As long as you don't drop me, too hard, we'll be okay." She immediately laughed, giving him a teasing grin. With that out of the way, she pivoted into talking about it seriously for a moment. She gently set her food and drinks aside, gripping her chair and gently shifting herself forwards a bit.
"I can't move my legs, at all. No feeling in them, so I can't support my weight, or wrap them around you neither. So the best choice, would be to wrap one arm underneath my knees, and the other around my back. Going to have to keep me against your chest, balance the weight a bit."
Slowly reaching up, she'd crook her fingers to silently ask him to lean down towards her. "But you're going to have to help me up, first. I can help with that, at least."
Her smile faltered for just a second, seemingly debating if she was being too forwards, before just shutting her thoughts up and acting stubbornly anyways. She was good at being stubborn, it was perhaps her core personality trait. With a quiet laugh at her own thoughts, she'd reach up, only to attempt and wrap her arms around his neck. "I trust you."

One leaves. The Unknown One. The Empty lingers on, but beyond its grasp, the Unknown One is safe.
The sky almost seems more welcoming beyond the village, the rain less intrusive, the lightning calmer. Beyond the village limits, the world seems far safer than whatever is within. And yet, eyes are opened to the truth. Perhaps it is simply safer to just, Forget. To not know what horrors lay beyond the realm of the visible, and the Known. Perhaps it is simply the best, safest case, to leave.
And yet, The Empty will not truly forget the Unknown. The Light House. A beacon of Safety. Security. Serenity. Beyond the winds howl, clutching at window frames, doorways, and cracks like wild beasts demanding entrance. Her Light denies them, refuses them, repels them.
The Empty can not be Furious, it can not Be anything, it refuses to be anything. And yet, it demands of you. It demands sacrifice. It demands repercussions. It demands suffering. Weeds crawl everywhere shadows remain, slowly surrounding the building as if it could strangle the life from within.
Within Her Light, The Known stand together. Trapped but not alone. Contained and yet free. Doomed and yet saved. Her Eyes glimmer brightly, Possessions of the Doomed shimmering with an echo, as if they both welcomed and feared the light. The Empty can not crawl within, it's reach can not stretch to where Hers remains. Two forces forever opposed. Two concepts repelled from one another.
But that does not stop One from attempting to invade the safe haven.
Lightning cracks and blinds those who remain, thunder echoes and deafens those who remain, as wood splinters in huge pieces, the Light House has been breached. The roof damaged, exposed, leaking in the piercing rains from above. The sky exposed, an eye of intensive proportions forming within the clouds, demanding silence.
It Demands.
Tumbling from the damaged roof, tucked away, falls amidst the Four who are Known. A Fifth Note for all to share. A new Author, a new presence. A leather tome, wrapped in cloth, and written in blood and ink both. It was as if it was Her response to the damage, to the violence. Her final gift.
Understanding.
I can feel myself losing my mind, it's insidious. It's like a worm borrowing into my skull, betraying how I think, how I act, how I feel. It's terrifying, and I've watched my closest friends and family all fall to it.
Whatever It is, I can't say. I don't know. These things seem to defy definition. It's like a predator, preying on our worst fears, but even that isn't true. It's like nature running its course, taking what it is owed, but that again remains untrue.
It simply is.
I would be completely gone if I didn't meet Her.
She has taught me how to combat it. I see her in my dreams, I can't explain it, I simply know that it is true. That these are facts that I simply can't deny. Maybe She is like It, but I can't prove it. Maybe She is just as dangerous as It. But at least with Her, I can keep my mind. I am me. Or at least, so I think that I am Me. And that is enough for now.
Written within the pages of this tome is a Ritual that I was shared long ago. My poor home is gone, among with everything that I had. And yet, I am Me.
If you want to remain as You, you should do as I inscribe. It might even help Them become as They should be.

