This was no longer just about vengeance.
This wasn't even just about sending a message. It was almost too personal. This Noibat had embarrassed her and her Pokemon twice now, and there was nothing she could have done then. But now. Things were different. She had upgraded all of her Pokemons HP and she was ready to rumble.
The Noibat was on its familiar perch, but it looked... tired. Like even it didn't want to be here anymore. The joy of its mischief had quickly vanished as this trainer returned again and again.
And yet, Laguna couldn't help but oddly admire it. It certainly had proven its strength. But this time, he would be going home with her. Someone out there would love a gremlin such as this.
"Glacia?" The trainer spoke, looking over at their foe. "Take them down. Its time we end this fight. Icy Wind."
The Noibat was entirely unprepared for the freezing breeze this time, slumping over on its perch as it tried to fight back.
Laguna simply readied her golden pokeball, and tossed.

The Noibat was persistent, deciding if it couldn't fly around and be a nuisance that way, it would cling onto the Bergmite and Absorb with its bites, for all it's got!
Glacia twirled around, desperate to get the bat off of it, the sudden loss of health confounding its thoughts before she finally heard her trainer overtop the downpour of rain and the pain.
"-spin! Rapid Spin! C'mon, shake him off!"
Lights seemed to light up in the Bergmite's eyes as it spun as fast as it possibly could, using its icy-body to slide around, spinning faster and faster, successfully knocking the Noibat off, and slamming it into a nearby wall!

The bat shrieked out in surprise as the Bergmite was surprisingly quick, but it had a few tricks up its own sleeves! Or, well, Bats didn't have sleeves, but maybe up its giant ears?
Regardless, it suddenly bit down on Glacia's spines, and began to use Absorb, healing its own health back!
"Hey! Screw you!!" She bonked the Noibat on the head with a Pokeball, only for it to bounce off. Worth a try.
"Glacia, are you alright?" The Bergmite nodded in response, though it was clearly worse for wear. "Rain Dance! Let's soak this flying menace!"
The Bergmite immediately began to twirl as a sudden downpour struck, the strength of it making it incredibly hard to fly.

After a quick trip to a shrine, completely out of town to heal, Laguna slowly wandered back into town. But this time, she was much more focused.
She wanted revenge. Was it a bit silly to want revenge on a bat? Perhaps, but at this point, she really couldn't care any less about it. Vengeance was best served cold, while the night was still young.
"Aha!" She shouted, witnessing the Noibat sticking it's tongue out at her from it's position on the roof of a building. She immediately summoned Glacia again, the iceberg Pokemon ready to brawl once more!
"Glacia, High Jump Kick!" The Bergmite immediately pounced forwards, twirling it's little legs as it planned to slam right into the bat!

"Stupid bats, stupid walks, stupid, stupid stupid-" She mumbled as she approached the shrine, sighing heavily to herself. She really needed to get it all together, she was too much of a risk-taker. She couldn't keep letting her pokemon get taken out like this.
Laguna stared into the abyss down below, the empty hole, and simply sighed once more as she held Glacia's Pokeball in her hands. "This has to end, right? I mean, it's a game, but... I should look into upgrading their health. I really don't want to keep coming back here."
She'd rest for a few moments, making sure her Pokemon felt freshened up before slowly making her way back towards the settlement. She had a score to settle, after all.
"Uh, thanks. Whoever lives in that pit. Appreciate it." Even if she felt empty about the whole thing, healing here felt so weird, but she wasn't about to let that Noibat get away.
Not yet.

The Noibat was proving to be a larger nuisance than it first appeared to be. It dodged the Avalanche for the most part, although some smaller ice rocks did strike its wings.
In response, it seemingly puffed up its cheeks as a Supersonic blast of sound was launched towards Glacia!
The Bergmite instinctively threw up a Protect, but only after it became rattled from the noise. They glanced over at their trainer for guidance, who was admittedly a bit distracted cursing at the annoying bat.
"Just wanted to have a walk in peace! Gods damn it all. Glacia, Icy Wind!" The Bergmite chirped out in recognition, immediately swirling about a freezing cold breeze to chill the Noibat to the bone.

Before she could really begin to explore the city proper, discovering new sights to be seen, something fluttered straight into her face.
"Gah!" She cried out in surprise, flopping back down onto her butt. Her eyes widened immediately, glancing up at the offender. A Noibat, a seemingly mischievous one at that. She almost got the sense that it was giggling at her, betraying the accident was entirely on purpose.
"Oh, that's it! Glacia, come take down this noisy bat!" She'd toss out her pokemon, the glitchy Bergmite standing immediately tall and to attention.
"Avalanche! Show them they can't just mess around like that!" Immediately, the Bergmite cried out as it began its counter-offense! Spinning around, large chunks of ice began to form in the air before hopefully slamming down straight into the Noibat!

The Giant Shrine was impressive, to say the very least.
It was insane. Perhaps that was a better description of it. Massive, skyscraper-like in size, but who knew just how far it dug down into the earth? She idly wondered who placed these shrines here, before realizing that an answer would almost certainly not be forthcoming. In games like this, they certainly loved their mysteries.
With a sigh, she stood from afar for some time, watching the blue electricity creep across the shrine itself. It genuinely felt alive in a way that was both easy, and hard to explain. Holding her pokeballs in her hands, Laguna slowly approached the massive structure.
"Rest up guys, you'll all feel better soon." She said to her Pokeballs themselves, eagerly awaiting the shrine's response.

Now this was something interesting! Make up a Pokedex Entry for a hypothetical Pokemon? Oh, she could do this for a living if she had the time! What a world to live in, where she not only got to be around Pokemon but invent creative ones too! Her smile was a mile wide as she got to work.
Pebblosa: The Stone Gut Pokemon
Type: Rock Height: 11" Weight: 30lbs Gender Ration: 10% Female / 90% Male
Pebblosa swallows stones to help with the digestion of its favorite prey, insect Pokemon. They prefer rocky areas with high plant density, ensuring they'll always be able to find a few bugs to eat whenever they flip over a stone. It is, however, quite easily scared by Bug-type pokemon larger than it, which is unfortunately most of them, and it retains this fear until it eventually evolves.
Pebblosa only chooses the smoothest stones to swallow, however, some are pickier and have particular tastes. If the texture isn't quite right, or the color isn't exactly pretty, they'll refuse a stone until they find one just right. Unfortunately, given they require at least one to help digest almost anything at all.

Which is the first Pokemon? Now this wasn't a fair question. Not even close. It didn't specify enough! First pokemon in what? The Pokedex? All of literal creation? How absolutely mind-boggling. Ooooh, Hydance knew what they were doing when they made this essay question. How infuriating. Pokemon are by themselves mysterious and powerful creatures with abilities not even fully understood by humans. Even the greatest researcher has yet to unlock some seemingly simple truths of Pokemon. One of the biggest and most hotly debated questions of our time, is which came first?
In the beginning, it was said that there was absolutely nothing but Arceus. It seems almost too simple, but according to Sinnoh belief, Arceus himself was the first Pokemon born from an egg that appeared from nothing, one who created all Pokemon and potentially even all of creation itself. Considering the Ransei region looks startlingly like Arceus itself, it is entirely plausible.
And yet, Mew is the genetic ancestor of all Pokemon. Or at least, was believed to be the case before Arceus turned out to be more than myth and legend. Whether the Arceus that has been acting within the Sinnoh regions and beyond is the one and true creator of the universe is still an unknown fact, it has apparently been known to outright create eggs of legendary pokemon themselves for trainers who have been deemed worthy.
And yet, note the specific wording. Mew is the genetic ancestor, and yet Arceus created all of existence. It is equally possible that while Arceus created the universe, they used Mew's DNA to create the pokemon that lived within it. While it is also equally possible that Arceus created Mew itself, who then went on to be the genetic ancestor of them all.
Whatever the case may be, so long as Arceus exists and is proven to be as powerful as it appears to be, then it's undeniable that it was the first Pokemon.