"Did you hear that?" Laguna would finally speak to Mr. Business, glancing over in his direction.
"It sounds like a friendly voice, mixed with the sounds of combat." He spoke, pulling off his cleaning gloves with a carefully practiced motion, tucking them into the apron they wore. "And it sounds like they are destroying the building. Sigh." He verbally said Sigh, shaking his head. "And to think, our cleaning efforts are for naught."
"Uh, hello!" Laguna suddenly called out as loudly as she could, leaning far out the building as she tried to get the attention of the people above them. "Can you not wreck our shit? I just cleaned up this couch! I really don't wanna clean it again!"
Snip.
A rush of air suddenly whipped by Laguna faster than she could see. After a few seconds, not only did a few strands of hair suddenly drift apart, but her cheek was suddenly bleeding in a straight line.
"Gah!" Laguna called out in pain, and before Laguna can even recognize what had happened. Mr. Business had suddenly jumped into action. A Quick Guard was swiftly put up with arms stretched out, the invisible forcefield protecting Laguna as the Beast then became seen.
It slammed into the guard with a slash of its hands, incredibly tiny but no less powerful. After seeing it's cutting powers stalled for a moment, it suddenly flew straight upwards, presumably to the others atop the building.
"K-kartana!" She cried out, this time her voice filled with genuine caution and fear for them and not annoyance. "Be careful!"

"Hey, uh, Cygnus?" Laguna swiftly called out, popping her head into the train car after the pneumatic door hissed open. "Look, I acknowledge I've been busy, haven't been around. But really, you should come and see this?"
She'd motion to outside the train, pointing out a window within the cabin with a slightly nervous expression on her face.
The over 30 foot tall rocket ship of an Ultra Beast, stood outside in the middle of the Steppes, standing tall amidst the metallic spires that rose up from the earth. Like a skyscraper standing tall amidst the ruins of a storm, and for some reason, embracing it fully. They stayed put, staring up into the sky as if it somehow had answers that they could find if they looked hard enough for it. Thrusters swayed at its side, occasionally blasting flames at any wild Pokémon that dared get too close, curious about this new stranger within a familiar land.
Lightning crackled across the sky, and the beasts eyes seemed to sparkle. It was weak to the powers of electricty, and yet right now it seemed as if it was drawn straight to the danger like a moth to a flame, about to be swallowed whole.
It was only a matter of time before lightning struck the tallest metal beast there was. Even as the train rumbled on, they remained still, waiting for something, anything, that nobody could understand. Or maybe it was looking at something that everyone else couldn't see.
"I was trying to bring them to you," Laguna explained, brushing the dirt off her skirt. "And they just, started acting irrational. I'm not sure if you're informed what that is, but-"
She had to pause to breathe, truly out of breath after chasing it down across the Steppes before it rooted itself.
"That is a Celesteela. Supposedly, an "Ultra Beast" from "Ultra Space." It's... Complicated. Think of it like, this interdimensional realm, with wormholes to different worlds and dimensions. There are doors at the bottom of the harbor in Ostelia like that. But- Nevermind, none of that is why I am here."
"Clearly, you know by now that some of us can speak to Pokémon. Like, directly." She'd pause for a second, fingers gently brushing against the broken Gold Pokéball at her hip. "We can't with any of the Ultra Beasts. And outside of Ostelia, they seem to just... act insane. I've already done some research, apparently there is some Voice that demands things of them there. Maybe being so far away from it is the cause? The truth is, I don't know anyone else out there who possibly could figure anything out about them, except you."
She'd turn to face Cygnus properly this time, hoping the Celesteela wouldn't actually knock itself out by trying to summon lightning. "They're apparently great at fighting the Corruption, and maybe they can help your research, just as you could help them."
Laguna blinked, only to remember that she was technically in a trade shop. It felt... almost uncomfortable, but she supposed this was completely normal, for almost everyone. "I'm putting my faith in you to take care of them. I'll welcome one of the Staryu to my team, I guess. I know how the trades work, but realistically I might just try and find a safe home for them too. Just... Promise me you'll be kind to them. I swear there is a gentle soul beneath that steel exterior."
"Trading" Celesteela for Staryu