This next essay was... very simple. Just three landmarks and describe their importance. It seemed like it was almost too easy. Like even the professor was giving up. To be fair, she imagined it wasn't exactly easy. With certain regions existing only in side games, or in anime-only scenes, and locations changing drastically between games and anime, there was certainly room for confusion. The Johto region is a region built upon its connection with Pokemon and their importance to them all. Nothing better showcases this fact than some of its most important landmarks.
Sprout Tower stands tall, reflecting off a beautiful lake in Violet City. It is over 100 feet tall, held together by a giant flexible pillar that is allowed to shake from side to side to protect it from Earthquakes. A technology we know today as 柔構造 (jūkōzō), and applied to hundreds of modern high-rise buildings. It is said that the pillar was indeed once a 100-foot-tall Bellsprout, but the fact is not confirmed.
However, what is confirmed, is that it stands as a symbol of peace and tranquility throughout the Johto region. The monks who train and study with their Bellsprout there are wise beyond their years, teaching tourists and trainers alike that all living beings can coexist through cooperation. Going further to show just how far Johto's culture is ingrained in its willingness to work with Pokemon.
Bell Tower, previously known as Tin Tower, is one of two towers within Ecruteak City. An icon of the town itself, only a select few are even allowed to enter it. However, it and its sister tower were built entirely with the idea in mind to foster friendship between Pokémon and People. As the eastern tower, it was said to awaken Pokémon.
Not only that, but it was also said to be the roosting place for a legendary Pokémon. None other than Ho-Oh, a powerful Pokémon said to grant eternal happiness just by being in its presence. However, it has since flown away from it's tower after the other one was burned down, now in search of a pure-hearted trainer.
Speaking of the other tower, Brass Tower once stood just as tall as it's sibling, unfortunately now named Burned Tower. As the eastern tower was said to be a place to awaken, the western tower was a place for Pokémon to rest, even Lugia was said to roost there until the structure's unfortunate fall. Lightning struck and burned the tower, but that is not the end of its importance.
The birthplace of the Legendary Beasts, Suicune, Entei, Raikou. The fire caused Pokémon that were resting there to perish, and Ho-Oh granted them new life. It is said the lightning strike, a raging blaze that consumed the tower, and the sudden downpour that doused it have some relation to the three legendary Pokémon.
These three towers are an excellent example of Johto's relationship with Pokémon. Their bond and desire to work with them, to grow with them, and to understand them, caused them to develop these towers, which have now ascended into legendary status themselves.
If there is anything to take from this, it is that Pokémon and people can always work together to make even mundane architecture something worthy of inspiration.

Laguna was in cram mode. There wasn't much time to finish the final exams, and she had so many to take! She had admittedly, given up on the Math class. There was no way to fix that grade. She always did suck at math anyways. Whipping out her pen, she quickly began to get to work! An essay on Gym Leaders should be easy enough to write about. Gym Leaders are perhaps one of the most famous forms of Trainers. Their role is known throughout the entire Pokemon world, even in regions where their role typically does not exist, such as the Alolan region. They are still widely known and held in reverence regardless.
Said to be masters of Pokemon battling, powerful trainers in their own right. So why is it that they focus solely on a single typing of Pokemon? Focusing on monotype teams might seem flawed at first, with obvious weakpoints to exploit, but in this essay, we will explore the reasons for such a truth.
The simple matter that needs addressed, is that Gym Leaders are not trying to win every single fight. They are not the Elite 4, who's entire job is to fight the best of the best trainers and ensure they are worthy of even attempting to become a Champion. No, Gym Leaders fight trainers with a much simpler reason in mind.
They are teachers, first and foremost. Their goal and mission is to help teach and train the new generation of trainers. While some Gym Leaders admittedly struggle at this task, it is their job's statement to help people learn.
If a Gym Leader had a perfectly balanced team made from all types, it would be very easy to make a super strong team that could win fights against any new trainer. Instead, Gym Leaders typically have teams all consisting of one type to teach trainers how to deal with their respective element. A gym battle should be just as much a lesson, as it is an actual battle.
Just as a Poison gym leader prepares a trainer for how to handle powerful damaging status effects, Electric gym's often teach about paralyzed effects or electric terrain. Each type has it's own strengths and weaknesses, and trainers learning them, memorizing them, is an essential part of everyone's journey.
Why the Elite Four dedicate themselves solely to monotype teams, however, is less easily explained.

Laguna was quiet as she wandered the vermillion halls of the Everworld.
The souls of the damned lived here, almost in exile until another came to claim them. Nothing truly died, even if they were abandoned another player could retrieve them, right?
But, what if the abandoned pokemon began to outnumber the players who wanted them? What if Pokemon were abandoned because absolutely nobody wanted them? It would happen eventually. So many Pokemon were disliked, even if they had their own followings.
She stared at the statue with the mask for a very long time, a frown on her face.
Magikarp.
Worthless. Useless. Unable to fight. Unable to even swim strongly. It was by and large a completely pitiful Pokemon.
So why did she care so much about it?
Perhaps because, deep in her heart, she knew nobody else ever would care.
The other abandoned Pokemon were interesting, unique, and had either cool evolutions or were popular to some. But Magikarp was nothing. Anyone could fish one up in literally any creek. It almost seemed... wrong. Seta must have a million and one of these fish by now.
If only she could give at least one of them a good home.
"Seta!" Laguna cried out, standing in front of the specific statue. "I'm here for the Magikarp. I'll give it a home that loves them, of this, I swear. There's a trial for that too, isn't there? Give it to me. I want to help."

Laguna sputtered for breath as the rushing water tumbled her back and forth, spinning her around at the bottom of the river almost like a death spiral. She nearly drowned before managing to pop her head back up for just a moment to breathe, before being pulled along once more.
It took her almost a minute before she finally caught a glimpse of her pokemon once again. The Brionne was desperately clutching a rock near the water's edge, struggling to hold on. There was no way Laguna could reach her, without getting swept past with the rushing waters. And so she did the only thing she could think of. She held the clay body above her head and tossed it over at the rock as hard as she possibly could before her legs were swept out beneath her.
For a moment, everything seemed to go white. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't see, she couldn't even tell which way was up or down. The freezing waters sapped her strength, and it took everything she had simply not to drown. Time seemed to no longer matter, only death awaited her.
She was barely even aware of a pressure on her back, her skin too numb to feel almost anything. And yet, a warmth suddenly slowly spread across her curled-up frame. She felt water vanish and immediately took the second to catch a desperate breath of fresh air before finally noticing.
She was in a massive bubble.
Her eyes flew open immediately as she coughed, desperate for air. She felt almost weightless, floating in a bubble that seemed to defy gravity itself. Lo and behold, her rescuer was none other than Marina herself. The Brionne balanced the bubble she had blown across her nose, bouncing it straight out of the water and onto the empty shores.
The bubble popped and Laguna collapsed to the ground, struggling to move after such a near-death experience. And it took her another few moments to realize that her Brionne was full of life once again. One of her eyes seemed a little higher than the other on her face, but the Brionne had effortlessly climbed out of the water to look after their trainer.
Not just their trainer, but their best friend.
Laguna somehow found the energy to quietly laugh, slowly reaching a hand out to gently feel her Pokemon's fin. "Marina," She spoke after another few moments of trying to catch her breath. "Don't ever scare me like that again."
The Brionne only seemed to laugh, giving her a look in response as if the feeling was exactly mutual.
Cold, on the verge of tears, and barely with the energy to move, they simply hugged as hard as they could. Eventually, everything would fade and the Trial would end, but they'd have each other. Always.