Laguna could not help but let out a soft sigh as Nero went to apologize. He didn't need to. In truth, neither of them probably did. The whole situation was fucked, but that's what came from using the game as way to cope with loss. Eventually, it could come back to bite you.
Somehow, some way, even in ways that you could never have predicted.
"No no, It's okay." She took a few shaky breaths, breathing in and out deeply. A brief, but effective breathing exercise to help her focus and not melt into her emotions all over again. "Don't bring yourself down to apologize, you have done zero wrong. But, I agree. I think it is, plenty time that we finally deliver the package. We can probably have a, well, deeper conversation on all this later? But only if you want to."
Her legs were shaky, but steady as she moved over to grab her package once again. Just before she could turn to walk down, suddenly Sir Hail's chains were wrapping around her waist in a gentle hug. "Do you require my services further, Ma'am?"
Laguna would just smile, slowly shaking her head. "I'll let you know if we do. You are relieved of duty." And just like that, he went back into the Pokeball.
She'd press forwards, taking her first few steps onto the fire escape. Were they always so high? Or was it just her nerves and shaky legs making it seem like the fall was more intense than it really was?
Laguna couldn't help but bite her lips, glancing out across the town to try and see where the package recipient even was. It seemed like all they'd have to do after dropping down the fire escape, was cross the street and they'd be right there. The horses racing through the streets didn't really inspire confidence when her legs were jelly, but they'd have to do.
"Alright, well um, ahem. Come on, let's go." She'd turn, giving Nero a soft grin before finally stepping down the steps. Only to immediately stumble, falling down a few steps and dropping her box, which tumbled down a few more as she gripped onto the bars to catch herself.

#s://i~imgur~com/lMEe1CQ~png "Hey, sorry gang, but I gotta get going." Laguna smiled to her friends, the frozen pond had provided a wonderful moment to bond with her Pokemon, but time was slowly ticking by and she had places to be.
"Aww," Spoke up Glacia, skidding across the ice to a halt right in front of her. "Where are you going momma?"
"Going to see Orion sweetie. We-" She began, only for a faint blush to form on her cheeks. "We have a date."
"Oh! Can I come? I promise I'll be real quiet!"
She immediately laughed, gently shaking her head. "I'm sorry dear. Date's are kind of personal. It's not something to take extra friends and family along with, unless I asked ahead of time. Does that make sense?"
"Aww..." They sounded even more sad the second time they made the noise, only for a sudden frozen-rocky tail to slowly wrap around the Bergmite.
"Do not worry, little one." Suddenly spoke up Roxanne, a grin on their face as the massive Onix slowly lowered their head down to nuzzle against the small Bergmite. "We shall have our own little fun, let Auntie enjoy their date. There will be other times to spend time with Orion and her both. Come, skate with me, show me that jumping move you love to do."
By the content smile on Glacia's face, Laguna figured everything was going to be alright. With a sigh, she continued to watch her Pokemon having fun for a few moments before before suddenly logging out of the game. Abby woke up in bed, and this time, unlike most times where she left the game, she was feeling almost giddy. It had been literal years since she was so excited to be in her own flesh and not the digital one. Work was work, and it was nice to contribute to something she loved, but even outside of that, it was just back to the game.
This was different.
It felt so silly, being able to hug and dance with him in virtual reality, but there was something so downright... special, about just kicking back and watching dumb videos and movies together. She already knew all about Orion, who he was in the game. His Pokemon, how he fought, what he stood for.
It was nice to learn even more about the man behind the... man?
Even still, she climbed out of bed and sat into her wheeled stool, gently pushing herself along the wall until she made it to her closet. Opening it up, she immediately began debating on what cute dress to wear today for their date. Abby logically knew that she didn't need to do anything, but her heart still told her that she should.
Eventually slipping into a cute light-blue dress that left her shoulders exposed, she made her way back over to her laptop and did what she always did while waiting for Orion to come online to text him.
Search through the internet to find dumb memes to send him as soon as he got there.
She had collected quite the collection at this point when the time continued to tick past, and Abby's nerves were starting to get the better of her. Orion was probably stuck at work, or in traffic. It would explain why didn't text her yet. Realistically, he would probably come in with some absolutely wild explanation, like some druken came down and drank the oil vats of the fryers at work or something and had to fight him off while covered in slippery, greasy oil like a god damn superhero or something.
Orion was the only person who could tell her utter nonsense like that, and she'd probably actually believe him.
Over thirty minutes had eventually gone by, and she was starting to feel a bit silly getting ready so soon. She knew Orion, he was a good guy. There was no way she'd get stood up... but even Abby was more than aware of her abandonment fears. They were irrational, she knew, but that still didn't help explain where the hell he was.
When he finally called, Abby was deep into a video about this insane chess game, that followed zero rules, that it almost startled her. Swiftly picking up the call, she immediately gave a playful pout at the camera, twisting in her desk chair. Even when she spoke, she was obviously teasing him, speaking in a very pompous-sounding Québécois accent [tangent=Have you come to ask forgiveness?]"Êtes-vous venu demander pardon?"[/tangent]

The mysterious gems had Laguna scratching her head, especially considering they were hollow, liquid sloshing around. Were they really all that special? There would be room to investigate it later, but for now they had to get out of here. Descending into the room, Laguna's eyes swiftly scanned the room as her Pokémon joined her at her side. It seemed so many else were so worse for wear. Pokémon gone, stolen from them. Many in poor physical condition, the Beasts taking prisoners but leaving scars to remind us of their presence. If only... Hoppy and Sheldon were still here. Maybe if she followed one of the Ultra Beasts here, she could find where they were keeping all the stolen Pokémon. And yet, she knew better than to sacrifice her current friends for such an act. She could not condemn anyone to do it... She would never sacrifice a Pokémon against their will. Nor would she ever allow such a stupid plan to go through, nobody else would be made to suffer. Her eyes scanned to the skeletons, the tomes. The black, seeping ichor. It immediately pulled back memories of just as dangerous times. Times where they had confronted the Corruption, pushed it back, protected Asper as best as they could. And yet, it was here, clear as day. It had been within the safe, that much was clear. But for how long? Before the city fell? There was no way to tell. She spared a glance at her Pokémon, speaking loudly so that all may hear. A quote popped into her head. An older time, another place, and yet it always seemed to grow more relevant each time. Corruption and burning flames rise in her minds eye. A phoenix, rising from the ashes from sacrificed souls. A genius inventor rising from his darkly-stained wooden prison. Of Corruption, spreading from body to body like a disease, infecting, twisting, and destroying.
"Corruption is infectious. Insidious darkness that changes those it touches." She nods solemnly, and her Pokémon seem swift to understand her intent. "We should not allow it to harm anyone else. It-"
"Sidera somnia ferri," Mr. Business suddenly spoke, the words of Cygnus's rescue ringing in her ears. "I read your reports. I know. This is no easy matter."
Glacia was just staring at the tome, the ichor, an almost literal fire burning in their eyes. Their determined desire to protect immediately flaring up, no denying their heroic spirit. Not after it burned so brightly in protest against such a threat before, and will again.
"Then it's settled."
Laguna would stretch out her hand, snowflakes swiftly twisting around it, summoning forth the chill in the air. "Do not touch that tome! Less you end up cursed as Cygnus was, or as Bunya's form is now. Corruption will destroy you, and all that you know."
She wouldn't wait any longer to tempt fate. Her sights were set on the tome, her Pokémon ready to fight as well should it come to it. They were ready. No knowledge of what might happen, or what was to come, but something so twisted by the corruption could not be allow to spread itself further.
A flick of the wrist, an icicle would form within the air, firing forth in an attempt to Attack the Tome. Attempting to pierce it through, to ruin its contents forever. She only could hope that her words would be enough to stop anyone too curious for their own good.

A sigh of relief followed the splashes of water, the slowing whirlpool, Bertha safe and sound. Laguna dropped the oars in the boat, it spinning in place as the Guzzlord floated up to the surface. At least the danger had passed, and they would recover.
The thought briefly crossed her mind that something else would show up to immediately threaten them, but she banished it before she could think it into existence. "Hey! You two alright?"
"Y-yeah! I did it!" Bertha splashed their fins against the choppy waters, immediately nuzzling up against their rescuer. It seemed Big Bee had made a new friend for life for sure.
Laguna sighed happily all over again, grinning ear to ear. It wasn't until she suddenly saw the Nihilego floating past with strange orbs of light that had her jumping straight back up onto her feet. "I do! What... What are they doing with it? Those lights? I'd suggest we follow, but the quest marker is still leading us somewhere. Do you think it has anything to do with their old lore? Like, Necrozma needing light or something? Something I think it's far more complicated than that. Nothing ever is straightforward in this game."
As soon as she witnessed the UB's attempting to drag the one they worked so hard to knock out, Laguna was swift to grab her Pokéball and toss it at the same time. She figured duplicating Pokémon catches was an old glitch, turned "Feature." But it did help prevent people fighting over who got what.
With a twirl of her wand, wind suddenly pushed the boat forwards on the much gentler waters towards others. "Come on, hop back in Bee. I have a feeling stuff isn't quite over yet."
